2.2.1 update - Droid X General

When is this so called 2.2.1 update coming ota? I've read online that there is a leaked version for those rooted but I'm not and I want my ota update damn it! I asked a rep this weekend and he said "in the next two months" but he also said the same thing when i asked when lte was coming out...oh those silly Verizon workers
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

the reps in store probably do not know when the update is due out.

Yeah... I like asking them questions just to see what how they will answer ya know? But does anyone have any info on the release date?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

There are no dates yet, officially or unofficially. Just stay tuned.

Motorola won't even admit the leak is their work. Get on motorola owners forum you will see the lack of communication on motorolas part. They also refuse to provide any information about possible update timelines... They operate their business like they do their boot loaders...

still chuckling.

Does anyone know what the update is going to (in theory) fix? Any sort of changelog?

the last official communication from Motorola is here:
_https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/38876_

While the leak runs like a finished product, there's no guarantee that it's ever coming OTA anyways. It does fix most of what was posted in the link above.
Also, I believe that VZW rep was right about LTE

LTE was launched yesterday(Dec. 5)! As far as a 2.2.1 OTA... only time will tell.

Yeah! May be upon us, is uncertainty i'm not sold yet.
That's amazing, they're getting updates from a server that's supposedly offline.
The nexus one truly is revolutionary.
Just a thought but if the servers are offline checkin wouldn't work right?

That article is nothing to get excited about. We do not have a confirmed N1 on 2.1 update. When i see that I'll believe it.
The idea is that we need to have 2 things to have it official:
1. One google employee stating the roll out has began.
2. A 2.1 N1 gets the update.
Till then, fry your brains with articles like these.
What is the build for this one?

Cellular South HTC Hero 2.1 Update (NEXT WEEK!!!!!)

Quote from Cellular South
"We have approved the Hero 2.1 Android update and it has now been handed over to Google and HTC for their final approval. When this occurs, the software will be available to download from the online Discover Center. We will provide more details here next week as soon as it’s available."
Right off their facebook page! YES!!!!
Note: If you want to root your phone later, Do NOT apply this update!!! IF YOU ARE ROOTED, DO NOT APPLY THIS UPDATE EITHER!!! This WILL wipe your phone and root! I will be making a stripped down flashable version once it is released!
Wow sorry to hear you had to wait what, an extra month and a half? That's nuts.

If all goes well it should be released shortly after. The update is not froyo... it is a maintenance update that many of the devs have already improved being dj05. As for froyo he has no info can neither confirm nor deny and has a couple calls in for more info. He said he will get back to me if there was anything worth reporting. Ec05 update 03/24/2011

Read several threads where people spoke with Sprint reps. They said there was an issue with EC05 so they pushed it back till the 24th. If this means anything from Sprint those on the East Coast wait till the 25th and if you get a update before please let everyone know.
It would be nice if Sprint has some idea what it means to communicate with their customers and post this officially. God forbid they keep us in the loop.
Company communication SUCKS in general these days, which is REALLY sad considering how many mediums we have to communicate with!
This is me speculating...but I don't think its been pushed back.
The update started on the 21st to be delivered through to the 24th. I would think that the reps are telling people the 24th b/c there's nothing they can do but have us wait and they don't want people calling repeatedly.

I can see your point of view. However has anyone received an stock EC05 update as of yet? Everyone reporting nothing. No one has publish a update.zip file at all.
Dude, you do realize the people that go to XDA are in the minority. Most people could care less when and if their phone is updated. They don't look at the next update as a cure to all their ills.
I would say 9 out of ten Epic owners have no idea what XDA even is.

I'm sure we have a ton of lurkers who'd never post.
Either way - We have two reports on various forums of someone receiving the update. There is also one tweet from someone about 16 hours ago. I imagine they start out slow and increase the size of the batches as they update.
The next 12 hours will be very telling I think.

If you got an a message to update then post the update.zip. For gods sake man, everyone has waited and I haven't seen anyone post a file or a message about getting a real update. All I seen was the leak, and it is not what people want. If we got the stock we could root it and post it out there for others. Thats whats this forum is all about helping others. Positive and helpful comments only. If Sprint wanted everyone to have it there would be tons of posts about getting EC05. So far nothing and NO update file. Look in /cache and the root of your sdcard. I am sure Sprint has a script at the end that deletes the file. If you don't have root explorer write me back and I can seen you the apk. We really need to know if this is the real deal though!

Redundancy of the OP's complaint aside, none of those posts suggest a potential solution to the problem. Does anyone have one? This all stems from a seemingly broken constant connect to Google, which results in most, or all, of the following symptoms:
White connection bars instead of green
Inability to connect with Gtalk
Auto-Sync with any Google service (gmail) disabled, despite check in settings
Someone suggested they were getting a push for an update, but there have been no details, and I'm not seeing anything. Aside from switching back to 2.3.3 or to CM9, is there anything else we can try?

Most Verizon reps seem to think that rooting tampers with hardware... I've been down that road with the Samsung Fascinate. I wasn't thrilled to say the least but I was still able to get a replacement since they couldn't prove that it was the reason why the phone failed. My patience for tech support of any kind is fairly thin due to me being an avid tech enthusiast...

Id be interested to see if the new phone has the same issues, I have flashed back to 2.3.3 multiple times and OTA'd back to 2.3.4 , each time the same problem, gtalk broke and service bars stay grey, and google sync never works unless I manually do it.
I called verizon today and I to have no use for verizon tech support I think each time I was more knowledgeable about my phone and its software/firmware then whoever I was speaking to.
I posted my every bit of the useless conversation I had with verizon in the proper thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25807552#post25807552

I know one thing about verizon they want to stay big red so they are not going to have to many upset customers. the 2.3.3 update for the phones was in september. I wonder if Verizon will get an ICS build in june or july. I can dream cant I?
