[Q] HELP! rooted. apps gone. 0bytes - Fascinate General

OK.. so here is my story. i got my phone about a month ago. rooted it. worked great. last week my phone froze so i had to pull the battery, ive dont that before, but this time when i tuned it on it took me thru setup wizard. my apps were gone and i have 0 bytes. every time i turn it off and turn it back on i have to go through the set up wizard. i looked online for ways to go back to stock, but they require i download an app. but i cant because i have 0 bytes. please i just want this thing unrooted and back to normal. PLEASE HELP

Theres a thread in the development section that addresses this issue. Search 0.00. Fyi imo voodoo is not worth the drama, stock file system roms ftw, kk?

i cant get it to work i downloaded odin but am having problems with it

Odin will not fix your problem, rooting is not your problem. Look in the development section on this forum and run the voodoo uninstaller(automatic) boot into stock android recovery 2e, and wipe data/cache after you run voodoo uninstaller.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

but what is voodoo??

i never installed voodoo

and in odin... icant locate the pda file or i just dont have it. when i find a link to install it brings up a blank page

This may be a dumb suggestion, but is it possible your SD card is loose in its socket?

[Q] bricked after unroot :(

so i rooted my vibrant and was having issues with titanium back up constantly (like every 2 seconds) demanding su permissions. i decided to unroot and try to re-root but the phone now freezes at the galaxy S screen during bootup and eventually the screen goes black with only the 4 keys at the bottom lit.
i unrooted by using the "1-click root/unroot" app on the forums.
the rom was stock and the phone has never really been modified aside from being rooted and ryan's lag fix
thanks in advance
also---sorry for putting this in the wrong section, could a mod please move it to general? i wont make the mistake again
Not bricked. You will likely have to re-flash using ODIN. Search around and read up and you find out how to do it.
Which unroot app did you use?

that one....
i'm reading about odin now trying to figure out what to do, not really sure how this happened in the first place
prolly has to do with the lag fix and then you unrooting... but flashing back to stock through odin should fix all your problems and from what ive read and found out myself its almost imposible to brick this phone. but use odin and flash a stock rom or if you have access to clockwork try using the nandroid that someone posted here somewhere. another thing you can try is to root your phone again through stock recovery and that might fix your problems cause i think the lag fix has to have root to work and since you got rid of root and kept the lag fix you get stuck
I used odin and everything works now.
Thanks for the help!

Is anyone working on making a rom that allows a user to pause/skip/play music using the inline headphone controls? Seems kinda stupid Samsung has the button activate the call log no matter what app is open...

Root and development questions should. There is a questions thread on XDA in MT3GS forum(thats where i got the idea from),it was started by administrator to keep things clean and organized and it works. Why should i or someone else start a whole new thread if we just need one question answered?

Good question,i haven't used my earphones yet. They don't work on modded roms or stock too?
Is it safe to remove the SD card when in Clockwork Recovery? I don't see an "unmount" option anywhere.

Yeah i haven't had no problems with it,but you would be better of turning off the phone and doing it.Reason for that is,if you pull out sdcard while Clockwork recovery, put some files on sdcard and put it back in-Clockwork will not see those files unless you reboot the phone into Clockwork. So yeah, you can pull out sdcard while in Clockwork but you will still need to power off the phone for Clockwork to see new files.

I've tried all of the ones up on this forum and they all go right to the call log when you press the button on the headphones that came with the phone. I tried using the ones that came from my Palm Pre but that didn't work either. One click goes to call log (always), 2nd click calls the top number in your call log. Long press does voice command. Doesn't matter if you have the music app open at all...
but if everyone posts their question inside the same thread......... it makes it harder to search for each individual question!
I did try asking the question in the thread of the rom but it kinda got hidden away amidst the talk of those having trouble flashing it.....
Anyway I'm looking for the stock voicemail app that came with the phone I looked in a few rom threads and found the apps theyposted as being all the removed stock stuff but I didn't see the voicemail app in any of those can anyone tell me how to get this please?

How do you turn the phone off from Clockwork? Holding power doesn't seem to do anything and I don't see a power off option.

This should be general root questions or questions about the phone. If you need questions answered about rooting the phone or about certain rom than you should post it in that thread.
Will the new update destroy my root access and if it does will I be able to root again.
Also I still have a stock kernel and I have deleted like sprint hotspot and the sprint apps

It will destroy your root if you do over the air update,if you update in clockwork then it shouldn't.?Now will we be able to reroot again after ota update?I dont know,im wondering about that myself. You should search DI18 update thread.
If you have removed any sprint apps the OTA won't even work. If you've not removed any and are running a stock sprint that's already rooted and clockwork is installed then there is a zip file floating around here that will allow u to just install it with clockworkmod. Other then that you CAN root after the di18 update if u decide to go the "start from scratch" route.
Personally I went back to complete stock using odin and the di07 tar file. I then rooted and installed clockwork recovery. From there I flashed the signed zip file that can also be found in a thread here (sorry for not posting links and all its not as easy when using the app but all threads are pretty appropriately titled shouldn't be too hard) that got me to the di18 and the rest is history

Question RE: OTA updates and root
Hey guys, finally jumped ship from ATT and got an Epic the other day. Kinda funny I was running DZO's Froyo on my Kaiser and now I am back to Eclair, but whatever..it's still night and day difference!
My question is regarding updates and if I can just jump into a new ROM. I have successfully 1-click-rooted and clockworked my phone. It shows Eclair DG17, Kernel 2.6.29. I tried to do an OTA update to get latest, but phone says its up to date, even though Sprints site says an update is available and DI07 is latest..
Where do I go from here?
Well ur still running stock from what I gathered in ur explanation so if u wanted to get to the latest update u can grab it from Firon's thread about the "non-stock" update. In that same thread he has the file available for those that are still on stock and just simply rooted with clockworkmod (you would fall under that) once ur on that latest update you can look at the different threads for roms and kernals

Flash your phone to stock kernel and stock rom(DG27) using Odin(factory restore)Then do sprint's ota update(make sure your phone is charged at least half way or it won't update),that should update your phone to DI17 or DI18(not sure wich one, probably DI18).
Oh,you can go to settings "About phone",System updates","Android update" to see if your update is downloading.

Please help me, im desperate :(

Ok, so before, I went to install the Simple Galaxy rom, and i forgot to disable VooDoo .. When I boot my phone, its tied together between the stock Samsung Galaxy X screen and the Auxura Rom (which i am came from + with the honeybread port)... I know im only soft bricked, so at least i know i can SOMEHOW fix this.. I can get into download mode and recovery, but when i got to recovery and choose install ZIP from Sd card, it tells me nothing is there. I tried factory reseting it, but no use. When i try to use Odin, I get <OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0).... Please guys, Im in BIG need of help..
Edit- I got Odin to work, Im going to see what happens next
Go to the vibrant toolbox sticky in the development section. I screwed up my phone for the first time ever yesterday with the same ROM and the program got me back to stock in 10 minutes and I've never even looked at Odin in my life. It's really user friendly. If you can get into download mode, this app will get you back to stock and rooted again. The longest part is waiting for it to download. Good luck, you'll be fine.

Galaxy s plus constant restart

Hello, ive had my samsung galaxy s plus for little over 2 months and its been frequently restarting 2-3 times every week. it doesnt happen for a specific app. once it restarted when i plugged it into my usb to connect to my pc. other times its just during apps - games twitter etc.
i want to know if anyone has solution to this and if anyone has had similar issues. my phone isnt rooted by the way.
replies are much appreciated
Well. I don't think there is a real solution for this, flashing XXKPS will solve the problem 100%. You are probably running 2.3.3 right? If you are then FLASH!
(Flash ROM > Install Feamod Recovery > Do whatever you want)
2.2.3 = cheap ass battery life and contains several bugs
Here you go mate, have a read here and update your Rom to newer one or even a custom one.

4.3 fails during install

Hi,
On MF3.
I'm rooted. I have clock work recovery installed.
I can download the update succeffuly however when the phone reboots the install begins, gets as far as 25% then fails. Phone reboots back to 4.2.2 with a message that says the install was interrupted.
Have tried twice with the same result.
Anyone else experiencing this?

If I were you I would go back and read a little information about mf3 and what kind of recovery can be used. It sounds to me like you might be very confused. In order to correctly keep from bricking your phone you may want to read up on things. Good luck.

Since you are rooted, take a look in the /cache/recovery directory. Read the log file. It will tell you where things messed up.
For example, I had forgotten that I did something with csc and had replaced the feature.xml file. Luckily, I had a back up of the original file. I renamed it, fixed is file permissions to rw-r--r--, advanced my clock one day, and then was able to install MJ9.
Good luck, and remember you won't have root anymore when you install this (for the time being)
Yrs,

I had the same problem. The only way I was finally able to upgrade to 4.3 was to use Odin to revert to stock (unrooted) 4.2.2 MF3 using the files on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502003 Once I did that I ran the OTA update to 4.3 and it worked without any problems
To able to keep your root and upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3 you have to change your param file back to the stock. Thats all the information that I have so far so... not completely sure. But I think that is what you're supposed to do.
Because you have a custom param file, when you try to upgrade to 4.3 it's telling you there is an issue with your phone.
I may be wrong.
Is there a copy of the correct feature.xml? Im having the same issue

I had the same problem happen to me on Wednesday night and last night. Today I used Odin to go back to stock MF3, however, then I couldn't get the OTA update. It kept saying my firmware was up to date each of the three times I restored it.
Now I'm finally on MJ9 after copying "update-mf3-mj9.zip" to my SD card, going into recovery mode, and updating from external SD card. Now I can use my Galaxy Gear!

I was excited when I rooted the phone, then installed ROM manager premium. It allowed me to install the recovery. You can even boot into the recovery from ROM Manager.
However since the S4 is locked down tight, you can do any thing from there. So i can't flash anything. It even gives me a message saying as much.
However it is partially installed I can boot into it at will.
I will post a video of it. So that you all have an idea of what im talking about.

While I was preparing to record it, I did notice that you are correct. Although Rom Manager goes through the motions of flashing the recovery, when you attempt to boot into the Recovery, you are faced with an Error, and default back into Android Recovery.
Although I know all about Safestrap...I think we've all missed the point. The OP was meant to get help about why the 4.3 OTA was failing 25% into the install.
I've got what I needed by being pointed to the location of the install log.....and while reading through it, I noticed that the install is failing because I removed the Chat On APK. I will install from backup and move forward.
Thank you all who provided the necessary guidance to solve the original problem.
Thank you as well to those who helped clear up the whole Clockwork vs Android recovery part. Although a minor part of the original post, it's good that we don't spread misinformation.
Cheers

Did you use all files? I mean, I've been trying the same for the past couple of days, and I even asked in that thread if I could use just the PDA file, nobody replied so I went ahead and did it, it removed the root and I kept all my files and settings (That was the idea) but just after that I can't connect anymore to Kies ( I could without issues, I did a full backup moments before) and trying to do the sideload it always gives me the Error 7, I even tried the full SD card update,it erased everything and guess what, when it rebooted for my surprise I was still at 4.2.2 MF3, so it just did the Wipe Data and then rebooted, so I lost almost 6 hours getting everything back as it was and then, I had the Damaged SD card error so I also lost all my pictures and videos withoout back up.
So, as you can see half a day later I'm still at the same point I was this morning and with a huge loss, so, please, Did you use all the files? If you did, doing this erase everything also?
Thanks in adavance.

Yes. I used all the files. The result was a completely stock unrooted 4.2.2 so, yes, it reset the phone and erased everything that I had on there. (It left my external SD card intact but I would still advise removing it if there is anything on there you don't want to lose.)

Yep, that was the reason why I just used the PDA I didn't want to lose my data, and then I did it anyways, my mistake was not doing the Odin Restore just after I realized that it erased everything and I was still at 4.2.2, that's was the perfect time to do it, but now, after I finally put everything back as it was, I simply don't see myself by my own choice, doing all this again.
Thanks.

In the thread, there are tons of instances where it explains where to use each file and even pictures, I know because I read every single post, but none of them explains if I could use just the PDA one if I wanted to keep my settings while unrooting the phone, that's why I asked about it, because nobody replied to my question I decided to be the guinea pig, and yes, it works, you keep your settings, and I was glad, but as you can see, what I wanted to accomplish didn't work after all. Without all the files it doesn't fix the issue that causes the error 7 when doing the sideload.
