Keep your eyes on this thread:

Doubt there will be many minutes between a root option found and it appearing in that thread.

Yes, but there is a root of 1.6 is not 2.1.
need to wait to root for Android 2.1

[Help needed] DHD Rooting Build 1.72.405.3

Hi all. I'm new to this forum as I recently gotten my HTC Desire HD and I wanted to make it faster. with an custom ROM.
I actually get stuck at the 2nd step of rooting my DHD so I don't got allot info to give.
I recently had an update which was for the camera and the touchscreen itself if I remember right. but I really regret it.
I've got VISIONary+ installed. and when I press "Temp. root" it'll show a yellow triangle and I can see it load. but after a minute or 2 it only shows a black screen. I've had it on for almost 3 hours now. and I can't seem to get past it.
If you need more info, I'll provide it.
I hope somebody can help me with this one. since I really want a custom ROM on my DHD.
Sincerely,
Aliq
Hi
The new updates stops temp root etc etc... So you will need to wait till the devs come up with a new method.
It might take a while as most devs wont unroot and lose s off ....
But you never know, but if post your version of firmware, it be your doing something wrong?
But if you updated you'll need to wait.

[Q] All the lies off 2.3.4 rooted sausming s i 9000

Hi
There are a lot of stories in hgere on how to root to 2.3.4 from stock firmware, but so far no one have been able to deliver version 2.3.4. rooted.
They are all still 2.3.3., so the developers telling you a different story has a problem.
Can we please get those articles corrected as users are waisting time on using useless guides to root there telephone from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3 and think they are on 2.3.4., whan they in rela are on 2.3.3
What???
2.3.4 is most definitely rootable.

use cf-root for jvp. period.
there are many 2.3.4 kernels with which you can get root. you can use either CF root or Semaphore kernel.

[Q] Gingerbreak on Updates??

Hi. Kinda new to the forums so hello to everyone.
I got my play for quite a while now and was getting annoyed with all the bloatware pre installed in the unit. I'm planning on using Gingerbreak just to get rid of them.
My question is if after using gingerbreak, can you still get the official updates for the phone? also, if not, is it possible to return to a state that you can? Search around but couldn't get a concrete answer to this.
Thanks.

You can go from a gingerbreaked 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 with no problem, although you will loose root and 2.3.3 cannot be rooted yet

if you want to move more apps to SD, you do not need root, you can use the ADB command "pm setInstallLocation 2" to force most apps to the SD card

I was able to root 2.3.2 and then move to 2.3.3 maintaining my root using this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
I had a locked bootloader and was on .184 UK firmware
The above link also worked for me. Locked bootloader + root + 2.3.3 and it was quick and easy.
Can also confirm that the above works.
