If Windows Mobile 7 Was Properly Ported Onto HTC HD2 Would It Be The Same As HTC HD7? - HD2 General

I have had my HTC HD2 for around 5-6 months now. Though I'm happy with it and it has exceeded my expectations, I was thinking of upgrading it to WM7 when it's finally ported for the HD2.
What I would love to know is if the HD2 indeed had WM7 ported for it, would it run the SAME as it would on HTC HD7?
Reason I ask this is because I was planning on selling my HD2 and get the HD7.
However, both phones have the SAME screen size, same 1ghz processor, same ram & same 5mp camera, the HD7 only being 720p.
Why should I sell my old HD2 to buy the new one which is the SAME spec?
That is why I was asking if WM7 was ported onto the HD2, would it:
- Run as quick?
- Responsive, fast & smooth
- If it really will be ported, when can we expect the first rom or when should it be made for HD2

I am sure sooner or later wp7 will be cracked and ported for HD2. So we will have the same device with HD7 except the looks. Also we have some more hard buttons as an extra

Its not the same.....
It might be a very similar spec but the actual components will differ.
No ported OS will ever run as smoothly as it would on its intended device....
If you want a dedicated WP7 then you'll have to get one not wait for a port.

The fact that it is a user-made port, most likely running off SD card will mean it may be a little more sluggish than something designed natively for, and run natively on, a different device.
That's assuming the problems using Live services are overcome too

Doh that's what I thought!
Well I hope at least if a port does take place, it will perform almost as good as it does on the HD7, but we have to wait and see first when one is made and how it performs.

the camera is capable of 720p it lacks drivers

From my understanding as of right now. The phone will boot into WP7 but it will not have any live application functionality. Meaning the live hubs will not work so no it will not work just like a HD7.

I personally cannot understand the hardware choices they made for WP7. They are all the same spec as the HD2, and personally I'm not shelling out $500ish for the equivalent of a Software upgrade. I'd get all your use out of the HD2 first and wait for the next Hardware generation, unless WP7 really is a big deal for you.
Personally, as a big WinMob fan, I'm now running Android on my HD2, and worryingly I might not come back to MS. Android is exceeding all my expectations, and with no upgrade path to WP7, it's beginning to win my heart, despite my slight mistrust of Google.
If WP7 does come to HD2, the big problem now does appear to be the use of Live Services. Maybe Microsoft may soon relent and sell genuine Licence Keys (there's no sign of that - it's just my wish), but until then you'll probably be locked out of them.

I have had many phones: MDA, Wing, Omnia I900, Iphone 3G and now the HTC HD2. I have Android on my HD2 and use it all the time. Only reboot back into WM every so often.
Why would I or anyone else want WM7? I can make my phone look like WM7, an iPhone, etc. Do looks really matter? Every OS has it advantages and disadvantages.
Android apps are plentiful, cheap and very good. Does WM7 have as many apps?
Do I loose a little (whatever) using Android on my HD2? If I do I don't know what.
Should I buy a new Android phone? What would I gain?
Lets be realistic. The phone companies just love to put out new phones with minor tweeks so us 'suckers' keep them in business. Where does it end?
Personally I can see buying new, if there is that much more bang for the buck. Otherwise, get the value out of what you have. In IT what you buy today is always a day behind what comes out tomorrow.
JMHO!

i am going to ask you why do you want wp7? it's a huge step backwards for users in several key areas and to regain some of that functionality, you need to do several hacks to get wp7 to do what WM 6.5 can already do with ease.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Cause of interest in wp7, I read many tests and user ratings and played with it a time. After all I would buy myself an iPhone( I hate it ) instead of any wp7 phones. Its the same rubbish like iOS but for iPhone you can get more funny and useless apps . Also if you like a fast and smooth UI, WM6.5 or Android would be a better choice. wp7 will not allow to be really individual with your phone...all phones are the same hardware in other shells with same unchangeable UI. There are many more disadvantages...you should may inform yourself one more time.
But when you already know all of this there is no chance to help you

How are people saying WinMo and Android have faster smoother UI. That is false

Thanks everyone for your input, views and opinions.
As some have said, htc just want us to shell out another $500 just to get wm7 which may or may not be worth it since it does have the same hardware as the current htc hd2 and as it's new, there is a lot less software/apps & with regards to compatability, many existing apps for windows mobile 6.5 will not work with wm7.
Since this is the case, maybe there is no point in even upgrading to wm7 or buying a wm7 phone...
Anyway my other phone is the HTC Desire HD running android 2.2 froyo so I have the best of both.

well ! when phone 7 will be ported to HD2 microsoft will release wino 8 lol!

First of all everything the hd7 has the hd2 has the only major change from the devices is that they added a kickstand.
I for one think that if the hd7 has same hardware as hd2 then running wp7 on hd2 shouldn't really be a difference. In a matter of fact the hd2 runs android well compared to other android devices that were made to run it.

OP, I think you should stay with the HD2. I'd rather have the ability to run four different operating systems (relatively well) than run a single system slightly better.

Indeed. As a matter of fact, i just recently bought an HD2. not full price, less than 300 euros for a brand new unusued unscratched device with 1 y warranty.
I knew very well that W7 was coming out, even that the HD7 was soon to be out. But its the same phone. I like having extra buttons (hate 100% touch phones.. i like to press something when it becomes unresponsive ). I like Winmobile, even if people say its ****. I like my collection of CAB files.
I like HD2. I like 6.5.
i dont like the new presentation of the phone on W7.. plus the apps will be slow to launch etc etc. If u really wanna upgrade, do it in a years time, get ur phone 50% off

That's VERY true. I have indeed tried android on the hd2, it was responsive, quick & reliable.
When you see android running for the first time on your hd2, you smile and think to yourself ''how cool'' I got android on a phone meant to run windows.
Anyway, I will keep my hd2 for now...

They are a slightly different shape, and the TMOUS HD2 has a 1 gig internal ROM, where as the International T8585 only has 512 Mbs. It also has 576Mbs of RAM without having to HSPL and flash a new ROM to enable it.
There is also an Aussie HD2, I can't remember the number of it without Googling, that's got a different frequency range for their 3G & HSDPA, but retains the same International T8585 shape. (*edit* It's a Telstra HD2 T9193)
And yes, they all run Android.
So which one do you suggest? They both operate the same way, meaning adding android?

Well if you live in Australia get the Telstra one, if you live in North America get the T-Mobile one and if you live anywhere else in the world get an International T858. They are all essentially the same phone, they will all run Android exactly the same as one another.
thank you very much
where do you think i can get a T-Mobile one really cheap?
My co worker is selling his to me for $300, the back cover is messed up though..

Being English I wouldn't have a clue. You can pick up new backcovers for ~$30 though I believe.
If you are buying the HD2 solely to run Andoid I would look at getting a HTC phone designed to run that OS. As far as I am aware Android on the HD2 still, eats battery life like it's going out of fashion. I don't run Android on my phone, I think it's a gimmick, so I don't keep much of an eye on the progression of it, it may well be better now. But I still doubt you could make a full day on one charge.
What do you suggest then? I love android.. I've used windows mobile and i didnt like it very much...
So the battery sucks with android on it?
I need a phone with the same specs..

Your decision comes down to where you live...
In the US you can pickup the EVO on sprint or Incredible/DroidX on verizon (only phones w/ specs @ or near HD2's)
If you still want an HD2 you can run Android so-so at this point. I live in the US and have the Telstra T9193 from AUS, because it works here on at&t 3G, TMOUS not really an option for me. I am running Froyo (2.2) at the moment off and on between WinMo. Android on HD2 is a work in progress, everyday it gets better, but no 100% guarantee that it will ever be perfect, because HTC built the HD2 to run WinMo, not Android.
thats correct that they built it to run windows mobile...
the evo is the same exact phone but different os..
i have t mobile...

Most people here will say yes, but it's a dead OS. There are no new apps coming out for it as Windows 7 is being shipped in the coming months. So you can't expect the iPhone/Android app market for WM it's very limited.
If I was you I'd not get the HD2, I'd go for an EVO or a Nexus One or something of the sort, as it's clearly what you are after.
I'm getting pretty much the same battery life with Android (Matt 1. 5 w/latest zimage & kernel, full RAM etc.) as I do with WinMo. It's pretty much fully functional now, and it keeps getting better.
That said, I still love WinMo. It's a very different experience with Android. Some things work better, some things less so, and ultimately I prefer having the choice to being stuck with one or the other. It'd be untrue if I said I'd bought my HD2 without hoping that an Android port would be on the horizon, and the same for WP7. It's a real testament to the skill and dedication of the many devs involved that its gotten this far.
I don't know if I'd recommend the HD2 to people who just want to run Android. The Desire HD is on the way, and it's basically the Desire with the HD2's screen. The HD2 is more of a best of both worlds device, but if you've never used WinMo extensively.. I recommend it, yet I don't know if it's necessarily the same audience Android has.
Still, I'd not settle for anything less at this stage - it can only keep getting better, and if you (like me) enjoy modding each and every aspect of your smartphone, there is nothing better out there right now (Maybe the N900, HD2 has better hardware though).
As for the model, doesn't matter - just check up on the 3G bands and buy the cheapest and most useful one for you.

Would WM7 be ported to HD2?
Im selling my Motorola Cliq for 250$ and i just got someone who wants it

EVO and HD2 have similar specs, but unfortunately there's a lot more different than similar, or we would have had android running better and faster than we do now.
Personally I love WinMo 6.5.x, you can do so much w/ it with the great Chefs around here. The reason I am playing w/ android so much is because when my HD2 dies or I just decided to move on I may make the jump to android, because as much as I love WinMo (6.5.x) the new WindowPhone7 that's coming to replace the WinMo OS blows in my opinion.
M$ had decided to turn the WinMo into a locked, neutered, iphone copy-cat to cash in on peoples desire to not have to think and still use a "smartphone". I like the idea of standardizing hardware requirement so all manufactures produce quality phones so every manufacturer spits out the same good experience, but the OS is lacking.......... I wish M$ had decided to continue to develop WinMo 6.5.x parallel to WP7 (business/tech-savvy & then media-player driven WP7 for the others)
/rant over
The call is yours, but FYI WinMo 6.5 support and app development is pretty much over since everyone (app/product designers) focusing on WP7. Like I said earlier android, to me, seems to be the future of smartphones, could be wrong, but I am not impressed with the new WP7 that's coming out.
Personally I would research WP7 to see if you like it, hate it or can live with it, because that's M$ new direction. Android has so many options it's not even funny. Motorola is a big time player in the android OS market now along w/ HTC. If I had the choice I would get an EVO from sprint, but sprint is only so-so (data) coverage around where I live.
Also since you are TMO you can still find a Nexus One, I know its a slightly smaller screen, but bad ass phone and similar specs. A lot HD2 builds are based on the NO.
Sorry I can't just tell you what phone to get, since it is such a personal choice, I only hope I was able to get you some info to think on as you make your decision. Good luck.
Wow everyone here is very helpful! I wish there was a "Thank You" button
If i do sell my Cliq in less than 2 weeks, I will get the HD2 to experiment with it.
I rooted my Cliq to add Android 2.1, as you can see, I love changing roms to experience different tastes...
It seems like the HD2 has a lot of roms, I think it would be perfect for me.
I can't buy a Nexus One because I don't have $500 to buy a phone like that

Aye it's worth a go, if worse comes to worse and you don't like it, you can always sell it on again.
I love WM 6.5.x, I love the programs and the UI. I hope you'll get on with it and dual booting with Android as well.
TMOUS vs International HD2
http://pocketnow.com/thought/t-mobile-hd2-vs-htc-hd2-comparison
This is the difference between the TMOUS HD2 and the international one
I live in egypt and i went for the TMOUS, as it's better and alot cheaper
the only issues are : being branded and the boot up animation for T mobile
i got it worth $ 450 brand new and unlocked with code
i love this phone really, but really wish to try out android, but i don't like fooling around with the original software, i prefer the stock rom, in my opinion the best stability

I think it's safe to say no.
If you want to run android full-time, I'd get a native android phone. If your using t-mobile, I would go with the samsung galaxy s... (i think it's called something else at t-mobile)... It has as fast of processor as HD2, but it also has a dedicated gpu, so it will be much quicker with apps and games... and it run android natively. It will probably cost about the same as getting the HD2 from t-mobile... probably 150-200 with contract... maybe cheaper.

Tell me HTC HD7 is not our phone ) (HD2)
Yeah it's already been relized that the HD7 is an HD2 with more internal memory and WP7. Not much to see here and honestly I think the HD2 is still one of the nicest looking phones ever.
But yes were it not for the three button rule then I am sure the Official update would have come. But I would prefer a run from sdcard option like Android with WM6.5.3 on Nand.
I finally got excited for the upcoming WP7

Unless you're rocking the TMOUS HD2 with the 1GB ROM & the 16GB included micro-sd card
Seems the same as the TMOUS HD2, except for the S-LCD, no card slot (8GB internal) and camera recording in 720p, but still 5mpx, same camera?? better sound, but main specs are almost if not identical.
I´d better keep my Hd2 with Android and eventually WP7.
Since the HD7 and HD2 share so much of the same components, doesnt that make a WP7 port to the HD2 relatively simple ??

yes , this is the next step , maybe cotulla will make us an suprise.
Im also hoping someone surprises us with a nice WP7 ROM. I'd love to see it

I am still better off with HD2 ............. No SD-slot ? 8GB for Europe ? I have 28 GB data on my SD-card !
No CHT, no WP, no MetalDetector, no apps, I stay with my HD2
no sd card
looks like Microsoft's a lil mad about andriod on sd i would def get an hd 7 if i could boot android on it at some point in time no more dual boot for us ;(
Nice to see comment's on this thread.
I have the feeling I was the only one who don't like the WP7 concept, but reading some expression/opinions here it seams I'm not the only one.
I have the impression that the HD2 is miles before the WP7
Not only the UI is smoother but gives us more personal personality!
WP7 = a iPhone wit windows logo
I am highly disappointed. Same 1Gh processor speed so expected to work slower with WM7 than WM6.5. Again back to the slooooooow windows. Noooo, no way. My 16Gb card is almost full and HTC expects I to return to 8 GB without option for upgrade?????

Have you actually seen Engadget videos showing the OS running and the xbox live feature? There is nothing slow about it. 1ghz is fast, and even faster when running efficient code and correct graphics drivers. As great as it is, neither WinMo or Manila is running efficiently, or using good drivers (out of the box)
What interests me is the XBOX live achievements and points. I think this will be a big selling point for them and a step in the right direction!
Really until 4G and HD voice (AMR-WB) come to the UK mainstream the HTC HD2 will do me fine. Plus like everyone else said I think HTC could have done more. Then again do they need to against the competition at the moment. I think when they are on the backfoot they will produce something special.
I'd love a 12M, Surround sound, 4.5" high DPI screen with AMR-WB please ;-)

Here's a look at the proper successor to the HTC HD2, the HD7. It's a Windows Phone 7 device launching on T-Mobile in November at probably a $200 price point. It's a very thin device with a kickstand in the back

WP7 sucks big time!!!
Another thing you all didn't mention, no synchronization with Outlook with your contacts and your agenda! Yes, it has Office Mobile, but no synchronization with Outlook on your desktop PC! WTF?! This is a MAJOR drawback, especially for the business market.
No people, this is like going back to the stone age. Sorry Microsoft, you spoiled a good thing, instead of evolving you into something better, you made a Neanderthal OS system compared to your Homo Sapien WM 6.5.
I hope for HTC that they let Microsoft foot the bill for putting so much restrictions on their hardware in order to use their OS. Like, what is a phone without expandable memory??! How could you let Microsoft put so much restrictions on your hardware??!
I will be keeping my HD2 for the time-being and I know you guys here on XDA will keep the ROM's coming for it. And besides, I NEED my navigation! Can't do without it, and as long as no third-party apps are available for WP7, I won't be switching!
I agree with the part that Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot with this OS, it's doomed from the beginning. iPhone and Android have evolved much further and nobody is looking for a restricted copy of any of these, that's what was nice with WM, totally customizable and flexible the way WE wanted it.
One bit of advice to Microsoft: Stick to PC's and leave the Phone OS market behind.

I'm agree with you, ether I don't like the UI (if we can speak of UI) but I must be honest the external look of the device is nice!
But it's the same as a nice box but without anything in it
If this was a WM phone thy make in 1995 I would say, okay it is a start but there is a long way to go! But now almost 2011 thy came with this look???
I have the impression that this time WM will win the Award fore ugliness!
And I don't like the monopole of it so that 3th hands can't build there UI on it.

HD2 WP7 Hack good for microsoft?

I've been thinking about this and surely it is in their interests for the hack to happen, we have android already. so if you grow to like android chances are when you get a new phone/contract you'll get an android device..?
Which brings about my point .. consider the hd2 a try before you buy for your next Gen wp7 device .... I'm going to give it a go myself but I really like android ATM ... that cotulla is some guy
My thoughts I posted on Pocketnow:
I have an HD2 with 6.5 on it. As 6.5 has been "killed off", I am now running Android as my daily driver... And it's fantastic! I've already spent £30 in the App store, I'm beginning to use Gmail, Google, etc.
If MS choose to give me a code, then I will do the same with WP7, and have a fair trial of both before deciding what works best in my life.
But at the moment, I can't trial it other than in shops/off friends, and it's becoming a one-horse race for Android. If MS want to tempt the many many thousands of HD2 users, they should turn a blind eye to this.
My hardware is less than a year's old, there's no way I'm buying a new phone for another 12 months.
It's absolutely good, I just bought a HD7 after having used WP7 on my HD2 because it was just flakey enough, and I missed having full use of my camera... proof that the hack is good.

the hd7 is one of the nicest looking phones out there, but the hd2 is is just king of all phones, being able to run both solid builds of wp7 and android.
if i lost my hd2, i'd gladly pay out the same money i did a year ago for it
Yes, i have the same idea) I have HD2 with WP7, and now a im going to buy HD7 =)
I have tried both WP7 and Android on the HD2 and would have stayed with WP7 if it wasnt for not being able to watch flash or copy and paste, and microsoft is just giving away codes i personally have called twice for activation codes and was able to use marketplace and everything. I will forever be a fan of android though especially on our HD2's because there are so many different flavors and im a big fan of choice, and android also has a better market. The apps for WP7 suck to me but i did love the tiles.
It's definitely worked on me! I can't even imagine using another OS after using WP7. I will be getting an HD7 once it's time to upgrade. I'll always keep, use, & love my HD2, but will go to a native WP7 device soon. The apps I used & need on Android are now on WP7 & superior to the Android versions, so I'm very happy with WP7. A few minor changes & this will be the closest to perfection mobile OS, imo.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
the full power of Android and the "beautiful" design of WP7 will be the perfect combination to MobileOS right?
HD2 is a powerful machine till now.
Shall other devices even more powerful upcome soon? Maybe a full Windows 7, MacOS or Linux in a 4.3 inches screen device with the camera and phone features is what we are waiting for!!! or not, but I found that I love how simple is WP7.
peace out fellas!!!
Lovin WP7 on the HD2. My only issue is MMS messages, but this is definitely going to make me get a HD7 once my upgrade comes around.

What is your opinion about my mind & some Q

Hi!
i'll buy HD2, this is because experience WP7.
The reason for this strange thinking, was after the announcement of the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia.
I enjoy not wm and also stopped to buy Nokia phones, But what made me re-thinking is wonderful Nokia N900 running Maemo, After the powers given by Microsoft to Nokia, Imagine the improvements to the WP7.But my fear I do not like this system, so i'll try it in HD2. if i like it i will buy nokia's WP phone. if i don't i will sell it.
What do you think . Is my thinking correct ?

Questions:
-Any problems with android and WP7 on HD2 ?
-There are two versions of HD2 European and U.S. & the second is better than the first in the rom and the ram. Do the European have a negative impact on WP7.
sry for my bad language
The only person who can take a final decision is you.
WP7 is a totally new approach, inspired by iOS, and not as open as Windows Mobile or Android.
In my personal opinion, HD2, as of today, is quite an economic way to go, you can actually run 3 platforms without big flaws: WinMo, WP7, and Android. None of those makes big problems, while WP7 feels as "native" on HD2 like on any "official" WP7 device.
If you are more into tweaking and modding, WinMo and Android will remain your favorites, maybe some other OS´s in the future, who knows. I own my HD2 since the day it was available in my country, never had any problems, and I flashed probably 50 or even more times. Currently, I run WP7 because I got tired of all the modding and tweaking, and I like the flawless operation of WP7. Sometimes I go back to my "fallback" WinMo ROM for eye candy.
If you´re not sure what to do, why don´t you try to get a hand on some devices to compare the platforms. Keep in mind that an HD2 runs several OS´s, that is definitely unique. It might be worth to give it a try if you´ve got the funds. And as soon as Nokia will be ready, the other manufacturers will have new generation devices on the market, too.
If you don't mind doing work then get HD2 and trust me when I say this Leo is the most versatile device in terms of development. I got Leo1024 months before it was officially out in TMoUS till the day was stolen not once I had issue. If you want to stick with WM6.5.X over WM7 you will be better of as base 29XXX super stable and fast. If you want Android then select nandroid over ram/sd version as it's more maintained. But in the end its all up to you as you have to understand Leo is 2years old device yet it still kicks punch as it made industry standard regardless of POS.Evo long before it was even stolen from us

HD2 Confusion, to keep or not to keep

The HD2, has introduced me to both WP7 and Android.
One day I load up WP7 and say to myself, this is the perfect operating system why do I need anything else.
The the next day I boot into Android and say the same.
Then I think I should sell my HD2 and buy a HD7, then I think NO, I should buy a Desire HD, then I think I should keep the HD2.
Problem is you can still get some money for a HD2 and be able to put it towards a newer phone, can't justify buying another phone.
Here are my confused thoughts, Android seems to be getting more and more fragmented, probably best to wait until the new dual cores arrive, or I could add cash to the sale of my HD2 and get a brilliant Desire HD, but then will this be any better than I already have.
Or I could go the route of WP7 and get a HD7, the future looks new and fresh for this operating system, as am not entirely sure how long Microsoft will allow us HD2 owners to use activation codes, will future updates continue by the amazing DFT team, will Microsoft put a stop to it all, so many if's, so If I go for an official HD7 I would not have to worry about all this.
Sorry to ramble on about this, but as you can see I am confused.
So I need the straight to the point style XDA members to kick me up the bum and give there polished advice?
There is no phone with significant hardware upgrades over the HD2 besides maybe the Atrix, but I wouldn't waste my time with that motocrap. Selling the device now instead of later might yield even up to $100 more but IMO it's not worth it, you can run WM6.5, Android, and WP7 (nodo soon).
If you buy an HD7 I can almost guarantee you will regret that decision in about a week or less, the HD2 is the exact same phone except multi-touch doesn't work quite as well and that's it. what other Android device you gonna buy, DHD really? Why? ok the display is a little better, not worth the hassle. Wait until an Evo3D type of device comes to GSM, big screen, Sense, dual-core, good stuff.
If I were you I'd stick with my HD2 till something significantly better in the Android world comes out, or an iPhone 5.
I think it's not worth to upgrade. The spec of HD7 and Desire HD are more or less the same to HD2.
Sounds like upgrading just for the sake of an upgrade. My contract date is due in 6 weeks, I'll be keeping the Leo and just dropping to a sim only contract for less than half the price. The money I save ill be buying a spare Leo for when mine finally snaps.(broken screen, not rigid anymore,,, the adrenaline surges when you hear it bend and creak in your pocket, lemme tell you!)
what I think is,
firstly, you need to ask yourself which system you prefer more.
I have used both of android and WP7. What I learned is that even Leo can run both of them, it cannot show all the advantage.
For example, I got a Dell streak running an android 2.2. I found that the battery consumption, the camera quality, the speaker volume and so on are so much better than my Leo with Froyo, although the main hardwares of Leo and Streak are supposed to be exactly the same. These maybe due to the driver faulty when being ported.
And I got an HD7 as well. The reason I bought HD7 is that I'm sick of using the physical button on my Leo. And also there is no physical shutter and auto focusing on Leo. Don't you think when you're taking picture with your Leo, the image looks really bad? Without this, you may not really experience the most advantage of WP7 - social network.
Personally, I'll go for the HD7. If you buy a DHD, I pretty sure you'll regret that because it'll sometimes be really laggy, and this would be a common problem of all android device currently (because I had never try any dual-core phone). Now I already put my Dell Streak aside because as a phone and as a communication tool WP7 is amazing.
I'll never go for iPhones. I hate iTune... haha
Camera quality in android is both drivers and HTC's fault, if there is anything to blame, I found images pleasing, although it was a bit aggresive with sharpening. HTC's fault being their imaging algorithim may not be up to par with the streak's own, as you say. Driver's fault in being that the camera driver is not entirely the HD2's own.
Well any experienced HD2 user knows full well WP7 on the HD2 doesn't give us auto focus. hence why a dev developed a camera app that lets us auto focus.
Now stock rom of a dhd? More likely it will be "laggy", aren't all android stock roms "laggy" anyways? But on a custom rom it will perform better. But the "laggy" doesn't come from android, it comes from HTC sense. Hence why non sense builds perform so nicely. So yeah, i'm just pointing out that not all android devices face this problem, nor do they have to. The solution is to simply install a non sense build.

well, the camera may be my personal problem. I was just making an example. to me, taking photo anywhere and sharing it on facebook, flickr whatever immediately is very cool. That's why i can't accept an HD2 with WP7.
for the android, based on my experience, the lag doesn't come from android itself. it's due to the way it runs. Not only the HTC sense will make the device laggy, dell stage is also doing the same thing. Every time when I'm sliding from screen to screen, as long as the background data or auto sync is on and I turn to a screen which got a widget needing to download or refresh, it could be laggy. For example, the HTC Favorite and some news feed widgets. I also tried the ADW launcher, it's the same. The more widgets, the more laggy it is. and working with Wifi would be better than only running on 3G network. I also tried some customized roms. It is much better than the stock rom indeed and the one with original laucher is really the best as you said. but I'm a guy who like eyes candies...compared to iOS and WP7, this lag is really intolerable, at least to me...
in term of Market Apps, Iphone is best. So many useful apps and can be easily downloaded.
You can easily get bored with the GUI, just the same as WP7.
Android is good, I have both HTC Aria and HTC Desire Z. Even their processor speed is lower than HD2, but it runs faster (default clock). But, I hate that I cant download commercial apps in the Android Market (not open in my region)
My HD2 will either be sold (if someone is willing to buy) or kept it as a portable wifi router
Cheers
keep the Leo
My personal experiences with Android and WP7 phones weren't anything spectacular.
My Leo is definitely better than either for what I use it for.
I will not be upgrading anytime soon unless something really spectacular comes out that just blows me away.
My advice, stick with your Leo, run WP7 on it and dual boot with Android on SD.
Win-win
