[How To] + [MOD] Custom Transition Animations (UPDATED) - Droid X General

Watching the same transition animations over and over is boring. You can speed them up with Spare Parts or you can just shut them off entirely within settings. There is, though, a third road: change 'em.
These are videos of most of the transition animations packs (Drod's rubiX animations, Fab's animation mix, and Android Stock have no videos at present).
Flip
YouTube - Android Screen Transitions
Bounce
YouTube - Samsung moment animations, bounce
Fold
YouTube - Sbtwca
FlyIn
YouTube - Samsung moment animations, fly in
There are two preferred ways to use these animations:
1. Add Animations Using Metamorph: should work for most roms. Thanks Haxzamatic!
Transition Animation MetaMorph Files - http://bit.ly/gwEB5F
Note: there is no current MetaMorph file for either Android Stock or Fab's mix (see below).
2. Manually Add Animations: should work for most roms
This process will be helpful for those wanting to mix and match animations from the folders. In fact, why don't you create your own mix and post it here so everyone else can appreciate your awesomeness. I'll add new mixes below if they come in.
1. Simply get ahold of the anim folder with the animations you want to use and the framework-res.apk from the rom you're interested in modifying (/system/framework/framework-res.apk).
2. Open up the framework-res.apk in 7zip (right click on it, and select "open archive").
3. Drag the anim folder with the animations (which you can download below) into /res folder in your framework-res.apk. This will replace the files currently in /res/anim.
4. Exit out of 7zip.
5. You now need to push the modified framework-res.apk onto the phone. You can do this by placing the modified framework-res.apk in the root sdcard folder, and entering the following into terminal emulator on your phone or using ADB when the sdcard is mounted:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
If you're using terminal emulator, your phone will probably reboot before you finish re-mounting and/or typing reboot.
NOTE: This is taken almost wholesale from MagnusRagnarok (initial post) and ronhova (detailed instructions) on XDA; they deserve the credit. Link To Original Post.
Since this process modifies your rom's framework-res.apk, it obviously won't work with other roms. Translation: don't take the framework you've just modified and try to put it on other roms. IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL DIE.
Animation Files: for manual addition
Bounce
Flip
Fly In
Fold
Drop In (from Drod's rubiX focused series)
Fly In and Flip Mix (from Fab's Apex)
Android Stock

Nice!!
But credit should really go to MagnusRagnarock. I just like it so much that I had to have it for my droid x.
Oh by the way, some of you might not get pass the second line of code. After you push the framework-res.apk back to your phone, the phone will do a soft reboot inside terminal. Applying all your changes. Don't freak out!
I recomend mixing and matching the transitions. Looks even better!
I'm using the fold transition for my lock screen and the fly transition for everything else.

Hey there, thanks for the instructions, by the way. You should post /anim folder so we can all enjoy your custom set. If I had more time I'd be experimenting like crazy to get the perfect mix.

I made some morphs so there easy to apply. Sadly I don't have a X to try on. They worked great with CM6. As long as the framework is in /system/framework
it should work. Great find

Ok I'm sorry if this is a little of topic but I would like yo try this but when I go to download 7 zip and set it up it tells me to first scan my registry and I find this highly odd.....I have downloaded 4 times from 4 places that I have looked up including what I thought was the main site and get this prompt...does anyone have a proper link for 7 zip?

you are so incredible thanks yes it works in the droid X and they are amazing thanks for the work

Thank you haxzamatic. I just used these on Fission 2.2.1 and they seem to be working. No force closes or anything.

can someone please tell me which xml file deals with the opening of an app? i only want an effect when an app opens.
thanks.

I keep getting to the third line of code and get a can't state device or resourse busy. Any Ideas? I've formatted my SD card fat32 and placed the framework-res.API on the SD card. Anything that I'm missing??? Thanks for the transitions, simply amazing with
gingerbread.

Anyone knows that?

I just tried flip on my D1 via metamorph, it didn't work...

Hi all - I tried it too - worst than no luck - it make my phone unusable.
1) it wrote there are no space for frameworl.apk - unfortunately original framework was deleted or changed
- then nearly all app and android does not respond
only one way is power off, but phone hangs at samsung logo. There are no samsung small blinking word and android will not start
- luckily reflash firmware with ODIN via download mode works
2) same step, but first I deleted Layar.apk from system folder to be sure I ahve enough space like author of flying animation JPF ROM at this forum.
I repeated then again copy framework with same space result and phone unusable, again flash over ODIN - I give up :-(
I tried mount as ro as at step 3rd, but it wrote busy message like someone else alraedy posted here.
- updated - I manually removed Layar.apk and Maps.apk from /system folder
then I had enough space for copy framework-res.apk
but still command mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
wrote cannot unmount, system busy
I rebooted phone normally and I am testing if framework changed or what happened
I already successfully enabled LiveWallpapers and now only framework is what I am missing from ROM with flying animation JPF ROM at this forum.
Any tips ?
I have I5800XXJPM from samfirmware.com , rooted ...

Flashlight Preinstalled in Vodafone Froyo release

Hi,
Can anybody extract the APK for the LED Torch app preinstalled in Froyo?
I saw that the one include with Froyo on the Desire works with a Desire with Eclair. (But doesn't work with my Legend) So I would like to check if the one included in Froyo for the Legend will also work with the Legend on Eclair.
The package name is com.htc.flashlight
Thanks!
U don't have to wait....
Try this APP: Lamppu
But first u have to (Soft)root your Legend with (Universal Androot)
After that, install superuser APP. Now start Lamppu and allow superuser rights...
Now u can use your LED as torch.
Tried it self on my legend v.2.1
Sure about the name?
The only thing I found in the Modaco ROM was Flashlight.apk
Then again...I have no clue what I am doing
above file is not working
Yeah it doesn't install
Ok gentlemen, one more try.
Extracted, re-zipped and signed the apk using apk-manager.
Removed the system app from my phone using TitaniumBackup and installed the signed apk through Root Explorer.
Works for me. No guarantee that it does for any other ROM or Android version though.
Sorry for the video but I just found out how to do screencasts and love it
Its German but you should be able to understand it.
Notice that it is now uninstallable and listed as downloaded app.

Installed and ran for me in stock 2.1 but it didn't do anything with the flash when playing with it
Thanks for trying!
This one is installing correctly, and also loading correctly, but it doesn't light up the LED.
So it isn't working
Are you phones rooted?
First of all, you have to have deodexed apk and second, you need to set right permissions in sysfs.

The apk is deodexed. As for the permissions. No clue how to set them right
Had to read up an hour last night just to learn enough to extract it. Big newbie here hehe. Guess I'll check some threads about sysfs permissions and try it again later.
Sysfs is everything under /sys directory. File /sys/class/leds/flashlight/brightnes should have read-write permission set for everyone.

Ahhh thanks! I guess I understand now.
Ok I just flashed whitetigerdk's rev03 ROM which is a rooted 2.03 ROM.
Than I did the following in adb shell:
Code:
chmod 777 /sys/class/leds/flashlight/brightness
checked permissions with:
Code:
cd /sys/class/leds/flashlight
ls -l
and it has rw permission for everyone now.
Code:
-rwxrwxrwx root root 4096 2010-12-01 16:29 brightness
Problem is, that booting the phone resets the permissions.
EDIT:
I just repeated the procedure while the phone was booted in normal mode.
Permissions successfully changed AND flashlight is working correctly, including all three different light settings!
Still, a reboot resets the permissions.
Guess I have to find a way to make this change permanent now and all is done
Hah so cool. Never used chmod or any other linux command until today. Had to google everything while I was testing. Nice how much one can learn here.
Another EDIT:
Found something else that is interesting.
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/Manifest.permission.html#FLASHLIGHT
Would adding this to the AndroidManifest.xml help aswell? I'd do it myself but I have to work soon. Just tried it decoding the xml with AXMLPrinter and adding it. Unfortunatly I don't know how to save the xml in the right format again and just saving it corrupts the apk. If noone else wants to give it a try I'll check back after work.

Yeah... this is done via init.rc which is inside initrd image. So you have two options... tweak init.rc (you would need to unpack boot.img image and extract initrd image, edit init.rc, make new initrd image and construct back boot.img... this can all be done in one swoop with dsixda's kitchen) or make a script that is run every boot (we are doing it via run-parts which also requires editing of init.rc... once again dsixda's kitchen can add this functionality in a single swoop)...
As for "android.permission.FLASHLIGHT" I'm not sure about it as I can see that HTC is doing it avoiding it (setting permissions to 666 by default in FroYo)...
If you want decoding/encoding xmls use ApkManager. It's a nice CLI tool that can decompile and compile apks back...
You are quite a fast learner, congrats.
Back home Got pretty late.
I don't actually need this since I am running a rooted Froyo ROM anyways but thought it would be an interesting task to get this working for others to easily use it and for me to learn more about Android. The first option sounds like it would require a bit too much end-user activity and would be limited to a certain set of ROMs if I understand it correctly.
Leaving the second and third option as the most user-friendly ones I guess.
I will read up more on init.rc and ways to script for it tomorrow. Sounds like a very powerful "tool" to know.
For now I will concentrate on the XML. Might be the most comfortable and ROM-independent way if I get it to work.

Used Apk Manager to extract, zip and sign the apk in the first place. Really nice tool. Just didn't find an option to convert the xml from binary to readable, that's why I used AXMLPrinter2.jar which can do the conversion one-way but not back to binary.
I'll find a way
Thanks again for the input! Helped me a lot!

XOOM Honeycomb Boot Animation [PORT]

Hey guys.. if you like the new boot animation from Motorola XOOM, i've sort of ported it to Milestone/DROID
in fact i just modded the desc.txt resolution settings.. but it seem working pretty well
so, here you go
if you don't know how to deal with bootanimations, feel free to ask
EDIT: use sileshn's version.. this is actually portrait mode animation, not fullscreen
do i just flash this in clockwork mod recovery?
i tried, i have cm7
and it didnt take (cm7 boot screen still showing)
Landscape mode
The same bootanimation in landscape mode.
much better if you add preview here

Just use rootexplorer to replace your existing bootanimation.zip. It should either be in /system/media or /data/local. If there is no bootanimation.zip in either directories, just place the downloaded file to /data/local.
edit : Just checked. In CM7, the bootanimation file is in /system/media.

Better option, download the attached zip file, inside there is a mp4 file, make in run in your media player with automatic repeat.

well... landscape animation look better for me....
Landscape mode
Aarght.. sorry guys, i thougt it'd be already in landscape. i actually tried playing it in terminal only and that somehow happened to be in landscape..probably 'cause i had my hw keyboard open

you have to remount the /system partition as read/write in order to be able to rewrite the old one..
you can do it in Terminal Emulator..this will to the trick:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock6 /system
nice boot animations
can have it in Live Wallpaper
I really like that honeycomb animation.
Very cool.
The only issue I would have is that it would be hard to tell if you are getting a boot loop or if it's just taking a long time to boot.
I attached one that I made which includes an "intro" to the honeycomb animation - the milestone bios/boot animation that I'm sure most of you have seen.
Edit: See post 18 below for an updated version.

If his method doesn't work, try this..
I've done a few boot animations this way.. put the bootanimation.zip on the root of your SD card (make sure it's named bootanimation.zip if you're using windows, just right click the file and "Rename". don't put .zip at the end, Windows does that for you. Not sure about Macs..), and go into Terminal Emulator (you can download one from the Market for free) and type the following, hitting enter after each line:
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot
note that when you hit enter after the 2nd line, it may take a few secons before you get the # sign again. once you see it, type reboot and enter. and you're all set!

should i rename file to work it ?
Yeah it has to be named bootanimation.zip
I always give downloaded animations descriptive names so I can tell what it is just by looking at it.
Usually, I make a copy, rename the copy, and install that.
btw I noticed a stray frame that caused a stutter so I redid it.
I also noticed that the animation was too slow at 10 fps so I sped it up a bit....
It was 10 fps because that's what the original bios animation was set at.
I bumped it up to 20.
thanks friend
very beautiful.

Remove Thunder Boot Sound [See post 15 for app]

Just thought I would give a heads up to anyone who wants to rid themselves of the annoying boot sound.
It is located in /system/media and the file name is FinalThunder.mp3. Move it to FinalThunder.mp3.old and it's gone.
I'd write a quick update script, but the new update-binary format escapes me.
Hope that helps.
Good tip, I was glad that moving that sound file to somewhere more accessible was part of the ROM image cause I also like to remove that sound. I like to tinker with the phone at work sometimes so a quiet boot is necessary
I know whatcha mean man. I can just imagine me rebooting in school with a crack of THUNDA! Thanks Unheard.
yo, just fyi, i couldn't find it in /system/media; found out that it gets moved there on the debloat rom.
for non debloat rom users, its here /system/customize/resource
Thanks for the tip . The sound was really annoying
Thank you! It works
man I love that sound myself
how do you rename it? I tried es file explorer, hit the file and rename to .old but operation failed!
I added this mp3 of windows 95 crashing and the windows breaks perfectly to when the lighting flashes kinda funny but work goodwhen i renamed it to FinalThunder.mp3 http://www.zedge.net/ringtones/303308/windows-95-crash-ringtone/
Hehe, I'm a thunder crashing sound whore, myself
You need to use root explorer or another root file explorer.
I noticed when you remove the bootanimation from the same folder the stock android boot animation is used!

It's in the /system folder, meaning to modify it:
1) You need to be logged in as a super-user (root).
2) You need to make the /system directory writable.
1) Root your device, adb shell into it, and type "su".
2) Upon logging in as su, type:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
Flashed and all looks well, although the font is painful
Made a simple app to remove and restore the thunderbolt sound, download below
@Other Rom Devs, feel free to include it in your roms
Go cap'n go cap'n go...
Glad you posted this, I rooted yesterday at work & I dunno how many times I had to reboot with the sound of that Thunder cracking everytime. Someone stuck their head up over the cube after about the 5th time & is like WTF IS THAT?!?!
Got it deleted!
Thanks. That sound needed to go.
i want to get rid of it so badly i might start adbin' my phone to get freakin' root to do that! i really like so much zroot for my droidx i wonder when our developers will do something like this for thunderbolt so i dont have to work w/ adb
So after the sound is removed, am I safe to delete the app, or will the sound revert?

[Boot Animation][30 JUL] Android + Circle Progress Bar (CM7) (HVGA/MDPI)

Hey,
I made a custom boot animation for my p500 and decided to share it with you guys. It's very lightweight (only 28 images) and sober, I can't stand those 'l33t' flashy boot animations... maybe I'm getting too old.
Took the 'Android' text from a wallpaper and the circle progress bar from another boot animation (found in UOT Kitchen).
Installation:
1. Save bootanimation.zip in c:\bootanim\ (or anywhere else, but then you will have to change the path in adb push command)
2. Turn on USB Debugging and connect you phone to your PC via USB cable.
3. open command prompt in android-sdk\platform-tools and run the folowing commands*:
adb devices
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
adb push c:\bootanim\bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb shell mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
adb reboot

And that's it. Your phone will restart and you will be able to see the animation in action. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

*you must have the Android SDK installed in order to use the adb tool.

You can do all this with Root Explorer if you have it. Same idea.
I think the OP is trying to edit the SystemUI.apk to include more functions. If so, may take a look here. Not sure if that will help too much or not...?
for the other posting people, here's what I have been running for a while..
basically Darkside's stock SystemUI with a theme hacked together from thread mentioned above as well. MIUI Icon set I think is what he says...
To install:
Download file to C: or where ever(if downloaded to someplace else, fix path in the commands below).
Start Menu --> Run --> cmd
On Windows 7 (or XP): hold the Windows Key on keyboard and press R together. Input CMD and hit OK

I love the last one you've posted.
But could you please replace the vibration by the luminisity control?
And the order would be:
Wifi; Mobile DATA; Bluetooth; GPS, Brightness, Screen Orientation

I have no way to make the right moves Brightness:(
So I removed the BrightnessSettingButton

Hope someone can fix. And add this part.

Thanks, It does not matter anyway.
The Screen is so bright that I always set the brightness to its lowest.

Many many thanks! This needs to be in new thread. please post it or I will.
I really liked the darkside ROM, But I soft bricked my phone at least 15 times trying Arabic letters connecting solutions under 2.3.5. So I flashed the Aura ROM missing the quick panel from the Darkside ROM the most.
Not only I have the quick panel now with Aura 2.3.4, the icons also look cleaner/better.
Great job. Thanks to you and Nottach also!

Any chance you upload your version and share it? I'm looking for exactly the same thing and sadly 2.3.5 Darkside ain't providing that.

It's just the latest Aura ROM (found in the development section) + this awesome quick panel MOD.
Aura is based on 2.3.4. I noticed that arabic fonts were connecting properly in the system+browser with Aura ROM as-is. No framework.jar or lebwebcore.is hacks are needed with that ROM.
Root+Battery % icons MOD+No carrier logo MOD+proper Arabic font connecting+this quick panel MOD is pretty much what I want now in my Atrix. Currently happy to have all that.
Not to mention a lot of other plus features Aura ROM adds.
Hi,
I was using this mod on 2.3.4 and it was great! Just upgraded to Android OS 2.3.6 (att build 4.5.141) and it just boot loops until I replace it back with the original. Is there any way to modify this to work on 2.3.6? Or, is there a version around that I'm not finding that will work on 2.3.6?
Thanks!
