[Q] Sd card strangeness - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi. everytime I mount my Sd card to put files on it (movies music, etc) I expierence something bizarre. I drag and drop and then get the transfer time bar. I can see the files in the folder on my computer, but when I disconnect my phone the files are gone. Ditto with extraneous folder I deleted or basically anything I do. If I boot into WM everything copies just fine though. Running shubcraft 2.0 with oz cleanex ROM. The SD card is the 16 GB one that shipped with the phone. While its sorta obnoxious to have to reboot to move files (esp. since I always forget until aafter ive tried to do it in android) its not something I'm gonna kill myself over. Any help would be appreciated though

It's a problem with the build. I don't know how to fix it but Shubcraft V1.5 was a much more stable build and didn't have this problem

Losing Files help

Hi,
i have a 8gb class4 sd card, how does the 2gb install affect this.
does it mean i can only use 2gb of my card or does this mean i can only install 2gb of apps?
the reason i ask is that i had a lot of music and pics on my sd card the first time i installed android and everything showed up and i was a happy chappy.
Then when i go to swap files over plugged in via usb connection (on android or winmo), the files transfer but then dont show in music player and dissapear from the card altogether after a reboot in android but can be browsed but not played and the original files still stay even after deletion. its the weirdest thing ive ever seen.
i had some issues with the card having corrupt files wiped it/error checked then reset my winmo install and installed android without resident .mp3 files on the sd, added some mp3's all good added apps to android and back to square one. unable to see new files and old files cant be got rid of correctly.
maybe my sd card is at the end of its life?(only 5 months old but well used) might of been unplugged live a few times but still works when if damaged they are virtually unreadable.
mattc's nexus v1.1 was my reinstall after using the previous version, apart from this issue it ran great, but the music function no.1 for me
any help/thoughts more than appreciated
bump
bump, again just transferred files and they dont show
You may need to reformat the card. They recommend this each time you install a new android build.

HELP! can't mount SD card (i've already tried all the fixes)

I've been using android on my phone for awhile, and tried a bunch of different builds and never got this error. Yesterday when i was switching back to shubcraft all of the sudden the boot loader gives me
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: invalid argument
failed
failed to mount sd card. cannot continue.
/bin/sh: cant't access tty; job control turned off
i tried loading just about ever build and get the same thing.
I've changed the startup.txt and i always reformat before i switch builds. i was thinking it might be the sd card itself, but it works fine in winmo.
if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, im having android withdrawls...
oh and its the stock 16gb class 2
EDIT: It randomly started working again...strange...
This Is What I Do
I was getting either the same thing or something very close to it on about 2 rom to the best of my understanding is when your trying to flash (for lack of better words) a new rom you still have some left over traces either on your storage card or the phone so what you need to do is format your SD card and reflash your phones rom.
I took the origin file put it on my sd card unzipped it there went into the android rom folder cut the plain android folder paste it withe the other folders then reased every folder EXCEPT the PLAIN ANDROID FOLDER now put the sd card in the phone enable the the sound then install android.
To be able to watch the process after you flash your rom go to settings, system, power (battery) and uncheck everything so it doesn't sleep. when you install now you will see the progress and will be able to read the progress if you see 2 things have failed
This is my process and it hasn't failed yet when I didn't do it this way I had fails.

you can search a tool named SDFORMATER V2.0, it will be worked.
okay this is now happening to me as well!
had been using Android and various different builds without hitch.
but today after trying the Hyperdroid build the sd card fails to mount on startup.
Editing the startup.txt does nothing, have also flash to the latest chuckyrom and formatted the sd card time and time again and tried different builds.
anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta
working again now.
the fix for me was to reupload my backup to the sd, format then upload the required new build.
very odd...

[Q] HELP: android wont start up for some reason?

NOTE: i posted this in the development thread by mistake, reposting here. sorry
hey everyone
i tried searching the threads but i cant find anyone with my exact problem (or something similar at least).
anyways ive been running dutty's winmo rom, i have a proper .50 radio running, and i have been able to successfully boot into darkstones superram v1.5 for the past few weeks just fine.
one night i forgot to charge the battery so it drained out, in the morning i had to work and i needed a number which was on the android OS of the phone, so i immediately turned on the phone after starting to charge it and booted into android, the phone didnt have enough power though and shut off while it was checking the SD card for errors.
after this point, i started up the phone again after 2 minutes to give it some time to charge, and it was able to get into android, however on hte way to work i tried listening to music and/or getting pictures from my SD card (using astro to search the SD card) but when i clicked on a file everything force closed, the music player froze up everytime i tried to get music going, and things like the sound options in the android settings menu would force close as well.
i figured somethnig messed up on the SD card so i backed up some stuff and formatted the SD card, and reinstalled a fresh version of darkstones superram (new data.img and everything).
when i tried launching android it went to the green HTC screen for a few seconds, then the screen goes black and the phone restarts into winmo.
this kept happening so i figured maybe something went wrong with the windows mobile rom, so i installed an energy rom just now and hte same thing is still happening.
what im going to do today is try it on a different SD card to see if thats the problem, and try another SD android ROM to make sure.
but if anyone can save me some time and knows whats happening here please let me know!
any help is appriciated! thanks!
[Dec 18][RAM] darkstone SuperRAM FroYo v1.5 [kernel: Hastarin custom]
I am assuming you are using the above.
It sounds like your SD card was "damaged", try refreshing it this way.
Assuming you are using Windows PC.
Download SD Card Formatter 3 and install.
Insert SD card into card reader
Start up SD Card Formatter 3, it should detect your SD Card.
Click on OPTIONS button
Format = FULL (ERASE ON)
Format Size Readjustment = ON
Click OKAY then START
When done, put only important stuff back, like music, documents, videos, etc..
Then start Darkstone Froyo from scratch, in case those files were damaged before the backup.

[Q] Bad SD Card?

I've been getting the SD card was unexpectedly removed error for my 8GB card. Can repeat this issue by moving pocket god (or several smaller apps) to the SD card. I can how ever copy 8GB worth of data from a PC onto it, so is this issue with android/my phone or is the SD card just acting weird like this? A 2GB I got with it works just fine, just it isn't large enough to suit my needs.
Things I've tried - erasing card within android, formating to fat32 within windows as well as defragging, and threatening it with magnets.
Phone is HTC Legend running "Gingerbread + CyanogenMod". Download the ROM from derhofbauer.at/android/
Later;
Now when I copy it through the phone usb it now dismounts, but I can copy it fine through an adapter I'm using. Seems this is phone related. Will try using my default firmware tomorrow when I get time. Any suggestions here are welcome and encouraged... Really like the way this ROM looks as well as functions
It may well be the ROM, I saw some stuff on gerrit about fixing it. Check with BlaY0's ROM (or similar) or CM 6.1, see what happens
Is there a way I could go about backing up my exact settings, contacts, apps etc. into my own custom rom so if it isn't the ROM I use I could quickly go back? Still a complete idiot with android so haven't figured out theming yet and like my current ROMs look
edit;
If it was my ROM wouldn't my 2 GB one be acting up as well? Cause it's working perfectly fine, I plan on trying to return the SD card tomorrow but got a feeling they won't accept it back...

It might not, 2GB card is most probably SD aka SD 1.x, 8GB is SDHC aka SD 2.0...It might be related...
To backup your settings and ROM I would recommend backing it all up with nandroid (CWM, FakeFlash) or if you want to, you can ue some apps like Titanium Backup, My backup etc...but backing-up/restoring settings/home screens might not work across ROMs, especially going from Stock-like to CM...Contact are saved via your Google account any synchronized afterwards anyway, so don't worry there ;-)

Android SD is deleting all new files on SD card and new files not visible

Hello,
i have 2 problems:
1. I formated my 8 GB card under FAT32 and i copied on Andorid. Then i copied some apps on the card to install them, but when i opened Files explorer in android, the files were not there. Then i opened the card again in windows, and they were there again!!! So they are visible in windows and not visible in android
2. I put back my music on the card, it was ok for 30 mins and after that all the new files on the card ware gone! Only the android folder was there!
What to do?
Anybody can help?
Am i the only one with this problem
From what I remember this has been a problem when using Android to move files to your sdcard, are you using Nand or SD?
After you copy something try rebooting and then it should show up. Way back when before Nand we had to do it this way as for some reason Android will not see the new file until you reboot.
I've restarted the phone several times, but still no files...
Are you using a SD or Nand rom?
SD. All i can see on the card from droid file manager are only the droid files.
Update: After moving the files on the phone while in WM, now i can see them in Android also... for now I will update it if android deletes them or something...

Glad you got it sorted out, yeah mounting your sdcard while running an SD Android rom has never been the most reliable. I would definitely suggest doing it in WinMo from now on to avoid any issues
