[Q] front facing camera or led light - Venue Pro General

Have any of you guys noticed on the front of the Venue pro in the top right there are two circles? You need to put the phone at the right angle but they are definitely there. Could these possibly be for something more than just sitting there? I'm saying this because I just got the phone the other day and I was stupid and didn't try the SIM out until I was home and now I have to wait a few days to go back because there is so much snow at my house so I've just been messing with it. I typed this all on the onscreen keyboard so I'm just becoming more and more convinced that I don't need a physical keyboard with wp7 lol. The hd7 has the storage space I want but the Dell has the screen I want! What is man to do...

Yea. Its a 3d camera. And they shipping right now. Hurry

Mod edit: Please don't give stupid answers if someone is asking a serious question

The unit has neither a front facing camera or a notification LED light. Those are both just sensors (proximity and one for the auto brightness).
Though I do like the 3d camera idea..

i think it is sensor like HD2 had, it turn off screen in call when you put your face next phone in a call, it turn off screen, so you dont activate other applications.

If you can't be helpful please, at least don't post these snide remarks.
Thank you

It is an IR LED. If I point it towards my media center IR reciever it flashes about once a second

Notification led position

Had my handset for a few days now, its got a really good feel to it and is well put together but noticed today that the notification led is located behind the speaker piece on the left hand side, however there is a small hole on the right hand side which looks like it should be for the led?
Does anyone else have this? At first I thought the speaker piece was in the wrong way but all pictures on line look the same way as mine so wondered if the led was in the wrong place.

That's the proximity sensor/light sensor. Used as the proximity sensor for turning the phone off when it gets close to your face and back on when you take it away, and used as the light sensor when you have it set to auto-brightness.

[Q] Does the HTC Desire Z have a secret front-facing camera?

I noticed this unusual feature the other day - not long after I got my brand new phone! I was actually sitting in the car, viciously wiping any dirt off my screen (hadn't gotten the screen protector yet) when I turned the phone and the sunlight hit it at this angle, and I saw it!
It's on the very left hand corner of the screen, right at the top, next to the grill. You need a really bright light to see it, because of the dark glass.
I'm not much of a camera person, so the fact the Desire Z doesn't have a FFC doesn't bother me, so I didn't think much of it.
Then I got my phone gel case cover and I noticed a small oval hole had been cut precisely where that 'lens' was. As you can imagine, my curiosity was aroused!
So I went to the user manual, hoping to find some mention of this...object, but there was nothing.
Then I did some Google-ing and I found this article by some guy about it, and he said he contacted HTC and they said it was just a light sensor. But as he pointed out, there seems to be two objects!
Then again, he was fairly paranoid because he said the iPhone was 'the most dangerous phone out there' because the battery couldn't be removed so secret services could spy on you at night (although WHY they'd be interested in your nocturnal activities I do not know)...
But either way, I find it really interesting! For one thing, it could JUST be a light sensor, but why not mention it in the user manual?
Just a light sensor.

But why is there a tiny square thingy and a larger circular one beneath it?
Wouldn't it be really cool if the Desire Z had a FFC though?

Light sensor and proximity sensor, if I'm not mistaken.

2 sensors, no camera
Don't mean to be rude, but I'm I really reading this right now?
Thanks! A bit gutted it wasn't a secret camera but ah well...

I think he means the phone has been out for 9 months now, if there was some secret ff camera it would have been mentioned or found by now.

Its just a light Sensor. No hidden Camera
Would have no Sense if they would hide a front camera, or not?
Regards
its true theres secret cameras, special button combos to control tvs, and btw just press/hold 2 on dialpad to get obama on line 1....j k...thats ur chuckle for the day folks
pimped out g2
Yes .you have to gain root first, in order to activate the hidden camera. Then you have to contact MI6 and get your activation code.you may also be able to do it through CIA but you will need to flash a custom recovery to do so.

holy crap! there is a hidden camera in there!
this guy has a tutorial on how to access it
Actually all of these guys are just pulling your leg.. There is in fact a camera there. It's an easter egg put in by the developers. You need to enter a cheat code the first time you turned on your phone.
The code is: left, left, right, left, up, down, left, right, square, triangle, x, start+select.
Really?
I was under the impression (and it's a little known fact) if you typed in 112358, the a red light glows from the hidden camera and the optical trackpad starts shooting high energy laser beams that make the guns in Mars Attacks look like kid stuff.
Innovative? Yes!
I'll keep you posted on more of the amazing feats of the Desire Z/Vision/G2/howmanynamesdoesonephoneneed
Fun stuff

Yea, no camera. The reason there are two items is because it needs both sensors to determine distance. Like how we need both our eyes to have accurate depth perception.
It turns the screen off when you bring the phone to your face during a call. Also doubles as a light sensor for auto-backlight and what not.

haha, I remember when it first came out and everyone was discussing this same thing.
I thought the code was Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Start, Select
I think it's Up, Up, Down, down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Select, Start

Epic Rant

This rant is not about the current Epic phone. I love this phone, so I don't really have much to complain about, other than my charger port going out after over a year of use. This isn't a bad number though, considering I had to replace my HTC Touch Pro 5 times within a year due to screen issues...
No, this is not a rant about the current Epic, but a rant about the Epic Touch. Maybe not so much the Epic Touch alone, but the manufacturers and their inability to keep things consistent. They come out with new phones with tons of upgrades in hardware. That's great! What I don't like is when they take features away. This is why I'm doubting I will ever jump to the Touch...
It's not the lack of slide-out keyboard I hate. I waited for the Epic to come out solely for this feature, but find with Swype, I never use it. No, it's the one tiny overlooked feature that I use quite often on my Epic. The dedicated shutter button for the camera!!! Seriously! Why take that away??? You make all of these changes to the hardware that make it a far superior phone, but you take away something as simple as this that has a huge benefit push? ARGH!
Has anyone else found themselves loving new phones that come out, but deciding not to because of that ONE little feature that you refuse to lose?
Ok, end of rant.
yes ... i hate that my nexus doesnt have a camera button or a led light... even though bln makes up for the led i have to press the screen to take a picture and sometimes its easy to move when touching the screen
No camera button is a *****

Seriously! I would upgrade to the Epic Touch, I really would, if it had that freakin camera button. Everything else about that phone is sexy! They are losing business from at least me just because of something that should be so basic in all phones at this point. Pressing the screen is a pain in the butt, especially when turning it around to take a picture of yourself with the back camera for quality and flash purposes. I've become a pro at this with my Epic.

How do you guys manually focus with the on screen controls? I always use my two stage camera button
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I've always found that it works pretty well on it's own when I need to take a self group photo. I guess I could always get someone else to take the pictures, but it's just more of an annoyance than anything else. lol
The phone focuses so fast and the shutter speed is speedy as well. I haven't taken a blurry pic yet. I use Swipe Pad from the Market and set the camera as one of the 12 apps so its actually really fast and easy to open the camera.

Camera button is nice, but I can do without it if it makes for a slimmer sexier device.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
you just tap the screen to focus and hit the button to take the picture. I hate the hard button personally because when i press it the camera always moves. But the on screen one can take a very light tap and nothing moves. so I actually never use the hardware button.
That's fine. On the Epic, you have that option. My point is, they took away a very basic and simple feature from a phone needlessly. Now you no longer have the option.

Same here. I only ever use the camera button to turn the camera on. Touch screen focus you can actually pick the focal point of the picture other than dead center which I like.

[Q] Camera angled badly - just me?

I haven't had any great use of the camera yet so I haven't noticed this until now. If I hold my Nexus 7 (portrait) with the camera at a level with my nose I just barely get my face in the display with a lot of space above my head. I have to tilt the whole thing towards me and it would make video chat uncomfortable.
I've asked a friend who owns one and they have the same issue so I want to know how many others, if any, have this issue. I haven't heard anything about it here or elsewhere but I have to admit to only doing a brief search before posting this thread.
If I hold mine perfectly vertical with the camera at nose level about 8 inches away my face is perfectly centered in the screen.

I've sent off a support question to ask if it's a known issue. I don't think it would be enough of an issue for me to return it but I'd like to know that I can if choose to.
OK last update for anyone interested. I got a reply and it is a known issue so you can get a warranty replacement if you want one.

[Q] Galaxy Note 3 'Vibrates' When Tapped?

Hey fellow enthusiasts, I just realised that whenever I tapped on my phone, for example when I tap on the back of my phone, it kinda vibrates. anyone facing this issue?

There is a haptic feed back when you press softkeys. you might be pushing them.

When you mean vibration. Do you mean in your pocket? If you get the vibration/boom feeling then that the vibrating motor. Hope this helps.

hey guys, its not the haptic feedback. its like it somehow 'vibrates' when I tapped it on the back of my phone.
It hasn't occured to you that it might be something to do with this at all?

it doesn't really vibrate but it kinda feels like its moving when tapped with your nails.
Yeah I have the same feeling, like its on "haptic Vibro" but thats not enabled, yet still feels like a slighter Vibrate when hitting some keys?
I think I know what he means...
Its not a feedback from the vibrator at all -- I sometimes tap on my Note when I'm listening to music, like I'm playing a drum solo with my fingers
There is a faint vibration when I do that.
I always assumed it was just one of the sensors vibrating in response to my enthusiastic taps. Who knows, the shock sensor, the vibrator itself?
Anyway, I don't think its anything wrong or broken.
I don't think there is a problem... it happened with my note 2, but always worked well and flawlessly
I get it occasionally and gave up with it.

Hi!
A lady friend of mine has this problem on a GSIII.
She broke her screen and since i had a GSIII with dead mainboard i moved her mainboard to the other phone. Main camera & all.
The phone now works perfectly but has accuired the "vibrate when tapping" issue.
Personally i´d say that the vibrating camera module is a solid bet. Production tolerances might be a little on the loose side in the new camera/screenframe combo and there is a short unsupported flex cable from main board to camera module.
If i understand this particular issue correctly you dropped your phone a while back. This just might have knocked the camera module a bit around so it now sits a smidgeon more loosely in the camera bay.
If it really bothers you, a solution could be to disassemble your phone and try thightening the tolerances in the camera mount by adding small pieces of e.g. sticky tape on sides or bottom. If nothing else you´d be able to confirm or discard the camera module as the "culprit".
Personally though i wouldn´t worry about it, as long as everything hums along nicely with this particular handset.

hello! thanks for your long reply, this happened before I dropped my device, so I reckon it isn't because of the drop! it works flawlessly, but do you think I should take it over to Samsung? or is it not an issue?

About the drop - oh yeah, you stated that earlier, my bad.
I´d leave it alone.
If the phone is still under warranty you could try taking it to a service center but then you´ll have to demonstrate there is an issue.
As everything works as it should that might be easier said than done.
