Addressing the G-Sensor calibration issues - G Tablet Android Development

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7067687&postcount=53
That appears to address a similar issue - perhaps it would work? My tablet gets here tomorrow, so I'll give it a try. Until then, if someone else has looked into the problem at all, maybe we could get a thread going on how it can be fixed. Has anyone made any headway?

No report on this yet? I'm very interested as this issue affects the pic gallery.
BTW, TNT Lite v2 FTW!

I checked it out but the file he is referring to isn't there, used rootexplorer
Also the sensor app shows absolute 0 way off, it does seem as if this can be fixed, or at least changed

This depends on which accelerometer the system is using. gTab may not have this accelerometer.

in regards to orientation issues:
It's actually right. I found this the other night and just haven't had a chance to post it yet: nvidia developer pdf.
It seems that the orientation being 90 degrees off is correct (link, page 6). Somehow we need to fix the transforms to get us from the correct orientation to the phone-standard orientation that apps seem to be written on (have a look at page 7 of the pdf).

TNT lite 2.0 seems to have fixed the issue
I've loaded TNT lite 2.0 and then started up the game Raging Thunder and it works perfectly.
Warning on TNT lite 2.0. Make sure you have clockwork mod loaded first. My machine went into a boot loop and I had to use clockwork mod to get out of it.

Raging Thunder 2 has never been an issue for me, and is one of the smoothest running games...it's obvious that they have done something different. Maybe it can be used to fix other games.

I have Raging Thunder 2 and works great on my Incredible, but on Gtablet, shows only half screen at the title and never gives options to load up. How did you get it to work?
Reports are it is an Nvidia issue and the current patch does not cover the problem. Did not for me, so I can agree with that assertion.
I am using TnT Lite 2.0.

Anyone else notice that is they hold the tablet upside down as using it while lying on your back, the touch screen has issues, very laggy, have to hold down my presses many times for it to register, like accessing apps I have to try three+ times to get it to work. When I rotate the device back to on my lap everything works great. Wondering if this has something to do with the G-Sensor hardware/software.

That 's what we concluded in our group too.
The G-sensor is not a defect, it 's the game design that use a different orientation.
If you look at Tom Clancy 's flight game and Raging thunder 2, the G sensor works properly.
What we worry the most is that if we do switch the machine's G-sensor output, we will have problem with newer game which designed with Tablet orientation in mind.
One of the developer in our group are actually mod the game itself so that the x-y axis are switched in the game app. This seems to be working quite well. He did about 10~15 games already.

You all are all correct to some point. The logical fix would be a sensor orientation option built into settings, since changing the orientation will fix some games and probably result in others being broken. Raging Thunder 2 is an example.

Where can we get said games?

I bought Raging Thunder 2. Nice game on G
You are probably referring to the modded games... Yeah- where do we get them?

I also have the sensor issue in my gallery. It makes it quite difficult to make selections. If it is just those games having this issue, how can I fix it in gallery?

Would you please PM me those also,,, Thanks

i'm curious about said games as well.

G-sensor\accelerometer\tilt sensor calibration - problem!

Just got me Nexus one today, love it, however, has anyone else noticed a problem with the calibration of the G-sensor\accelerometer\tilt sensor?
I ran the Layar application and noticed the horizon was not straight. I then downloaded some bubble level apps and they have the same problem. You can calibrate the sensor in the bubble app and then it works fine, however this calibration is only for that specific app.
I tried the speedforce 3d game and the ship drives to the left when the phone is level.
this is very annoying!!
Does anyone know how to calibrate the sensor so it is calibrated for all apps? Like you can do on windows mobile phones. I cant find the setting anywhere? arrgh
I've the same problem too.
Same here !!
Anyone one looking into a fix?

Same with me.. the touch screen position will offset. I have to lock my phone bring it up again to correct the issue.
You can vote for this issue (G-sensor out of calibration and offers no calibration utility) over in the Android issues list here:

Just log in with your Google ID and click on the star to vote for it. With only 5 star votes currently it is near the bottom of the list of bugs to be addressed...

Google Maps 5 for Android out now!!

Guys, the new google maps 5 is out. Seems like it has some really nice new features. Head onto marketplace and update.
The write up is on pocketnow.
http://pocketnow.com/android/google-maps-5-for-android-with-3d-vectoring-now-available
Can someone post .apk, please? Google updates not available in Market in some countries.
http : //is.gd/iRddp
Thanks so much for the .apk! Cheers man!
The 3D feature doesn't work for me on JDMS 1.6.2 build unfortunately.
Anyone get that to work? on which android build?
edit: Nevermind it works, my area was just too flat?!!
i couldn't make it work on my phone (see config below) either
Anyone get the map rotation to work using gestures? Only way I can make the map rotate is by using compass mode, but that requires me to be at the location I want to rotate the map around.
couldnt find the .apk file anywhere? neither in the market is the app??? where can i grab that??

Placing two fingers on the screen and moving them laterally in opposing directions worked for me.

which android build do you have? as others said i can't do that :\
thanx man you are best
Mine works great on the EVO Black & Blue Remix ROM, but London 3D has not been enabled yet
You make it 3D by putting two fingers on the screen and dragging down and I can make it rotate by putting my index finger and my thumb on the screen and rotating them in a circle. As dumb as this sounds, you really do have to practice a bit to get it to work. I'm using
EVO Carbon Remix V0.5 by motoman234
Thanks for the link.
1. Gestures work fine
2. I don't see any 3d landscape though
Are there any settings where you can activate 3D buildings and compass mode?
Update: Map stays stationary and only the blue arrow rotates.
Update 2: 3D buildings work only in some major cities around the world (i have found Chicago, Berlin untill now) and only if your zoom is at 100m/200ft and you must have all layers (terrain - sattelite) turn off.
Samsung Galaxy S - Froyo
I cant spin motion the map! I tried every means possible
I think the map rotate is limited to roms that are designed for phones that support distinct multitouch. I am using the hd2one which is built for the nexus one which doesn't have distinct multitouch... does anyone know how we can trick Google maps into performing the rotate function without flashing a different rom?

You can use this file, copy it to your hd2one/root/system/etc/permissions then reboot. I copied it from the desire_hd2 build and it works.

Direct Link for those looking for the file buzz killington was talking about. Google Maps 5.0 now works as advertised! Hope this helps some others out there wanting to get the rotate gesture working.

accelerometer / gensor [SOLVED]

cant get this to work properly in games, tried a few ROM versions and still no joy. Before anyone jumps all over me I have tried the performance fix, did feck all.
It could be the ROM combination I am using. Can anyone list their ROM combinations who actually have it working in say, raging thunder.
Ie, ROM modaco v8 - firmware 1.8
it's not a ROM problem.
it's a hardware problem.
the accelerometer used on the vega is really really crap and it's only good to rotate apps orientation.
I only play on the vega games that doesn't need the sensor such as angry birds, gun bros, air attack.
there is a fix for this, now works fine for me, see modacco formum, you will need to sign up to search (sorry cannot refind the thread) - just a zip to install using CMR

Is this the fix you refer to? It says its for r6, which firmware are you running? Just wanted to check before i tried it.
Thanks
O_G
I checked the video and really doesn't seem to really fix that much.
Anyway, it's for modaco-r6, I'm running on stock.v1.09+add.on.

My tablet is running 1.09 + fuji ROM, works a treat for me.
[FIX] Accelerometer
I have also found the accelerometer issues to be annoying. i have just started running the CM7 HC tweaks from Mad Murdoch, (Nightly ROm on 5/5/11) and so far the accelerometer is working perfectly.
I will update later with a list of accelerometer games known to work once I get home and download some more.
Edit:
Jet car stunts
raging thunder
speedex 3d
All working fine with cm7 ttrc2, but ROM is generally too laggy to use daily.
Come oncm7, get stable so we can start trying the new tegra optimised games!
http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-zone.html
This was very much a software issue, not hardware.
At the moment if you want to experience a proper working accelerometer on the vega flash mad_murdoch's cm7.
We are working on porting it to stock roms.

How to backup non-market apps? My analog seems to not work..

Well, it seems after a month of having the phone, I've tried to use the analog controls, downloaded Asphalt 6, and they don't work at all.. ugh, gotta make an exchange now.
Anyway, my emulators don't seem to be in the market anymore.
Any way to back them up so I can install them again on my new phone?
Non-rooted with 2.3.2.
Edit: Is there any way the analogs can be enabled/disabled/tested on the phone? They seem to not work at all..
Go to the dialer and press *#*#7378423#*#*
click service tests, there might be an analog test there.
you can backup using titanium backup, needs root though.
Hmm I just launched FIFA and the analogs work fine in that game.. I guess it's just hit or miss. Weird..

The analog controls don't work on the 'keyboard' test, but all other keys and the digital pad do. Analog does work in FIFA though. Can anyone else confirm analog working/not working in the service menu?
You could try this app .. "Touchpad Test"

Analogue doesn't work for me on Asphalt 6 either.
For me it does work on Asphalt 6

Ive just tested, the analogue no longer works for me on ashpalt 6 although im sure it did before the 2.3.3 update, but analogue works fine on nova 2 and modern combat 2.

Asphalt 6 doesn't use the analog sticks...
Asphalt analogue didn't work for me on 2.3.2 and 2.3.3.
Is it possible that Gameloft updated the game and forgot to put in analogue support?
I first downloaded the game just over 1 week ago.

Under controller settings it lists the analogue as steering for the left and camera for the right.
Thanks all for checking if it works in your games, really appreciated
I don't think that the Adnroid update has something to do with that issue, altough I'm still on 2.3.2
When did you downloaded Asphalt 6? Maybe the very firt version messed something up ?
Regards,
iCEQB
Hey just checked my analog don't work for asphalt either! Work great for mc2 though. I prefer the d pads for asphalt anyway.

It seems that Asphalt and the emulators are in need of an update...

Keyboard Cover Issues

So I just discovered that if you have the keyboard cover attached to your SGTS5e and you load Asphalt 8. Then remove it when the game has completely loaded, the game will stay in keyboard function configuration and not revert to touchscreen or accelerometer input when you disconnect the keyboard. I think this is an issue with Asphalt 8 and not the tablet or the keyboard cover itself.

Yes. I have reported this to the game developer. But not Samsung as I believe this is not an issue they can resolve as they did not develop the game
