[Q] ATT and TMO - Droid Pro General

android central said they couldn't make it work i figured if anyone could it would be you guys.....any thoughts

Apparently, the problem is with the radio firmware. The radio will not connect to any USA GSM networks (AT&T & T-Mobile), other country's GSM networks should be fine.
The folks over at the Droid 2 forum are working on a fix, so I would check there for updates. So far there is no fix, but when one comes out... the same basic fix should apply to both the Droid-2 Global and the Droid Pro (they are very similar).
In short: no luck yet, maybe soon.

Bell Canada HSPA Network: Unlocked AT&T phones appear as roaming all the time

Everyone,
A few of us have been having a conversation over in the Raphael forum about an issue with the new Bell Canada UTMS/HSPA network. Due to Bell not carrying any HTC /HSPA capable phones, many of us have elected to purchase AT&T phones like the Topaz/Pure or Rhodium/Tilt 2 and get them unlocked. We have all been able to setup network connections etc, but the phones register as "roaming" all the time. I'm assuming that this is because Bell has some master list of IMEI codes for their own phones, and that any time a "foreign" phone registers on the network Bell sends it a "roaming" status. Can anyone confirm how this functionality works? We are all using Bell sim cards, and are not being billed for any roaming fees, so we're really not sure why this is happening. This also seems to happen with unlocked Android phones from Rogers when they run on the Bell network, but not with the Nexus One for some reason. Any help would be appreciated.

Quite a few people (including myself) on various boards have acknowledged having this problem as well. I got the SIM unlock code from Verizon but when I do a GSM network scan, nothing is detected. I know it has been escalated above level 2 support at Motorola and hopefully they will address it shortly. Here's another thread about it over on droidforums: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-global/96596-droid-2-global-unlock-foreign-sim.html
Yes, I have unlocked the phone from the code verizon gave me.
I hope its a fixable problem. But I noticed when I use an active tmob sim the phone doesnt even say tmobile. But when I use an at&t sim it atleasts says at&t.
I'm very interested (as I'm sure many others are) in a resolution to this. OP did you call VZW global support and let them know you're having this problem? Hopefully the more they hear about it, the faster they'll have a fix

They where no help at all they said it was for foreign sim cards only and that at&t and tmobile where not supported. But they did say verizon was better than both of them combined.
If you feel like experimenting try this:
Go to dialpad, and enter *#*#4636#*#*
Click on Phone Information, and then scroll down to bottom. Set preferred network type from "CDMA auto(PRL)" to "WCDMA preferred" and see if that kicks it on ATT.
I'm 99.9% sure after looking through the user guide that VZW has restricted use of the 850/1900 MHz GSM/UMTS bands, even though the device has the hardware to support them. Most foreign networks use 900/1800 GSM and 2100 UMTS but AT&T/T-Mobile use 850/1900, which is why no one has had any success with them yet.
Hopefully someone can figure out a workaround.
EDIT: Just a US GSM restriction...looks like 850/1900 work abroad: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...d2-global-south-america-first-impression.html

These where the results I got, so clearly it is getting seeing the network. Just not connecting.
Just got off the phone with Motorola and they said the droid 2 global was only for verizon sim cards and when I told them about the unlock code the guy didn't know what they where for. So another dead end. Another theory I have is that the stock verizon rom is blocking at&t so maybe if someone can flash another rom we can see if this is the problem.
Further proof the 850/1900 bands are locked: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57058/p/30,6720,7706
"GSM-based global services work only with a SIM card supplied by Verizon Wireless® or by another GSM 900 or GSM 1800 service provider. When you set your phone to use a GSM 900 or GSM 1800 network you may be prompted to enter a subsidy code. To get this code, contact Verizon Wireless."
EDIT: Looks like they're just locked in the US, not abroad: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...d2-global-south-america-first-impression.html

If this is true why would they say it has the 850 and 1900 bands? I know its not a hardware problem, so if its a software problem there is a chance we can have a workaround. Or the locked bands might be because of the verizon rom.
I was able to put a new rom on my Droid 2 Global and although the rom was working since it was for a droid 2 the radio was not working properly. I was not able to force turn it on. I still have several more things I will try tonight.

This has been done before on Windows Mobile phones (CDMA HTC Touch Pro 2) and requires a radio reflash since the bands are locked in the radio firmware. I am hoping they will develop a solution for Android phones. http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
Being that this the 1st CDMA/GSM (Tie if you count Droid Pro) Android device I would wait and see.

Good info, thanks
As from what I learned from previous devices the Droid 2 Global Verizon has a security locked radio. I have seen people unlock the radios from windows mobile phones, it is as easy as installing a .zip file that will unlock the security. I believe it is the same way with the Droid 2 Global. I will try to get this working but I don’t have much knowledge in the development field. But I do know you will have to be rooted. I have also spoke with a friend at Verizon, which claims that they did indeed lock the radios and there is a workaround. He said he was not familiar with this workaround but said it was close to the problem with the windows mobile security locked devices. I am calling this the official reason the phone wont work with US networks. This makes sense, and now that we found the problem it shouldn’t be long before we find a way around it.
Thanks for the info swangotp...that definitely sounds promising. Keep us posted!
subscribing to this thread... I know this is possible.

HTC HD2 won't work with TELUS, Canada

Hi Guys,
I have an unlocked TMo HTS HD2. I have used it in Asia and UK without a problem. But when I came back to Canada, I got problems. I am using TELUS here and Telus doesn't seems to support HTC HD2. I checked this site and used their online tool to check the device compatibility. It shows the HTC HD2 is not compatible with TELUS.
I have tried to find information online about what is the problem and possible solutions. But, I have not came across anything that tells what is the issue. Probably there is something to do with HSPA (telus doesnt support HSPA or so).
So, I thought this will be the best place to know what can be the problem and most importantly possible solutions. I really like HD2 and would really want to use it in Canada.
Thanks.
What about it doesn't work? ALL GSM functions, IE calling, SMS, MMS...or is it just data?
Everything. It won't even catch the signal. I can see the signal bars trying to scan the network but then it stops with an exclamation mark.

i think Telus has the Bands that are present in the Telstra HD2, thats why your not able to use it, were you able to use it before tho?
No. I have never used my HD2 with Telus before. Is there anything like a firmware update or a software based solution to this problem?

I think you need the Telstra HD2, Tmobile ownt function your phone as it doesnt have the required bands by Telus, try a Rodger or a Fido Sim on your phone and see if you get a connection
My guess is that you've got your HD2 setup to ONLY connect to HSPA - and since they don't support that (edge only) it won't connect. Try changing the setting & see if that works...

Can I use my Glacier with Telus / Bell / Virgin Mobile Canada?

Hiya...
I have an unlocked Mytouch 4g (HTC Glacier). When I put my Virgin Mobile Canada (same network as Telus and Bell) SIM card in, none of the above three networks are available -- only AT&T, T-Mobile and some mystery network show up. I've tried various ROMs, including the latest MIUI, CM7 and CM9. I thought the Bell bands were supported. Do I need to flash a different radio, perhaps? Any leads greatly appreciated.
SsshirazzZ
ps. the SIM card is good. I can see the Bell network with the same card on an unlocked Samsung Skyrocket.
The bands don't seem to be the issue. GSM bands are 100% supported, and one of the 3G bands is supported (2100).
Thanks for your reply.
I just can't seem to get it it see the Telus/Bell/Virgin Mobile Canada network. It can see Rogers, AT&T and T-Mobile (I'm near the US border), but not what I want. I've tried flashing the Panache radio, as well as different ROMS (including T-Mobile's stock Gingerbread as well as stock Froyo). I've tried several different SIM cards just to see if any of them would show the network. I remembered that I had my phone only foreign-SIM card unlocked by T-Mobile so I purchased a proper unlock code cellunlocker.net, but I can't get the phone to prompt me for an unlock code since it wasn't on stock. That's why I tried flashing to stock, hoping that I could get a SIM card unlock prompt, to no avail. Perhaps that has something to do with the T-mobile foreign card unlock already having been done, irrespective of ROM? Anyhow, I somewhat suspect this might be the issue, as it's the only thing I can think of besides unsupported bands, which you say is not the issue, or radio, which I've already tried. (Panache runs on the Telus/Bell network too).
I'm at a loss. I've put in about 8 hours to salvage my $150 phone. Virgin Mobile is the only real well-priced option here on Vancouver Island offering 3G or better. Funny thing is, if I were to buy a new phone, I'd probably want the same one (it's for my wife), but I don't know if the issue is specific to my phone or if I'd get the same problem.
Any further thoughts or input would be *greatly* appreciated... this has been one of those truly hair-pulling experiences.
Shiraz
Turns out they *are* incompatible bands. I didn't read the specs properly enough.

AT&T, Roaming and free mobile

Hi everyone,
I really like my P9 lite but I'm somewhat stuck right now: I just arrived to the US with a french SIM card and can't my phone to connect to the network. Here's a breakdown of what I know:
I've had roaming abroad working with this phone, same OS (same version!) in at least two countries before (UK and Iceland)
My SIM card is from "free mobile" who's partner is AT&T in the US (to be confirmed?)
If I scan for networks I can only see T-Mobile 2G (irrelevant of setting 2G, 3G or LTE)
My current OS is LineageOS 14.1 for P9 Lite by HassanMirza01, version LineageOS-14.1-20171228
As far as frequencies goes, it should be compatible (some people here will know much more than I do)
Some people had this issue before and discussed it here : http://freemobile.toosurtoo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=5963&sid=35385e6fe5093d5e17832b61e2fa3131 however it's in french and inconclusive. People seem to mainly have this issue with Huawei phones but not only. "Free mobile" appears to not be super responsive about this.
Any idea on what I can do to diagnosis and move forward? I'm sure it's something silly since people here have this phone and my own has had roaming working before...!
Many thanks to everyone!
Quick update: it looks like it's all about compatible bands/frequencies, however frequencycheck.com tells me it should be compatible at least to some extent.
Is it possible that a file (oeminfo? something else?) restricts the compatible bands while the hardware supports them?
Sorry if this is very naïve!
