Galaxy S GT-I9000 Camera Failed - Green screen - Galaxy S I9000 General

I have used my camera here and there on previous firmwares but since using XXJPO i havn't checked but earlier today i went to take a picture and all was well until it focused and then went take picture. It allowed me to aim it and all that but when i hit shoot it made the noise then said camera failed. I then enable review and noticed it was just getting a green capture. What could be the issue? i went into the camera firmware menu and hit phone to cam fw write and shut it down, removed battery and turned back on. Still no go...
What do i do?

Flash back to your original rom, and call tech support for a replacement

Umm actually glad to be proving you wrong here, all working fine now and i unlocked it at the same time since i needed to downgrade to test the camera was working fine so here goes what i did for anyone else who gets this issue.
Flash XXJM1 with odin and 512 pit
Be sure to clear all data on reboot into recovery or it will just get stuck in a loop
Then in dialer type *#*#34971539#*#* Select "Phone to CAM FW Write" and "YES"
Reboot phone and the camera should now work
Using Kies flash the latest update which is currently XXJPO in the UK

I had the same problem get voodoo lag fix if you have any other lag fix un do them before running the voodoo it works rember after you do the lag fix it takes a long time to boot

check that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9314303&postcount=3

My camera worked until I did the OCLF. After that -just like "Hydrouk" - preview ok, but after taking photo (only with main camera and photo -mode, front facing camera and main camera in video mode work just fine) I get the "Camera failed" notification and Camera program exits.
"Camera Firmware" size is 0.00kb
Disabling OCLF did not help, haven't done a firmware update or tried voodoo yet.

Any more info on this?
I'm having the same issue with my Nexus S (GT-i9020) and can't find a solution

hydrouk exactly which ROM did you flash back to? I've just tried XWJM2 from samfirmware.com
That's:
PDA: CODE_I9000XWJM2
Phone: MODEM_I9000XXJM1
CSC: CSC_I9000OXXJM1
And still having exactly the same problem after re-flashing the camera firmware using the code below - I get a green screen or "Camera Failed" message every time I try and start the camera application.
Thanks,
Ben.

Same issue on JPM, if wifi is on, all pictures are correctly taken. If wifi is off mostly the first picture succeeds but second cause the camera failure.
Does somebody know of another type of fix, patched Camera.apk or something? Wireless location is extremely handy for google maps etc.
I have been having this problem since JPF and I was hoping JPM fixed it..but no. And these were the updates the KIES gave me. Now I can't even connect to KIES anymore. Samsung has really messed up this whole thing... man...
JPM fixed this problem for me (flashed with Odin), you guys should try a factory reset.
Factory Reset did not fix that problem for me...
Going to reflash JPM with factory reset and wipe cache (both from recovery), will report back....
Ok, somehow the following steps at first seemed to fix my problem with the camera:
1. Before reflashing JPM firmware I did the following from recovery:
1a. wipe data/factory reset (scroll down to Yes -- delete all user)
1b. wipe cache
1c. reboot system now
2. Turn off phone
3. Turn on phone in download mode (volume down+home+power)
4. Flash JPM with odin
5. After flash and reboot again back into recovery (thru adb reboot recovery or volume up+volume down+home+power)
6. Again wiped data/factory reset & wipe cache & reboot (exact same steps as 1a-1c)
After these steps no camera failures...but after manually setting the apn of my provider ..... camera failures even with 3g turned off
Deleted the apn and no camera failures anymore :S So I think my choice is: mobile 3g internet OR fully functioning camera.
3g settings: mmc 204, mnc 16, verification pap, apn type internet (T-Mobile NL)
I too cant connect with Kies with JPM rom and the same camera problem...
-Techass.wordpress.com
I don't know exactly what I did but after a few hours of playing around with settings and APN widgets the camera is now working correctly, no camera failures to date.
First I downloaded an apns-conf.xml from cyanogen firmware where the APN settings for my provider were available (since I had to manually enter them and that was the moment the camer failure started to occur). I copied the apns-conf.xml from my phone (/etc) to my computer and added the lines for my provider and pushed them back to my phone. Onfortunately this did not fix the problem.
Then I tried numerous APN widgets to disable the apn (with prefix) or switch to an empty APN, both also unsuccesfull. Uninstalled these apps and widgets again.
After all these tries, I dove into the application settings and for some reason I thought it was a good idea to clean the data of the, in dutch "Netwerklocatie" app (in english i guess "Networklocation"). After that no more problems.....could be some corrupted data in this application...
Hopefully this works for all of you!
Trying this fix now... (cleaning the networklocation data).
Nope..did not help at all. Still the same old camera failure. This sucks.
my camera fails too but this is not related to wifi...
usually an app using camera causes this..!!!
i hav camscanner and taking one or two pics from camscanner fails the camera...
i usually wait for sometime and then camera works as normal....
hope the problem doesn't gets worse for me.!!!!!
Damn, problem keeps reocurring:-( cleaning networklocation application data only helps for a small amount of time...
Only option now is disabeling networklocation service or using different camera application, does anybody recommend a good basic camera app?(stocklike and fast startup)

Im running the stock JPM I got via KIES. I've done several wipes/hard resets lately cuz Im currenly having problems with installing a theme. Or at the moment, installing the Contacts.apk correctly... Yet the camera fails. I just tried.
Maybe it is the ROM, I don't know. Am not yet brave enough to flash... Want to fix this theme issue first.
I'm on JPM too, flashed twice thru Odin and wiped everything. It has something to do with APN/Networklocation but I don't know how to fix it permanently
@devilgod18: thanks for the suggestion, now using Sleek Camera!
Download SGSTools and install Hacked Camera.apk.
After I install this, my camera working good.

Blame Geo-Tagging
The reason why our phone can't (normally) take phtos is because of geo-tagging.
Note that when you use the camera.apk, there's a live notification at the top, a sattelite getting sinal. The camera is trying to associate your photo (it happens with any app that uses camera) with the place where you took it.
When I flashed the Apollo 1.0 rom (deodexed custom rom), this problem was solved. The camera.apk don't even show this notification, and I was able to take as many photos as I wanted to with no crashes. I tryed to use his apk in others roms... but no success. I don't know if are some dependencies, libraries... But I know that it worked!
What I do is to turn off networks (fligth mode), and take photos. Works perfect!

Try rooting and flashing Prime 1.4 - if fixed, it's just a stock ROM faulty, if not, it's probably hardware issue and I recommend RMA.

I find a problem flashing Prime 1.4 with NVflash because when show the copying of system.img it blocks random during this step, so i must brute stop the process and i've to install Nvflash stock 3.1 (all return ok). I think that system.img is corrupted but i don't know where find the right file.
However i think that there isn't an hardware issue because if i start camera it show me to myself for some istants, after that, stuck and show green lines (if i snap a photo before the green lines appears, my face is saved correctly).
When i turn on device for the first time i was on 3.0.1 and the system won't recognize the 3.1 update. I've installed it manually by ASUS site..maybe this is indicative. In any sense i think that is only a firmware fault, and not an HW problem (looking at this symptoms). what do you think?
Edit:
Now i've installed face costume, the camera stuck (green) and tablet restart itself. SW issue?
Up.up.up.up
I am running stock 3.1 unrooted and mine is fine. Are you sure it wasn't doing it before the update? Might be a faulty front camera.

[Q] Problem with rear camera (dark display, camera failed) on I9505 with android 4.3

Hi everyone.
I have encountered a problem on my phone's rear camera with the latest ROM upgrade, which upgraded my android version fom 4.2.2 to 4.3:
I9505XXUEMJ7_I9505BTUEMJ8_BTU
The problem is that I get a dark display (black screen, see the attached screenshot) and the whole phone gets stucked and its performance is slowed down due to that. After about a minute or to of freezing phone I Finally get a warning - Camera Failed.
I tried to wipe twice (both cache partition and user data), prior to and after flashing, and also tried to reflash the same rom again. Didn't work out for me, or at least works once right after wiping and then fails again. Seems like a heavy bug in 4.3, unstables the camera due to the new firmware.
Has anyone had that same problem or reported on it or it's just me? What should I do now?
Thanks.
When you open the camera, did you get a camera firmware update?

Yes, that was in the first time that opened the built-in camera app after flashing the newest firmware. I proceeded with the update and then all that mess started. But since then I have reflashed and didn't get that message once more to confirm/approve.
Is there a way to downgrade the camera's firmware to the one used in 4.2.2? It really worked really well for me prior to that so called "upgrade"...
Another question: When (roughly) should I9505 models recieve the 4.3.1 update? Is it scheduled to be soon?
Having the same issue (also with other Camera apps like Barcode Scanner, Paper Camera & Optical Reader). If I wait I end up with a "camera fail" message.
UPDATE: Just upgraded to MK8 version using Kies - and the problem persists!
This month's (november) update implies that Samsung are yet to resolve this bug. Does someone know how should I report them about the problem? Is there a website or a social network page that they actually check up on a regular basis?
Thank you.

Camera Not Recording (log inside)

Greetings,
The camera on my Note 3 is not working for video recording (taking pics works fine). I have switched a lot of roms and kernels on it, but I noticed the camera app would not record and, instead, show me a "Warning: Recording Error" followed by a force close and, usually, a reboot.
I decided to switch back to stock Lollipop to see if this would revert it, but it didn't work.
The phone specs and other info:
SM-9005
Currently on official Lollipop from Brazil (N9005VJUGBOD5_N9005ZTOGBOD4_ZTO from sammobile)
Stock kernel
These are the things I did to try and fix this, not in order:
1- Changed kernels
2- Changed roms (always wiping everything but internals on recovery before doing so)
3- Cleaned cache
4- Cleaned camera cache
5- Tried google camera app instead of the official camera app (it did not FC, but while it said it was recording, it would never save a video file of it)
6- Did a factory reset on the stock rom
7- Updated modem and bootloader with the files on the Aryamod thread
8- Tried removing the SD card completely
9- Tried reseating the SD card
10- Tried changing to internal card in the camera app
11- Changing recording resolution options
Last custom rom I had was the Omega Rom. First Lollipop rom I installed was the official (non leaked) Poland rom, and I did not use a pit file back then (as, according to the thread this was featured it, that file was meant only for users coming from the leaked lollipop rom).
This is the log from the camera bugging out in the Omega Rom:
http://pastebin.com/TkCA2KbT
I took a second one for precaution:
http://pastebin.com/1exMLTk3
This is not a hardware problem as it worked on KK. The problem persists on the official rom I just installed. Also, the SD card has a lot of space available, as does the internal memory.
Also, not sure if this is relevant, but most kernels give me a bootloop, exception being the Omega kernel and the Darkqueen. I also *may* have flashed by accident a rom based on Cyanogen at some point, but my memory is very fuzzy on this. I think that this wouldn't matter as I wipe everything before putting a new rom in, anyway (and if I did that, the new and now correct rom I put after that wouldn't leave any traces of this accident).
I have no idea what else to do to fix this.
I have exactly the same problem. I have a ZTO Note 3 with the same problem as well, sometimes the whole android crashes after I try to record it.
The whole problem began after I installed the Omega Rom, I used CM12.1 for quite some time and the camera record correctly. I am not sure if you managed to wipe the whole thing by using the TWRP, but once I did, I found out that it was a MTO problem, which I searched about and it was nothing major.
Did you manage to fix the problem?
Maybe install latest bootloader?
Try changing the camera app video resolution back to 1080P - there's been a number of people had problems with UHD mode.
It's quite possible that BL and Modem flash will not work unless you turn the phone off and then go into DL mode for an Odin flash - rebooting into DL mode doesn't let them flash. So maybe once you went to a ROM that had the UHD issue, you haven't fully come back to stock?

Sorry for the time taken, I flashed the Omega Rom once again using TWRP, and then I flashed the bootloader and modem recommended for such rom using Odin, but the problem still continues. And I have tried change resolutions, storage and everything possible, the problem still continues.
Funny thing is, I thought it was the back camera problem, it could take photos but it freezes during video recording. Once I tried the front camera, the same problem happens as well, it does take pictures, but it does not record.
I am getting a little desperate now, I have a feeling that the omega rom made such problem but as of yet it did not fix said problem! What should I do?

Do you have a link to the kernel and has anyone else tried this? I'm also having the same problem with the video recording not working and I'm not sure what to do about it.

I'm having exact same problem
I'm also having this exact same problem with my N9005 Note 3. Its running Lollipop but i don't really much about roms as i bought it used from some shop. Everything works fine both cameras take pictures but video recording doesn't work at all. Also i downloaded a screen roader app and its videos are also not recorded. When i finish recording them and go to gallery it says File Corrupted. Please anyone got fix of this problem yet?
So I solved it by:
Using Odin 3.11.1
I have already tried Factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flashed the latest stock Lolipop or older lollipop with ODin and nothing solved the problem.
So I tried to flash the latest stock lolipop with Odin and marking checked (Auto Reboot , F. Reset Time , Phone EFS clear, Phone Bootloader update).
I suspect that the Phone EFS clear did the trick. It's function is related to the modem and radio of the phone. And clearly the modem has a problem here.
I hope this will help anybody out there having this issue.
This problem happened after trying to flash lollipop using FlashFire app to reserve the root that I had in my previos Android KK 4.4.2.
Phone: Galaxy Note3 N9005 Malaysian
Hi everybody,
@hayder78,
I tried to do the same to fix the issue: flash with the last firmware available for my region code (XEF - N9005XXUGBOK6) using Odin 3.11.1 and the same options (Auto Reboot , F. Reset Time , Phone EFS clear, Phone Bootloader update) but I still have the issue.
@Fenrir007
Did you manage to fix the issue using the same method?
I had the same issue with a 6.0.1 ROM (MagMa-NX UX8.5) on my Note 3 N9005. Any attempt to record video merely resulted in a "recording failed" message after about a second.
I thought I had installed a recent bootloader and modem using Odin 3.11.1, but although I did it twice I had used a "Reboot to Download" restart and for some reason that does not seem to have taken properly - although I have no idea why, all the display messages said it had worked.
So I have just done a full (remove battery and then three-finger power-up) boot into Download as advised in this thread, and then sent the same BL_N9005XXSGBQA1 and CP_N9005XXUGBOJ2 files to the phone via Odin, and now video recording works fine.
So when people say clean boot into Download, they do actually mean it. Thanks folks!
Oh, and I did NOT need to tick the "clear EFS" option, which seemed a rather risky thing to try so I was avoiding it as long as I could.

Flash the ROM again to fix your WiFi. While the ROM may help, I believe your camera problem is a hardware issue. You'll have to replace the camera module.

ok i just updated 5.0.1 . and how to flash rom via odin?
Flashing a custom ROM won't help fix your WiFi. You need to flash a stock ROM through Odin, and there are threads in the S4 forums which explain how to flash a ROM. Please use the search engine to find it.
Same Problem...
Just noticed this problem 3-4 days ago. I've done a factory reset and also tested a known working rear camera in my phone - I still get an updating firmware message or can't connect to camera message when I open the camera app. Also, the flashlight won't work and disappears from the pull-down menu in Lollipop. I'm unrooted on an I9505G (GPE S4) running 5.0. Not having any other issues with the phone and have tried re-seating the rear camera on the pins over a dozen times. Cleared cache /data from the camera app, uninstalled upadates, etc. I'm stuck. My best guess is either the board, or software related and I haven't figured it out.
With the OP, once firmware had been ruled out as a problem, the only thing remaining would be a motherboard issue. He had already replaced his camera module.
i just want my camera to work no matter wifi work or not. i m stock lollipop
so kindly suggest me something for camera. btw today i will try to flash ro
Take your S4 in for service. If you've updated the ROM and still do not have a working camera, you have a problem with the motherboard, not the camera module.
