Proper update procedure for Axura

Hi guys,
Well when I flashed my ROM I used the NOOB thread and installed this version:

Now I realize I should have updated to this version:

I have the update.zip and the new Axura zip on my root directory but when I reboot in recovery and click "re-install packages" it does something ...maybe re-roots?...and just goes to the normal Axura boot screen and starts up current installed version. I do have ROM manager and Titanium installed.
Obviously I'm missing something silly. Also, is there any real reason to update a month old ROM or am I ok leaving them on there for a long time?

Get into the green recovery screen. If you first load up recovery and it's blue then hit reinstall packages. You may have to do this twice for it to go to the green clockwork recovery.
Next navigate to install .zip from SD. Navigate to the new Axura file and select it. Navigate down to "yes" and wait for it to complete.

One pre-caution:
If you named the Axura ROM as update.zip and try to go into CWR it might throw you back to the normal recovery (blue text), if you hit re-install packages it will try to do it via update.zip (your Axura), and you will end-up with the square one.
Go to your phone, rename the Axura download from update.zip to something different, i.e. axura_rom_latest.zip, copy recovery-update.zip from /sdcard/clockworkmod directory to /sdcard as update.zip, and go back into recovery and re-install packages, it will bring you to CWR with green text.

I'm confused I have the new Axura ROM zip file on my phone but it's not named update.zip - the rooting zip is named that. The Axura ROM is named whatever the developer named it still.
1. Do I Need to change the name of the ROM then?
2, Should I remove the rooting "update.zip" I downloaded from the NOOB thread?
If so, should I just have the new ROM in there by itself?
Also my Root seems to be corrupted as Titanium cannot gain root rights anymore and Superuser Permissions won't run. This is surely my fault from my failed attempt and installing the new update.

I've re-named the clorkworkmod recovery zip to update.zip as you said, as well as renamed the new Axura ROM zip to "axura-update.zip" . I also moved the clockworkmod zip to the root directory on SD.
I haven't tried anything yet as I want to make sure this is what I'm suppose to do with a possibly broken "root" (superuser permissions aren't working for Titanium or ROM manager)
Also, strangely enough my computer wouldn't let me move filesthrough USB Mass storage mode that are already on the phone, but I could do it by using the phone itself to move the files.
Oh, and I deleted the NOOB thread rooting zip before moving the clockworkmod one and re-naming it the same.

Reboot into stock recovery, reinstall packages, cwr should be available then (green txt). Install zip from sd, choose axura zip and you should be fine.

On the 16g internal memory you should now have two files - Update.zip and Axura.zip right?
If so boot into recovery and hit reinstall packages until you get to the green recovery. This sometimes takes two times.
Then navigate to install zip from SD and find Axura and let it do it's thing.

Help! Might have messed my phone up

LOL i was about to say i have a fascinate, but it would be redundant because I am posting in a Fascinate forum.
Hi guys, first post, thought I would post first about something not help related, but my phone is messed up.
I rooted my phone with 1 click root from android central, then i flashed it using odin and backed up my rom ( i guess stock touchwiz) with CWM from rom manager. Then i installed this theme: AOSP REVOLUTION a port on androidforums the adress is /fascinate-all-things-root/251094-theme-port-aosp-revolution.html ( after androidforums obviously, i cant post links!) ) -_-
I installed it by downloading the zip, renaming it to update, and launched CWM recovery and ran apply sd update.zip. Then i rebooted my phone the verizon logo flashed for a long time then the screen went black, and when i pressed the power buton all that happened is that the 4 buttons would light up.
Can anybody help me, sorry if i pissed you off because of my uber-noobness, but i just got the phone a month ago and rooted it yesterday. I made sure i followed the direction so my phone does mess up, but something went wrong after installing that theme. Thanks a FREAKING GAGILLION if you can help!
PS Another noob move but how do I run the backup that i made? sorry for my noobness if it offends u.

If you have ClockworkMod recovery installed, you just need to boot into it and restore your backup. Shut down the phone. Hold both volume up and down and then press power. When you see the Samsung logo, release power but keep holding the volume buttons. It'll boot into standard recovery. Select apply update.zip and it'll boot you into Clockwork. Should be easy to figure out how to restore from there.
If this doesn't work, then you don't have clockwork installed, or installed correctly. There should be a recent post on installing a new red clockwork. Follow that and then follow the instructions above except for applying update.zip. The new red clockwork boots directly, without going through the stock blue recovery first.
Alternately, there are various all-in-one Odin packages floating around here that will return you pretty much back to stock.

The problem you have here is that you flashed a theme that is made specifically for a the asop Rom. So the thing to do is download another Rom, place on root of sd card, boot into recovery (hold both volume keys and power until samsung logo flashes twice), wipe your data and cache, flash rom and reboot. I'm assuming you have updated to dl09 so you want a dl09 rom. here is a suggestion http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894126, just download system rom part, ignore the odin stuff. hope this helps

This was also a mistake. On this device CWM depends on there being a cwm update.zip on the root of you sd card. To flash a rom/kernel/theme on this device you leave it alone and placed anywhere on the card. When booted in to cwm you use the "install zip from sdcard" option.

As mentioned above, you do not rename the file at all. You can call it "umpty-Squat-Rom-Of-The_gods.zip or whatever you want, you boot into the CWM and as pointed out above, you will choose install zip from card and you will navigate to that umpty-squat that you downloaded to the phone.
So pull your SD card out and download a ROM and place it in the SD Card in a folder you like, I personally just use the default location od SD CARD / CLOCKWORKMOD / DOWNLOAD and store all my ROMs and stuff in that folder.
Hope this helps. Do not get too excited, your not ubber borked.... even if you are in a total panic you can follow the Adrynalyne ODIN back to bone stock DI01 post and in not to long you will up and running.

[Q] Newbie Question Regarding the ICS Leak

Hey guys, I'm new to XDA and I have a few questions needed to be answered if you don't mind .
So an "official" ICS leak came out not too long ago, and tonight I tried installing it on my a500. By "it" I mean the stock leak for unrooted devices. Problem is, it's not working.
Long story short, I Googled like crazy looking for answers to these questions, and I found no specific answers anywhere from Iconia users, only by people with Droid phones.
I need to know the answers for
1) Can I install the stock version ICS from my internal SD card? If so, how?
2) How do I do this without rooting my device?
3) After renaming the download to "update.zip", as some have said, do I first extract the contents then place them in a folder called update.zip, or leave it as is and rename the large file?
In the end, I renamed the file to "Update.zip" without extraction, then reboot my device in recovery mode. The green Droid came on, then a warning sign, and nothing happened. How do I boot the ICS?
Sorry if this seems like a lot, I barely know any of the technical aspects of this stuff!

same thing happend to me. I found out that my pc named the zip update.zip.zip, i used file explore on my 500 and took of the extra .zip and flashed it. And it worked perfectly.

1) No. You need an external SD for your stock recovery to flash the update.zip
2) Copy update.zip to the ROOT of your external SD card, power off, then power on, while holding Volume DOWN key
3) You should not extract the archive.
About root - it's a nice thingy - you are able to install a custom recovery in order to BACKUP your current firmware. Then you can flash one of the 4 custom ICS ROMs that will keep your recovery safe and not overwrite it. Actually you can flash very easily any custom a500 ROM with a custom recovery.
Now, try to flash again by using an external SD, if it still doesn't boot, try to hard reset the device (tutorial on how to hard reset - in my signature - in the revert to 3.0.1 thread)

The above could not have been said any better by anyone. EXACT TRUTH.
i just want to add this is a leak for the a500 . I do not think i would call it official.Also Remember Its yet to be known of the procedure you will have to fallow to accept the RELEASE IF I C S from acer in April (when they say anyway)
Thou from the past i can nearly guarantee you there will be a way. But could require you to downgrade root and flash one of the many ics cwm roms..as in the post above mine signature

Thanks! This all makes sense. However, there remains something unclear to me. If I have to use an external SD to boot a leaked ROM, how/where does the OTA update install from on my internal sd card? Can't I just place this ROM where the OTA usually loads from and run recovery after that? Thanks in advance

The way you can flash it yourself (stock recovery: Vol down + power) requires an external SD. You don't have access to your internal storage by using stock recovery and there's no "key combo" you can use to do that. Once you install custom recovery, you'll be able to flash from Internal memory as well (thor's does, still haven't used RA recovery and don't know about it).
...But in order to install custom recovery, you need root. Custom recovery allows you to make full backups of your currently running FW + app data. If you're still on Honeycomb I recommend you get an external SD and go for the method 2 downgrade procedure and root it or go for timmyDean's procedure that installs rooted stock 3.2.1 ROM on your device (says it does need an external SD so it might be your choice), then install CWM and voila - you're in control and you can wipe your tab and install whatever cusom ROM you like....and you backup first of course
If you don't feel like messing with your tab's system, then wait a little more for ACER to release ICS OTA update.

[Q] nook Color 1.4.2

I just charged up my nook recently and then checked it out. It self updated to 1.4.2. I think I last ran a manual nooter on 1.2. In the upgrade they broke my zeam launcher and I can't seem to get back to my apps that were installed. i.e. to do a backup.
Is there anyway I can run a backup now that it's has 1.4.2 on it?

Just re-root and you should be all set. GMPOWER's made rooting 1.4.2 trivial.

Problem Updating to 1.4.2
I cannot manually update to 1.4.2. I have previously updated to 1.3.0 and to 1.4.1.
After I send the nookcolor_1_4_2_update.zip to my NC from my XP computer, the update starts to load. A box with an arrow appears with an android 'andy' and a green progress strip.
Then it stops and a white triangle with a yellow exclamation symbol appears next to 'andy',. Nothing else happens.
If I press the power button, clockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.1 appears with a menu of options.
I have never rooted or attempted an internal cm7 mod, but I occasionally use a cm7 sdcard.
I called B&N support and they say the triangle and 'Andy shouldn't happen.
It appears to me that clockworkmod revovery has somehow been installed on my NC internal operating system.
I would like to be able to receive additional NC updates.
My questions are:
1. Can I safely remove the clockworkmod recovery and then update my NC?
2. Is there a benefit to keeping the clockworkmod recovery that will outweigh the loss of future NC updates?

1. Yes, you can safely remove CWM and then update.
2. I personally install CWM as Alt Boot, install CyanoBoot to get the Power & Vol +/- access as well as boot menut to use recovery to factory reset via eMMC Recovery mode if wanted.
I have put together a CWM installable zip of stock 1.4.1 as well as some others.. and instructions on how to do it and files to put into stock ROM.... See this thread for instructions on doing it yourself.

I am a bit luckier but still could not get the 1.4.2 installed. Mine is running 1.2. I also use uSD for CM7/CM9 booting. When I tried to update the Nook Color to 1.4.2 by putting the zip file into Nook through USB connection. Nothing would happen and the zip file will be gone. I also have problem in installing apps in Nook native boot. I really think something has been changed in NC even I use solely uSD method for CM7/CM9 booting.

Since you have CWM installed on the device, you have a couple options:
You can download this file, LINK, boot into CWM, and flash the file to remove CWM from your device. You can then update the device using the stock method.
OR you can download this file,LINK,boot into CWM, and flash the file to update the device to version 1.4.2. This method will keep CWM installed on the device. If you no longer want CWM installed on the device after updateing, download this file, LINK, and flash it to remove CWM.
Keeping CWM installed on the device, will keep it from updating, and make it easier to flash/backup your system

Not offending by any mean but do you make sure you understand the whole thing?
First question, why you even mentioned about "uSD for CM7/CM9"? You are running CM or stock ROM?
Next, after xfering the 1.4.2, did you boot from uSD and running CM?
Next, there is NO REASON the zip file will be gone unless it detected and deleted by firmware, in which I am strongly believe you booted into verygreens uSD.

I have been using CM7/CM9 dual boot from uSD after I registered in Nook Color stock ROM. When I tried to update to 1.4.2, I removed the uSD before I put the zip file through USB connection according to BN's instruction. It went to sleep but nothing happened except that the zip file was gone. I tried that twice with the same result. I also have problem in installing apps in NC boot (with or without uSD inserted).
I am running mostly CM7 (and sometimes with CM9) using the dual boot uSD image from Racks. I did not know this way would install CWM or change anything in eMMC.

Thanks for your help. I have been using the uSD dual boot image from Racks and I updated it a few times. I did not know if that would install the CWM or not. It is good to know that it can be recovered easily. Thanks again.

One brute force approach is to restore to stock and then apply MN. If you want to do that you can create a bootable sd card using http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-...od-recovery-twrp-version-3-2-0-1-sd-card.html
Then you can flash stock BN1.4.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22809801&postcount=148
At this point, you can update to BN1.4.2 and then apply MN. I know many prefer to have CWM on emmc - but I am a firm believer in minimizing problems by keepin CWM on a bootable SD. Backup the device that you are running on has too many potential pitfalls.

You can get to by holding n, vol +, and power for 8 seconds after you see the screen flicker, or just n and power for 8 seconds.
If you can't get to it, that is fine. I would double check the system version information to make sure that you are on 1.2. Then I would would re-download the update file from B&N, LINK. The system will only delete the file if are already running that version, the file is corrupt, or you interrupt it in the process.
If you continue to have problems, you might want to think about doing a system restore, LINK
If you have a fully working 1.2 installation, you can also open Rom Manger, and install CWM. You can then install the 1.4.2 file that I link to you, and if you wish to remove when you are done, you can just flash that last file that I linked.
At least one should get you to where you need to be

Do you have to do a wipe to run the new manual nooter and by wipe what exactly does that mean?
also which app should I use to run the backup?

Ok, I kinda get your meaning, but could you possibly go step-by-step so I don't mess anything up? I really would prefer going with option #2 (why not use CWM while it's still on there?)
my most pressing question is -- how do I boot into CWM without using an SD-card? I have tried holding down "Power + n" and 'Power + Vol+", but neither work.

Huawei U8800 Aurora ROM Questions

Hi all!
This is my first post and I am new to rooting so I will not know as much advanced techniques/terms so please be patient.
I decided to root my phone to install a custom ROM (Thats what everyone wants, right?), more specifically to get a newer version of Android. I found the Aurora ROM by Dzo and I flashed 2.04 and it seems very fluid and fast. I didn't upgrade from the official 2.3 because I couldn't find the files. I'm really liking the ICS environment.
My first question is: How do I find/install a baseband? I want to use this as my daily ROM and I can't do much without signal.
Second, My battery indicator is not working and how do I fix this?
Thirdly, When I put the device to sleep for about 5 secs or more it will not wake up and reboots. Is this fixed with a later patch?
And lastly, What upgrade pattern should I use to get up to 5.0? (e.g. 2.04-2.5-2.6 etc or jump straight to a version and go from there)

First of All,you must install official gingerbread for install ICS.
Your problems (battery and baseband) are causing by old amss.bin (baseband) and old bootloader.
First,install official gingerbread with code name V100R001C00B518G001. If you install this version,you must not do root for install Aurora ICS.

If you install it,You must install CWM 5.0.2.8 or CWM 5.0.2.7 or CWM 6.0.2.8 or CWM 5.5.0.4 or TWRP Recovery. My prefence is install CWM 6.0.2.8

1.Download the recovery
2.Remove SD Card and delete dload folder in phone's internal memory (if exists).
3.Power on the device while pushing volume up and down buttons.
4.If the pink screen appears,connect the phone to PC and wait for detect the phone
5.Rename downloaded img file to recovery.img and copy it to image folder in mass storage in Pink Screen
6. Download latest Aurora 5.0 and update 20 and copy those files to your sd card.
7. Power On the phone while pressing volume up button.
8. Backup the system to your sd card
9. Do "Wipe data/factory set"
10.Install Aurora 5.0,then install update 20
11.Reboot the system. And that's it! Enjoy the ICS

Just one question, Do I install gingerbread without the device rooted? and do I have to wipe my phone?

You can install offical gingerbread on rooted ROM. You don't need to wipe because the system will do wipe automaticly

No. You do not have to wipe. But you can if you want.
To install official gingerbread, you can install it over a rooted or a non rooted device. It doesn't matter because when you install gingerbread. The device will automatically be un rooted. You would have to root your device again after installing official gingerbread.
The easiest way to root gingerbread is to use SuperOneClick. Here is a tutorial for rooting your gingerbread:

In the link above, just do the steps under 'Rooting the U8800 with SuperOneClick v2.3.3' and 'Installing ClockworkMod 5.5.0.4 on your U8800'.

When I try to flash the Gingerbread ROM, It says Installation aborted. Why is this?
I am using CWM 5.5.0.4

You do not flash official firmware with CWM.
You must extract the file that you have downloaded.
After extracting it, keep going into the extracted files until you find a folder called 'dload'.
Copy this dload folder to the root of sdcard.
Now, power on your phone by pressing and holding down the power + volume up + volume down buttons all together.
The phone will automatically start installing the official android 2.3

Lol, I just massively derped. ANyways, I installed it but it won't go past the boot animation. What should I do from here?

You don't need to pass boot animation. Do this;
1.Download the recovery
2.Remove SD Card and delete dload folder in phone's internal memory (if exists).
3.Power on the device while pushing volume up and down buttons.
