Returning the phone! - Focus General

I am using Outlook conector is easy and seems to be the solution. I HAVE MORE THAN 3,000 contacts in my Outlook and the Hotmail Contacts has a 1,000 contact limit !!!!
I suppose I have to wait for a third party SYNC APP.
I WANT to sync Outlook CONTACTS (and notes and tasks) with my WP7, Is Microsoft serious about this?

I know this is not the best answer but you could spread your contacts across multiple email services outlook, gmail, hotmail, & yahoo. You can then sync all of them to your phone. Is there a phone limitation to the number of contacts it can hold?

I only know like 5 people... lol

Please be sure to post a corresponding "Purchasing the phone!" thread when you find the phone suitable to house the information of your 3,000+ friends.
Maybe THEN you guys can CONVERSE while using RANDOM words CAPITALIZED. I'm serious about this.
No, but seriously, why make another post about this? You already have a thread detailing this supposed issue. Would it not have made more sense to edit your original post there saying you were just giving up and returning it? Maybe the people who attempted to help you there could stop trying to come up with solutions for this "problem"? Or maybe just return the phone, go back to whatever phone meets your needs, and stop creating threads to air out your grievances when the first one you made probably would suffice. Stop me if I'm making too much sense.

It's a disaster on their part. How the heck can you forget about reminders???
I have 5 reminders a day.
Also, 1000 contacts is the maximum you can sync over!
What a joke.
They blew it again.

See this link. support(dot)microsoft(dot)com/kb/2454811. It says "Windows Live has a storage limit of 6500 contacts per user." All you have to do is upload the contacts from outlook csv file in 500KB chunks. This should work. Report back if it does.

Why would you need and/or want 3,000 contacts on a phone. Heck I wouldn't want that many in Outlook.

You are serious about what?
I am not here to praise your toy in order for you to feel good about your purchase. A legitmate complaint helps educate the potential consumer with an understanding of someone elses experience. This is what forums are about, right? And capitalization inside the body of a post does not warrant a cat-like repsonse from you.
The phone is a great outside of the fact that you cannot sync reminders, one note, cut and paste, and there is no flash. The junk mail and filters makes the phone unusable without instilling filters through outlook.
MS will fix this. They have to. And when they do... I will buy the phone again, because right now I am back on the HTC Fuze until this is fixed.
Has anyone used Companion Link?

LOL...that last line sounds about as enthusiastic about the Fuze as I am about my Fuze. I still have it but only because it probably wouldn't be worth my while to sell it on eBay. I'm with ya, I hope this alleged January update addresses a lot of the shortcomings in the Focus, and there are plenty, but even as it is it works well enough to cover my needs so I'm keeping it. Early adopters alway go through this kind of torture but if Microsoft takes too long or adds a lot of stuff of dubious value while overlooking obviously needs and shortcomings, WP7 will be as dead as the Kin by this time next year.

At no point did I attempt to revoke your right to express your displeasure with a product that I own, and have likewise express some complaints about. My point of contention was that you insist on making new threads on an issue that is already identified in another thread, created by you no less.
Also, I'm familiar with the idea of forums, but thank you for reiterating. Likewise, I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you of the purpose of the "reply" button in threads you previously created. It's probably more efficient for compiling the important data you wish to educate the purchasing public with, as opposed to creating a new thread on the same topic every time a development with said issue arises.
I honestly don't care what you think of a product I own, since clearly you and I have different expectations of our products. I even stated in a previous thread that you should just return your phone and purchase what works for you. The part I don't understand is why in doing that, you also need to create a thread stating your return of the device...who were you helping with that input? You didn't raise any new issues, since like I pointed out, you already brought them up in previous threads you created.

No, capitalization do warrant you to get a cat-like response from anyone. You know what is the meaning of the capitalization in forum, right?
But then again, you're free to use your right to express your feelings, anger, dissatisfaction about your phone in this forum. Just do it in a good manner, okay?

My Focus syncs reminders and OneNote.
If you put your OneNote notebook on SkyDrive it syncs automatically - just do a search and you'll certainly find the instructions to do this. I synced my calendar with Hotmail via Outlook Connector and all of my reminders synced just fine.

I am not having any issues syncing my Focus with my outlook, you just need accept te cloud as it is the future. It is hard to get used to but after using it for a few days it seems to be worth it. you can have access to all of your contacts worldwide without your phone, make realtime updates etc.

Okay Captain. Now that you have released some estrogen, do you have any thoughts as to why we need a cloud when I have a PC in my left hand and a phone in my right?
I'll take some phone advise over reprimands if you don't mind so.

Really? Where did you sell it? I hope to be selling my FUZE shortly, and I would be more than happy with $100 for it.

Secret sms

Hello all,
New to android (nexus one) after many years on windows mobile.
Are you aware of any software like "secret sms" for android?
Thanks and have a nice week-end
Not that I know of, but it looks like something I'd be veeeeeery interested in!
This looks close:

This looks accurate:

Your search was more effective than mine Thanks.
If you test these let us have ur feedback. will do the same asa I receive my phone.
The concept of secret SMS messages is hilarious... are you guys teenagers? If you're scumming with multiple girls, what's the issue. Obviously you're a "man", so man up and don't let any of them play with your phone.
Maybe they aint out the closset yet

Fair enough... I suppose I can be more empathetic to that.
Lol.. came here to post the same response. I can definitely think of a couple of legitimate uses (want to throw a surprise party for your girlfriend or something) but this definitely involves having some sort of girls on the side sort of thing or hiding drugs/alcohol/sexting ;p related posts from prying parents.

Dont be a queer. If there fooling around with multiple girls how does that make them a "teenager" ??? Ridiculous.
I find alot of people tend to send FWded spam messages.
I will often let my family members check out my phone. I dont feel the need to have my aunt or little niece stumble into some of the convos or even a picmail I may have sitting there.
Sometimes I have long running threads with people I put aside until im ready to delete or read through again.
Handcent does a great job with its blacklist on SMS which you can hide unhide anytime.
Log Assist pro does a great job cleaning up your recently called lists . But doesnt work on Nexus One yet.
This forum is getting full of clowns who cant fathom usage or functionality beyond there own personal preferences.

Look bro, a grownup should be able to grow a pair and set parameters to their relationships. There's nothing wrong with having casual relationships with more than one person, so don't misinterpret me. I'm just saying there's nothing to hide. If you want to be with multiple girls, be open about it... don't pussyfoot (pun intended) around like a child. That's all I'm saying.
Anyway, your point about spam messages is well taken. I've yet to receive any, but I'm sure that can be irritating. The surprised b-day party example is also valid. Obviously my mind went straight to the shady side of the equation.

I use Handcents Blacklist also to keep convo's from popping up when I'm letting my family, friends, or even customers look at my phone. I don't need something from my girl popping up while they're checking it out.

That's exactly what I need it for. I don't need my nephews reading my private chats with my GF.
Handscent blacklist is great if the snoop uses Handscent to read the messages. It doesn't help at all if the stock message app is chosen by the snoop. In my case the stock app is the "Messages" app for the HTC Hero
Get Super Private Conversation. It does exactly what are asking here...
Super Private Conversation is indeed excellent. Thanks.
I would just like to say that there are many uses for this kind of thing other than hiding women from each other. I do a lot of work with cellphones/btses and such and some of the things I make can communicate through SMS and frankly no one wants to see hundreds of SMS worth of gibberish.

I am Making A Website

I'm making a site, called market4android which you developers can feature your apps/roms on, etc. I'd love for you guys to contact me so we can get the ball rolling. It's a great domain that gets a lot of search engine hits, so if you're looking to get your name out there and get your apps out there, then please PM me and let me know what you have and all that cool stuff!
The site should be online for most of the world. If it is not, give it a while because it may still need to update on world servers.
Check it out, leave feedback, etc, and developers! hit me up and let me know if I can post your ROMs on the site. Don't want nobody getting mad at me!
Reminds me of a site that I frequent called XDA.
Maybe I am missing the point? Are you simply offering to host files?

You'll never get anywhere waiting for others to send you content. If you want to post a rom, post info, screenshots, etc. and link out to the post where they can get it and more info.
This may be a dumb question, but here goes anyway....
It's not hard at all to get an app included on the Android Market. What advantage are you offering over going that route?
So far I've only written a few Android apps, and they were both custom jobs for clients that would not be at all interesting to the general public. (And they have a LOT of tweaking left to do before I'd call them anything I'm proud of. I'm new to Android, it'll take awhile for me to catch up with the stuff I've done for WinMo and PalmOS.)
But I've considered diving into some more generally appealing projects, and the Android Market currently offers me both the ability to distribute for free, and the ability to monetize my efforts if I decide to go that route. Either route gives me pretty widespread exposure.
As a developer, my main question would be: "What extras are you offering that the existing marketplace leaves out?" (i.e. How can you make me more money? And/or give me wider exposure?)
I don't think he is making a place to distribute apps (at least that's not what I got), I thought he was making a place to be like "hey look what's going on in the dev community, check out this app and this rom, etc."

So a review site?
That could be very, very cool. Only trick is building a large readership.....
With that in place, it could very easily be something that developers want to pay close attention to.

I'd definitely be letting developers have publisher accounts so they can work on getting exposure from my site, etc. It's not totally about me distributing apps...
Try to picture this: I can get traffic. Traffic coming to my site and seeing your apps there, your ROMs there, etc, want to download them, etc, well, not only gets you not only exposure, but income from the apps as well seeing as how they're downloading you stuff because they found info and reviews on it on my site.
Yes, the market would definitely be the #1 way to go, but what harm can it do to get some more exposure to your stuff? as well as get user reviews and the income that youre concerned about?

I will create mirrors for your files etc, and yes, you are missing the point. I wasn't 100% absolute sure in the direction I was heading with this, but I am offering you the exposure of traffic that comes to my site to see your apps etc, when they may not have ever noticed your app in the marketplace. User reviews, developer releases and all kinds of cool **** can happen here if you're willing to crack the shell away a little bit and accept my offer of free exposure to your stuff.
Why the hell would anyone pass up free? Beats me.

For the record, my comments were not meant to be disparaging, but to help you figure that out.
I'm not going to go into how old I am, but I'm not exactly wet behind the ears. I was making a living in the "computer field" since long before anything called a "web browser" ever existed. The first time I heard about Mosaic, my reaction was "eh, sounds like gopher with pictures. big deal." (It wasn't a great article....)
There are two main reasons why projects fail. The first, and by far the greatest, is because the people starting that project never ask themselves, and come up with a clear answer to, "what problem am I trying to solve?"....
The second reason is that they fail to ask themselves "Is my solution something people will actually use?".
If you have good answers to those two questions, then the rest is just the legwork of getting it done. If you don't have good answers to those questions, then no amount of work will produce a successful outcome.
Sorry if I sound harsh, just trying to be helpful.

Not harsh at all and I comprehend your points. Maybe my tone sounded harsh when it was simply factual and jsut telling my purpose.
I feel that the purpose of this site I opened is good, and it can be very useful. But just like any other good thing, it usually cannot be done by one person. Support for the project is always a plus, and it can be made to be an excellent resource for people who are green on both sides, that want to get into modding android devices.
I dont think that it is a waste of my time, but in order for it to make it to where I'd like it to be, it can definitely use all the support and input that it can get. Thats why I brought the whole subject up, here. There are lots of developers here and even I am new to a lot of the stuff here, and I feel that it would be a great asset to a lot fo folks here if you jsut give it a chance.

Oh, I never meant to imply it was a waste of time. Nothing of the sort. I think the Android platform has a huge amount of potential. For the people developing the platform, for the people developing apps to run on top of it, and for people creating the entire ecosystem that will surround it.
I guess what I was trying to do was get you thinking about a statement that you ended up making yourself. That you weren't 100% sure about the direction you wanted to take this. Whatever direction you decide on, I think your chances of success are much greater if you have a clear idea of what that direction is.
That said, I like your idea. I'd love to hear more about what you have in mind.

well an app review site would be great as i tend to follow users input when i download apps, and the input in the Market is just crap .. what some user find to be a bad app could actualy be a very good app for others. i sometime do it myself when i download an app , i look for user rating and comments. and decide wether to download the app or not, based on the user ratings..
The other thing would be a app request, meaning i been loking for an app that will play FLAC or AAC music files, i found 2 , 1 is from XDA ( a good app but the GUI is must to be desired ) the other is a cheap app that sometimes plays sometimes dont.. LOL
if someone would make good app for this i would be willing to pay for it 20.00 if i had to ...
The point is i would love a place that i could go to and request an app or suggest ideas for an app..
my 2 cents

You're able t request apps and stuff there, I honestly havent set that section up because I am working on other content first. You can possibly post a new thread requesting someone code something for you, but I am not sure on the pricing of their work, etc. Let me work on getting some good app coders on my side and then I'll open up the requests section.

Ok I read that thread. Someone help me understand something... do you guys want to carry around your Xoom and use it as your phone? Why?
I have no plans to stop using my Nexus One. I feel like a loser because I don't understand the big deal here. Someone explain it to me like I'm a child.
jesus christ no
ok clearly you dont get it. not a big deal.
its more then that, lets say im on my tablet, phone not near me
voice mails get transcribed/organized from it as well as textmessages (that are done through data!)
everything can be starred, controlled and archived
meaning you can organize your information on a much better level.
you can control how a voicemail are answered for particular people, have a do not disturb time as well.
you can download voice mails and phonecall recordings, and mail them.
its not so i can have a oversized phone. its just much, much more than that, and so convenient, so i can have that information on me and control it.
I hope this helped. you should try youtubing google voice videos to see just how amazing it is.
if you dont find it to fit your needs i understand (or you probably didnt really read more into it, i just got into it last year and pretty much got ALOT of people in it as well)
please help at least on the forum, much appreciated.
Yes, I'm looking forward to the day I can hold my Xoom to my head while walking through NYC and talking to my friends
I use GV on my ipad as I'll get text messages on that number. The GV client is for the iphone and doesn't scale up as nicely but it works. Also, I find it easier to listen to email and take notes on the larger screen.
Posted. Thanks for the link, that was quick and simple to add a reply on.
Lets cross our fingers!
I would've put money on this being an app Google would've included with the launch of 3.0. Posted.
thanks.

Yeah can't believe that it's not implemented...posted
Off to throw in my comment. Count me into the people who don't use GV for voice, but for SMS and retrieving my VoiceMail. I'm in Europe a couple of times a year and this lets me stay connected to people in the States as it all works on WiFi too.
I'll bet that the only reason the .APK is FCing is 'cause it's tripping over the APIs needed for telephony, which probably aren't in a tablet-only codebase (right now). It might be as simple (OK, probably not ) as commenting that code out?
How about you just use it via the browser for now? Like how it was done on iPhone before apple let the app on the market.

... because if I'm going to have to manually check my browser every few minutes to see if I've gotten an SMS, it somewhat defeats the point doncha think? I've moved nearly everything that sends SMS (even my credit cards and my airlines) to GV SMS because you're not tied to any particular carrier.
Luckily I'm still carrying an Android phone so I get my notifications there, but I've piled on in the request thread so that they can hopefully get what must be a relatively-straightforward fix in before I have to leave the States again- I'd like to be able to use my Xoom for everything while abroad.
keep it going
decent amount of people have posted, im surpised google mods havent replied. ive seen them do some swift replies else where for the most part too...intresting
I've never used it but there again, I've never owned an Android-based device. Just wanted to support your endeavors!

Possible Valuable Help

Hello! I've come in contact with Greg Kumparak who wrote this arictle. I sent him the following email:
Hey Greg!
First off, i wanted to say after joining twitter just minutes ago, I was scrolling through your tweets and found them very funny and helpful.
Next, I was reading an article you wrote involving conflipper and the Microsoft Kin. To jog your memory, the Kin is the disaster phone Microsoft intended to market for teens. I have also been fairly active in a group at XDA Developers attempting to crack the Kin Two phone now sold by Verizon. There have been significant advances toward the ability to write and edit files on the phone itself. I'm sure you'll find our endeavorvery interesting and I'd be happy to explain all the details. In a nutshell: the phone is more secure normal phones, runs off a form of Win7Mobile, is sold as a "feature phone", and, without a doubt, has potential to rival smart phones. Of course, since the phone uses WiFi, these abilities (one could say, smartphone-like) do not require a data package. If thats not bang for the buck, I don't know what is.
Anyway, I'd like to know If you think the story of this phone and its ability to have apps is worth writing an article on. Some pretty exciting things are going on with the device, currently there is a facebook group getting in contact with Personal Communications Devices (company) and a group of HTML experts writing our free version of Microsoft old cloud system for the kin, kin.com.
If you dont think this article can make it, I understand. Either way, however, I was hoping you could give me an email address for conflipper because I'd like to shoot him an email asking about what he found in the kin ROMs and how he got in.
Thanks for you'r time, I'm sure your a busy man,
(My Name Here)
He replied minutes later by saying something alone the lines of "I'm interesting and want more details" (I dont want to quote him w/o permission). He also informed me that conflipper is retired and his old site is here. I would like to set up a skype/phone chat with Greg for the mutual benefit of us both. In his favor, he is interested and would possibly like to write an article about our homebrews. To the benefit of us, I'm sure he has many contacts and a published article could attract the attention we need.
I would like a few key people to be on the line with Greg in order to present all aspects of the Kin-Hacking World. Don't hesitate to mention anything I should be presenting to him. If you feel you should be included in the phonecall/skype please state why. I would like JohnKussack to be there also. EDIT: I plan to show him the concept document the dev group (from the facebook group) has on google docs.
Feel free to comment/leave your opinion.

Let's make a big campaign to get JB's kernel for Atrix!

Hello guys,
Recently Motorola canceled ICS update for Atrix, but i'm wondering: did they started the dev and left middle way, or did nothing at all? If they stopped middle way, we might be able to use they kernel (it's what we need right now), and that would be awesome.
Ofc, Motorola won't release them easily. But what if we ask? What if we make a campaign on social networks and Android websites, and make it really loud? I'm sure i saw this happening for other stuffs, so why not our phone?
My idea is pretty simple:
We setup a hotsite with a simple message and users just have to click on the button referent to his social network to share the campaign. On Twitter, we can mention Motorola's profile, to be sure they are hearing us.
I already have the template ready, and it looks kinda like this: http://takemymoneyhbo.com/tweetit.php
I also have a VPS with Nginx + microcache, PHP-FPM and APC ready to go, so it's able to handle a big spikes of traffic (Digg/Reddit effect). What i need right now is the domain and, ofc, the message to be posted on social networks and on the hotsite itself.
We also would need to think about a name for this campaign (the name of the domain). Like i said, server is ready, template is ready, we only need the messages and a domain, since i can't pay for that at the moment.
As an alternative, we could also use this idea to get JB officially, but i think most of us would install a custom ROM anyway.
List of suggested domains so far:
icanhasdrivers.com
icanhasics.com
retakemotoatrix.com
myphonecanhasICS.com
weonlyneedyourkernel.com
updatemymoto.com (the chosen one)
What do you guys think? Worth doing it? Anyone up to pay for the domain? I will setup a donation button, if anyone is up for paying a domain, just donate
EDIT: The name of the campaign will be Update My Moto! The message for the hotsite and how it looks, can be see here: http://i48.tinypic.com/51eb95.png
As soon as we get the domain, i will close this thread and create a official one for the campaign. Let's rock guys!
Obs: sorry for my English.
might work if you also include other way to file a complaint against moto like via BBB. Motorola might not care about us when we complain to them but moto might care about losing the BBB accreditation. So include other methods like that.

You can count me in on making as much noise as we can on the matter.
I think it is worth trying. I doubt we would succeed. But worth trying anyway.
So all you need is a domain? No hosting account?
What about:
icanhasdrivers.com or icanhasics.com

Why you doubt it will succeed? I can try to get it on Gizmodo and lots of other bug websites, since i myself own a big Ubuntu website at Brazil. I think we can make this get pretty big, and Motorola would end up listening.

Yes. We need to come up with a good name for the campaign and a good domain. I also need someone to pay for the domain, since with all the servers i already pay and other stuffs, i'm pretty much out of money haha
Oh, we also need a message that cause impact.

What is "BBB"? I'm sorry, don't think i know it. But as long as it have a share-able link, i'm able to add it.

"BBB" Stands for the Better Business Bureau. It's a consumer agency that takes complaints and helps direct it at the appropriate place. They work with the company and consumer to resolve the dispute. They cover businesses ranging from carpet cleaning to food to cell phone companies. Some companies tout their high rating with the BBB, like a report card, so they value it staying high.
How about retakemotoatrix.com or nomoremotofail.com
I kinda like the ring to "RetakeMotoAtrix"

we need to gather more moto users (photon, etc)
myphonecanhasICS
icanhasics.com --> the best so far
Vote me in. I have already tweeted with hashtag #motofail
Anything with "icanhas" it's too meme-ish to be taken seriously, IMO.

I doubt Motofail will care about all the noise.

I'm sick and tired of these corporations/companies walking all over dedicated customers and getting away with it, so you can count me in as well. Even if we don't succeed, I'd be glad to get back at this lying, backstabbing company with some negative publicity.
I don't think it will work because big corporations are stupid. They look at us and think they have only pissed off a few thousand users. They forget that people like us tend to be tech support/advisers for our friends and family.
I agree with jhonnyx that we will need support from other device groups too. I know the Photon got screwed, but what other devices? It would be helpful to post in their forums as well. This should also not be limited to xda. There are many other forums as well. Maybe once we get a little more organized. This will have to be a huge effort to succeed.
This campaign will also have to be clean and catchy. Nothing related to motofail. Motorola will never draw attention or succumb to anything like this.
Why not motoupgwanted... That way it could be used for more then just us?
All you need is domain? Cost what $10 a year, why not set up donation button I'm sure you can get 20 of us to give .50 cents (cost est)

I have already submitted the following post in the usual Atrix ICS thread but I thought it would be useful in this tread as well.
"Just wanted to provide another pointer as to why it is possible to take legal actions and possibly criminal prosecution, in countries where it applies, against Google/Motorola. Security fixes, rather the lack of, from GB 2.3.4 to JB 4.0.1. You want to remember the latest security flaw in Android about a crafted web page that can wipe Android phones without a possibility to recover the lost data.
Why Atrix users should be left without the security fixes and how Google will propose a solution?"
Furthermore to what I have said in above I am certain that only a legal campaign will solve this problem, anything else would be waste of energy.
We already have enough valid technical reasons to argue the case but we need members with legal expertise in matters like this. In my opinion launching two legal precedents, one in Europe and the other in USA, would get us to a proper settlement. Please remember this is not really about just Atrix whereas about two corporates that ripped off consumers without a shame in bright day light.
Hey Motorola, just give us the drivers we want, and step away from the Atrix!
Seriously, is that too much to ask?
Count me in.
However, I also don't believe Moto will deliver. But if we can make some bad publicity to them, let's do it. They deserve it.
And...
