AmazonMP3 Package - Attachment FIXED - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

I have invited a couple of chefs to add this package to their ROMs if they are interested. I am surprised there is not more interest.
This is the package for AmazonMP3 that is working now. I extracted it using HTC ROM Image Editor from the new T-Mobile Leo 3.14.531.1 ROM for HD2.
The old AmazonMP3 cab that has been around since February never worked - you could search, browse, even sample songs, but it would not authenticate with Amazon servers. I flashed the new TMOUS ROM to my HD2 just to test this new version and it worked. The only requirement is to have an Amazon account, and "1-click purchase" turned on, but thats it!
I then extracted the package, and installed it on my Elegancia ROM, but was not sure exactly which folders to put some of the files - I had tried to manually copy files from a fully flashed ROM and put them in the same folders on my phone, but it failed to fully authenticate. So with this package, I just put all the files in a single folder on my SD card It works!
This is NOT the way I like to do things, even though it works correctly - It even keeps a download history. So,here is the full package, all set for adding into someones kitchen, or, better still, making a nice cab for the community.
Package attached.

Here's a link to the leaked version of the ROM that Football posted about 3-4 weeks before the official one was released. Not sure if it has the same package as I did not have time to check. Providing the link in case you do not have a serial number that allows download of the official:
Sorry ALL - My zip file was pooched... Attaching a proper one now!!!!

Im going to sound like a noob and im sorry in advance but i downloaded your file and went to unzip it on my computer and there is nothing there at all. Maybe its something i am doing. I dont know. Next off is there any way you can just make this into a cab file like the old one was? I am very interested in this and flashed the t-mobile rom just because of this file.

This is only a empty zip file...

I would LOVE to, but...

If you read a bit closer, I state (perhaps not too clearly) that this is as much as I could accomplish. I COULD make a cab, but I do not know how to make one for a package of this type. (To install it all in the correct folders) In fact, I am still poking around the TMOUS 3.14 ROM for a provisioning file that shows what an installers steps would be... I put the package up with the hope that someone more familiar with that would either make a cab (preferably) or incorporate the package in their ROM (good, if I can use that ROM, LOL)

I would LOVE to, but...
Sorry - doble post (it's been one of THOSE days, sheeesh!)

How to apply custom packs

Hi,
I just downloaded a WM7 custom pack. But all it contains are images. No XML no cab no exe.
How do I install it?
I searched the forums and even downloaded the software called Today Life 276 but still I don't get how to exactly use it.
Sorry for the inconvenience if I've missed something
Thanks
Did you download one that has like 6 or 7 folders inside just full of giberish images and stuff? Perhaps via a torrent? If so, just go ahead and throw it away my man, it does not work with the wizard, at least I cant get it to anyways.
Well I downloaded a Custom Pack WM7 by dielo from this forums only...
It's got 3 folders: Photon Home, Photon Home 3Tabs, Photon WMP
Each folder has LOTS of png images named in a wierd way.
Wizard anyone...

Very Quick Question

If I take a ROM in .ZIP format and unzip it on my PC into a folder with the same name...
Then delete any .APKs of programs I have no use for (Twidroid, facebook, etc) and then replace the boot.img with a different kernel of my choice and different SuperUser.apk...
Can I then ZIP this primary folder and load it as a ROM onto my MT3G?
Forgive me if this sounds really stupid, but I have no idea.
Would it need to be "cooked" before I can load it??
When you cook you need to make sure the gloves are on and you have the oven's temp turned up real nicely to fry that thing
I guess you didnt search or something? I need you to confirm that you cant/can see this at the top left corner of screen:
xda-developers > Dream > Dream Android Development
Press Dream then head to Q&A section please.Wait a sec...Thats not a Dream..You belong here for asking q's about your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=480
Just do a search for signing tool and it shows up.

its more complicated than it looks...
First u will have to know if removing those .apk will not cause any trouble...
Second u will have to sign the apks u r going to add, and signed the zip too...
about changing the boot.img has been tried before in another thread...
but most important u will have to search, search and read, read...
going to try and find some thread for u, before the mods closed this...
Need to have it resigned...once a zip file is open it breaks the signature but I would aslo like to kno if this is possible

here its a thread about resigned:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473580
read it all, has interesting stuff, but keep searching...
actually i would like to try this too...
if u ask devs, unless they want to teach u, great...
Wow...
You can open zips (roms/updates) and browse them without the need to resign them. If you change any of the contents in a zip (rom/update) file, as in remove or add, then you have to resign. You do not have to resign the apks you add to the zip (rom/update) file.
To do what you want to do, refer to the link about signing zips that was posted above. Remove the APKs, sign the zip (rom/update) file, and apply the update to your phone.
bring in the wrecking crew!
anyone know how to run this on a mac?
Ha people had post, but the one that make the thread, its no where...
Sweet! Thanks folks.
The "Search" function is the most important in any forum, but it does the user no good if they have absolutely positively no idea what to search for... lol
My goal is to take Manup's Eclair_2.1-v1.5 and remove all the .APKs I don't have any use for... Swap the boot.img for the eclair one with the 10MB hack, replace the SpareParts.APK with one that contains "Keep home app in memory" option, etc, etc, etc.

You've just described in detail what about 90% of roms out there really are: open zip, add/remove files, ..., profit!!!
As mentioned correctly by Moonspoon, all you'd need afterwards is to sign your package (just to ensure that there's no problems with the signature, delete the three files inside /META-INF (leave the folders alone)).
Also, as mentioned by ginatojr (kind of...), you have to know which files you're removing, for example, removing TelephonyProvider.apk, well, that should be obvious. One that's not so obvious is gtalkservice.apk. When I first started, I removed it because I though it was part of Google Talk, when in fact it's more closely related to GoogleApps and SubscribedFeedsProvider.
The only times you want to deal with signatures is if your roms come from two different sources (if you're using an AOSP test-signed core and want to toss in some release-singed Google apps), but for the most part it's unnecessary and mostly discouraged as it's a different can of worms.
So, yeah, that's basically "Rom Cooking 101", where most other people releasing roms are at "Rom Cooking 102", there's really nothing to it.

The keep in home might not work on 2.1 roms yet.
If this works out... My future plans would include doing this to streamline and modify any ROM of my choice as they are released.
I have absolutely no intention of modifying ROMs for redistribution.
This will be for my own personal needs alone.
Can anyone tell me where the .APK files of Market downloads are stored on the handset?

NEVERMIND!
Found them in /SDCard/BackupRoot/app directory.

Default Live Wallpapers?

Does anybody know where to get the default set of live wallpapers for CM5.0.7? I know you can get ripoffs in the market, but I really think the default ones are the cleanest.
Thanks for any help!
You can probably extract them from CM's Nexus One build over in the Nexus One developer forum.....
I extracted the apk from the N1 rom and it installed fine. FYI the water one doesn't work with our phones (G1), and the galaxy one doesn't seem to load. The polar clock and the grass work though.
Was really hoping to have the water one working, my mom showed it to me on her Droid last week, dope as hell.
Can you post the apk you got? Or at least point me in the direction so I can learn how to extract it myself? Thanks!
Basically all you need to extract something from a ROM is the ROM itself (as a zip file), and then a program that will let you "open" the zip without unzipping it. Personally, I use 7-zip and it has never failed me. All you need to do is right click on the ROM file and choose open under the 7zip menu.
This of course is assuming you have Windows as your OS on your PC. After you open the ROM you can browse to the /system/app folder and you have access to all the N1 apk files there. Presumably, all you need to do is copy the live wallpapers apk from that ROM to your G1 and install it. I haven't verified that this works, but it would be the way to do it.
Good luck
~DM
Excellent!
For all that are interested, I have attached the apk. Hope this is allowed.
Oh, and all the LWPs are REALLY slow....
I downloaded the simple Pong LWP from the market and it runs awesome. Its nothing spectacular but it gives me a running LWP that doesn't bog down the system.

2.13 update on mac???!!!help

anyone else ona mac that cant get on a pc figure out how to do this i wanted to flash via sd card and cant ? i guess soo what am i to do i am already downloading wine/macports/x11/xcode3.1
as directed by
http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/#part-5
anyone who acctually knows what they are doing wanna lend a hand i think im almost done waiting on terminal to finish then maybe run the update .exe
i don't have a mac or a tmous but here's my theory.
i'm pretty sure the .exe won't install under wine, however the exe is nothing more than a zip file that can execute itself, so first off i'd try using a mac version of winzip or similar to try open it as an archive, or if that doesn't work, try running winrar in wine and again see if you can open the archive.
(you could even try simply changing the file name from .exe to .zip, see how your compression software reacts.)
once you get it open you can extract ruu_signed.nbh and move on to flashing from sd card.
alternatively, something like bootcamp to boot to a windows install.(go for xp if that's all you're using it for) and then you should certainly be able to unzip the .exe, though i'm uncertain whether you'll be able to usb flash, even from xp.(i know you can't use bootcamp for hspl.)
ok
ok soo i downloaded the leaked version cause i cant get to download the offical download, but i download the zip file and im runing 10.6.3 (latest) it gets unarchived and i get the exe file and how w ould i extract it just opens up in a txt edit and get the usual symbol jamble.

[Q] htc_cime for legend with froyo 2.2

Hi,
I live in China and got an already rooted legend from a super friendly little shop in the neighbourhood here, but it came with a horrendous goapk.com rom which severely locked down my ability to install anything from the market - instead, it tried to force me into this relatively useless Chinese goMarket thing. So, waiting patiently, I finally installed the MoDaCo custom ROM last week and everything is running sweetly.
Only now I find I actually miss a couple of the customisations the Chinese ROM had on it. In particular, the htc_cime was very useful to me because it supported handwriting input - the Google Pinyin IME is less useful to Chinese noobs like me who can't read the sound of the characters and need to input the handwriting.
I have had a http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7276627 rummage around these threads and found lots of htc_cime packages, none of which work on Legend under Froyo. Does anybody have a solution? The apk's that do install die immediately when I try to input text, and I don't know what to do with the zip files available on that site - I can extract them, but then it says "Application not installed" without any further help.
Cheers and thanks! Maybe the IME will turn up when 2.2 finally comes out for stock Legends, which will surely happen any minute now
So, a few hundred reads and no replies. Seems like a difficult issue, and obviously not many people are interested in using Chinese handwriting. Should I post this on the development thread? Can anyone at least give some advice on how to install these .zip distribution packages? I know how to install a .apk using the file manager, is some other app necessary to install the .zips?

I just downloaded the .zip file from your link and it had the .apk file inside it and another zip (?).
A zip file is a zip file, they are not android specific, have been around at least 20 years now, it is a compressed file, windows or whatever os you use should be able to open it no problems and then just extract/copy the apk inside to your phones sd card and install it, you also need to open the other zip file INSIDE the zip file (yay recursion) and extract/copy the folder to your sd card as well.
I didn't install it myself as I am still on éclair.
It may be that ZIP files are not Android specific, but to install one you should flash it with ROM Manager or from Clockworkmod Recovery. I don't know if extracting the zip and installing the .apk is working like that. The reason for doing this is mainly because some files cannot be written or replaced when phone is in normal use. From that link I saw it is a signed package (by the name) and it should be installed via ROM Manager or recovery
Hi again,
I tried unzipping the .apk file and installing it, but also no luck. I am fairly sure the .apk installer references the "zi" folder ("zi" means character in Chinese), as that folder seems to contain a lot of files describing the metrics and probably recognition of each character as you write it. Still no luck though.
Using the ROM manager to install packages seems a bit like overkill though - if the Google IME can be installed as an apk without rebooting, surely any IME can be installed like that?
I might ask htc about this when the official 2.2 FOTA comes out, if I claim I had it before and it wasn't in the update they might just send me an .apk that will sort this out once and for all. No big hopes on that one though.
Cheers,
Leon
