Concerning the *#*#4636#*#* menu - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I tried messing around with the options in the *#*#4636#*#* keypad menu to help improve battery life, I read that changing options under "phone info" in the "set preferred network type" can help that regard, but I wanna change it back to the default. Anyone know what it is? Here is what I can choose:
- WCDMA preferred
- GSM only
- WCDMA only
- GSM auto (PRL)
- CDMA auto (PRL)
- CDMA only
- EvDo only
- GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
- Unknown
I think it's the one that's bolded but I could be wrong. If anyone that hasn't manipulated these settings could enter the command in their keypad and tell me what they have, or their opinions about these settings I'd really appreciate it.

Default is WCDMA preferred.

so does anyone know which options to use?
ie for different countries and different regions..

on my HD2 it is "WCDMA preferred"

gsm auto (PRL)
If you choose gsm auto (prl) it will still use all networks but have less data drops and use less battery.

Switching from auto to GSM mode selection.

I live in the United Kingdom and often would like to use my Xperia in GSM mode to conserve battery life. But which is the correct mode to choose?
When i go into the phones settings/band it offers me
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900) but also offers me
GSM(1900+850+UMTS(1900+850)
Which is the correct one for me in the Uk ?
i think that you would use the first one you listed since umts850 is an american 3g band used by at&t
If you just want 2g, set "Select your network type" to "GSM".
There is no need to change "Select your GSM/UMTS band" from "Auto", but if you insist it's "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900)"
thanks for that info...much appreciated.

wcdma preferred. ..??

Had a Droid for awhile and could allways change between cdma and Evdo but with my fascinate it is set to wcdma preferred and will not change...??
check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794551
ya i know how to get to the settings but i can choose cdma/auto prl but it wont stick.
Is there an answer for this?
Stock Fascinate, looking to resolve a high Time Without Signal (50%). I'd like to try changing from WCDMA Preferred to CDMA Auto (PRL). I'm aware of the setting under the debug/test menu (*#4636*1111#, then under Phone information > Set preferred network type), but the setting doesn't stick.
If i leave the settings page w/ the Home button, checking the setting shows that it has changed to "Unknown" and seems to stay that way if I exit in that manner.
If I exit the page using the back button, the setting reverts to WCDMA Preferred.
Is there a way to make the setting stick?

Disable 2G/GSM

Hello,
I have been trying hard to find a way to disable 2G on my MIUI Rom. The problem is that the "WCDMA Only" option is not available in the JB MIUI rom and I do not want to let my phone to to 2g as its roaming (in Canada, the AWS providers don't have 2G overlay)
I Have tried the *#*#4636*#*# method but it reset s to "WCDMA preferred" after a reboot.
I have also tried to modify the build.prop but it did not take effect. (Set ro.telephony.default_network=2)
Anyone have any ideas to stop the phone from going to 2G for good?

That is the correct line for setting WCDMA only. If that didn't work, then....?
i9505 LTE/WCDMA Only (autoconnect), possible?
I'm not sure if someone already did this but, is it possible to totally disable GSM and let LTE/WCDMA auto-connect?
I'm using i9505 and GSM is included in the LTE auto connect option on the network types.
Hope there is LTE/WCDMA Only (autoconnect) option.

LTE band availability and usage

I've noticed that using the dialer code: *#*#4636#*#* we can access a debugging menu.
Tap 'Phone Information' and you'll see a slew of information about the current connection status.
As you can also see, there's a drop down box labeled 'Set Preferred Network Type:' which allows you to change the cellular network type(just like in the Mobile network settings Menu). This is great if you are in a location and have a data connection but aren't getting any throughput. But there's also a drop down under box under the same 'Phone Information' debugging menu, on the top right(three button) that gives you an option of selecting the radio band as well.
My question is, will there be a way to implement into custom Roms or kernels to allow the radio bands and network types to switch to the best frequency with most data throughput?
Walking through my house, I have dead zones. In those dead zones I have to switch to 800mhz and change my type to LTE/WCDMA. Could we have an auto search for radio frequencies and the individual bands on those frequencies or will I always have to manually change them?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the "Select Radio Band" is set to "Automatic" by default, and changing it to something else (like "Cellular 800"), prevents you from going back into automatic mode unless you reset your modem (easiest via TWRP).

Usually the modem resets to auto when I hard reboot. Either way, the automatic setting isn't doing its job.
