wifi cant download from android market - Galaxy Tab General

as the title said
im using office wifi
browsing are ok
but cant download
firewall thing? bug thing? any solution or fix?

Don't worry... its just the market having troubles. This happens quite often, especially on the eve of an update to android.
Just keep cancelling and installing or wait for it to settle down. Welcome to android!

Don't worry. My office WiFi also doesn't work for Android Marketplace. My home WiFi works though. Probably the corporate firewall blocks the access to some custom port required for Marketplace to work. On googling, I got a tip that; if your google talk app works, then probably you marketplace should also work.
Just try it on a WiFi with no restrictions and it should work fine. 3G should also work.

right, after the admin gave me full access, it worked
thanks to ftgg99 too for helping me finally choose this tab

What I noticed when that happens, if I tap the home key then open Google Talk and signout then sign back in... It starts downloading over wifi.
Just my observation.

I can confirm, it's the firewall. I was about 5 seconds away from a factory reset (that is all I had left to try), but then I found this thread.
I have a "failsafe" rule setup that allows all outbound traffic to go out regardless of port, on my wired and wireless subnets. Once I enabled it, all my downloads came down.
I always figured with my G1 that you had to be connected to Google Talk to download, but I also thought you needed to be over 3g. I now know wifi works, just open up the firewall some.

Can't download from Market over wifi (but can on 3G)

Hi,
Thanks for this forum, it's given me lots of useful tips. But can you solve this one?
My phone will work almost perfectly on wifi - can browse the web, sync Twitter, etc etc. But if I choose to download an app from the Market, it just sits there on 'Starting Download' for as long as let it. As soon as I switch off wifi and drop to the 3G signal, the download kicks off and works fine.
Hi mate
did you find an answer to this problem???
Uh,
I've got same Problem here.
And Gmails take over WiFi about 15 Minutes sometimes.
I Think, it's the same Problem....
i have the same problem with the market (sometimes) and with gmail. 3g works perfektly.
I have that i have to reboot the phone on my AP at work to get apps downloaded.
As soon as i have rebooted it downloads using Wlan.
did you try that?
Hm,
try to deactivate first Mobile Data, than deactivate WIFI and reactivate Mobile Data. Wait a second and reactivate Wifi.
Thats all ok.
But it's a silly Bug. when I'm at Home, I'm usinf Wifi. If somebody writes me an email and it takes over 20 Minutes to come to my Hero..... noooooo.
Or i must restart the Phone to get my Email? No! Thats very awful and a silly Bug!
I get no problems with email at all, but over the marketplace I haven't been able to find a fix, no.
Marketplace over WiFi
I had this problem and traced it to the port number Marketplace uses for comms. I opened up 5228 on my firewall and it now works as expected.

I've had this problem before, not with the Nexus One. Probably a ROM thing? because I haven't seen that problem lately when using Eclairs @@ While your downloads are frozen, launch GTalk and try to change your status. It will probably say disconnected. Launch it again to connect to GTalk, and then the downloads should resume
I can not even signin to Gtalk, it said " can not connect to server"
The Gmail working OK.

Yeah that's the problem. Launch it again. At least it should re-connect.
If it still doesn't connect, I guess the issue is server-side then.
can signin from the desktop,
do you know how to restart the Nexus One? Should I hold on the power button to restart the phone?
Holding the button can turn the phone off. Haha
I try again after it restart
still can not sign in to Gtalk.
I need go home now, thanks
still not working. does anyone else have this problem?
Do you have an android data plan with T-Mobile? If not have them add it and it should start working.
No, I use Wifi to connect to the internet.
It's the unlock nexus one.
I have a very similar issue. I was able to connect to my WPA2 network once when I first tried, but now I am unable to connect to any wireless network. The Wifi radio is on. When I go to the Wi-Fi settings window under Settings and bring up the menu to select Scan, I don't see any networks display even though I know there are multiple around (and I can see them from my laptop).
Are you still able to connect to your network and view others when you scan? What do you think could be my problem and is there anything else I can try?
yes, it can find and connect to WiFi.
the internet is working, but cannot download.
try turn wifi off, then turn it on again.
sometimes this will work
I also wonder if one could download from Nexus market place applications that was purchased from a non-Nexus market place without being charged again.

Paid apps are linked to the Google account, not the phone. You can download them again.
I ran into two problems:
1. Some paid apps may not be listed in the market for the N1. (a2b is one example.)
2. Some apps may use other licensing or activation techniques that are device-locked. I was unable to activate CoPilot Live due to this. I haven't checked with ALK to see what their policy is on device replacement.
Was there any solution to this ? I just got a Desire and also cannot connect to gtalk or download from market.
I have the same problem on my HTC Hero with market place. Can search and add download but always shows "Starting download" nothing happens other than that. Was working a few hours a go but well doesn't anylonger..All other net apps work such as web browsering messaging and email.
help..

This is a known issue, it's been there at least since Android 1.5. Can't believe Google still didn't fix it. It probably happens more frequently if you switch between 3G network and WLAN, and a lot of users with unlimited data plans don't use WiFi at all. The fix is simple, start Google Talk, press menu, log out, and start Google Talk again.
cuitao, where are you from? What provider are you using (for the Internet connection backing the WLAN)?
Since your only having the trouble on WiFi, have you checked that the ports are open on your router &/or firewall?
Port 5228 for the market - open it, but don't forward it if you have DHCP enabled otherwise if you get a new IP address next time you connect the problem will be back again

[Q] My Quantum's marketplace hates WiFi.

Basically two things going on here. I know the phone can use WiFi just fine (works for data without having a SIM card in the phone), but when trying to use the marketplace, apparently it requires there to be a cellular data connection. Is this a bug or a feature?
Also on a similar note, I've purchased a couple games that are too large to download over the cellular network, and the phone tells me to either connect the phone to WiFi, or connect it to my computer to download the app. When I connect to WiFi, go into the market to start the download, it still tells me I need to connect to WiFi. Plugging it into my computer doesn't really do much other than open Zune, and I can't find a way to redownload purchased apps, it just says I've already bought the app.
Anybody else have similar issues or have any suggestions on how to get around this?
Remove from download and get it again

I had that issue. Once you have bought the app/game, you don't have to pay for it again. Taking this into consideration, you can safely cancel or remove the app from the download list, search for it and hit buy. It will notify you that you have already bought the app, and if you wish to install it again. Agree to do so and it should download fine (over wifi) without any hiccups.
I have installed a couple of apps over zune but it's just way too complicated, really leaving it to chance. Sometimes it'll install, but most times it won't.
Hope this helps.
Hey,
I just picked up a quantum myself and I'm having this exact same problem, I can't download apps through wifi. Mine is not unlocked yet so I haven't had the chance to test it with 3G.
Have you found a fix for it yet?
I've been downloading apps using cellular data...?
However not huge games, just normal apps. Although I tried to download one game last night and it said please connect to wifi, but that's been the only one.
So after using the marketplace app with my cellular data it seems as though I can download apps and games in the marketplace with wifi.
Weird it seems to work normally now.
Maybe there is some sort of authentication step or something that happens once you access the market with your cellular data.
as far as the wifi problems. Its windows... inherently, its still glitchy. Turn it off n right back on n it works for me doing that.
Also as far as apps that say you already have em? Uninstall it, then it will let you do it. delete it and uninstall it. Or worst case, if you REALLY want it, sync, format n resync.

[Q]gmail and market app not working on wifi

Hey guys, I am facing a weird problem after updating an OTA released yesterday by HTC (2.2.1). My gmail app and market app is not working when on wifi. It works perfectly on Mobile data connection though (EDGE). I get a no connection error in gmail and network error in market app.
I have done the following but to no avail.
1. Soft reset and boot into safe mode.
2. Uninstalled task killer app.
3. Deleted all data for these apps and updated the gmail app and setup the account again.
I have not tried the hard reset as yet. Can anyone help me out please? TIA
Thats not good at all. Is your handset branded?
Hey Andy,
Thanks for replying although your reply does make me nervous :s. I am from India and we only get unbranded sets here. So to answer your question it is a unlocked unbranded phone running stock firmware.
By the way after I posted the question I did get these two apps working once for sometime but since then it's the same problem. I am starting to wonder whether it has to do something with the wifi although all the remaining apps are working fine and dandy.
Is the wifi access point owned by you? You could try turning it off and on again, that may help.
Have tried that. It is my home network that I am connecting to using a linksys wireless router.
UPDATE - I connected my phone using internet pass through i.e. sharing the internet through PC via the data cable and I still get the same error which leads me to believe some setting on the router provided by my ISP is causing this. Although what I fail to understand is that it was working fine till yesterday and nothing have been changed in the router setup recently.
Hmm... that's odd. Did your ISP supply your router? My ISP pushed a firmware update to my router about 8 months ago that broke pretty much everything wireless.
Is it just Gmail & Market that don't work over wifi? Does your browser and other apps work?
Yes indeed, my ISP provides a router which is then connected to my wireless router. The strange thing is everything else is pretty much working including gtalk.
If your router supports DMZ and you know how to set it up, you could try putting your DHD's IP into the DMZ to eliminate the possibility of your routers inbuilt firewall blocking Market & GMail.
Maybe a DNS problem? Ensure you have good ones... You can always test Google ones 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4
Thanks for showing interest guys. I for some strange reason cannot access my router settings page. I will figure that out but the stranger things are happening with my apps. After a bit of tinkering I have found a behavior which stumps me.
These are the steps I follow:
1. Sign out from gtalk.
2. Go to manage applications and clear cache and data for gmail, market, download manager, Google backup transport, google partner setup and google services framework.
3. Restart phone.
After this my gmail app starts working on wifi but talk does not start anymore and market also throws an error before even accepting the terms. I uncheck and check the background data services and I am back to square one i.e. gmail stops syncing saying no connection, gtalk works as usual and market starts giving connection error (after accepting terms).
I seriously think now there's a serious flaw in the software and not something to do with my router settings.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.
Simillar problem appeared for me in Locations. I couldn't list country maps for preload on wifi without 3G. After turned on 3G, it listed the maps - turn off - and i could download with wifi.

Semi-protected Wi-Fi - Android 4.3

Hi!
I've update my I9505 to Stock 4.3, with root. I've a problem. I use semi-protected WiFI (like at University) that works as follows : the network is technically open to everyone, free, but for navigate\download\anything, you need to open your browser and enter your credentials.
Android 4.2.2 on my I9505 connected automatically to this network, so I opened a browser and put my credentials.
Since I upgraded to 4.3, my phone connects to the network, then disconnects after a few seconds saying that you must authenticate yourself, then I have to enter settings (making it pointless to activate the wifi with the toggle in the notification bar), i've to reconnect to the network manually, wait about 10 \ 15 seconds, then I can open the stock browser and connect from there (I have to connect when it says so). This even though I do not use the toggle, when I activate the wifi in the settings, it connects, disconnects, and I have to reconnect again.
Now, every time I connect I lose a minute when in fact it took a few seconds before, there is no way to return to the previous behavior? Even with root solution. To read an e-mail I have to wait a minute for the connection...
thanks
Edit: sorry, maybe I had to put this thread on Q&A section, but now I can't move...

Yeah I hate it, the same thing happens on the London Underground wifi. It used to just connect then have the notification telling you you had to log in, which you could then click on. What makes it extra doubly annoying, is that the Underground wifi actually does work for everything apart from HTTP traffic before signing in, so you could just not sign in the whole journey and still get email/whatsapp, but not webpages or facebook etc. Now that it disconnects you I don't get anything till I manually connect it.

To get back to the old behaviour go into Settings->Connections->Wifi - > MENU button ->Advanced and disable "auto network switch"
I found I had to do this to get such networks to work ok, otherwise the wifi network was deactivated

ya that was the first thing I checked, it was already off.
I am also facing this problem. Till now no solution. The "Auto Network Switch" seems to be valid for Mobile Data only...
