Lets say you have a wireless network but do not use DHCP you can change the network settings after you connect to the wireless just press and hold the wireless connection name that you succsesfully connected to and you can edit it.
That's a great little nugget of info. I added it to the wiki and did not give you credit! How's that for a "thanks"? :O)

Hi Everybody!
I'm looking for some help with connecting to my home WiFi.
In settings, netwok card, I can see my home network.
I use a netgear router with WEP security.
I just can't seem to connect and I can't seem how to input my WEP acces passkey too?

First things first, forget the PDA for few moments and lets establish what is going on with your AP. The question that [sYn] has asked is very important - do you have DHCP enabled on the AP. The answer you posted is meaningless as it only shows the options and not the current config. Interrogate the AP and look for where the LAN side DCHP option is and make sure it is set to ENABLE or ON or whatever positive indication is used.
Once you are sure this is configured (ideally tested with a PC) then go get your PDA and try connecting again. If it still doesn't work disable all the security and encryption settings and turn off that stupid MAC address authentication which, by the way, is pointless. If needs be do a factory reset on the AP. With no security enabled try conecting the PDA. It more than likely will connect now. Once it does start building up your security one layer at a time making sure you test at each stage. Can I suggest that you forget WAP and MAC authentication and use a WPA Pre-Shared Key instead as this provides bucket loads more security.

I use a netgear router. Whilst awaiting a reply here I did a bit of research and took of the security of my router. I then connected my device using a shared key (I have always had this) and then put the security back on.
I had to reconnect my laptop too. I think the reason isthat the router was set for an automatic setting and I chaned this to an open system.

From the info that you have given, it looks like your universal is getting an incorrect ip address. What you need to do is check what your desktop ip address and gateway is. Then give your universal and ip in the same range as the desktop ip and also add the gateway to your device. It should wotk this way !
The best option would be to get a wireless access point instead of the wireless network card and set things up like this.

The wireless access point plugges directly into the router rather than connecting through your PC.
If you don't fancy the above setup then you could use internet connection sharing. You'll need to remove the bridge between your network cards and ensure that the router,your PC and friends PC's isn't using 192.168.0.x IP addresses.
Then you can select ICS (tick the allow other computers to access internet...) on your network card's (one to the router) advanced properties and select your wireless NIC as your home network connection.
I hope this isn't too heavy I've resisted the temptation to start talking about subnets, NAT, DHCP and all the other networking terms.

I've got a netopia router (Irish "eircom" broadband) and while normal internet connections via laptop or PC (with USB Wifi dongle) work fine I just can't get my XDA Mini S to actually access the internet. I have managed to actually get it to connect via WIFI however when I launch internet explorer and click on a link it says it can't access using this connection.
"Can't connect with current connection settings. To change you connection settings, tap Settings".
Under connections I'm not sure what to select as I don't believe I need to setup a modem connection or VPN - am I wrong here??
It shows "connected" in the WIFI settings, indicating my SSID etc. Could someone advise me on what else I need to set. Basically I'm obtaining an IP address and my laptop etc work fine, just wondering what more I need to do to bash internet explorer into submission on the XDA. Is is just me or are Microsoft making this very hard on the normal user..

I temporarily disabled WEP for the purposes of simplifying things.
Simple yet very annoying problem:
Go to Settings->connections->connections->advanced->network selection and make sure both combos read 'My ISP'.
Then, when connecting to your WiFi network select 'This network connects to the internet' (as I understand you already have this set under 'network adapters' so it should be ok).

I have a non-nat network in the office. When I want to connect to the wireless I need to manualy enter the IP address in the network adaptor settings.
When I want to connect at home I have to then go back into the network adaptor settings and set to IP address to automatic.
Does anybody know of any software that remembers these settings and can change them depending on what network you want to connect to?

Easy there, you want to enter a fixed IP in your router in the computer? Or you want to select IP in the case of its type in the IP network on your phone?
Depending on the router, it works with DHCP, Auto IP, this is more of the router for WLAN network, it is configured with an IP again, to not be that your network is DHCP, it?
Computer (fixed) -> Router (fixed) + Router (DHCP wlan)

Ja, if your network is DHCP, assigns an IP Auto, and so leave them the phone!
Do not confuse this: If the connection of your home is wireless (radio) you will configure your phone to use the same sign, so you need a wi-fi router
Yes, there is a way to set a static ip on your WM device. All you have to do is go to Settings, Select the Connections tab at the bottom, select WI-FI, Select Network Adapters tab, Make sure "The Internet" is selected from the drop down menu, Select IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible WI-FI Adapter, select Use specific IP Address and fill in the requested info.
I never really thought about it until you asked. i knew there was a way to do it i just never took the time to look at the options.

I'm having trouble understanding your question. the phone doesnt specify the IP, if the router has DHCP enabled, then it'll automatically assign the phone the IP. You want it so that when you're on your WLAN, the IP address is fixed? If that's the case, then go into your router's setting and reserve a specific IP that you want your phone to have. All you have to do is input your phone's MAC address into the router's setting with the desirable IP address. The next time you're on WIFI, your phone will have the IP that you assigned.
