[Q] Dell Streak BETA Unit USA T-mobile. What is the value? - Streak 5 General

I have one of the original BETA units of the Dell Streak that is compatible with T-mobile in the US. Because I have not been able to get the 3G to work consistently (and I lack the time and knowledge to figure out how to root the phone, etc. to try and get around the issue), I have decided to sell it.
I checked out eBay and Craigslist, but I can't find a single beta unit listed for sale.
Question: How much do you guys think this phone might be worth at this point? And can you recommend any good places to sell it online?
Thank you in advance.

in good shape I would say $600, maybe more to the right person, or start at 650. I think factory unlocked is ~$650. I always have great success with craigslist, just inlcude photos, hardware and software screenshots.

I honestly think you need to be around $400.
It's not got a warranty and is "used" regardless of condition.
I'd pay extra for new... thats why I say $400.

If the phone was fully warranted by Dell and you could verify that 3G on TMobile worked properly, you could ask a pretty penny for it...

If you can post a video for potential buyers to view showing that 3G is capable on T-Mo bandwidths then it should be worth quite a bit. New or not.
Just aslong as it is in like new condition.
There are many T-Mo users who would like a streak, but it is non-compatible with their 3G bands.

you have to jump through a bunch of hoops with the t-mobile technical support before they will unblock the imei or else you'd be stuck with the webconnect $40/month internet plan.
if you're willing, i have an at&t unlocked engineering streak i'd trade with you. i believe someone on modaco sold a tmobile streak for $500 more than a month back.

A few questions about the HTC Legend from a Dream owner

hey guys, i currently have an htc dream. I am on fido
I am thinking about a new phone and the legend comes up as an option.
1) I read that i can get a legend for $400 from bell or $350 from virgin.
I looked around at virgin's website and i could only find an option to buy the legend for $350+ a 30 day plan (the cheapest brings the price to $350+$25)
is there any way to get it at $350 with no contract? am i overlooking anything?
2) does the virgin phone work on the same network as fido/rogers? will it work?
3) if answer to #2 is yes, would i need to get it unlocked even though i bought it outright?
4) What regrets do you have with buying this phone (everyone has regrets about every phone)

To answer your questions:
1) YMMV as some people have been able to get it for $349.99 without activating. But technically it's supposed to be $349.99 on a 30 day plan at the very least. So if you don't have a Virgin plan already, they may require you to sign up for a plan. $35 activation fee and the lowest plan is $25.
2) Yes the Virgin Mobile HTC Legend is model A6365 which is the North American version that will utilize HSPA 3G 850/1900 on all the major Canadian carriers, sans Wind.
3) Yes you will need to get it unlocked if you are planning on using it on a network other than Virgin Mobile. I got mine unlocked from MobileInCanada.com for $20 no problems.
4) No regrets about buying this phone. I sold my X10 because it was too big for my liking and it felt cheap with a creaky battery case. I love the build quality on the Legend and it is the most SOLID phone I've ever used in a great form factor. I don't mind the lower specs because I'm not a power user and it does everything I want without lag. The only quirk I don't like is the lack of bluetooth voice dialing (missing in Android 2.1) but I'm hoping for an update.

thanks a lot for the reply, unfortunately for me, i do not have a virgin account. This means that it would cost me $447 to get one and get it unlocked, thats edging very close to the price of an n1. Of course this would be a lot cheaper if you are a virgin user.
I think the thing that sets it apart from the N1 (amongst other phones) is the superb build quality and form factor. It really is a thing of beauty!

yeah, it definitely LOOKS both beautiful and solid, my dream definitely doesnt feel so solid.
The way i see it is that the only way i would get one of these would be if there is someone in the lowermainland area in BC with virgin who could buy it for me, and have me pay them.
a guy told me that he called his local Future Shop they said they would sell the Virgin mobile Legend with no need to activate or buy a month's plan. I don't know for sure, but you could try going to your local Future Shop and see what they say. Unlocking can be done for $10 at cellunlock.net with coupon code crackb50.
I think that The Source is also selling (Bell+Virgin) phones without activation.
I picked a Legend up at a Virgin Mobile kiosk, no Virgin account and no need to activate anything. It is quite YMMV, but you just have to try around, and usually you'll find a place that'll sell it outright for $350+tax. I unlocked it at cellunlock.net for $10 with the 'crackb' code as mentioned by echow and am currently using it on Rogers (3G).
It's a beautiful device. I thought the Bold 9000 I had was well built, but this thing is in another league. I also have an HD2, and while the large screen is absolutely fantastic, Android plus the smaller form factor simply make more sense sometimes. Plus, the MSM7227 is quite a significant upgrade from the Dream's MSM720x(A). You get VFP and the Adreno 200 GPU, which were two big features of Snapdragon.

Unlocked X10a

It seems that the majority of X10's in the market seem to be the X10i variant, however I am trying to locate the X10a, so I can use it with AT&T 3G.
I found a few small retailer sites that do say they offer the x10a, but seeing as they aren't exactly the most reputable of online stores, I am a bit hesitant to order.
Has anyone found unlocked X10a's sold directly from SE? Or is my only option to get one from a wireless provider outside the US that supports AT&T 3G bands such as Rogers?
Yup, or from a Canadian/US seller on Ebay, or from a Canadian friend who owes you a big favor.
go to amazon and search "xperia x10a" there is one that is 564.99. it doesnt say which bands are on it, the others that come up with the search all say 900/1700/2100. you might could call the seller or amazon and see if it is the x10a or x10i. they should be able to look at the box and tell you.
cant find anywhere other than that possibility. I bought one off of ebay. most expensive thing i have ever bought on ebay, scared me to death, but everything turned out fine. just look for a reputable seller on ebay with lots of positive feedback, use paypal, hope for the best.
i can say this, i love this phone, also using it on ATT. with the rumors that ATT are forcing nexus one users to use the $30 data plan instead of the $15 ($10 on family plan), i couldnt come up with a better android phone to use on ATT.
i can unlock x10
hi everyone, i can unlock x10 via code. email me at [email protected] and include your contact number.
just wait, X10 is coming to AT&T.
Thanks for the input guys.
I've found a site that sells it for about $614 and free shipping. They accept Paypal payments, so at least I feel a little safer with their buyer protection. I'll let you guys know when/if I receive the correct product.
As for waiting for AT&T to start carrying the X10, that's not an option for me for a few reasons. First, my N97 is on it's way out. It's beginning to seem really sluggish and the slide lock key fell off... Second is that I have the unlimited data plan, and would not like to be forced to downgrade to their 2GB data cap. Lastly, after hearing how AT&T is locking down some aspects of their Android software such as in the HTC Aria, I would rather not let them get their hands on my phone.

I don't believe it will.
I remember reading this about eight months ago and now with the Samsung Captivate headed there I can't see them bringing in the X10.

Ouch, rogers quoted me 499 plus
Just posting a follow up.
I received my X10 last night, only took about a week, i suspect had i ordered the phone on monday morning instead of night, I would have had it by Friday.
I did receive an X10a, but it was a Rogers branded phone, already sim-unlocked.
If anyone wants the seller information so they can order it for themselves, pm me.
Just curious, but how could you tell it was rogers branded? Was there a rogers startup screen, or rogers apps somewhere, or physical rogers logo on the phone exterior or something? The reason i ask is because i bought mine used on ebay, and when i popped my att sim in and powered up, there was never any hint that it had anything to do with rogers, or any other carrier. I have just always wondered if there was some way to figure out where the phone originated from. I checked th service info or system info or whateverr from the secret menu, but all it said was custom. Anyway, glad you got your hands on one. I got it as my first android phone, came from a nokia n95, and overall have been pleased with it. Certain things i miss, but the goods have definitely outweighed the bads.

Yup, there is a Rogers screen after the initial Sony Ericsson screen. Also, there are a couple of Rogers apps, the moxier apps.
Most important, whether Rogers or stock, if it is a X10a, it should say so under settings -about phone -model number - x10a.
Oh, it is definitely an x10a, came in a sony ericsson box with x10a on the barcode and everything, and in the device info is listed as an x10a, has the att 3g bands and works fine. I have just been curious since I got it if it originally came from a wireless carrier in another country. When I bought the thing, I thought that the only x10a models that were made were made for rogers, i wasnt aware that they even made a generic, factory unlocked, unbranded version of the x10a.
btw, i believe moxier apps are standard on all xperia x10's, regardless of i or a designation, or carrier branding.
Yeah, the Rogers carrier logo on boot was the dead giveaway for me. Also the fact that I couldn't manually change configure the AT&T apn until I unbranded it.
I am pleasantly surprised by the speed of the X10 though. It puts my hd2 to shame.

Buy the Focus from AT&T, use on T-Mobile?

Currently I am in the market for a new WP7 phone, and the Focus seems to be the best one out there for my needs. I don't want a keyboard, the screen is great, and I think it's a good device.
Problem is, that I am on T-Mobile and the Focus isn't available there.
Any ideas on how I can get an unlocked Focus in the US? I don't mind paying full price for it, as I've got a Samsung Galaxy S (Unlocked) to sell when I get the new phone.
Thanks!
According to this post, Samsung tech support can provide an unlock code.
Only issue is of course, that the 3G won't work as I learned in another thread.
Kind of a moot point. I'm going with the HTC HD7. I was thinking about the Dell Venue Pro, but it's not out yet, and they have no real history of making phones so I'll just opt to get the one I want.
Actually, Dell VP was available in select MS stores. Should be available online at Dell site on 15th as well.
Not to mention, the VP is suppose to be an awesome phone.

Beta streak woes

Well I have been reading on the blogs that dell will be selling unlocked streaks with froyo.....but I just bought a beta streak on eBay..(jumped the gun on it too soon i guess)..so I am wondering what are some limitations with using a beta streak....is it worthless now....should I sell it? I do not really need to have at&t cause i just plan to use it as a data and multimedia device.....any help or tips will be helpful.

As far as I know the only downside (as long as there's nothing wrong with the one you buy) is that the 3g/mobile side has been disabled by AT&T. I believe that you can use it on some other networks if it's been unlocked and of course wifi works.
Since beta Streaks are not meant to be sold on, a possible problem may come later for you if Dell decide to deactivate them.
I am in the same situation like you. Just purchased one which has lable called Engineering Sample. It works with AT&T sim card, but has no idea about 3G because
I never subscribe data plan.
It has Android 1.6.
No warranty on anything, don't even call Dell. spare parts are on you, as well as fixing it. You fugg it, you fix it or sell it to the community If you're on T-mo then you won't have 3G unless you get a unicorn like Streak AWS version, and what was previously mentioned, not working on AT&T, besides that you get Steve's Froyo on it and you have a marvelous piece of equipment.
my buddies and I all have the Streak here before it got release here in Canada....not a single problem with it.
Beta Streak here, been using for 4 or 5 months now, no problems whatsoever except for the silver Dell logo on back coming unglued and coming off.
Running Steve's 1.4.6 now, the O2 2.1 before that. Great piece of kit. *knocks on wood* Been using on TMO US the whole time. I love it!
Wow glad to hear that I got some good feedback can't wait till mine comes in but I am kind of wondering will my rebel sim do anything with this dell streak I'm guessing since my beta streak is unlocked I kind of have no use for the rebel sim now

Considering DVP from Samsung Captivate

Hey guys,
I remember checking out the DVP a while ago and pretty much forgot about it up until the other day. Im really liking where windows is going with their mobile os so im considering the switch from my samsung captivate. I was checking on dell's website, and you can get the unlocked AT&T 3G version for $300, which i think is a pretty great deal.
My only questions are there any issues i should be aware of before i purchase one? also i live in canada so i will be running it on the Rogers network.. will everything pretty well work with me being in canada (like gps, apps, etc..)?
Any feedback is apprecaited! thanks
dvp is a great phone and the best one hands down if you need a keyboard.
But wait.. see what phones are coming. You should see the HTC ones offered in a few days.
HTC Omega (Eternity) with 4.7" screen... DNLA, AOLED (i don't want it if it is LCD) ..
i WAS waiting for the searay.. but that screen is to small.
I'm definitely looking for something with the keyboard as well. I personally love the look of the dvp. I know there was talk of the dell wrigley coming out.. But I don't know if it will be anytime soon. So I'm thinking if I sell my captivate I can afford this. Only other question I have is that there will for sure be the mango update for the phone right?
also is anyone interested in selling their at&t version of the phone? i thought i could get it of the dell ebay site using my canadian paypal account with an american shipping address but it wouldn't let me. so my only resort right now is to get it off ebay, or even here. in canada i need it for rogers, which is the same frequency as at&t
yes there is mango for the phone.. i'd bet everyone that reads this sub forum already has it on their phone.
why can't you get it from ebay? it doesn't ship to you guys up north? get it from dell's web site then.
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/mobile-venue-pro/fs
i managed to get it off dell.com this morning, but after some dealing with customer service. because its not offered on dell.ca right now, i had to use my credit card with a US shipping and billing address of where i was going to pick up the item, then contact the dell credit card verification centre, and tell them why the info i provided for my billing address wouldn't match the database. so it ended up working out in the end. and to me, $300 for a brand new phone, unlocked, and not contract.. seems like a steal.
so before i get receive the phone, does anyone have any tips or directions to point me? im going to give this thread a read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178338 and hopefully try to jump into getting mango on it ASAP. does anyone know what os version it ships with right now?
