[Q] Did anyone backup their stock tmo rom before deleting bloatware? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, first post -been a long time lurker
Rooted my mytouch and went along uninstalling bloatware using titanium backup, wanted to reinstall a few of the programs and found that I can't.
I really would just like to restore the factory rom on it, did anyone make a copy that I could download?
Thanks

You'll probably need to wait until Clockworkmod gets ported, that way you can restore from a nandroid backup. Alternatively, you should be able to get to recovery and restore back to factory from there. Easiest way to do that is to open up adb and run adb reboot recovery. If the option to restore isn't there, turn off fast boot in options and then power off the phone. Hold volume down and power at the same time until a menu with a few options comes up. Press the volume down button until you get to factory reset and then press the power button to confirm the selection.

You should be able to just through this mofo on there...

Thanks for the suggestions, nothing has helped so far. I was able to restore the phone, but the system apps that I deleted are permanently gone. Thats what I'm looking for...
I downloaded the "stock" tmo rom from the other thread and tried to install it from rom manager with no success. When I'm in recovery, I get the error can't read zip file when I try to apply the stock rom.
So, any other suggestions?
Thx

Only thing I can think of is you're gonna have to wait for a stock nandroid backup to be posted.

Any luck? There are a few people over on the dev board stating future updates may not work without some of the bloatware crap (per their experience on a MT3G), so I'd like to know how you pulled this off if I have to go that route in the future.

You can try this to go back to complete stock.

Thats exactly what I ended up doing. I was running 2.2.1 and had the phone rooted and was able to restore it to stock 2.2.
Worked great, Thanks!

Can someone post the swype apk from this rom? I backed it up in titanium, but it won't restore

Bricked Vibrant, Assistance greatly appreciated

Hi all,
Sot of new to modding, think I screwed up and could use some help. Was doing this one click speed fix: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7587405&postcount=417
It didn't appear to work the first time, as I received a message and exited the application, however the symbol was still in the notification bar. Re-ran it, and it seemed to have worked, mostly, as the phone was blazing fast. Went immediately to run quadrant and check the benchmark, but it force closed every time it hit the i/o section. tried to go to market, foreclose every time. Figured it may need a reboot, powered off, and that's was all she wrote.
I can get into the battery charging screen and have been able to get to recovery, but nothing else. I haven't used adb or ODIN at all yet, but any assistance is greatly appreciated.
The phone was already rooted, and i have titanium back up and nandroid backups, but don't really know how to get to them.
If you did a nandroid backup, just go in recovery screen and restore backup. If not, flash back to stock rom.
well maybe i dont know what im talking about then. I guess I thought i did a nandroid.
When i go into recovery i get four options: reboot system now, reinstall packages, clear all user data, clear cache data.
none of them work
Did you install clock work recovery via Rom manager?
well it has turned on now. removed sim and memory card and hit reinstall packages. ive got the standard twlauncher running but, it repeatedly gives me force close notifications that android.process.media has stopped and i cannot access the menu

yes, i did. i remember doing that precisely as shown in your tips and tricks thread
alright, so i got it into download mode, gonna reflash everything to stock and see where i went wrong as outlined here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Will update with results, but would be nice to figure out where i went wrong so as not to repeat the error.
If you can get into recovery just wipe and reflash eugenes vibrant4.zip.
Alright, back to stock. unrooted also? gonna mess some more and see if i can get my clockword recovery to restore everything.
okay, so my theory is that the lag fix i used installed an update.zip that overwrote the clockword mod one. Now im just trying to restore using titanium backup, but it is telling me that it doesnt have root access. i know im rooted, as i just did it and reinstalled rom manager and drocap. hmmmmm.....
Thats not all thats funny. i cant find the superuser app anywhere on here. also, i cannot install one from the market.
and im having issues with root explorer.

I would re-root and then follow the flash the ROM mentioned above. There is a thread in the DEV forum.

You need to root again to get the superuser on your phone. As for the one click lag fix, I used to original method and it went pretty well. No problems so far. I also flashed Vibrant4 by Eugene before doing the lag fix. Hope it helps
same thing happened to me. I'm stuck on the galaxy S boot screen. i can get into the samsung recovery screen but not the clockwork recovery. I backed up my nandroid and Rom but don't know how to get into the menu to restore. I only have the update.zip for the lag fix on the internal sd so can't restore that way. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

There may be other ways around it, but I restored fully to stock, then re-rooted. I'm back up and running no problem now. Had some issues with titanium backup but got around that and its batch restoring as i type.

Would you mind saying how you did that?
I tried wiping and flashing the stock via renaming it update.zip, and I'm still getting FC city. Mostly media, but, calendar, everything. I'm going to post a link to this in that thread, since many, it seems, were left hanging in a boot loop.

Just follow what I did through the thread.
I did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 to get back to complete stock, then i had to root it twice. Once did the one click, then the good root here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7150299&postcount=1
back up and running. had to research about titanium backup to get it up and running. I want to do the lag fix still, but im nervous from before.
Your nervous? I really would like to do this but i'm scared (cuss)less.
I've read what needs to be done and think that I've figured it out.
(pretty new to droid)... but, have also read the horror stories here
about bricking your phone...which nowadays can happen to any
phone you have....don't get me started on the apple pie!
But, really when it gets a simple as installing an .APK I'll be happy.

The galaxy s seems pretty hard to brick. I'd say just go for the lag fix. Worse thing that happens is you have to take like 15min to download and use odin to reflash to stock. The lag fix seems pretty safe as long as you stay rooted

Vibrant Recovery Mode HowTo
THIS GUIDE WORKED ON USA T-MOBILE SAMSUNG VIBRANT BUT MAY VERY WELL WORK ON ALL SAMSUNG GALAXYS PHONES
After reading many XDA-Developers Forum Posts to try and figure out how to get into the Recovery Mode / Download Mode without any success, I gave T-Mobile Support a call.
After the usual noop run-down, "did you take the battery out" questions, I simply asked them how to get the Samsung Vibrant into recovery mode.
Unline the many tutorials that claim to require the Up or Down button pressed, along with the Home button then the Power, the true process is as follows:
1. Press the Up and the Down button at the same time (yes both). I too thought that button was a Toggle which only did either Up or Down, but found that in fact it does do both.
2. At the same time, press the power button.
3. As soon as the Samsung / Vibrant logo comes up on the screen, release the power button.
4. Release the Up and Down buttons.
5. PRESTO

[REQ] Nandroid Restore Zip

I have perm root with S OFF but have come in to quite a problem. I am having problems with the screen flickering on and off and need to exchange the device. The problem is, the nandroid backup that I made is inaccessible, and I have removed most of the stock apps off the phone.
The SD card I created the backup on seems to be corrupt, I cant even get it to mount anymore on my PC. Is there anyone that created a full nandroid back that can point me to the file (be willing to share)?
I have searched everywhere and can't seem to locate one.
Thanks for the help!
why don't you just use the "Downgrade ROM and Radio from OTA to Stock" thread?
Edit: Oh, and this is the wrong place for your thread also. Prob should go in general or Q&A.
The downgrade rom won't work w/ S-Off I don't believe. I would also a appriciate a nand backup, just the system.img if anyone has one to share.

Also, the OTA update will not be received again if you do the downgrade.

Are you asking for a NAND backup of the 2.2.1 stock rom?
If so, I'll see if I can't make one for you tonight when I get home. My work's internet connection is pretty crappy and it would take forever and a day to upload.

Take a look at this thread. It has the link to the official RUU and the install instructions.
This should get you back to stock, although I have not tried it yet. I grabbed it just in case I would need it.

And as mentioned in that thread, nobody who has followed that process has received the OTA update after having reverted back to stock.

unremarked - If you could upload the NAND backup that would be great. Thanks in advance!
As you should know if he's returning his phone he doesn't need to receive the OTA anymore. Just follow that thread. I had a rooted white one restored and took it back to get a black one. That's much easier then trying to use someone else's backup.

He said he was returning the phone, so receiving the OTA is not really necessary.
Those instructions explain how to get it back to stock, as requested.
OEM stock is 2.2. Post first OTA update is 2.2.1
I would not mind getting a hold of that, as it would make it easier to possible get the 2nd OTA (about which I have read nothing about what it does).
Also wondering if anyone has lost root and rerooted after the 2nd update.
So I am absolutely fail.
On my first device, I guess I had just froze the bloatware apps rather than deleted them because they were restored after a factory reset before I returned it to the store.
On this one, I actually deleted the bloatware apps and they are permanently gone, factory reset doesn't bring them back, and I didn't do a Titanium backup until after I had deleted them off. ><

I actually need a 2.2.1 nandroid as well. Could someone please post one?

New flashing rom

If I flash a new rom using rom manager will the previous one be gone? I want no part of what I have right now if I go to another rom
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it will be gone as far as use but if you want to delete it you'll have to do so manually

Yeah what I mean is I'm running Axura right now and if I went to another rom I don't want that new rom being bugged and looking like auxura will that happen?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Odin back to stock before flashing another rom that's the best way to make sure nothing is left over I always flash fresh from stock and I don't have any problems also if you have voodoo installed make sure you dissable it before anything else cause your going to have a headache trying to remedy that situation
Runnin nero+dow+oclf
odin is not necessary. all the roms for the vibrant wipe system and data, so flashing with clockwork is good enough.
however, undo lagfixes. some cause problems if not disabled, others don't.
Got it! Thanks
I am unable to flash a different rom over Axura??? i have no lag-fixs. When i go through rom manager, it just reboots the system still in axura? Im stumped and would appreciate any help.

You need to flash clockwork recovery from rom manager then do it and on the recovery mode if it doesn't do it auto click reinstall package
i will try that, thankyou very much; however my newest problem is that i cannot put the rom on my phone. when i try to copy from my computer and paste to phone, i get "Cannot copy BionixFinal_R1_Stock: The parameter is incorrect" wft is that!? lol
Umm when you do that do you mount your phone and if you have titanium backup when you go on your computer do you see that titanium backup is there as a folder?
if you put it where titanium backup folder isn't your putting it on te external part and then it wont work.
Besides that it might be your computers problem search that error in Google without the bonix part

[Q] Restoring phones original software?

How do I restore my phone so that the original software it came with is back on? I accidentally removed the Facebook App the is equipped with the phone when I was supposed to remove "Facebook for Android". Now under accounts & sync I no longer see Facebook. I already tried volume down + power button factory restore and a factory reset in the settings. It didn't come back.
My phone is rooted running 2.2.1. Mytouch 4g.
flash the RUU in the downgrading post in dev section... but I dunno if you will get 2.2.1... quickly at least or get someone to pull the app and upload it for you

Actually my girlfriend has the same phone. How exactly do I copy the app off her phone and load it into mine? Is there a guide?
Will her phone also have to be rooted?
Follow this guide read the section to revert ,it will put your phone back the way it came from then root your phone again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Just download any "stock" or "stock-based" rom, extract facebook out of it and push to /system/app/ with ADB. There's no need to re-flash/re-root/re-mess with it anymore just because one app taken out.
And, seriously, /system/app space is wasted, you can't put your downloaded apps in there so why is everyone deleting system apps instead of freezing them (pm disable function)? It is so much easier with Titanium back-up app and, if later you decide to use it again, you can go back and unfreeze it again without going through these pains.
Good luck.

Return to stock

I would like to return to full stock but keep my phone rooted.
Is there a stock Rom that's already rooted and that I can flash in recovery 2.5.x
I really don't want to flash the stock image then re root my phone.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
The only way I know of would leave you requiring to re-root again, but i think S stays off, so you only need to run visionary.
put this file on the root of your sd card. Power off the phone. then press the power button and volume down.
let it do its thing, and you'll be stock.
I get a PD15IMG.zip "no image" and a "wrong image"?
Try this one
Much appreciated but the results are the same.
does the PD15IMG file restore everything to stock or just the rom?
does it also restore the recovery to stock?

Sorry. I've never seen a case where that file wouldn't restore a phone. Maybe someone else will come along with a better idea.
There's not much pleasure in being the first in this case!
See my thread "Is it a brick? Or can I fix it?"
I'm afraid it's a brick.... It boots up and runs but I can't get apps, no Gmail, etc. and I can't go back or flash any other ROM. I sure wish I knew what I'd done...
Start from the beginning. What has been done?
Thanks for the link. I was thinking that I had a brick for a while there. The file on the root took everything back to stock.
Just for future reference I'm pretty sure there is a stock cwr backup somewhere in these forums. Believe its labeled stock nandroid.
