I think that's just the camera doing it. It's like you taking a vid of computer monitor there will be lines but not visible to human eyes. For the desire, it's an amoled display so it's a different technology. This is what I think.
If you look at the screen with your eyes, you should have no problem. However, if you can see the screen flickering like that with your eyes, then it could be the hardware

I had the white fleck beneath the screen that looks like
First youtube link
0.09 near the top
There was two white fleck on my second DHD and it seems like a production issue, I would recommend getting a exchange...

Cold/warm/blue/blurry screen ?

Now this has always been a concern for HTC devices. Some of them have cold/blue screens, others warm screens and even some screens are kind of blurry compared to other ones. Can someone clear this thing a bit? What regions get what screens? Isn't there a way to fix the bad ones through software? etc...
I ask this coz I've seen a lot of Leos in these videos witch have blue screens and I really fear I may get one of them
Links to these vids?
That depends on the video camrea those videos were recorded. Bad video camera = HD2 screen seems blue and blurry.
Wel iam sure thats not the point. I have TP and my friend have HD. And in comparison, his screen really feel blue. You know, the color are just more blueish (oO,). Its kinda disturbing if you ask me. But my friend dont mind. SO any1 know if its just us or there is something with screens?
In videos were there's only one phone you could say the white balance or some other setting is problematic in the camera. As for HD2 I've seen a video where there are both a Touch Pro 2 and a Hero next to it so it can't be the camera. Link to that video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFtqsrbsHzY&feature=player_embedded
Aside from HD2, I've seen it myself on old blue angels (even from the same manufacturer- imate) and also the new Touch HD.
Even now, some diamond 2s have warmer screens than others which makes the whites a bit yellow

HD2 Touch Screen Dot Grid

Hello,
I have bought an HTC HD2 but I have noticed a grid of dots on the screen. (The dots are also visible when the phone is turned off)
They are visible under different angles especially in white background.
Sometimes it gives the impression of missing pixels but only under particular angles.
Is this normal or my is something wrong with my phone?
Thanks
I observe the same thing on my phone...I don't know what they are (would like to...hint hint) but I assume that they're normal...
...I saw an article that commented on them published some time ago (pre-release) which only furthers this belief.
I would say that you can see a "net" pattern on the screen, when you have light on it. But I would not describe it as dots.
Try to look at another phone, perhaps in a store or something to compare.

They're part of the mechanics of the capacitive screen. As far as I'm aware, they distribute the field over the screen that is needed to detect finger touches.
If it's ridiculously noticable then I suppose it could become a problem, but I only see it, ironically, when I browse this site. I suppose it's the colour of the site makes it more noticable.
Anyway, there's other threads where people have asked the same question, and like I said, it's totally normal to see it a bit.
Thanks for the answers
I will try to see other HTC HD2 to compare.
By the way, does iPhone has the same grid ? Because iPhone has capacitive screen as well as HTC HD2.

Yes, it does. They're apparently more noticable around the edges of the screen.
It's hardly noticeable on iPhone than compared to HD2. This question is actually on the user guide and they said it's for the capacitve screen to function properly.

The iPhone and HD2 screens can't be the exact same because Apple has patents on pretty much every technology in the iPhone so they would have to manufacture if differently.

I only ever see the dots when my screen is off, so they don't bother me -- I actually think it's kind of cool.
I've seen the dots too. But only when the screen is off, and then only certain lighting conditions.

Screen is very pixelated!!!

Wow, just got my Vibrant this morning and was expecting to really be blown away by this screen, so far I am not impressed. My HD2 screen was far better than this. Everything is just VERY pixelated. Is this normal???
Well if you think the HD2 looks better id say no, something might be wrong.
The diffrence from LCD and OLED is night and day
You have a decent camera? If so take a pic with a so we can see

QQ
just return it, and get a G2....
and save us from the QQ
the galaxy s screen does seem to have large gaps between pixels
Im not QQ'ing. But its all I heard was how awesome the screen was on this phone. Either way, love the phone so far.

Hmm... What is your comparison, save for the HD2?
What images/graphics/etc are you using for your tests?
1quickturbosix, you are right the AMOLED screen on the Vibrant is not as sharp as an LCD screen of the same resolution, this is due to the pentile matrix arrangement of the sub pixels that Samsung uses on their AMOLED displays. However the AMOLED screen on the Vibrant does beat the pants off of LCD when it comes to contrast, black level, motion resolution, and color saturation. I had an HD2 before the Vibrant and the effective resolution difference was obvious, especially with small text, but I've gotten used to it.
There was a really good article explaining the differences between LCD and AMOLED displays posted here a while back, I'll post it if I can find it.
I also want to mention that the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones have the best touch sensitivty out there, even better than the mighty iPhone4, due to the fact that the SAMOLED screen incorporates the digitizer where on LCD screes it would be two separate pieces.

yeah this video made a lot of jaws drop. thanks to [whoever] did the encoding to fit our screen.
In general the AMOLED screens don't render text as well as LCDs, but images are better. I do notice pixellation in text when zoomed way out, but I generally try not to read tiny text.

true true. good thing having better images far outweigh trying to read anything at 5pt font.

Amoled or super lcd?

I heard that only at first Htc used Amoled display for Legend, and later on Super lcd. How to check the type of our scrren (display)?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
read the specs on back of the white box the legend was in
I just know about AMOLED Devices.
The switch from AMOLED to SuperLCD has been done at the Desire and as far as I know not on the Legend
I am very satisfied with display on Legend. Is there any significant difference (better or worse) with S-LCD?
well i compared it with a SLCD htc desire and i think the AMOLED is much better
Legend only uses AMOLED anyway, don't worry about it
S-LCD almost the same that amoled, only maybe contrast have some little difference
if i'm not mistaken
s-lcd
Super LCD is much nice when reading text and websites AMOLED is better for watching video,
SLCD is much sharper but isnt stand out bright and over saturated like AMOLED which is fuzzy and soft around sharp corners like text
look here and it shows you actual pictures were you can see the difference

Note though that the Desire AMOLED had a PenTile arrangement which seems to account for the marked difference in the shift to SLCD. The Legend's AMOLED screen uses a conventional RGB arrangement so probably wouldn't have suffered the same comparisons had it also moved to SLCD.
This page has a good breakdown of the differences.
http://jtra.cz/stuff/android/htc/desire-vs-legend/display/index.html
Yes, you are all right. I have bought desire z and I can see the difference. S-lcd is much sharper, but amoled has much better contrast - black is really black
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Some webshops often say that the black HTC legend is equiped with LCD and the silver one with AMOLED. My collegue has a black one, I have a silver one and both have amoled.
You can easily see the difference when you tilt them. Amoled's colors almost don't change (even if you're almost at 180°), LCD's colors go weird...

Oh, Thanks ! Is that the simple way to tell ?
My new Virgin Mobile Canada Legend's box says AMOLED but I think the box is lying. Wonder if I can sue somebody, LOL, jk. I guess HTC may be at partial fault too since their spec page claims AMOLED: http://www.htc.com/www/product/legend/specification.html
I recall some article quoting an HTC rep saying the "backward" move to LCD would save power, but then tests (and common tech sense?) showed that was a lie. I originally was disappointed at the loss of AMOLED, but from what I've read though, I'd prefer LCD if given the choice, simply due to the better legibility. On the down side, LCD takes more power, doesn't have the deeper blacks and colors, and may be a bit harder to see in the bright outdoors.
Bell supposedly dropped the Legend because of the AMOLED supply issue. AFAIK all of the later (after last summer or there-abouts ?) Legends are LCD. Would be nice if we could tell via serial numbers or something.
My Legend's colors start going weird somewhere around 170 degrees or so (just a rough guess). So I guess I have LCD ?
You could also take a cheap microscope and look at the screen. The difference is startling. Amoled will be made up of a lot of lines, more red than blue (I think). LCD would look completely different

With the screen on and white, right ? I tried this with a jewelers loupe and see lines about twice as high vertically as horizontaly (with the phone speaker up and mike down). It looks like there are thin red lines and thicker green lines that are somewhat blue-ish.
Would there be any difference in device drivers loaded ? I see a driver in dmesg with "oled" in the name.
This microscope diagnostic method will not work on Legend and it has an RGB matrix - the Desire LED had pentile matrix.
All you have to do is display a mostly black screen (the android settings menu is a good example), find a dark environment and look at the display. An SLCD will seep light from black areas where an LED will be an almost perfect black.

i have legend with amoled my friend have desire (i guess it lcd)
i can notice his display has slight better screen in the menu like smoother or something but on the legend view aspect is higher than on the desire....
both of them are good

[Q] HTC HD2 Screen question

So what is all that talk about pixels ? I've just seen a video review of the HTC Titan, and the reviewer said that if you move in really close you can see pixelated text and images...I don't...and that an HD2 which is considerably older.
Is this something new devices have? Like a worse pixel density or something?
not really , although different manufacturing techniques create different separation masks between pixels.
If you look close enough every screen known to man has some visible issues.
Just stand real close to a plasma or LED TV and you will see the pixels.
Of course when viewing at a reasonably distance this isn't an issue.
Some reviewers are stuck for things to say so make stuff up.
Looking that close at a screen then commenting, is like putting your nose next to a car exhaust then saying it smells funny. True in essence but a totally useless piece of information

What he said, plus you have to remember that the Titan has a far larger screen than the HD2 so it will obviously be easier to see the pixels.
Ah I see, nitpicking at its finest.
And I was thinking that there's no point of having any other smartphone after the HD2 since most of them have these weird "problems" with pixel density and battery life.
Not listening to any reviewer again that's for sure. lol

best advice...read reviews from "experts" but do your own review.
