How do I change my primary google account? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to make/change my gmail email address, but I want all my contacts and stuff to sync to that new one. Also for that email to be primary that I will use to sign in to other Android phones. Thanks in advance.

U would have to go to gmail.com make a backup of your contacts. Create a new gmail. Import your contacts to that one. Add the account to your phone, delete the old one

linked contacts not sending

Ok I have a gmail user linked to a Facebook user. I didn't have this user in gmail so I created a shell (just the name). When linked the gmail user with the Facebook user I see one contact with cell pic act in my contact list. Great... but when if go to Google the contact still only has a name and noting else.
So, my question is how do I sync Facebook info with gmail?
Thank

Are you asking about exporting Facebook Friend contact data and importing that to a Google contact? Using your phone? I really don't think you can. Facebook Contacts friends details are not able to be exported, at least not using HTC contacts or MMS. The HTC people app is not designed to function like that, by populating one account with data from another account. It would be nice if it did have sine sort of sending out contact details. You could send contact data as a vcard to your gmail address and import using the website. But Facebook details don't populate to the vcard. I would like to be able to import more details into my Google contacts, but using my phones phone books other account types is not the way to go.

First let me say thanks for the response. And yes I wanted to sync the info in my phone (from Facebook) with my Google contacts. That makes me a little sad since it appears that Facebook and this phone work great together.
Well maybe one day.
Thanks again,

Fastest way to import phone numbers?

Is there any way to import phone numbers quickly, such as a copy and paste from the computer if possible, from an older phone?
I have a bunch of numbers from my razr2 that I would like to stick onto the vibrant, and if there is an easier way I'd rather do that than mess with the razr2's messed up capacitive buttons.
Sim card?.....
Sync your number from razer to outlook or outlook express. Then import it to your gmail contact. You should create a new group in contacts to keep it organized. Once logged in on your phone it will sync all automatically.

woops, didn't realize it was that easy. i apologize for the silly question.
is it ideal to put numbers on a sim or straight into the phone? this is with a 2year contract from tmobile.
Phone is better because there are certain features that will only work with the number on the phone.

What features only work with the numbers on the phone? 2.2 made it so you could assign custom ringtones w.o saving the number to the phone.

Well, I have sent contacts as vcard (via bluetooth) from SE phone to Samsung Vibrant, every number/e-mail/adress is in a right place.
Quick and safe
I can say it would be a good idea to have all your contacts backed up on gmail as well. I've had sim cards go bad, so if it does, you just lost your contacts. I'm not sure how the razor sync's contacts, but if you can sync with outlook, it's really easy to get them to gmail. You basically backup your contacts to a file, then go to gmail and import that file. Trust me, having them on gmail will make it easier on you. If you were to change any numbers, it will auto sync with gmail, and if you get a new phone, (android), all your numbers will sync automatically through gmail.
+1 its like magic

Very good explanation. Thanks.
+1 for Google Contact sync. It also allows you to export in csv format so you can easily sync those contacts with other applications as well. Not to mention a web interface for editing and grouping those contacts which then automagically syncs to your phone.
Also, saving contacts to the phone gives you a lot more storage than a SIM card. I believe a SIM can only hold up to 250 contacts.

If you're just looking to sync them to have their contact information in your phone then I do have a solution for that. Its a process, but once its done, its done (but is reversible).
You'll need a Yahoo email account to do this. Log into your Yahoo email account, go to your contacts page, and choose to Import. Select Facebook. This will import your facebook contacts to your Yahoo account. Ok, now from the contacts page in Yahoo, you want to select export. Create a yahoo CSV file and save it to your computer. Now log onto your Google account and go to the Dashboard and then to Contacts. Now import the CSV file you made for Yahoo and you'll have all your facebook contacts now in your gmail account which will then sync to your phone. Of course you'll have to add any new facebook contact you aquire after the process manually (of just repeat the process).
Its not the most automated solution, but it is a solution. Of course you wont be able to see updates and what not with this solution, but it will get your facebook contacts information into your phone.
^^^ this is some very useful info here. Didn't know how to do this until this step by step instructions. Thanks so much.

Hotmail contact sync via exchange

I've done a lot of searching here and other places on the net, and haven't found a solid answer.
I've attempted to sync my hotmail/live contacts via exchange. I notice though, that the only fields available for my hotmail contacts, are things like first and last name. no phone number, email or any other information besides names. even when I try to add a contact, the only way to add things like number, email address, physical address is by syncing it with my Google account.
I don't use Google for much of anything. all my contacts and email are served through hotmail/live services.
How do I go about adding and syncing contacts with my hotmail/live exchange accounts?
thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

HMMM, not sure what to tell you but mine sync up just fine...
Try going to accounts and sync and erasing the data and then the email address, reboot the phone, and then add the address again...
just a suggestion though.... not a problem with android though because it works just fine for me....
you could also try going through the "email" client and setting up your email there instead of through "accounts and sync"
lemme clarify a bit.
I am able to sync my contacts, but if I want to edit or even add a new contact to my hotmail-exchange account, I can only add (in this order:
Name prefix
First Name
Middle Name
Last Name
Name suffiX
Phonetic given name
Phonetic middle name
Phonetic family name
there are no options available for e-mail, phone, address or any other fields that are normally available for a contact.
When I open the contact to view it though it will show me the information stored in hotmail/live information, but I CANNOT edit it. If I try to, I get the screen described above.....
So in order for me to have an updated address book, I have to add/edit contacts from the google account I have (which I don't use for anything, except to download from Market or whatever)
Are you able to add a new contact and save it to your contact book in hotmail/live?
I have tried things like removing my hotmail and live accounts and then readding them.
I think the difference between your account and mine is that you are syncing yours through your google account where as I am not... to be clear, I am not syncing my emails nor contacts nor calendar through my gmail account. I only have my hotmail account set up on the phone to sync. Except for on the phone, the two accounts don't know the other exists. IF you are syncing your hotmail contacts through your gmail account, then you are tied to the fields provided by your google account.
TO answer your question, yes, I can make any modification the phone allows to my hotmail contact and it is reflected in my hotmail account.
I just wanted to say thanks for the insight....
I had to unlink everything that was syncing, and then resynced accounts, starting with my Hotmail/live accounts....all fixed now.
thanks again.

Lemme get this straight. The issue is present only if two contact syncing services are enabled?
I tried. Setting Hotmail as the very first contact sync service and adding Google account without contacts sync does't work around the issue.

Do you have all of your contacts linked with your gmail account ? If so I'd try removing all the contacts you have in your phone now and then re-import them by synchronizing your google contacts into your phone.

try it... bcause sync present issues
How are they mis-linked? is it google contact details or is it facebook/twitter contacts mixed up with google ones?
If it's the latter, you could go to accounts settings, remove the various facebook/twitter sync accounts. Sync, then add those accounts back again and wait for the suggested links to be presented and see how it goes.
