WM Morse keyboard or SMS Client (developer wanted) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

There are a few morse keyboards out there but nothing I can find for Windows mobile.
I’m hoping that someone special can provide some input into developing a dit dah SIP for WM. I’m also hoping that there are enough people out there who would be willing to donate to this project / developer. I certainly would.
There are some existing apps for other platforms:
iditdahtext for the iphone
http://iditdahtext.com/iDitDahText.html
I believe this uses multitouch technology; not something that would be available/required on WM. I believe the developer has no plans to port this to WM
I have also found a reference to an Android app
http://simoncook.org/blog/2010/04/random-morse-code-keyboard/
Other XDA references:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583903
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799217
The closest thing I’ve found for WM is MorseSMSer. This is not a SIP but simply an SMS client.
http://rapidshare.com/files/116167287/MorseSMSer.zip
I believe the development of this app has ceased.
Also just found for WM

Please don’t reply with question like “why would you want that?” People want things for different reasons – be cool and accept it
Thanks

WM Morse keyboard
Reserved for me!

I had a app that converted any text to morse i will look to see if I still have that app later but your idear sounds great

Dude that keyboard looks awesome. I hope you will find the devs.

anywhere else
Anybody know anywhere else I can make this request?

well... do you want a real SIP or just an application can be ok for you ?
by the way, what do you intend to do with your text, just sending SMS, MMS,... ?

morse kb vs sms
Hi Corwin9s
I was really looking for a real SIP so that it can be used in all applications (SMS, Word etc) but I guess I would mainly use it for SMS
MorseSMSer does work but it crashes if the focus isn't in the right place (e.g. after deleting a letter). I contacted the developer who advised that development had ceased. I offered to buy the source but I didn't hear from him again.
I've had a play with the android Morse keyboard on an emulator and I think it's brilliant. Although it does imply that “word suggestion” is available but I can't get it to work. I would really like word suggestion. This may seem silly when using Morse input but however I input the text my spelling is still awful. (This is typed out in word!)
I guess that I would at least want an SMS client that didn't crash.
- / .... / .- / -. / -.- / ...

£ $ €
Can anyone help with suggestions of where to turn to for a SIP or SMS client
£ $ € on offer for a solution.
Thanks.

WM Morse keyboard - font
While looking for a font for my favorite today clock (PocketDigitalClock),
I found "Radios in Motion" font. It comes in an easy type that contains the letter it represents.
http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=1184
I have used it in Word Mobile , but be carefull where you place this file.
I keep it on the sd card\My Documents. If you place it in the device folders, you may end up with this font in things like comm manager..
I had to hard reset to correct that.
So backup before you copy this font to ppc.
Hope this helps.

Hey cac2us, not quite what I was looking for but thank you very much for taking the time.

Free T9 like dialer Program

03/09/2004
ExtendedPhone has gone Cemercial.
You can download a trial version from the leading PPC software sites.
There is still an old free version on page 4 in this thread but keep in mind that this is an old version and there and will be are many improovements in the comercial one.
I have developed a T9 like dialer using .NETCF.
(That means you need Pocket 2003 ,or Pocket 2002 with .NETCF SDF installed)
The dialer works very nicely on my device.
I plan to extend the features but first i need some feedback from you people.
They both work fine on my SX56. (May be the XDA II needs the ARMV4.)
If you have other processors i'll upload the appropriate files by request.
Any feedback or suggestion is welcome.
P.S For now it works only on Latin Alphabet
Anyone?
Whats the matter people .
No one is coming in here.
May be this is not the right forum to release a new software?
I'm interested, but was waiting for someone else to try it first! (You could be anybody releasing a virus or something )
Have you mapped the green 'Answer' button to your program like PhonePlus2 does?
Not yet
The software is still in alpha stage.
I just need some feedback on what i did so far.
(search algorithm, performance bugs etc...)
PhonePlus2 is a commercial software and has been around for a while.
I don't have the time to work full time so go easy on me.
i installed it & it says could not read service provider, getservice bla bla, so looks like its not made for us, what could be the prob;em?
Xda I
Rom: 4.05
Radio 4.01
wm 2003
Tried it on my SPV M1000, WM 2003, ROM 1.72.
Works, but, as you said, it's definitely in its alpha phase. Here are my initial thoughts:
- not very responsive, slow.
- no possibility to scroll through contacts if more than 3 options are available.
- same very mediocre (I'd say ugly, but it's a matter of taste) design, from the interface to the buttons.
- Operater doesn't show up
- What's with the 'Cool Stuff'?
Anyway, thanks for your efforts. Will definitely stay tuned on the developments.

is that not just the bane of .net ?
First of all thanks for the feedback.

As for the design I'll support skins later.
If you have more than three contats starting with the same Letter then press another button and if still have more yet another,
I could add another one or two options for contacts but then you could say why 5 , why not more?
Cool stuff is just a logo.
As for the speed i'm trying to optimize and i think this version is a little less slow (you are right Rudegar) but untill the next release of .NET CF the one we have bundled with windows is no match for NATIVE code hence the slow startup.
There is a newer version (1.1BETA) on later post.
its working good you first need to work on the speed then on the interface & would be grate if you link it to the messages since we can use it as a keyboard layout also, sorry i don't have much time to write a full description but i will do that tomorrow
since you are a programmer why don't you develop a sw for sending scheduled sms's, i would defenatly be intrested & make no mistake such sw has never been made for PPC yet so make & sell it
new dialer
looks great but is very slow it would be great if it was faster also could you add on some thing to make it easier to send sms,s when you are busy.
well done keep up the good work

Thanks guys .
I'm working on the speed problem but for now all solutions make the size a lot biger with not much improvement.
As i see there are two problems:
1 Loading time:Loading time is a bit of a problem in .NET (because of it's nature)
I'm trying different techniques but with no significant improvement.
So in the mean time just minimize the program and don't close it.
2 The first letter of the contact:
I'm working on that and i'm geting somewhere.
As for the SMS i'll have to resolve the speed problem first but i'm thinking about it.
Stay tuned
elir,
Found some issue.
- USSD code not supported. E.g. press **21*xxxxxxxxxx# to make call forwarding but it's not support in your software.
- Only 3 slots in the searching result. Maybe I have 10 contacts match the result but fail to show the 4th to 10th
- Unable to enter "+" to dial a IDD call.
Cheers,
Paul
Source code?
Elir, what about releasing this piece of nice work under any open source licence? I'm a developer in .NET for 4 years, so maybe I can help you.
Is it in C# or VB.NET?
Suggestion for faster searching:
What about creating tree from Contacts in memory on the start of program? If my assumption your dialer searches in Contacts directly is right...

I'm working on international and ussd calls but as i said before want to resolve the speed issue first.
As for contacts slots , the whole point for an application like this is dialing one handed when bussy(driving etc...) , so adding slots will not help on that.
The only problem i see with this design is when you have more than three contacts with exactly the same first name.
This can be solved by adding search by last name but again i'm having speed problems as it is.

I don't know yet about open source but i can tell you thats written in c# with a lot of native code (.NET CF lacks all the phone and outlook functions)
Thanks for the suggestion but If i copy the entire phonebook to memory at startup :
It will add another 2 seconds (and i have only 180 contacts) and it is slow as it is.
It will allocate a big chunk of memory and as you probably know we don't have a lot of it.
More than that if you add or change a contact you'll have to restart the program for it to appear.
How about bugs?
Nobody has reported any.
What do you not know about open source?
Or you mean, that you are thinking about releasing final version as commercial software? Com'on man...
In C#? Nice one brother...
Hm... In my QTek 2020 is about 80MB of free memory, so what is problem?
About refresh of tree: Isn't possible to add some event handler on changes at Contacts database?
Bugs will follow very soon...

As far as i know (and i have done some research) that is not possible.
Re-write in in C++ (or even with MFC) for much better speed. .NET sucks ass on a PC let alone a poor ikkle PPC!
New version
Hi all!
New version 1.0.3
Fixes:
1 International dialing
2 Now you can use pound key just for #
3 Less slower (at least in my xda)
Added a module to send SMS .
A little clumsy but .... .
I didn't check the Sms module thoroughly but for some reason it doesn't dial international numbers ( i think is the "+")
PS The sequence of characters can be changed( for now i just went by the abc)
There is a newer version (1.1BETA) on later post.
SMS
I found out that numbers begining with "+" cannot be used to send SMS.
I'll fix this bug tomorrow so wait for the next version.
Any suggestions for my qwerty keyboard are welcome.
Has anyone noticed a speed increase?

Phone Application Recommendations?

Good evening guys! I'm a new user to the TyTN (Former Treo 650 user) and its a good phone. When I was using the Treo 650, I used this phone application which is pretty awesome! It's called TAKEphone by a company called ShSh. (http://www.shsh.com/main_takephone.htm) This application has this Enhanced Search Feature which I really need, yet can't find a program that does it for the Windows Mobile 5 OS. The following is an example of what TAKEphone does, and i'm trying to find a program just like it.
- Enhanced searching capabilities:
Search any combination of all fields.
4 search methods, including fast "Turbo" (sorted) search.
Allows 'And' operation of search strings.
Supports accented characters (umlauts).
Basically if i want to call my good friend "Johnathan Smith", i can just type his initials in, JS and it will query the phone for any letters i type, so if i have another friend with the same initials, for example, Jane Simpson, that will come up as well. It makes searching easier especially when you run a business and have over 500 contacts.
The best feature on the phone is, i can even narrow this search even more to an exact match, i can type "jo sm" and it'll find Johnathan Smith as well.
Well, if anyone knows any information of a program of this sort that i can purchase, can someone please let me know? Thanks a million!
I haven't seen an app like that for windows mobile but smart dialer is probably the closest your gonna get to it.
Something like that would be nice and i think my old nokia (about 5 years ago) had an option like that built in... what are you making me miss symbian?!?

Creating custom on-screen keyboard (SIP)

Dear developers,
Do you have examples (source code) that could be used / modified to create custom on-screen keyboard (SIP)?
Inspired by the iPhone keyboard and the latest HappyTappingKeyboard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296455
I created my own design (attached) that I believe could be a better on-screen keyboard for our beloved WM device:
- It has a clean layout
- Maximized towards 240 pixels wide
- Relatively good looking
- Have the most important keys in the main layout
- Plan to have "custom keys" in the 3rd layout (the "..." button)
What do you think?
But as you probably know, I am not a WM coder/developer.
So, I am just wondering if someone can provide an example or even better to pick up this project.
gogol, I really like the look of your keyboard design/layout! I've been trying to get HappyTapping to work (well, it "works" but can't be skinned) for the past week on my Axim X50v. Anyway, I don't see much hope for HappyTapping, so naturally I'm excited to see someone looking to develop a keyboard similar to it (and hopefully in the English language). I have no experience developing SIPs for Windows Mobile, but I do have Visual Studio 2005 and have done some WM apps before.
I hope some others with knowledge of SIP developement can chime in and help this thing take off!

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I have about every skin out there for Happy Tapping and have tried them all. For some reason, the skin is just never applied to my keyboard. I don't know if it's a conflict with my ROM or with WM5. I know it is skinnable and many have done so successfully without any problems...it pretty much just hates me. Thanks anyway for the link!
Here you got a link about Soft Input Panel. You get a code example when you download the SDK for mobile 6. I'm still working on trying to learn my self C++ and mabye manage to make on my self. But we will se what i manage in the end .
I love Blimkeys. Unfortunately, there has not been an update of it that uses predictive T9 like the T9 SIP pad that's built in into many phones. Maybe you can do something similar to Blimkeys, but w/ 9 and skinnable keyboards?
ialu, thanks for that, I will try to get my hand dirty as well (I am not familiar with C++, but I know other Windows programming language to help me learning).
People are complaining that WM phone is difficult to use, iPhone owners brag their UI.
But I saw a lot of progress on improving the WM user interface.
The finger friendly contact from "tene" is one example (very nice app!).
However, I still cant find a good on-screen keyboard, until we found that HappyTappingKeyboard. But again, I think it can be improved. That's why I started this project.
ialu, please let me know if you can compile that example and then use it in the emulator.

[Q][Help] Need code for editing and saving file in VB.NET

Hay,
i'm trying to develop a program, in VB.NET. i call it wDiary stands for Workout Diary.
The purpose is to let the user choose 4 (or more) sports to save progess/daynotes of, and to view the txtfiles, like a dayly diary in a calendar.
i have comed to that part where i'm want to save a file in a spesific directory.
like save:
"Jogging - " + date".txt in %MyDocuments%\wDiary\Jogging\
print textbox1.text in line one and so on
like the this code
Code:
FileOpen(1, My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "\Jogging - "+date".txt", OpenMode.Output)
PrintLine(1, TextBox2.Text)
PrintLine(2, TextBox3.Text)
FileClose(1)
But thats a code i used for an Windows app. I want the same function for my Touch pro (WinCE 6.1) :/

Just a quick one, and I understand English might not be your first language but a Dairy is where they bottle milk, and make other dairy produce like cheese and cream.
I think your app should have been called wDiary - as in a diary of events
I'm not taking the mick here, just offering a bit of help As for the file editing, what language are you doing it in? C++.net, C#.net, VB.net?
If it's vb.net you're using - this site has some decent basic file routines (checking if it exists, adding text, appending, closing etc)
Hope this helps
Doing a quick search, it points out to be VB.net indeed. Try stating which language you use next time.
The link in the above post should give you sufficient info.

You should be able to use the standard System.IO.StreamReader and System.IO.StreamWriter Functions. I can code this in c# if you can translate to VB.net.
Change of direction
Actually let me make another suggestion. Sometimes when writing a small app to collect data I use a very lazy yet very usefull feature of .net DataSets.
I databind the controls to the dataset by dropping the dataset on the form and assiging the bindings via autogenerated bindinsource component. All I do now to read and save are the following lines of code
Read:
Code:
dataSet1.ReadXml("mydb.xml");
Write
Code:
dataSet1.WriteXml("mydb.xl", XmlWriteMode.WriteSchema);
It might not be pretty but it does the trick. Also less code and no need for parsing XML
yes please

I have one more thing, if sombody can help. the Design seems perfectly in Visual basic. put when i deploy it to the emulator it looks smal and rubbish. the buttons (png.files) gets streched in width and pressed in the height. so, how can i design in 480x640 (VGA) for my Touch pro :/
I've set my emulator settings to USA WM 6.1 Classic and it works fine when deployed to my touch pro. If your screen resolution is fairly high (I use 1280x1024) you could use USA WM 6.1 VGA but it filled my entire screen. You might have better luck if you use 1600x1280 or whatever (or run multi-monitor)
Hope this helps

Very good.
Okay, I've got a request:
I need a little program, which is the same like BluePower which switches BT on when connecting to AC but a little bit more extended.
So, 2 things are very needed:
1. A popup which asks if BT should really switched on (YES/NO; Standard: YES)
2. This prog should recognize if a BT-device is connected so BT should stay on when loosing AC-Power
That's for now
-Lycox
- how about an application that converts any selected email or sms into an appointment
simple but very very usuful
photo uploader
hi, i'm looking for a program to upload, pictures/photo's/video to my own website. like, you make a picture and then you can select to upload it to your own specified website. maybe also the posebillety with gps position and some comments. don't know if it's possible.
pls think about it!
grtz heyk
hey i m looking for photoeditor for elfin can u made it
Really cool would be, to have an small app like g-profile, which for example turns on wi-fi on an fixed placed at an fixed time.
for example i come home, it recognizes this gsm singnal, and wi-fi turns on.
or i get to work, its not yet my breakt and it turns the volume to just vibra. than my break starts and volume turns up.
gprofile can do such thing but just with one reason, gsm OR time, i would need both
i want if you fancy making a simple but functional hard key program swapper so i can change the hardkeys setting easily to other programs.
thanks for the offer wish I could do this.
I wouldlike to log calls in contact notes like agendasfusion.
callcalendaris close but buggyand logsonly incalendar.
a weather app like weatherpanel where wallpaperis live radar
a calculator app with running tape, and a transparent keyboard
looks like youre gonna be busy!
i was thinkin recently of working with someone to make some palm pre-like apps
the fluidity of the apps on that device ive seen in preview vids and the wonderful use of the small screen real estate (no top and bottom bars, minimal buttons), is something that is almost necessary on screens like my htc touch (same screen size as the palm pre)
so, i would provide all the graphics for these apps, just need a developer
i think so far pocketcm contacts has contacts/sms covered.. very smooth scrolling, with a skin i can acheive the same simplicity and great use of fullscreen view on a small screen as i whippd up in this photoshop mockup:
i think what winmo needs is a good email interceptor app.. there are none that are skinnable to the extent of pocketcm contacts or as fluid, and then an image viewer (see palm pre screenshots of that app here -simple but very useful-:http://www.engadget.com/photos/palm-pre-official-ui-shots-1/1290333/ you can find videos all over) and a similar calendar app
most needed is the email app
if you could develop trust me.. you would have an insane following of obedient users
weve been looking for one for a long time, but its never come thru
if you make it, ill provide graphics!
think about it
htctoucher
What about a application, an actual good and working application that lets you create group distribution lists for email groups in your contacts similar to how the blackberry allows you to do it from their contact list and be able to use the group listing whether creating a new email or forwarding an email. I am shocked that this issue hasn't been addressed sooner.

Complete lack of integration between calendar + contacts and email + contacts is very disheartening!
My problem is that I do a lot of presentations, and all the presentation pointer/remote apps out there cannot meet my needs in terms of simplicity. All of them require me to run a server app on my PC.
I have used one in Palm that emulates a bluetooth HID keyboard/mouse, meaning it can do anything that your mouse or keyboard can do. The app requires to have virtual keys for Ctrl, Alt, Del, Function keys.

Maybe a suggestion, in Microsoft Office, If we copy/paste or drag-drop email to Calender, then it becomes an appointment.
Maybe this could help you in some thinking...

Papi Jump
Hi!
My idea is to make a game, similar to Papi Jump (a great game for iPhone) - you can see the game on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQxltToeNXo . It's an arcade game - you control a jumping ball with tilting your device.
It would be great if could make this game work for Windows Mobile.
Since we're all tossing stuff into the "wishing well", I can add something too
An application that would scroll RSS feeds on Home screen in Manila.
Of course, such an app isn't hard to make, the RSS Hub saves its channels into simple files - the problem is how to incorporate it into Home screen.
Well, I got an idea for that as well! Recently a small program called Personalizer showed up that enables us to change the network provider name into anything we want - that would be the perfect place for RSS scroller to show up! And since there already exists a way to modify this data, I suppose it would be possible to use Personalizer as backdoor for the feeds to show up in that text filed!
Even if they wouldn't actually "scroll", I think they could be made to change every 4-5 seconds.

Or how about a Config-Editor for FingerPoint? ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499734 ) - so there's no more need to edit the XML Config File manually?
How about an application that reminds you to drink water and tracks how much water you have drank per day. As everyone should know, the average male should drink 3 to 5 liters of water everyday and ladies should drink 2 to 4 liters.
How about a litle app that:
1-Reminds you to drink
2-Allows you to input how much water you have drank (when reminded or manually)
In the long run, you could monitor how much water you consume on a monthly, qaurterly ,biannually and yearly basis.
