Stuck After Boot - Vibrant General

Hey guys i know "Help!" threads get annoying (at least in the Fascinate forum they do.) but i could really use some help.
Rooted my friends phone today (root, clockwork, rom manager), and was going to install regular JAC kernal /voodoo w/o color fix.. I made sure the phone had the smaller NAND chip. Installation went fine (phone booted, voice told me it was switching to ext. 4.) and the voice said voodoo was complete. The phone was stuck at the S logo for about an hour and it was then i decided voodoo was botched. From there i rebooted to clockwork and went to restore the nandroid i made when i rooted. The nandroid got stock at one of the Data files for about 30 minutes. (i have a feeling this is around where i messed things up myself) Decided screw it and was going to flash JI6(T959UVJI6) and the stock kernal with ODIN. Now the phone boots past the S logo but the screen stays black and only the backlight menu buttons light up. It wont go past there. Any quick help is appreciated.

You didn't disable the lagfix I'm assuming.
Odin Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick, then Odin JFD, install ROM of you're choosing.
Did you even try to search for a fix before posting???

If you can still boot into clockwork recov. you can save it by pushing the undo voodoo zip file that was mentioned about. Assuming that u have adb access. If not odin froyo that doesnt brick tepartition checked. Turn off. Boot back in download. Odin stock jdf. Ji6 isnt a standalone rom. Its more like a no wipe update. Lucky his vibrant wasnt hardware locked lol. He will have a 90% chance of losing EVERYTHING

Had to odin flash froyo that doesnt brick then jfd and yep he lost all his data but he didnt have much to begin with. Now happily running Fusion. Thanks for the help guys!

[Q] soft brick. oden flash but still nothing

I know there are alot of soft brick threads but so far none of the methods have helped me.
I installed bonix 1.6 w/ voodoo and it worked just fine. I didnt like it, so i went into rom manager and told it to flash my recovery that i did before the rom. well when it did this it failed half way through. when i rebooted the stock lock screen came up with the stock wallpaper. but then alot of force closes came up (im assuming because it didnt put everything back on the phone after fail).
I have tryed to flash stock roms, fryo 2.2, j16 roms and still nothing. when the phone boots after oden flash it goes through the bootup process and then goes to a blank screen. when i touch one of the buttons on bottom they all light up and stay on.
oh and i have stock recovery....
am i screwed? and thank you in advance for anything that is helpfull
Did you disable voodoo before flashing the recovery?
i disabled it before i flashed bonix but i didnt before i flashed recovery
anyone? anything?
check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782027
now go to "Did You Flash Something Before Disabling Voodoo? 2 Fixes to Help You Out."
And I recommend step 1 it won't take more than 20 minutes, been there, done that.
thank you!! worked great

[Q] vibrant bricked i think??

so i crashed my phone today.. basically my phone was rooted and i install everything you would need flashed the phone with obsidian 4.2 or whatever... heres where i think i went wrong ( im not super techy but smart enough to get this far) .. the flash was awesome running super fast... i got greedy and i decided i wan'ted to do the voodoo lag fix to see how much faster it would be.. i was reading tuitorial on how to do it.. it said to flash the phone with the davlchik cache and scirpts download did that.... backed up phone with clock mod rec. flashed the phone with voodoo linda was giving the prompts it was done... and i got the vibrant screen only thing i can come up with was my phone was being glitchy and didn't download the whole file for the scripts.. and didn't really install i thought i covered my basis.. now heres the real problem when i volume button/power button the phone into recovery and went to restore the phone the phone completed the system recovery but when in data recovery it froze at pcsync_stream??? what do i do now can i load a rom on the sd card? and flash it?
You will probably have to ODIN back to stock.

Locked up my Fascinate--please help

I'm a relative newbie and not very tech-oriented, and I appear to have screwed up big time. I'd appreciate any help that can be offered. To cut to the chase, when I attempt to boot up my Fascinate, it gets stuck indefinitely on the Samsung logo.
Here's what I did to screw it up. I rooted my phone when I first got it last year and did a lagfix. It unrooted with the update to JD05. Yesterday I attempted to root it again using two different 1-click methods, neither of which worked. I then followed the instructions in the "Modified CWMrecovery for Odin" thread, not having it work until finally succeeding in getting root using CWM Red. The phone rebooted and was rooted, and everything seemed fine, so I used Rom Manager to Boot to Recovery. This did something strange--it took 15 minutes to get to the recovery screen, with a digital voice periodically telling me how much longer it would take. When I got to the recovery screen the first thing I did was to perform a backup. I think this effort to be safe did me in, because the phone must have already been screwed up then and I think I backed up the screw-up.
I then attempted to reboot and since then all efforts get me stuck on the Samsung logo. I've tried almost all options from the Recovery screen: reboot system now, apply sdcard update.zip, wipe date/factory reset, wipe cache partition, install zip from ascard, and restore. All bring the same locked up phone.
I'd appreciate any ideas to bring my Fascinate back to life!
First off the only way to get to red CWM is to install a voodoo 5 kernel. I'm thinking the voodoo kernel and the one click lag fix don't play well together. I'm sure someone else will step in with more info however I would start by looking for a thred called how to completely remove voodoo. Then try odin to restore. Good luck.
Edit. I read your post again and not sure if u did one click lag fix or just an older voodoo kernel. Either way same result u have to disable voodoo 4 and one click to install voodoo 5. Odin it. The voice u hear was the voodoo kernel converting your system to ext4 if this was the first time you've heard this I think your first lag fix may have been the one click.

Yes this happed to me too. If i take it to the Verizon store will they know my phone is rooted and moded? i need help ASAP
Search the forums on how to properly removed the voodoo lag fix. Then you need to reflash dj05. Voodoo doesn't really do much except for show you a higher quadrant score and limit to what roms/themes you can install. Same thing happened to me. Just do a quick search, I think its in the development section. The easiest way to remove it is with and. Hope this is somewhat helpful.
so fresh and so superclean.
Don't bring it to verizon because you would be defrauding them for your mistake. see if you can access your sd card through the computer and put either a file or folder in the voodoo folder called disable_lagfix and try booting again. If that doesn't help (it is probably too late for that) then you need to flash back to stock through odin. find the thread in development on how to do that. Good luck. Your phone is not broken. Breathe.

Here is the ODIN back to stock if you don't want to bother with removing Voodoo. That should fix your phone with or without Voodoo. It's always worked for me.
THANKS SO MUCH its back to normal i cant thank you enough
Many thanks for all of the help.

Problem after installing the wrong Voodoo version

My brother and I both have a Vibrant. He broke his so I loaned him mine for a week. While he had mine (which I've upgraded to 2.2), he installed Android 2.1 Voodoo 4 on it. Little to say, after rebooting, the phone wasn't booting past the boot screen.
I've now followed some instructions from the forum, and have reflashed my phone with Eugene's non-bricking ROM through Odin. The phone boots up just fine now. However, I am trying to install ROM Manager on the phone, so I can reflash my recovery ROM (non Voodoo) - and the Android market tells me it can't install the app due to not having enough free space - though I have over 1GB.
I am guessing this is because the internal disk is still setup in the Voodoo file system, and just enough space was repartitioned for the OS to go back on.
Can anyone help me restore my phone?
EDIT: I've also tried flashing a different recovery ROM through ODIN (with repartition), which also wouldn't let me get past the bootup screen.
I'm taking a wild guess here, I seriously don't know, but did you click repartition in Odin? I think that's would work, but like I said, I'm not completely sure.
I didn't repartition for the Eugene rom fix (as per the instruction I read), but did when I tried to load another version ontop of that.
I was in the Voodoo chatroom, and was able to get some help. It sounds like I need to download a stock ROM and then reset my file partition to get rid of the EXT4 partition, and reset it all to the default.
I have Eugene's "non bricking" rom, but I don't think that's what I need. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need and how to do this?
Just search for the stock Odin images and flash back. They should be in a sticky. I would repartition as well.
I am trying to find a stock version I can ODIN flash. Do you know where I can get one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
I've gone through ODIN, done a reflash to the stock firmware, and repartitioned the phone as well.
Now, when I boot the phone up, I get the T-Mobile screen and the Galaxy S screen, and then the phone goes black (with no lights on) and doesn't go any further. My phone has been sitting on the desk like this for 20 minutes now.
I am wondering if this is like when moving to Voodoo, it takes a while to change the format to EXT4, is the phone having to go back to the default?
I 1am into the same problem with the old voodoo. What you'll need to do is flash back to stock via odin. Ur apps memory will be real low. Flash an old 2.1 voodoo. Let it do its thing once booted put a disable voodoo file into the folder and reboot. It will be ok after that. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks fatboy, but I can't even flash back to stock. The phone won't boot up.

Guess I screwed something up :O

So I was trying to go from comrom to OMFGB nightlies, and didn't know you have to go to OMBG first. When I tried to do that. I odined the ED05 modem, then flashed OMFGB, then the GAPPS. It wouldn't work, and then I read I had to flash a new kernel, so I flashed the Glitch high leakage. Then it started to work, but after it went to the boot screen, it went to a new CMW, blue, and tried to install GAPPS? I think that's what it was doing, but it went really quickly, and said something like it couldn't mount the sd card, which is weird. So I took out the sd card, and it said waiting for mount, or something similar. I put it back in, but it wouldn't work. So then, I flashed back to UKB with the pb&j kernel, to see if I could get things going from there. It booted fine, but when I tried to just flash OMFGB, it would go to the boot screen, and then go back to CWM. So I tried to go back to UKB, and then it did the same thing, didn't change the boot screen at all (so now it's stuck with Galaxy S Cyanogen mod boot screen). I tried to flash OMBG then, but it was still going back to CWM. I'm thinking about odining the eclair package, and then trying from there. What do you think. Oh and usually I go to android central, but they don't have OMFGB nightlies there, so here I am.
TL;DR: I flashed a bunch of GB stuff in what I assume to be in the wrong order, now I'm stuff. Help me?
EDIT:After flashing a bunch of stuff, I don't remeber what or what order, just that the Glitch was last, I managed to get it to boot, first with a glitch boot screen, then the android boot screen. I'm not sure what I'm on, I think it is OMGB, at least that is what the widget says when I booted it up. I'm really confused. Anyways, I think I got it.
EDIT2:Nope, stuck at the boot to CWM loop. I'm going to try to go back to UKB (froyo) through that sticky in dev
EDIT3:Well I'm waiting for it to download, so what I did that worked was flash OFGB in red CWM, weird, but it worked. I'm leaving it at that for now, cause nobody is replying.
While I'm glad you got things to work, you should probably start from scratch if things start to get weird again. I highly recommend this thread as the proper way to go from CM7/MIUI/OMFGB back to stock, and from there back to whatever you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
Remember that when you flash stock DL09 or EB01 or ED05, you also have to have the atlas 2.2 pit file and "repartition" checked in ODIN.
Finally, while you still have things working, I recommend you do a nandroid backup. If you need to go all the way back to stock before coming back to gingerbread, you can do an Advanced Restore > Data Restore in order to get your apps and such back pretty painlessly.
Yeah thanks, that's the sticky I was talking about. I didn't know about the re-partition button having to be checked, thanks for that And the Data restore is through CWM? I assume so. And for that, I just need a regular nandroid backup?
Yes, in CWM you can choose backup and restore, and then do a system backup.
When you want to go back to a given setup (i.e. your apps, widgets, etc.) you can do an advanced restore where you choose to restore just data, and not the whole nandroid system backup.
That's pretty cool, I never new about that. So I tried the *228 1 and 2 thing, cause I couldn't download the beta swype, and I thought it I needed too, but it said my phone couldn't be activated, and to try again, then the I lost all signal. I rebooted, and it came back, but I couldn't activate it again. It's being weird still, and in the morning, I'm starting over like you suggested. I'm still receiving calls though, and I get good connection. For the morning, I was wondering if I could just check to see if I have everything I need. I have:
CI500_VZW_ED05_FROYO_REL.tar.md5 from the thread you posted for odin
OMGB 1.2.0
OMFGB nightly build 7/21
Glitch High leakage v11.1
The CWM for all roms (red)
lithid gapps (unless you think the other gapps is good)
and I think that is it. I don't have the atlas 2.2 pit file, can I just search here for that? Thanks for all the help
EDIT:Found the atlas 2.2, and I use that at the same time as the md5 file, right?
EDIT2:Okay, I tried to do a nandroid backup, but with the CWM recovery 4.0.1.0 (I think that's what it is), it didn't show anything, like it said backing up system, then it didn't show what part it was backing up, and the status bar stayed blank, then it moved on to data after a while, and that. It said it failed to back up sd-ext, which I'm guessing is why it wasn't working properly. I'm doing the odin restore to froyo, and if someone could tell me the correct order to install/flash/odin stuff to get to the OMFGB nightlies, that would be amazing!
EDIT3:I think I did it right. Odined to froyo, Odined the ED05 modem, Odined the CWM for CM7, flashed CM7, Rebooted, Flashed Glitch Kernel, then Flashed OMFGB nightly build 7/23. I still need to do gapps though.
EDIT4:I did gapps, and almost everything looks good. I can't activate my phone through *228 1, and when I try to set up my google account, it says it couldn't establish a reliable connection to the servers. And After I call to activate my phone, my service goes dead. I can still text and receive calls though
EDIT5:man, a lot of editing. I flashed OMGB 1.2.0 on top, and now I can set up my google account. Still not activating though :/
Unrelated question, how come sometimes my wifi and signal bars are grey, sometimes blue (I'm using cyanbread)? I think when they are grey, I'm not using signal? How do I make them blue?
