[Q] Q. SIM card Difference if Android web or WinMo web ? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am running an HD2 with Froyostone 3.2.
I purchased a G2 and switched to Android web...using the Android SIM in the HD2...does it make a difference..Im not sure.
When in WinMo i can access the internet..and in Android as well, but i get alot of drops in the Android.
Anyone else try this ?
Edit: using darkstone [email protected] V3

Are you talking about your data plan on your contract/tariff?
They largely mean nothing important. APN's will invariable be the same (this especially rings true if you changed something on your tariff but nothing changed on your phone), it's just a way of the networks and carriers to try and make more money off people.

Thank you.
Can you tell me is there anything I can do to keep the network from dropping out so much. I read through some threads...but don't really understand what I need to so exactly
htc hd2 froyostone

Atm PPP data disconnects are a tricky beast to contend with. There are lots of threads that deal with the situation, but as far as I am aware (and it would be big news!) it's not been fixed permanently on any build.
I'm using Shubcraft 2.0 atm and my data only disconnects when I switch towers (basically when I travel outside of my local area) but turning my mobile data off then on again brings it back. It's a minor inconvenience to me, I know it's a great annoyance to others who aren't as lucky as me.
The only real advice I can give is keep reading those threads that deal with it, and see if other peoples fixes/workarounds work for you.

Thanks again....that's pretty much what I been doing disconnecting data...other than that..I have no other issues with this build
..I rarely even use the G2..hah

HD2 Web Connectivity Issues and Analysis

Seriously people....
I've seen lots of threads recently. People are complaining that the HD2's data connection cuts out, leaving them unable to access the Internet from their phones for who knows how long. I know, it IS kinda annoying...But the thing is..
I can tell you this IS NOT a hardware problem. It's something to do with either the OS....or something in the phone's registry settings which no one has picked up yet...I hear that phones like the TP2 do not have this error, and I agree. My old unbranded Touch Pro 2 was brilliant, I could use it for IM and texts anywhere...LOL I used to sit on the Bus while people stared at my phone, while I was on Messenger talking to my phone. Anyways, here's what I wanna tell you guys. Hope I help out everyone in some way or another.
What I have:
HD2
3 Mobile Sim-So yeah, My Operator is 3 UK
Living in London, UK
Using ENERGY's 17th March Version ROM
HUSPA, HDSPA Enabled
What I've noticed:
The phone cuts out the signal when the transition between 3G and H occurs in the icons. As a result, the Internet cuts out temporarily, and programs such as Messenger lose connectivity for a while. For example, when the icon is on H, and no one's talking on Messenger, the Icon changes back to 3G....during this moment it cuts out sometimes..until it reverts back to the H icon (Got that? I know, it's a little long and complicated when I word it like that, but read it out and it'll make sense xD)
Now, whenever I have the phone connected to my PC/Laptop (Either as a Wi Fi Router or through the cable and then using Internet Sharing, either way, the phone does NOT change back to 3G, it stays constantly on H (Mind you, I usually download during this period). Anyways, the point being that the connection is VERY stable and constant, when in this state, connected to my PC/Laptop and the device is accessing the Internet through my phone's Data Connection. So what do you all think? And what have YOU found out? Leave your responses and ideas below
Some things I have found out are, if you Enable ONLY HUSPA in the Settings/Connectivity options, the connections seem to be more stable. Furthermore, if you really want to, Disable Advanced Connections, stay only on 3G, and enjoy a LOT of stability (At the cost of slower speed surfing and downloading )
My HD2 does not connect at all anymore. I called in to support because I completely lost data connectivity (web browser, email, slacker, whatever - no connection). They verified no troubles on their end. I moved the sim to my old touch pro (running Energy ROM w/ winmo 6.5 and Sense 2.1) and that phone connects fine. So it's not the SIM, and it's not the network.
I've also done a hard reset to get back to stock and still have the problem, which tells me that it's not a registry / software setting.
They only thing that leaves is faulty hardware - or firmware that a ROM hard reset wouldn't affect. Either way I need to replace the device altogether.
Unfortunately, tmo is out of stock and so I can only wait for a more to become available before it can be replaced.

Which phone company are you with? I experienced the same problem with 3UK in North London for a couple of months up until the beginning of last week but it was a problem at 3's end, not mine. Other people have been experiencing similar issues with non-3 phones in London (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=102192).
yes, I had problems in London too before Good Friday. Especially on Tues+Wed.
Others around me inthe library also had similar issues with their iphones. I kept on switching the baseband and modes, and reapplying my 3G settings to keep it alive and solve the outages.
Most people with issues were on vodafone or O2 (like me).
It would work, then cut, then work.
I thought at first it was because I had a custom ROM, but iphone users had the same - and lots of timeouts on requests.
I DO believe however that running ROMS like energy's and Dutty's HG 1.7 with 2.10 (which I'm currently running) bases as 2_08 radios is not great for the uk and exacerbates the connection issue. 2_07 is better...and in any event we SHOULD be using 1.72 based roms with 2_09 radio.
I have also noticed that on COM5 23544 builds the opera mobile 9.7 and 10 google boxes do not work. They come up as failed connection, but then i click on teh link and it works...weird huh???
So I think last week was because of network faults in London. But in general, these 2.10 based ROMS and their radios are not ideal for stability.
I had perfect call and HSDPA stability with 1.48stock+2_09 radio.
Having turned to a 23544 rom (Dutty's HG) with 2_08 radio I've had much less call and internet stability (and quality) over the stock with 2_09.

need help with problematic friend not liking hd2

so as it comes to be, my friend former iphone 3g owner decided to pick up the htc hd2 from tmobile, all went well with it for the first couple days, but now shes constantly complaining about email connectivity issues, and her email will randomly dissapear and not be able to connect and slow lagginess on the phone causes her to throw temper tantrums . also for some reason her music is not showing up correctly... on top of that shes using att on the hd2 unlocked , all the settings have been configured but the rom is still on the stock tmobile rom.. so my question to you guys is what would be her best bet at a rom which is extremely user friendly and doesnt have too many options (so basically something like the tmobile rom without the tmobile bloatware and settings on it) something liek a stock hd2 rom , but i know i cant put that because of the radio issues... if anyone can help id greatly appreciate it because i know the true capabilities of this phone and unfortunatly im flashing a ne rom every day, she wants something she can use daily , stable , fast and super user friendly
Try flashing Kumar's rom its the closest feel to the stock rom that I have found. What type of email is she using? I use active sync with gmail and I found that it works the best because its a push email setup. Also you have to remember that since she is on at&t she will not get the 3g speeds so data is going to be slow.
well the data speed is ok and she uses yahoo, but just randomly her emails will get erased or shell get synchronization errors, even though her internet works.. its truly something that confuses the living hell out of me , and which kumar are we talking about what flavor ?

I run Kumar premium and its the best to my liking. First thing she needs to do is get rid of yahoo mail, its crap. With my clients that have yahoo have nothing but problems, everyone else is fine. Tell her to get gmail works great and is super easy to set up.
try telling a female to change her ways and tell me how that goes hahahha
I have the same setup. I have an unlocked TMOUS HD2 that I'm using on AT&T's carrier network. I didn't like the stock rom as it had tons of useless apps I would never use. So I HPSL'ed it and flashed it with Kumar's Lite 1.9 WWE rom. Try that and see if she likes that. Also let her know that some of the stalling and other issues could be because of the faulty/laggy MicroSD card. If she still experiences issues, have her take out her sd card for a while to see if she still experiences it. If she doesn't then she's got a bad card. Some people do, some people don't. The only problem with the lite rom is it is exactly that...Lite! So if she wants swype she will have to install that seperately. Same for Cookie tabs and other things.
Kumar's ROM is definitely the best that I've used so far. Also, see what radio she's running and possibly try flashing to a different one to see if that makes a difference.

[Q] Android shows always roaming [SOLVED]

I am having an issue with my HD2 where in all android builds I've tried and all radio roms I've tried, it always says that I am roaming. I've tried quite a few recent android builds and radio roms. I am in NYC using Tmobile and have used my sim in other phones and in WM and never shown up as roaming in my apartment.
I'm currently using ChuckyDroidRom and EBL 2.1a. The phone and 3G have worked fine in ChuckyDroidROM and in the original official Tmobile WinMo ROM. However, in Android my lock screen shows "T-Mobile 3G|Vstream" or "T-Mobile|Vstream" and there is always an 'R' in my status bar and i get no data unless i turn roaming data on. Is it possible android has an issue with the difference between T-Mobile and Vstream which are essentially the same thing and WM doesnt? My sim is 9 years old from back when it was called Voicestream, but I've never had any problems with it and as I said it works fine when running WM6.5 and it worked fine in all of the other old phones I've had over the years.
Here are the Radio ROMs I've tried (all with no positive result in this issue)
Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
Leo_RADIO_2.11.50.26**
Leo_RADIO_2.11.50.20**
Leo_RADIO_2.10.50.28_2
Leo_RADIO_2.08.50.05**
Leo_RADIO_15.36.50.07U_2.09.50.29_2 (from TMOUS_2.11)
Here are the Android Builds I've tried (all have shown the same issue where I am always roaming)
HyperDroidV1.5
JDMSV1.2
mccm_v1.5_customise
shubCRAFT_v1.5
bangsters_v1.3a_09142010
I'm tempted to just leave data on when roaming and let it think it is roaming as it seems fairly likely I wont get roaming charges at home since it does automatically connect to the T-Mobile network, but then there are the annoying extra dialog boxes that warn me about roaming in some apps, and also I'm worried if i go out of town and leave roaming data on I'll end up with big charges one day when my phone is actually roaming.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried searching everywhere for a solution but have had no luck solving the issue so far.
The first thing I would do is ask my provider for a new SIM. I think that will solve your problem.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Thanks, I will try that tomorrow when I get a chance to go to a Tmobile store. My only concern is that it doesnt seem like the SIM is indicated as the issue as it works fine in other phones including iphone, htc wizard, and many other phones before. The symptoms seem to me to indicate Android to be part of the issue, since the SIM has worked for many years and even works fine with HD2 hardware in WM6.5.
Any other ideas? I noticed the same question asked in at least one or two other threads on these forums, but never with any solution posted and barely any response. Thanks to anyone who may be able to help.

Try to turn off Network Location and GPS on WinMo and try to fresh install Android and disable location in both GPS and Network and see what'll happen
Ok, getting a new SIM from T-Mobile worked! And disabling GPS in WM helped get GPS working as well. I guess android is especially picky about carrier codes so my 10 year old Voicestream SIM wasnt recognized as T-mobile even though all the other phones I've used it in had no problem with it. Very excited to have 2+Mbps 3G and GPS on my HD2 using my $5.99/mo tzones plan. This is a big upgrade from my iphone 2g which only supported EDGE and didnt have GPS or my location working.

HD2 Europe mobile-reception not workin flawlessly

Hey guys,
i have constant battles with my HD2 running Android. The mobile reception and logically because of that APN is also not workin properly.
Example: I'm at home and have full mobile-reception and internet is working flawlessly. One second later nothings workin... The reception display shows 4/4 lines and one second later 0/4. But i didn't move.. Same with WLAN and APN..
I guess it's not a "build problem", cuz i had this with lots of builds. So it's maybe a windows mobile thing. I have flashed 2.12.50 radio and chucky droid rom.
I tried 2.14 but my conversational partners had very strong echos. (with MIUI-Build)
I searched the forum and googled but i didn't find any solution for this..
Really need this to be fixed.
thx bench

I don't know a lot about android. But i had similar "echo" problems when i used a TMOUS based rom. I use miris 1.80 based rom with 2.14 radio in the uk on vodafone with no problems.
Miri Rom Here: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2520
Have you tried a RMNET based android build. The data connection with those is slower but generally more stable. I use ppp but do get the data drop off. but turning the mobile data off and turning back on again sorts the problem.
It would probably better to post such questions in the android general section.

Same problem here. Signal drops quite frequently and for now i like the sense builds which you cant switch to 2G (unless im missing something). With other builds if i switch to 2G its sort of fine but slow data connection.
Same here, I live in holland and use the 2.14 Radio. I don't have a data plan yet (the phone is brand new), so it doesn't really bother me.. yet
we really do need a fix for this
Is nobody havin an idea?

I´m having the same problem...anybody know a cure for this?
no problems here ... 2.10.5 radio
Same problem here, tryed different combo's with wm and Android, radio's etc......signal drops now and then.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Always signal drops here.. 35% of the time. Mesured with battery indicator.. only in Android not in winmo and I didnt find the right radio and rom for less drops.
Thats so strange. About every 10mins i have a totally data loss. Tried different radios and roms. Nothing helped. As i tried 2.14 i had strong echo issues.
i uploaded some screenshots. They're all taken at the same place. So you can see how strange these reception changes are...

Boy I'm glad to see this thread, I thought it was just me!
I am having exactly the same issue, and have done since using android builds. The only workaround I have is to switch on plane mode, and then switch it off again which seems to work for an hour or two. But then the signal goes all wonky again.
I wonder if this is also affecting the battery life. I'm sure I read somewhere once that loss of signal results in more battery use as the phone is constantly trying to locate signal.
I have tried a number of radio/rom combinations with no real change. As mentioned above, if I switch to 2G the signal seems more stable, but the data is unbearably slow.
I'm in the UK by the way.

I have the same problem. I might try the 10.2.5 radio as above?
I had this issue with Android that signal drops for no reason. The trick to my problem? Disable in the Netwok Mode "GSM/WCDMA Auto" and choose "GSM Only". Now the signal should work flawlessly without drops. It worked for me

[Q] HD2 freezing with mobile data use across multiple ROMS. Any ideas?

So my T-Mobile HD2 is freezing up completely (necessitating battery pull) within a minute or two of turning on and using mobile data. Like the title says, it's happening on both ICS and Gingerbread ROMS.
HSPL 2.08
Radio 2.15.50.14
MAGLDR 1.13
CWM 3.0.0.5
Current ROM: Langthang's HD2 NDT MIUI STABLE VERSION 6.0
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498)
Previous ROM: NexusHD2-ICS-CM9-HWA_V2.0
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860)
Both ROMS run well (esp. the current one) except for the mobile data.
I've had the phone for about 16 months. When I first got it in the USA, I didn't trust myself to flash it to Android for the first time, so I had someone else knowledgeable put a Froyo ROM on it. So I can't tell you what version of HSPL he used to flash 2.08 to it. The phone worked fine (except for occasional overheating--it's an HD2, right?), including mobile data. This was in the USA.
Then I moved to Thailand where I didn't use mobile data at all for a long time. Last month I flashed over the old Froyo with the two ROMS (clean install) listed above and have started using mobile data for the first time in Thailand and am now noticing this problem.
More info:
1. Turning mobile data on and not actually using it actively (i.e. just letting whatever few Google things auto-sync in the background) will have it freezing within half an hour. Using it actively will have it freezing in 1-2 minutes.
2. Using a CPU governor (No-frills CPU control) set to the most extreme (“powersave”) keeps it from freezing up the phone for only a little bit longer than having it set to “performance,” so I don’t see the point in using that as a workaround.
I can guess what most people are going to say at this point: dude, you got one of the HD2′s with a hardware overheating problem; sorry, buy a new phone. Well, can’t afford to for a couple months so I’ve been trying to solve it in other ways. And anyway, I’ve stress-tested it with everything but mobile data (heavy use of camera, playing music, videos, and wifi) and no problems. Sure, it sometimes gets warm and might crash very occasionally...but no problems I can't live with.
So why in the name of all that is holy does using mobile data ALWAYS freeze it?
1. Would flashing a different radio conceivably help? Maybe because a different radio would work better with my carrier here in Thailand? (I know, you have to be careful that your radio is compatible with your ROM, else you brick phone. Also, I don't want to flash radio unless I absolutely have to because it's dangerous-ish).
2. Is HSPL version an issue?
3. Could it be my APN settings? Entering the info (minus the DNS stuff; don't know where that goes) from the following site (http://www.flexispy.com/globalapn.htm) stops mobile data from working at all. My carrier is AIS in Thailand.
Anyone who can help me, it's much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
HSPL fine & radio should be ok but was not best for me in asia but not due to overheating of device ...
Do the fridge test, keep it in fridge for 1hr in plastic bag to protect from moisture then activate data & see how it performs, keep it in fridge as much as possible or cool as possible with aircon, fan or ice bed ...
If you get lot longer times before freezing you can be 100% sure it related to heat & mainboard bga failure under heat.
Thailand is very hot and running temps of phones & notebooks are a lot higher here so a weakness is more easily reached ...
As you say you already have experienced overheating I would assume your mainboard is a bit more sensative to heat than most, we have over 20 HD2s in company use & in over 2yrs only 1 handset has had freezing issues & was mainboard BGA issue & new mainboard fixed it.
I would assume the the functioning of data produces more heat in term of cpu, radio stack & battery in a way that heat soaks the device to failure, I would of thought HQ video playback & heavy wifi use could see same fault so some more stress testing may be an idea too.
you on AIS 3G ?
You could try radio in my signature, I have used it in Thailand & asia pacific with great success so maybe worth a try !
I've done a little fridge testing and it does seem able to function on mobile data without freezing up. So obviously my phone's more sensitive than average to overheating (and also because of Thailand's heat), but I still wonder if using a different radio would work better and maybe not push my phone "over the edge."
One reason I still think there might be something wrong with the radio version is that I can never get 3G (only EDGE), even in places where I absolutely KNOW there's coverage. The other reason that makes me suspect the radio is the stress-testing I was talking about before. I tried really hard to make my phone overheat with a lot of processor-intensive stuff and I couldn't.
I really don't want to beat a dead horse, but does anyone else have any opinions or ideas before I mess with flashing a different radio?
P.S. Thanks for the link to your radio, Mister B.

IMO Mr. B is right about overheating motherboard, but couldn't harm anyone to flash another radio version.
Even I'm reservated on this, I wish you GOOD LUCK!
No 3G: Is 3g enabled in phone settings ?, is 3G enabled on your AIS sim card account ?
Trying another radio will do no harm & may help as might using the least resource hungry ROMs ... Android is a power hungry bulk of an OS & most mainboard faults only appear on Android or are worse on android ...
I have same TMOUS HD2 & 3G works fine here so no issues with phone Radios bands as many worry about ...
Mister B,
After writing that huge long post...I might be an idiot.
3g was enabled in my Android settings, but I didn't know it had to be enabled on the sim card. I'll go to a phone shop tomorrow and ask them about it.
Thanks everyone for their advice.
I not know who the idiot but worth checking as I believe if not buying a sim packaged as 3G you do not get 3G without getting account upgrade .
Confirmation either way will be useful ...
Unfortunately AIS website is a very good example on how to have a huge amount of content & over complex account types but absolutely no easy to find useful clear facts ...
Mister B,
1. Went to a phone shop and explained my problem. The guy there told me that he didn't think my phone was compatible with AIS' 3G band...but you have working 3G in Thailand with a T-Mobile HD2. Is your carrier TOT Mobile? Xda won't let me post outside links yet because I'm new, but I looked up the specs on the T-Mobile HD2 and on Thailand's mobile phone bands and it looks like the only carrier the T-Mobile HD2 can use 3g on is TOT Mobile (only carrier with either a 1700 or 2100 band).
2. Also, when I first got my SIM card here last year, I got a regular one, not a 3G one. The way I signed up for 3G was just by looking up and texting a code to AIS to subscribe to 3G service. I thought that was all I had to do. It seemed to work, except for only being able to get 2G. (I'm in Chiang Mai, and I know AIS has good 3G coverage here; I've experimented using my phone all over the city, but no 3G). So it looks like you're right in your last post about needing a 3G SIM card or an account upgrade.
Thanks again for your all your help. Would you mind confirming that your carrier is actually TOT Mobile? It would help me troubleshoot.
I use TOT for 3G (iKool) & DTAC for 2G Edge.
I thought AIS had license for 2100MHz 3G but if on 900MHz then will not work on AIS until upgrade there network.
Thailands 3G is a bit of a bodge effort until licensing is approved.
I would assume your current sim is not at fault & if you activated 3G via sms code it should be 3G active & just the current band being the limitation ...
How I wish 3 network would come to Thailand, their HK network is superb ...
