How much can I get for my g2? - G2 and Desire Z General

So I have a g2 that came from htc and has an imei flagged as a test phone. I was the first one with tethering and wifi calling and have gotten test OTAs since then. I'm getting the mytouch hd. You think my g2 is worth any more than normal?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Personally, I would not want it at all. Never know when they are going to send you a "special" OTA and do something that cannot be un-done.

Exactly. Without proof this is just more BS like the "test" OTAs that went out to like 2 phones a few weeks ago.

This op is one of the ones that got the OTA a few weeks ago. He never made it clear to anybody that it was a special test phone at that time (although he did state it didn't come from T-Mobile). This sent everyone into a tizzy thinking there was the possibility of an OTA for the masses being sent out.
That being said, I'd a pay a small premium for that phone over a standard G2. Risky as far as warranty goes, but that's true of anything you buy used I suppose.

Definitely not crippled. Everything works phenomenal.

I don't understand why this device is worth more, all it has is a test imei that allows for test otas. It's not like it's nand unlocked and can be broken into. No offense to the OP, but once we get the nand unlocked, people that root, won't be looking forward to OTAs, except for new releases of Android instead.

What magic can be done with it? Can it make my mortgage payment go down? Can it make my Ex-Wife disappear? Hell, maybe I would be interested as long as you have proof that it can do magic!

a cop was trying to pull me over, i took my sweet time before i pulled over, even sped up some. when i finally stopped he was pissed. he asked me "why didnt you pull over when i put on my lights, and you even sped up, are you crazy? you better have one good explanation". i replied: "well, sir, my ex-wife left me for a police officer, and i was speeding because i thought you were trying to bring her back". he cracked up, and let me on my way without a ticket.

Definitely get another Evo, unless you want a physical keyboard. I'd be very surprised if Sprint cannibalizes the Evo & Epic that quickly (before the holiday season).
I don't know what's scheduled to be released, but I'd be surprised if Sprint adds anything Android better than a non-4G, 1GHz, 3.7" screen by then.

MY question is how are you eligible for an upgrade already? Is it another line on your account? I would say the Epic looks pretty amazing though I have heard mixed reviews on the Super AMOLED screens outside. And yeah I work at a Sprint store I haven't heard anything about any amazing new phone coming out by the holidays.

OP: pay the $100 for the evo, sell it to recoup the initial and some of the insurance cost, and get the epic, since you're probably going to get it anyway. even though you'll have to spend $100 up front (or in your bill), you will be able to recover some of the money you initially spent on the original device. there's no use in not doing so if you have insurance. i would do it even if i had a touch pro. I sold mine for $150 a week ago. you aren't defrauding anyone if your phone actually got stolen.

Yeah. I read this and smirked a bit at all of the people who were going to throw this "garbage" Samsung phone away and "upgrade" to the HTC experience with the G2.
As a side note, the loose hinge eventually happened with my G1 as well. The screen stopped sitting flush with the rest of the body, and anytime you would use the touch screen it clanked together with the keyboard. Also had some touch screen issues because of it. But, I digress.

Um, hate to tell you, but HTC and T-Mobile have pretty clearly demonstrated their stance of Free Open Source Software. The whole idea of locking us out goes against the spirit of Linux and Open Source. They are taking the work of others, and using it to turn a profit, screw the user in the process.

I understand, believe me. But I got this phone for its speed, which it def has, its support, being HTC, and the root ability, which is not here, yet at least. I need tether, bad. Hate to tell you, but the bug referenced is not a bug-as-in-a-hole-to-be-exploited. It's a bug in behavior, where changes to /system are thought to be successful by linux but actually aren't. Instead of getting a this-is-read-only error, the write appears to go through. And when the cache is flushed or when the phone is restarted it's apparent that nothing was written at all.
That said, work is still underway.

Probably for another year or so, depending on the releases of the phones at the time. If i can get my hands on the new HTC Flyer when it comes out in Canada/US, it might extend my time with the DZ/G2 however.
Until AT&T suckes up TMobile.
Not investing in another phone before that happens, and certainly NOT staying as an AT&T customer once it does.

What 2gigs back and what rom?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
HTC phones can last pretty long. My 3.5 year old Tilt/Kaiser still works great (just some cosmetic dings, and normal wear and tear). And I'm sure there are plenty of folks with much older HTC devices around here. I have a friend still rocking the G1, with another whose G1 just died. Of course, electronic devices can fail at any time. But on average, HTC phones are pretty durable. I expect to get tired of my Vision long before it fails. I seem to be moving to a 1-year phone upgrade cycle lately.
mine is usually a year too but for some reason id like to keep it for longer, bit no doubt that will fade in a month r so
I love mine, the only thing I miss so bad is a Front Facing Cam. If and when HTC releases another phone with a Keyboard and a FFC, which I can use with Wind/T-Mobile, I am going for it, until then, will stick to my G2.

EI22 Quest

So we know that EI22 is out there, as it has appeared on a repaired phone. I just called a sprint store with a repair center in my area and was going to ask if they can flash the latest EI22 but I was on hold for longer than I can deal with right now. Maybe someone else would like to give it a try? Remember, you have to find a sprint store with a repair center, so that should be the first question you ask when they answer. The way I see it, one of those centers will be able to load EI22... and then someone here is gonna be able to dump and be the hero.

Would it be beneficial to ask Lonny where he would have gotten his phone from? Perhaps if someone was in the same area, they could try that same store out?
Just throwing an idea out there...
Maybe they are putting it out on some refurbs and new phones as sort of a test to see if anyone calls CS with problems and then they'll OTA. I just got a refurb this past Saturday and it definitly didn't have GB on it.

So we know that EI22 is out there, as it has appeared on a repaired phone.

Slow down, we don't know that yet... people hear what they want to hear instead of sticking to what has been proven to be true

Asked a friend that works at a local sprint store with a repair center, no one knows anything about EI22...

Because it's fake!!!!!!! Why are people giving this guy any credibility? The release should be up to EJ by now. EC05 came out March 21st....16 days difference. So if we had an update coming it would definitely be from the beginnging of this month.

Seriously the guy needs to make a video of the phone booting up and then going into settings and showing the world what the phone says. Then it will be a little more believable I suppose. I mean he's been offered money for a system dump and hasn't done it. I'm sure he's reading XDA and knows what a contribution he could make to all of us if it's true but isn't doing anything.
I don't think that tactic of calling something a hoax ever works in terms of getting someone to do what you want. In your case, you are basically challenging him to engage the community again. I doubt that he will. I did a pretty thorough inspection for photoshopping and it would have to have been a job well done to pull off that pic. I don't think someone would waste their time hoaxing that.
The RDF is out there... that provides enough corroboration in my opinion.

While epic is a Galaxy S phone, it is not in the 9xxx class. Because our phone has the keyboard and CDMA it probably will be another super setback if ever.

I did not believe it but now I am labeled as being a troll. I rather be a troll than a lemming. When I play B.S. I usually win 90% of the time. This skill is not appreciated at XDA they prefer lemmings to trolls anyday.

A person who unthinkingly joins a mass movement, esp. a headlong rush to destruction.
Ok, back on topic... which was to call repair centers to see what they say. I called the one here and they said they don't have EI22 to load on it. He DID say that they are expecting it and that it should be out very soon. He followed that up though with the reality that Gingerbread was supposed to be out "very soon" quite some time ago.
Why are we still talking about this?
