Anyone know of an app or way to implement a gesture to replicate the back button Its a PITA to always have to go down to the bottom of the phone for back. I'd like some sort of left swipe to hit back for me instead.
Just think of it as a downward swipe to hit the back button and your problem is solved...

Tasker is a popular app in the Market that can be used to perform an action based on a tilt gesture. It can enable you to automate many other things about your phone too. I'm just beginning to explore it myself. It's not free, but pretty cheap. It's a little cheaper of you buy it directly from the dev's website.

I can't imagine a gesture that would be simple and not interfere completely in various programs. How would you swipe left and right on the home screen or in certain apps without activating the back button? If it was on a tilt action, then there goes all sensor based applications.

I think it would be bada** if someone implemented the browser circle control (the one where you drag your thumb or finger in from the edge) into a rom, for use throughout the whole system. Granted, it might only be useful for the back, menu, and home buttons, but am i the only one that thinks this would be awesome? instead of having to reach over and hit back every time, you could just slide your thumb in..I know that sounds incredibly lazy, but oh well..i still think it would be cool....i would use that rom just for this feature...Is it possible?
It can be done by loading a module, but someone need to code it.

no wave launcher allows you to put certain apps in it like the palm pre. i'm looking to have that circle of controls in the browser be universal...for instance, when i am on the xda app, i keep sliding my thumb in to go back, but its not there...
I bought my transformer today after seeing this 'circle' functionality in a review, but can'tfind it?

Since I had no idea what it was I went looking and I just found it.
In the browser go to settings then to labs then turn on quick controls.
I am assuming this is it. I turned it back off instantly but maybe you will like it better than me.

Pick the ebay app and it loads. After pasting the title there, double tap home again and instantly, it flips back to Evernote where I can repeat this process with the description and other fields. Maybe the volume key could flip between the two apps, or better yet, a swipe.
Seeing how I use that technique a million times a day, it would save countless hours over all the other task manager types that always load a display of all (or none) of the recent apps when triggered. I don't know about everybody else, but there's a 90% chance that if I want to quickly flip to another app, it's because I intend to quickly flip right back in a few seconds.
This is such a vital function for me on computers that I dedicate a whole button on my mouse to pressing Alt+Tab so I can flip back and forth very fast. I have become very spoiled by that technique and can't stand doing work on Android just because of its annoyingly slow and painful "task manager" if you can even call it that. TIA!

I am sorry, but you cannot override the home button.
You could try one of the various side bar apps though.
It could be a swipe gesture or anything that requires only ONE step. I don't want to bring up an app selection list on every switch, but just the first time. Maybe a notification bar button could bring up the selector, then a side swipe gesture could flip back and forth between the two apps? It should be simple to write this. I just cant believe that it hasn't already been done? Surely someone knows of an existing app?

The problem is that the part of the screen which will be "swipeable" will not react to touch events anymore.

Yeah. But it could be a small invisible hotzone like many of the task managers do. Swiping is just for the cool factor really. Using the volume button should work just fine for my needs. Would that work? The volume button can still listen to an app thats not in focus because music players do it right? But i guess that would be a problem if one of the switched apps overrides the volume control...? Any suggestions? If nobody has pointed out an existing app with this capability I will start on it tonight. I'm still a newb to Android but, I am majoring in programming so I gotta jump in on something!

if I understand correctly you just want to have multitasking without having to hit the multitask button and then choose the app; you just want to be able to choose the app. I would say something like floating folders would work for you.
I thought that shortcut to turn off the screen by touching the corner once is highly desirable when I can't reach the power button because the phone is lying on the table. Yes, I am that lazy.
Yet, none of the custom ROMs I tried carries that shortcut. Instead, I have to touch the narrow status bar twice in order to turn off the screen. More often than not, I end up touching the clock which appears when I pull down the status bar and, apparently, when I touch the bar. This mistake opens the time and date setting and leads to me shouting and picking up the phone from the table and squeeze the power button angrily.
Is anyone missing that shortcut?

How do u turn screan off by touching corners. Are u sure u are not running a 3party apps for that.

No. I remember specifically liking this one stock function, otherwise the stock ROM sucks.
But my LG G2 is a Korean version.
If you use AOKP you can just put a power button on the navbar and turn it off there, done.
Otherwise, there are other methods posted in this very forum. You didn't look.

I don't use AOKP and I know there are other methods, but I want that particular method.
It's very neat, never misfire, invisible(until touched). Also it is a stock function(at least in the Korean version), therefore I wonder why doesn't custom ROMs include that which quite caters to G2.

I'm on verizon stock, no such functionality and I have not read mention of it anywhere. I imagine if there were a spot where a single touch would shut off the screen it would be too easily triggered alllllll the time. Perhaps if you take a backup and flash back to stock you could demo this for better understanding?
Im on 100% stock TMo and I don't have this function. Double tap to turn screen off works fine for me though.
This rom can do it. One touch on the top right corner and it turns off.

The guy decided to remove it though for the other updates. I have V4.0 and have not left it for the sake of this feature.
Yes. You can actually switch off the screen by double tap anywhere in the status bar. I've tried all area and it just works! By default you need to be on homescreen to do this, but I think as the status bar was part of it, that why it works.

I was just messing around with the settings on my Sprint lg g2. You can also turn off the screen by double tapping on an empty area. I've got some empty space on a couple of my home screens with no apps or widgets, double tapping will turn off the screen.

Try Invisible Lock Widget on Play Store. You set up an invisible widget on your home screen and press that. I've got 12 icons of it all round my clock.
If your like me 99% of your phones had the back on the left and recent on the right. Why samsung wants to be different with this is beyond me. But here's how you can change that.
First, you need root.
Second (personal preferance) I disabled the back lights of the keys.
Do that using galaxy button lights

Second, you need all in one gestures

In gestures, give root access then in in hardkeys, add recent (back and home should already be there) then simply make back, recents, and recents, back.. that's it!
Most people are right handed and back button makes more sense on the right because one uses back button more than uses recents so Samsung got that right.

It's more of a matter of staying the same. While you may be right (no pun intended) most phones are setup the way Google has it. So most get used to this. I've had the s6 since launch day and I still never got used to it. Once I did this it felt much more natural.

When samsung made devices google didn't even exist. Tell me which are these "most" phone that you are talking about anyways if you like on screen buttons the way google set it up, just disable the capacitive buttons and install app from playstore to have onscreen buttons. Make more sense to have the back button on the right though.

I'm sure he's arguing just to argue lol obviously I meant other phones besides Samsung and obviously I'm talking about Android phones not every phone ever made. Since we're talking about the capacitive key layout for Android lol I'm actually shocked he didn't say the iPhone layout is different to. They're back key is in the upper left. I guess that throws out the right handed theory.
Essentially it's driving on the left side of the road and then driving on the right side of the road. One may be more right than the other but once you're used to something it's hard to change that. Especially for the sake of changing. Are used both my right and left hand for my phone and my thumb always wants to go to the left for the back key.

I actually prefer the Samsung layout. Why? Because for me the right button is much easier to reach without having to stretch the thumb than the left and I use the back key much more often than the recent apps key. So the button I use the most, beside the home button, is on the position thats more comfortable to tap on. Makes sense to me.
Samsung got it right. The most used button should be on the side where it is easiest for most people, which is on the right. Not sure why Google has decided to put this button on the left. One of the first things I do when I have a phone with software nav keys is change the back button to be on the right side, closest to my right thumb.
Well done to the op for providing a solution for lefties and Google fanboys, but I add my weight to the fact Samsung got it right. Google used to be about choice, no more.

Actually, if you are right handed, holding your phone with the right hand, will be a lot more comfortable to press on the recents with your thumb.

I was wondering if it's possible to make a back screen app that is on when a certain front screen app is on. For example imagine if Facebook is on, you can hold the phone and slide your index finger on the back to scroll down. Think of it like the psvita's back touchpad. Kinda useless I know since you can just use your thumb on the front but still cool
