If its on froyo you can root with z4 if you on the OTA for gingerbread there is not one click root yet. Use Droid 2 bootstrap it works on froyo and gingerbread where as Droid x bootstrap only works on froyo

Ok, I need to stop you right there. I've seen TONS of people post wrong information on the whole Droid 2 / Droid X bootstrap and what works with what, so don't feel singled out.
Droid X bootstrap works perfectly fine on GB. You just need to disable USB Debugging in Settings first. If you don't, it won't boot into recovery. Droid 2 bootstrap works as well, but if he already has Droid X bootstrap, there's no reason to make him search for Droid 2.

Why, oh why, would you want your recovery to be crippled in any way when you could replace it in 2.2 seconds? http://www.mediafire.com/?g8l7vy0futbc4g5
@op
If on Froyo:
-Start at step two of GB instructions
If on GB:
-SBF back to Froyo (google)
-Root with really any method, nothing special
-Install d2 bootstrapper as I posted above
-Install rooted OTA from TeamBlackHat aka mydroidworld.com
-???
-profit

Crippled? Your recovery isn't crippled in any way whatsoever if you use DX bootstrap. What are you talking about??
People can use whatever they want, I don't care, just hate to see wrong information spread around.
Ok
So I am gonna have to root the old school way, she is on gb. I am mainly looking to get rid of all the bull**** bloatcrap that Verizon loads, she doesn't care about custom roms. She actually likes the new blur. (whatever floats her boat).
You can also sbf back to froyo, use z4 root, then flah a pre-rooted gb leak. Personally that's what I would do

Google the Droid 3 root method. It is very straightforward and also works on the stock OTA .602 Droid X build.

That thread worked for me

need help for friend with a droid cliq

Trying to find the sbf file and the a one click root for a droid cliq on tmobile. Having touble finding the files. Seem like I need to get rsdlite 4.6 but cant find the sbf files for a droid cliq. Also heard of a couple of root programs but not sure they will work on his phone. I believe it is a droid cliq running 2.1 update 1. Not sure, just trying to help him root it. But I don't want to brick his phone.
Thanks
I don't know any specifics about the Cliq; however, Pete's website says that his Pete's Motorola Root Tools works on the Cliq.
A thread for Pete's Motorola Root Tools can be found here in the Droid X General forum.

is there another simpler way?
not really, you can flash milestone 604 ezSBF then root with zergrush
you still have to burn the ezSBF to CD or USB flash drive

The root cd/iso that sd posted isn't that difficult. Make a bootable disc. Boot your computer from said disc. Follow the on screen instructions.
I've done it 5 times now. three dx, one d2, and one d2g.
