I took out the other keys. It's actually pretty easy to take the keys out too. Just get an exacto knife and it will slide right underneath. The keys are only held together in the center, not all around.

wow man. I must say that i'm impressed.
I really like it. you seem more than adept with your epic gaming system!

Ouch that sounds??? Not good...I don't think I could do that...Maybe there's a way to cover those buttons that are not in use, and also disable them

OMG dude.. i am HIGHLY IMPRESSED! Would you think about starting a service, performing this task on other phones?
How difficult/time consuming is it? If we can workout the terms, i would love to have this done to my phone? Also, how likely would it be for us to raise the keys a bit? They arent very pronounced.

I couldn't do it but it defintely works fine. Glad your happy!

@Phen0m
Originally, I wanted to create a replacement keypad. Instead of having the keyboard, you'd open up the Epic and insert the new game pad.
I suppose I could continue work on that, this way I could sell the gamepad by itself to users so they could install it themselves.
But, I don't know how many people would honestly be interested in buying that.

If my effing proxy at work would cooperate I could view it. The website is blocked, but youtube isn't...funny how that works.

that is pretty cool unfortunatly i use my keypad too much and i cant find a free copy of the full droidemu, as iv no credit card to buy off the market.

I'd be interested... as I've been thinking of ways to pull this off myself. The keyboard in it's default state isn't that great for gaming.

I saw this on engadget. You could have waited for the gamegrip being developed for the Epic...

@Xhyperion
The game gripper isn't for me. I was looking for more of a PSPgo type of device. I'm not a fan of add-ons and stuff that I have to carry around.
For example, as soon as the Seidio battery extender comes out, I'm picking that up. I don't want to carry around additional batteries. I'm willing to deal with a little extra bulk if it means that my phone lasts twice as long.
Even though it's not for everyone, this is now the perfect device for me.

I use that keyboard setup on a normal computer and ive tried it with the epic but the other buttons do get in the way sometime so I can see how this can make gaming better I just don't wanna mutilate my baby.

Very cool, I do agree with Xhyperion tho. I dont want to make my baby look crummy with out keys. plus i use the keyboard for alot of things.

Hey, what's your take on the keyboard skipping key presses, as discussed over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782203
Obviously it looks like your keyboard is registering every press. Do you know if you had any problems before you modded it?

My wife doesn't like capacative touchscreens.

So, I have been trying desperately to persuade my wife to move over to an Android OS. She currently has an LG Incite and LOVES the touchscreen. It drives me crazy! She says she hates the touchscreen on my G1 (because she has longer fingernails), she like to use them to touch the screen with. What are the chances of Android OS being on something with a resistive touchscreen? I saw the new HTC Lancaster, but I can't seem to find out what type of touchsreen it has. I just wanted to get from my fellow android fans!
It drives me crazy that she wont move to a capacative...they are soooo nice!
Yeah I agree resistive touch screens suck unless you are using your nail or stylus. As far as Android it is designed for Capacative screens so no luck there
Tell her to use her knuckle
lol! Yea, theres an idea. I'll tell her to use her knuckles.
Refuses to use a capacitive touchscreen.
I'm sure she's a lovely woman, but I say divorce her. lol

I've seen a prototype of a Lancaster, and it sports a resistive screen. Since it's a prototype, can't guarantee if they use the same screen on production products.

So she will leave my G1 ALONE! Shes always messing with apps, and downloading new apps. Then I tell her to buy her own, and she starts *****ing about the touchscreen. "I don't want one, I don't like your touchscreen. I just wanna play with yours."
She says she likes the phone, and the UI, just not the touchscreen. I pray that the Lancaster has a resistive touchscreen.

Or send a bunch of sexy texts to her mother's landline, she won't know whether to be angry at you for making moves on her mother or be impressed that her mother replies to texts via rotary phone.
The Amico Brava runs a resistive screen, and Android. Not sure you'd want to buy a funky brand like that though.
That phone has potential, but the fake Bravia logo makes them look like a cheap wannabe. The phone looks nice enough though. That will be one to follow.
Its very hard to find alot of info on this phone, or this brand. Thanks for the info though, Ill keep my eye on that one.
From what I understand that company manufactures phones for other big brands. Maybe thats why you don't really hear much about them.

Dude, WTF? Am I missing something?

Very Low Profile Bluetooth Keyboards...?

I'm not thoroughly convinced that I need a keyboard with my device, but if I was going to buy one, it would have to be either very small or very thin. Why tote around a keyboard that's just as large as the tablet?
Any ideas?
Of course, there's always this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/8193/
(if it was ever in stock again).
I am currently using the Acer wrapping with an Incase faux-fir slip case, so I'd hope that it would be low-profile enough to fit in there.
I am curious as well. what are the best keyboard/case combis that we can get
If you give me 24 hours I think I may have a pretty small keyboard that may work for us. I just need to test it first to make sure the BT connects properly. Feel free to contact me 'if' I forget to hop on and post findings

Also, a prerelease product info page on an interesting BT fold-up keyboard:
https://jornostore.com/
that jorno is nice but not for that much!!!! you can get a flexi keyboard bluetooth on amazon for around 30
I was considering getting the Motorola atrix keyboard.... i have the atrix so that with bluetooth on the tablet would work fine specially considering the android function buttons..
I have the Moto keyboard (Link) and for the most part it's a very nice unit. The only real issue with it is the massive bump in the back where they put the batteries and whatever else they have packed into it, that and not all the short cut keys work, but I am not sure that is the keyboard.
It's worth the purchase, and is very nice on the plane, but I find myself not carrying it locally just due to size. The Jorno looks like a great compromise for when I am more local but want to slam out a page or two...

Sure, it's not going to be the world's greatest keyboard, but I'm really just looking for decent yet portable. If I really need something more, I've got a Logitech K340 that works great. It's not bluetooth, but Logitech's USB receivers are so small anymore that it really doesn't detract at all.

Indeed sir. If I get access to the KIN's filesystem, then I'll try to make some modifications to Themes, Apps, and maybe Sounds.
Interesting, very interesting.
But on the other hand, i think that skinning is the last thing we should do, if the OS storage is opened.
Trying to open any non-kin-native App and/or the storage to the "user" like crazy peeps could be better.
So i like that "few glitches" instead "reskin"

and I love the thought of windows phone 7 on the kin, even a watered down version would be enough for me. I would just like to see some apps and facebook integration back, that would be awsome. Idonno something like the live blocks on phone 7 with the contact syncing we see in phone 7 or even the non M kins.
calm down, calm down. Putting another OS here is not a piece of cake, and in any attempt, there is the (high) risk of bricking. That including a normal flash, not a experimental space orbital thing.
Also, we dont know if we can replace things around, or just put red instead green in colour things... so slooow down.
who is in the line to do the tests? I'm not buying another kin though! (3 is too much).
I'm all for exploring this rabbit hole as far as it goes, but I agree with JohnKussack that we should calm down about this being the breakthrough for a new OS. It may or may not be. Personally, I think even some small improvements to the OS we have can go a long way, such as being able to add or remove (Win CE?) apps, change the skin, replace the browser, enable flash, etc.
yea your right, just wishful thinking

how many have you bricked xD I think 1st we should come up with a recovery, which I'm sure your opensorce file system could help with
Just 1 one (and was enough, rofl).
I'm kinda .... skeptical yet. Personally, i doubt that a new os is feasible and think that just "filetweaking" is available (which would be OK for testing apps).
On the recovery... that's why i got another one. It's older brother is awaiting in a fridge.
Unfortunately, the mtp->storage wont be an option for it.
One thing I would like to see honestly is the Kin being able to play games. Not through Wifi either. games like angry birds or something.
I might be able to help.

I might be able to do some testing on things. I am new to kins, actually mine is arriving soon, but not new to bricking phones. I have done alot of work with android, and now have a tablet. I use it so much, I am giving up my thunderbolt, and switching to the kin twom to save money on data. I like the look of the phone, but I can't resist hacking away at every piece of electronics that get into my hands. Anyway, I am looking forward to being part of the kin community, and I hope more people get into this phone.

Galaxy S2 Wiimote Gaming Holder

Hey guys,
I picked up a Galaxy S2 the other day with emulation in mind because of the huge screen, the power and the weight of the device. I got the phone, rooted it, installed the latest MIUI rom 1.7.8 which is fabulous apart from a few kinks. The phone is really responsive and fast and it was an awesome buy. After playing around with it a bit, i tried out some emulators. I found that games which don't require any reactions were playable on the device, and others which needed fast action were just really tough to play, megaman, sonic and mario for example. I bet your thinking "Mario? Action? lol!" well i mean action as in its slightly fast paced, you need to have 100% accuracy when playing the game for it to be effective and efficient on the device, which for me it was not i kept missing buttons and stuff, more importantly my hand covered the whole of mario so i couldn't see him which was a large downside.
So i decided to get the Wiimote working on the device, which is why in the end i rooted the device and installed MIUI because luckily the bluetooth stack for the rom supports the wiimote which is great. And like all the previous phones i had (Nexus One, Desire, iPhone 4) all have Wiimote support but that is no good for on the go playing, and tbh its only good when you have a stand for the phone and a good chair where you can watch the device while playing using the wiimote over bluetooth.
This in my eyes was not practical enough for playing comfortably, so i looked into something else, and discovered these:

At first glance you think "Thats clever!" and it is clever it gives a solution to having to hold the phone and the wiimote to play. But not being offensive to the creator/designer or anything but they aren't exactly pretty. I tried to make something too but it was a complete fail, it wasn't secure, it looked horrible and it wasn't detachable, so i came up with something better. I was trying to think of a material which was both durable, secure, strong and customisable enough to build a practical solution. Then it hit me: lego.
I present to you, the Galaxy S2 Wiimote Gaming Holder! It's made 100% out of lego (the structure, that is) and connects securely to to wiimote and the phone. The video will tell more.
Here is the link to the full gallery of pictures on my Dropbox account. Theres a total of 33 images to look through.
I hope you guys like this, I can imagine that lots of people would want one of these hehe. If you want one then post and we can sort something out. Theres a few reasons I posted this because I thought you guys would find this interesting and that this can be adapted for other phones as the bass structure is universal to any Wiimote. So there you go. Post comments, suggestions, views and ratings etc i'm eager for feedback
Haha! Classic!

Thats what I thought until i tried MIUI rom. It won't work on the stock roms or other roms based off the stock (thats an educated guess) as the bluetooth stack won't support it. But MIUI does and also CyanogenMOD when the nighties and final get released for this device.
I think the amazing thing here isn't your holder but that you found a way to get the Samsung Galaxy S II working with a Wiimote (no offence to your holder).
I'll have to put a new ROM on my phone so I can use the Classic Controller and the SNES Classic Controller .
Cool man,,,so does this work with all the games?? u know like gameloft's and other games??
I don't think so. But emulators usually allow to map hardware butons so I will be happy just with them
Technically it works with anything that can map hardware buttons, to my knowledge anyway.
have you seen this? hackaday.com/2010/07/29/super-simple-gaming-controller-for-android-or-iphone
it´s already done!
I've never seen that before, but it looks pretty sweet xD. I still prefer mine though. Lego is probably cheaper and much more detachable, and smaller. Nice find though ;p
Actually I was meaning him to give credits to you untill I saw 2010 on the post's date, then edited. Just my fail, sorry

dude...thats awesome!
I think ill make one with plexiglass. I gotta figure out a design now
i think the question is always posed but .. i want to know ... what program you use to play with your wiimote ? many programs on the market say that "newer samsung like SGS or SGS2 don"t work with wiimote"...
thanks !

Why has google not released a decent keyboard for the N10?

I know most of you wouldnt be interested in one since it is a tablet but I'm jealous of the asus transformer infinity owners who have a nice keyboard/dock etc, theirs even has a trackpad to make it essentially a low powered laptop. I've seen various 3rd party bluetooth keyboards on ebay but none that look too impressive.
I'd definitely be interested in one. That was one of my cons when purchasing this tablet. Something integrated would be sweet!

The best solution I've found was a MoKo Keyboard case.

I've been using it awhile. My review is at the end of my Nexus review.

Best looking one I've seen yet, thank you sir! I like the idea of an Asus dock style keyboard, but the fact that this is in a case is nice.

Its not always the best- after owning it 6 months, it HAS saved my tablet from 3 drops (outlined in my Amazon review), but the loop that holds the closing strap is a tad loose and I'm worried it might tear. Otherwise I love it. Best of all, the keyboard's detachable without clips/knobs/anything that might snap.

I have this case as well, however I have it for only two days LOL, and it is already amazing to use, the keyboard is really nice and the best part of it being in a case is that you can take off the keyboard and use only the tablet . Also it has a really stylish finish, and it's comfortable to carry . Using this thing with a mouse and Complete Linux Installer gave me a very powerful Netbook hahaha
I didn't realize you could take the keyboard off, nice! yeah I'm excited; it's ordered. Hmmmmm linux on nexus 10......... interesting.

Yea, it's really good! I took some screenshots and uploaded here, it's nothing more than chmod and vnc, but 2GB RAM and Cortex-A15 processor is more than enough hahahaha!

Using the bluetooth keyboard, a normal USB mouse plugged on an OTG cable. Rooted. Running with CompleteLinuxInstaller (to boot up Fedora) and VNCing with Jump . Hope this makes this "Linux on Nexus 10" more clear . Hope you enjoy your case hehe

Thats Cool! I love ubuntu on my labtop, definitely going to do some reading and searching! Nice work!
I too would love to see an official keyboard, that makes use of the Pogo pins too, and maybe had some extra cool stuff. Perhaps Google just doesn't want anymore money though or something...
It Arrived yesterday. You guys were right this thing is money. The keyboard is a bit small for long typing session, but perfect for general everyday stuff! Couple of questions: Do you guys just use the nexus charging plug or something smaller? Does anyone know if the magnets on the case mess with all of the compass/ gyros/ accelerometor/ etc?

Haven't had it mess with any of the above. I use the POGO myself, actually.

Great . I typed half of my new one shot today lol (1200 words), I thought the keyboard was small too, until I got used to. And no, I don't think it messes with anything mentioned . Enjoy it!
