overclocking - Desire HD General

Hello , anyone knows how to oc htc desird hd to 1,2ghz or even more?

Yes. Take your phone, take off the SIM and battery covers, unscrew all the screws. Next, stuff the pieces up your nose. Enjoy your new, overclocked DHD!

The most important part is to definitely stuff it up your nose
I will give you three reasons why this question is the most stupid i have heard on XDA.
1. The phone has not even been released yet in 99 percent of places.
2. The phone has not been rooted and we dont even know if it can be rooted.
3. the source code has not been released so playing with kernel aspects is a no go.
Im sure i could think of more reasons, but i cant be arsed;P

Yes, but you need to wait for the kernel source

thanks for the information, i might even understand what stuff up means.

4. We hear enough about the htc desire overheating, who wants to tempt fate overclocking a desire hd? (Although, I don't think there will be overheating problems with the DHD, since it has 45nm processor and a aluminum body which should act as one big heatsink )

You should try checking what is the freq range in the scheduler, and just push to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/
If the max is 1 GHz, we'll have to wait for kernel src + root.

setcpu_2.03 ?

X1 CPU Overclock

Hi,
I was wondering if this was possible, I know its early days for many people with the X1 handset and this may be in the wrong part of the forum, but could someone please advise if this is possible/being worked on?
Thanks,
Phil Rich
I honestly haven't seen it being possible to overclock any HTC phone since like the wizard. I must admit though it would always be nice to get a little extra speed and with this great battery we might be able to get more speed without completely ruining the battery life.
any tool which can overclock qualcomm cpu's should work
search around diamond/kaiser and other devices with the same cpu
I thought the kaiser wasn't overclockable??? If it was i'm gonna be pissed that i didn't do it.
kevinrirvine said:
no NEED TO GET PISSED FOR THE MOD IS WRONG HERE. IT is not possible as of yet to overclock any qualcomm processor period. Pocket hack master and xcpuscaler still don't support this processor type.

xcpuscalar does support qualcomm chipsets, I used to use it on my athena to run at full speed without scaling on occasion, and had it up to 663 (I think) a few times (but it wasn't stable), or was that something else..
wow, somebody's on a lovely rant night..
From what I know, no overclocking for qualcomm, but Rudegar may well be right, he doesnt have 8K posts for no reason.
Plus, te Athena has an Intex CPU
Also, no need to have a go at people if they get something wrong (or they do in your oninion)

Well I never knew this topic would create such a stir, it was only a quick question after all it would be nice to have maybe just a little more power. Had my X1 (Vodafone UK) for 5 days now and even though its a bit tempremental at times all in all its a sweet handset.

I said you can overclock the qualcomm chipsets, I didn't mention CPU at all, mainly because I misread what you'd posted (small screen jolting bus ride etc) and thought you said you couldn't overclock a qualcomm based chipset.

I seriously enjoy your posts.
Now for the OP. The reason why the RAMhack isn't recommended is because it takes away from the graphics. 2.1 and higher use these graphics alot more compared to 1.6 and below. So if you used the ramhack on a 2.1, your phone will run like dog ****. As it has been stated a little bit of research would have told you this. Although not recommended, it is possible.
no ram hack for 2.1/2/2, use fr custom mtd patch. you'll have more space than ever.

Honestly, and I know this is off-topic, but just get Super-D. You're running a G1 (I hope, since you're in this forum), and just because it CAN run 2.x, doesn't mean it should. Plus, you'll save a lot of hair from being pulled out cause you won't have to wait six years for the G1 to respond to hitting the home button.

Knowing that this person does NOT have the technical understanding to implement it (requires patching and compiling a kernel), it makes no difference. If this person *COULD* do that, then that person will come back and we have our daily required COMEDY and get the opportunity to hand out "I told you so"'s. Either possibility, all is good.
Instead of that, YOU and ZEP decided to come in here with your foul handed insults and lies. Do you really believe that that is better? You could have led that person on for a good laugh, or sensibly explained the REASON. No, you decided to take the 3rd option and make a complete ass out of yourself and do whatever you possibly could to create an environment of unfriendliness.
So how about this: DIE AND ROT.

ROFL @ the irony in this post. How does it not make a difference if you KNOW that this person doesn't have the knowhow to implement it? You're purposely directing him to the wrong path, just so you can have your little "daily required comedy"? But wait wait, I'm the bad guy here and somehow spreading "insults and lies." In this case, the lie is better than the truth, and I'd REALLY love to see the insults I wrote.
Do you really believe the person would have a laugh out of having their phone running extremely slow? And you're halfway right, I took the third option and instead of making a complete ass of myself, which you seem to have down to a science, I gave the person another choice they could use to better their phone.
**** it, I can't stop laughing enough to point out the rest of your logical fallacies in the post, so:

REPEAT: GET LOST [email protected]@HOLE and DONT COME BACK!
Everyone is talking that ramhack will eat graphics... but I personally don't give f**k about graphics - I prefer having working phone instead of some godd**n graphics!
In 1.6 times I used to normally take calls while MyTrack was recording, now I can't.
In 1.6 once I've stopped with 1200h of uptime. Now I have to reboot every 24h.
In 2.1/2.2 even market is running out of memory...
Yeah, I can go back to 1.6 but I don't want to leave all new CM features (yup, CM features, not Android features)... It seems like all thinking-of-g1-users-developers are gone to these "awesome, great'n'shining new phones"... Blah.
BTW. What happened with optimalization in android?! Are these assh***es at google trying to force us to buy new hardware? I don't want to change my G1, it's IMO still good piece of hardware.

CM5/6 won't boot correctly w/o graphics that is the real issue (you can go to the pre-cm5 eclair's to get a rom with ram hack included.
However there appears to be ram to be had (without loosing graphics) ..
1MB that is lost can be reclaimed with this patch: http://github.com/ezterry/kernel-biff-testing/commit/0af805ea0e6e769e441ef2e554861fd6b4b5b3ba
before: (using the ebi0 kernel on this page)
Code:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: [b]97700[/b] 94496 3204 0 320
after:
ezBiffTestKernel20101017-ebi0_S.zip(MD5: 4367fe0af2ba87f0d5b4d985f5be3360)
(built from the commit linked for the patch)
Code:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: [b]98708[/b] 28068 70640 0 348
(this works but isn't that well tested so use at your own risk.. also the extra MB will only work on ebi0 dreams; ebi0 magics will have the usual amount of ram as the patch doesn't include sapphire at this point in time)
(@lbcoder: this is effectively that 1 extra MB on ebi1.. there is a mess in the memory layout on these devices)
There seems to be more unclaimed ram (up to 8MB) but its bit harder to get at.. The new radio for the magic may help extract even more (it boots on the dream but has some issues).. So there is hope for a more efficient system (just not the "ram hack")

am i missing something or there really is no custom ROM for Flipout? no cyanogen, MIUI, cronos or anything? the only custom rom i found is (ROM) FlipDroidMod2.1_SoftMod[wip](no blur) ..is that all? i don't wanna complain or anything.. i'm just surprised as i have Milestone and there's plenty of ROMs for that one though it has locked bootloader like Flipout..

it was an auction server like ebay.. some guy bought it last month, tried it and didn't like it so i bought it from him for 238$ which was pretty good since i'd have to pay 415$ if i wanted to buy it by myself from a shop.
here i can find it for 110 euros
http://www.monclick.it/schede/motorola/SM2102AD3H1/flipout.htm
I started forgetting shops and ebay for phones:
- online stores or mobile providers for phones
- ebay for covers, repair kits, batteries and accessories
btw, I'm using it @500mhz with no prob (you can set it to max 250mhz too to save battery) so it can support gingerbread easily
Motorola is quite strange: it uses .sbf roms instead of common .zip ones
So clockwork recovery must be ported and then roms can be cooked easily I guess
With this price it can find a place in many pockets and the physical keyboard is a plus for it

110EUR is a great price.. maybe even a weird price
i'd get it from online store as well but than that offer came up so i took advantage of it.
anyway, it seems to have the same processor (Cortex-A8) as my Milestone/Droid so it might be a good thing to port it from other Motorola device like this. Well that might sound pretty stupid 'cause it might be so obvious.. i really don't know anything about porting, sorry. I also have Openrecovery which seems to be a port of clockwock. first, i actually meant just Milestone, not Milestone XT..
second, TI OMAP3410 is Cortex-A8 based..
OMAP is apparently something like chipset (SoCs) so though Milestone has different "chipset" from Flipout.. both have the same CPU core (Cortex-A8) though the devices still might be running different frequencies as the Cortex has wide frequency scaling range
..so it still might be a chance for a good porting base... i guess..
and the price seems to me suspiciously low, but that might be only because in here the Flipout is expensive.

I just got an unlocked flipout...kind of impulsively when I thought I had lost my phone (less than 1 year into its 2 year contract)....probably wouldn't have if I had read the forum first. But, my old phone turned up....
So, if there's a way to upgrade its ROM, I'm interested. And, I'd be interested in helping....its been a long time since I've done anything like this, but sounds like something I could dive into now (though I may still activate my FlipOut just so I can get data occasionally when I'm not near WiFi...)
The Dreamer.
So.. i have my new Flipout. Gotta tell it's an awesome thing.. though the display is really bad. Anyway, i already had to flash it several times i hated the old lockscreen so i modded framework-res with resources from froyo..but it has some weird issue which i hope get fixed somewhere in the config files.
Another thing.. phone memory. I'm not an app freak but i like my.. apps, ok i'm a freak. Anyways.. i'm already running low on phone storage so right now i'm heading for memhack.. if anyone already done that with Flipout, let me know.

I was wondering about the magic of giving to this release some more horsepower. I've run some tests (apart from my personal impression) and I've to say the tablet slowed down quit a bit after this update.

[GUIDE] Speed Up your G2/DZ

Hi ,
I have used almost al roms for the Desire Z , many are exelent , many bad.. But no-one rom is perfect. For example you can flash CM7 , very good Rom and super fast but the visuals are not like Sense..Or you can flash for example a Sense ROM , very good visuals but not so much ram , and laggy sometimes.
So this guide is for user that want to have Sense Rom's running well , and to speed up their device.
Here there are my suggestions to help you , if your sense-rom is not fast as you want , and it's laggy.
All of this suggestion try for your own risk.
Ok let's start legit..
First of all , do not use live wallpapers , because your CPU will load to much , even if you have overclocked it.
Move your apps-games into the SDCard , in this way you will keep more possible your device "clean"
Overclock your device , alias Desire Z. You can choose between a lot of kernels , my suggest is not to overclock it more than 1.3Ghz or you will have to re-boot your phone many times. I use Unity's Kernel wich allows swap , and overclocking to 2Ghz. And i remeber , to have a clean overclocking you need free ram , or your phone will be not responsable.
Use the v6Supercharger with the option "Mega Ram 2" , this is a very good script and working , i got +30MB of ram with using this script wich is a very good solution if you have a sense-rom like me. link is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
I add if you use the script to not use task-killers
Swap your SDcard , honestly i do not get to much advantages with doing it , but meybe for someone will be interesting
For now this are my small suggest's , when i will have another suggestions i will update the thread

Rom suggestion: RcMix 4.0 by NRGZ , the fastest sense-rom for now with sense 3.5
Maybe you should fix your language and your interpunction.
It makes me crazy.
Or you could use Sense 2.0 (a.k.a. Stock) until ICS is up and ready, as it has good looks AND performance.
At least that's what I did. Got sick of jumping from one ROM to another on a weekly (sometimes even daily) basis just to find one that runs smooth.
Shame, though, really love Sense 3.5.
No offence but this thread pretty useless. Mostly everybody knows about these.
Maybe you should put this in the General section so new users can know what to do.
Just my opinion.
Looks like our new mod will be doing some housekeeping pretty soon.
SWEET THREAD!

You were supposed to open this thread in Android General Thread Section (treaks and etc.), but not here. So, wrong thread section yet pretty useless.

Effing ROFLMAO. Well played, non-English speaking guy, well played.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA App
After trying all these awesome tips my DZ is flying!!! Like..... really flying..................
Yikes guys, take it easy on the him eh?
He's only trying to be helpful, and there are a few things I just read that I did not know beforehand.
"to have a clean overclocking you need free ram"
I have noticed that my phone does slow down when I opened/exited many apps, no matter how much I overclock it. I do resort to using a rudimentary task killer at times to free up ram on CM7. That's the only way my device becomes snappy again. Either that or reboot.
The G2 has a healthy amount of RAM, but can be overwhelmed a little easily.
And yes, our phones cannot handle live wallpapers with ease. You can notice a little lag. I guess the G2 is not as high end as I once thought it was.
I'd like to know from another source before we take the better overclocking with free ram idea as gospel.
Anyone confirm this? Not through testing - with actual facts?

It's not so much that more ram = better overclock but rather more free ram = more cached processes = less calculations needed to be done by the cpu so THEORETICALLY fast processing
It's very useful tip.. for me at least.. ..thanks man..
Same here thanks for the info
It's got some useful tips actually.
But it should probably be moved to the General section.
Thanks op.
his username is xdadevolpers - so obviously this thread should be moved to the brand new devolpment section
hey, I have a tip for OP - I heard that iPhones really are the best, you never even have to remove the battery, they even got rid of that pesky battery door!
