[Q] Will the Desire hardware defect also exist for the Desire HD? - Desire HD General

So I just read at Desire HD Blog about some hardware problem that makes the phone continuously reset.
http://htcdesire-hd.blogspot.com/2010/10/htc-hardware-defect-to-decide-future-of.html
My question is if it will also exist for the Desire HD?
If it will I probably wont buy it anymore, but will you? I mean is there any way of working around it by hacking or something?
thanks

Well it says that this problem is due to the processor overheating. The desire hd has a more energy efficient processor that gives off 1/3 less heat, and i had a desire for 4 months, and overclocked it to 1.3ghz and it got very hot, and i never had this problem....
Its a few defective phones that have been blown out of all proportion, i have not even heard of this before today;/

I had my desire overclocked as well, and never had resting issues, as JupiterDroid said, it must have just been a few faulty devices.

[Q] HTC Desire HD

So over the last couple weeks I’ve been looking in to purchasing a new phone, and to be honest it has been pretty difficult deciding which new phone to get. As I’m sure everyone has, I’ve taken at the iPhone 4 and I have to admit that the apps and such that it offers are impressive. I’m not sure what it is, but there’s something about the iPhone that just doesn’t do it for me though. Instead I’ve been getting pretty excited, like others, about the upcoming HTC Desire HD and although information about the phone is moslty based on rumors I still believe that this phone will be phenominal.
The phone will supposedly run Adroid 2.2 which will allow the phone’s cpu to run up to 2-5 times faster with the OS. This massive change is just between 2.1 and 2.2 and with future Android updates I’m sure that the Adroid OS will only help the HTC Desire HD reach an even higher potential. From what I’ve seen of the original HTC Desire, this phone will be awesome, but if I need a phone soon is it really worth the wait?
So why you asking this in this Blackstone forum? Please read rules before posting..
even if the blackstone forum would be the right place, do you think Rom Development is the right subforum ? I can imagine you want the opinion of other blackstone users. You should try the General subforum
Thank you
Thank you for your advice ! I will put my thred in the right place . Now I will delete my thred . OK ?
personally, i would wait if i could ... the desire and desire hd are practically the same phones with very minor differences (actually that depends on your perspective)
however, i love the amoled on the desire, desire hd has the crap tft screen. but the 1.5gig of internal memory is nothing to frown about either. i find myself always running out of memory trying to install new apps and me trying to remove apps that i dont regularly use just to get myself a few megs

actually they are two very different phones. Desire HD uses the newer snapdragon processors which runs at a more power efficient 45nm and has a more powerful gpu, 4 times more powerful. Desire HD also has DLNA streaming, 4.3" screen, and more internal memory, not to mention a whopping 768 MB ram!!

benchmarks of the desire hd chip and galaxy s are similar , and galaxy s gpu was proved to give only 44m triangles not 90 , 90 m is a big fake ,
Not if you use an appropriate lagfix, i get 2306 quadrant, and yes the droid X has a similiar quadrant but that has to do with the I/O. The 3d is much and much better!!

[Q] Desire or Desire HD?

Hi dear,
I own galaxy s and I like it.
After I saw HTC desire hd, I've changed my mind though.
I'm about to sell my phone and going to get the phone ot desire.
Do you think if I will get desire(not hd), is it too late to get it?
Should I wait for desire hd?
I'm tired of the laggy on galaxy s...
13 days till HD is released, thats nothing honestly.
I've been waiting for months =X
@jorkobe23 The only reason you're considering buying a DHD is because of the lag issues on the SGS? If so, why not wait until the end of the month for the SGS update to 2.2 to see if it fixes the lag issues?
It may save you a lot of money to wait, especially since from your post it seems that other than the lag you're happy with your SGS.
nono,
I love sense ui and I want to have bigger screen.
I heard android froyo is optimized for snappgon cpu not hummingbird.
So many people guess even though froyo will release for galaxy s,
the laggy and gps problem will not be solved.
Idree: Haha,
did you sell your galaxy s?
wait for the DHD, its will be on stock very soon, until the 22th.
dono, for me anyway the SGS is not the real thing, no cm for that device yet, and dono, its made like plastic.

if you want a bigger screen i wouldn't go for the desire because that has a 3.7" screen which is smaller than your current phone, which is 4" the desire hd will have a screen of 4,3"
Desire HD advantages:
- updated graphics GPU (faster 3d games performance)
- bigger screen 4.3 vs 3.7inch
- 8MP camera with real 720p recording vs 5MP and broken 720p
- more RAM and more internal storage (internal is no issue on desire with A2SD+)
- Full aluminum body
- new sense
Desire advantages
- Slimmer, lighter and easier to operate in one hand
- Higher screen density (252dpi vs 233dpi)
- AMOLED or SLCD (Sexier colors and blacks then standard LCD on the HD with better viewing angle)
- semi aluminum frame
- new sense is on the way (either officially or by xda)
i'm personally in love with my dense SLCD screen and slim body, so i wait for the next desire, praying for 4inch version
Haha Thanks for useful information, hamdir.
Hm... I think I should go desire HD cos I heard desire has had multi touch problem, right?

a slight multi touch problem, the desire is dual touch, i'm not facing any issues with games like hero of sparta and emulators
the issue appears with FPS like games for example where you might keep one finger still on the movement buttons and aim with the other
in games like heavy gunner where you have to dual control both left and right guns i faced no issues and i've enjoyed that game
as for the interface no problems, pinch to zoom works perfectly
but yes your right if that is a concern go with the HD (i'm not sure if multi touch is confirmed), the HD is more suited to games anyway because of the much faster GPU
for me i compared the HD2 usage to Desire usage and the size was unfortunatly an issue for me
Ok.. so I'm in the same situation here... and I can't make up my mind between the 2 phones ....
I've read this whole forum and also looked at the 20 best mobile phones at techradar - The original desire is still at number 1.
I like the big screen. I am basically in front of a pc the whole day .. So I can pretty much charge the phone anytime.
So I would like some input from fellow xda users ... which is the best to go for? Desire or Desire HD?

I have a Desire and just got the DHD last week. The DHD doesn't seem like a big enough upgrade over the Desire for me personally and I prefer the more compact size of the desire.
If I didn't already have the Desire, I would be happy with the DHD on it's merits.
@Cranzy: my opinion is that if you don't mind the extra 4mm height and 8mm width, if you don't mind the touch buttons and don't need the optical trackball, if you don't mind the maybe little lower battery life (on other side, on first run i still have 52% battery after nearly 12 hour run, so it looks like a full day with a bit higher usage than usual for me), then go for Desire HD. I got it yesterday, and it's impossible to compare with my old Milestone, the speed is like from a different planet .
Thanks for the info... Think I'm much more leaning towards the Desire HD ...
Ok... the more i read the forum here .. the more I'm thinking Im gonna make the wrong choice by moving to the desire HD and that I should rather be moving to the normal desire ... maybe I should go start reading the normal desire forums ...
Each phone has probably got their own problems...
Will future firmware updates fix most of these little nagging problems ..?
I am upgrading here from HTC diamond .. so both desire or desire HD is a major upgrade ...
Is everybody still saying I should go for the desire HD?
It all depends what you want, but don't forget that graphical performance of HTC Desire is ~50% of the Desire HD or Z.
I really like the big screen and htcsense feature ... i don't mind the battery ... just been reading about the sensor and camera issues ...
Im still leaning towards the Desire HD though
I'm on my second day of my dhd not totally sure if I'm keeping it . Love the screen size and battery life . But its not that much of an upgrade from my desire and I do like the amoled screen better on the desire .
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I gathered from the forums that if you are coming from the desire .. the upgrade isn't really worth it... but for me coming from htc diamond ... it will be
To be honest they are both great phones . Very tempted to keep the hd but will live with my desire till something a bit better comes along or my desire goes faulty . But never the less the hd is a class phone if your coming from something totally different .

Ive set up the proper link in the quote since u dont have permissions yet and welcome!
Thank you!
i saw this as well and im in the same dilemma. if the desire had the processor from the desire HD it would be unstoppable.
Basically they say that the DHD's shorter battery life than the desire (which is disputed by quite a few people on here) outweighs things such as improved processor, larger screen, updated sense UI etc etc...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I don't think they cycled the desire hd battery enough. Some people who have had it for a week+ have been getting very good battery life, better than desire.
It'd be great to hear from users who have upgraded to DHD directly from Desire about their opinions on both devices. It does seem that the only thing techradar thinks Desire is better than DHD is the battery life. But just how much better I wonder? 30 minutes? 4 hours?
I have pre-ordered DHD as I find the 4.3 screen just hard to resist, and I don't mind carrying a spare battery in my jeans pocket. (The battery won't cost you an arm and a leg right?)
I upgraded from the desire to the HD and feel the benefits were well worth it. The battery life tbh isn't that much different to the desire's. I tried every ROM imaginable and the battery life fluctuated from a few hours to 2 days. With drainage issues appearing here and there. Once the UVOC kernels start rolling out and the third party batteries are on sale it really will be a non-issue juicedefender off the market also helped me with my desire. I figure its more teething problems than major issues. I don't regret the move at all.

[DISCUSSION] Choice between Galaxy S or HTC Desire Z

Hey guys,
I am torn between these 2 phones. Which one should I get, HTC Desire Z or Samsung Galaxy S?
In terms of future updates (Gingerbread or Honeycomb if there is), which one is more likely to be updated?
In terms of web browsing, is Galaxy S with stock froyo good enough to be compared to HTC Desire Z?
Need your guys inputs for battery life too.
Thanks and really appreciate any response.

Do you email, text, tweet and IM a lot? Enough to justify a hardware keyboard?
Get the Z.
For web browsing alone, the Galaxy S will probably be better with it's larger and AMOLED screen.
Regarding future updates, I'd go for the Z. At least HTC update their flagship phones (the Z is not, but the Galaxy S has still not been updated).
I don't know anything about the batteries.
Hope I helped you bro.
Certainly bro, thanks!

Don't know, have neither phone
Although I think they'd be about the same. And whichever phone has the faster CPU would probably render the pages faster.
Why not visit a phone shop and test both out. Just say to someone (who works there) that you don't know which phone to pick, and would like to test them side by side.
And be sure to ask them to put a SIM in.
"WHY WON'T IT LOAD ANY PAGES!!?!"
I see. Thanks for the inputs. Is the multi-touch resolved for the HTC Desire Z?
And also, one thing that is bothering me is the hinge. Is it that bad?

I think the hinge just depends on the individual phone. Some people get a stiff (and therefore better) hinge than others. Otherwise, if you get a looser hinge, it *should* only affect you if you lie down or use the phone upside down. Or tweet on a rollercoaster.
I'm going to try and find a shop with a Z to play with it before it is purchased, so if you want, when I come back I'll tell you about the multitouch. Although it'd be better for me if I could install Multi-Touch Visualiser or something on it..
Yeah sure, let me know if the multi-touch is fixed for this phone.
Seems like the hinge is only happening to certain users.
Remind me, what was the multi touch problem?
Sent from a Pulse. Yes, a Pulse.
The z is a better phone by far its built better, its sexier , it can be over clocked to up to 1.9 gigahertz!! And the keyboard feels great and the hinge is pretty stable. And sense is amazing too. the galaxy is an okay phone its got a big screen and its really bright but the amoled makes the colors look off a bit but its still nice but that's not enough to convince me to buy it. Plus htc just makes the best smartphones. Oh and the z has an fm radio

Am not aware of any multi touch issues but the z has true multi touch, it can register up to 4 points at any given time meaning it's also great for gaming. It took me a while to finally purchase the z after hearing alot of discontentments about the sheer weight of the phone and the hinge. I thought that nothing could beat the n1 but after only a couple of me time with my new z, I knew that I'd made the right choice, it has alot to offer and now that permanent root has been obtained it's only gonna be a matter of time before more custom roms are available, we already have cyanogen, evil, paul and villainrom on board.
I'd say the z/g2.
z and hd has true multitouch.

Cool~~ what's holding me back from buying desire z is the hinge man!
I don't know how bad is the hinge.

Because currently I'm using HTC Desire.

What I've heard about were the potential damage to the hinge and not damaged hinges. The new processor is indeed a 2nd generation snapdragon. I did a comparison against my n1 both running at 1ghz. You'd be pleased to know that the z blew the n1 out of the water on linpack and quadrant tests.
How's the GPU in HTC Desire Z as compared to Galaxy S?

Desire HD or HTC HD2

I want to buy a new smartphone. What is the best?
Is there other options because those phones are both nice but there are newer ones with dual core about the same price as those phones. If you want versatility then the HD2 is the phone for you. if you want pure android from the door and dont really want the hassle of messing around then I would go withe the Desire HD. I have the HD2 and i love the phone alot of development for it but it is getting old. I would go with the Desire HD.

Grip of death issue on the Sensation...and the nail to the coffin for the Sensation is that other brands do offer better per dollar value...such as SGSII. lol.
Between HD2 and Desire HD, go with the Desire HD, its a far newer phone with improved CPU and GPU as well as other small tweaks such as the camera, most importantly, a far more superior operating system...HD2 had a lot of issues with the digitaliser...

If I were you I would not consider hanging with these phones. Though very popular phone but...I would put 10% more on the top of my budget n bought the new dual core phones like sensation or GS2.
I got DHD now. I like it but there are couple of other phones more powerful, better GPU and better battery life.
Decision is yours: If no last options I would prefer DHD far better specs than HD2

I'm also tempted to buy a S2 galaxy.
People b*tch about it being plastic but you have very good plastic and bad metal if you know what I mean, as long as the chassis is sturdy.
Also rf-signals (gps, wifi, bt and gsm (still a phone)) pass through plastic more easily than metal.
For one I would not buy a HD2 anymore if it would be your only phone.
Like someone said, hardware issues. Head down to the hd2 forum and you will see loads of people complaining about bad blocks, digitizers etc. things that are not really replacable etc.
As being a 'toy' phone then yes the HD2 is fantastic.
I now have the DHD but I'm still not sure that I like it. I also have a ZTE blade (yes the cheap thing) and it beats the DHD in wifi, gps and loudspeaker (as being able to hear something not like a tweeter on the DHD)
The DHD on the other hand is faster, has a better camera (still seeing pink spot, check a grey wall and bump up colour and contrast) and larger screen (did I say that the ZTE screen was brighter also?).
So it all depends on your needs.
I would love to testdrive a couple of phones and compare them for a week.
There are 2 things about SGS2 which wins over Sensation. It's Super Amoled bright screen and it's light weight!
Downside: very cheap looking phone! seems like bought from a $2.00 shop lol
Sensation: It's got sense 3.0 because it make sense! a bit lagging If I'm not wrong my DHD runs smoother than HTC sensation. > May be they have fixed with the new update!
NOT to overwhelm OP with these ideologies . Ya should have these things in mind before buying your SMART PHONE. Or else you'll end up regrating. Now we say HD2 is old 2,3 months later you'll say to Sensation or GS2. It's all Money and Marketing but on top of that you should consider your own needs and requirements from a smart phone.

I have been a member of the HD2 section of this forum for over a year, and until last week i owned 2 x HD2 phones.
Trust me.....get a HTC Desire!!!!
Owned my desire for a week and it's BRILLIANT compared to HD2 problems.
matt
As few have mentioned the DHD has better hardware spec than the HD2.
What nobody has mentioned though is the screen is way better on the DHD especially in terms of accuracy of typing, thats what i've found anyway...
If they are your only 2 choices defo the DHD in my experience...
DHD is better than HD2,they are uncomparable, but why not another newer and more powerful dual core phone? The two of them are out of fashion now.
I think the Desire HD is still a very good phone compared to the newer generation phones (SGS2, Sensation) and a viable option. It depends on what features you need though.
Why?
-Dualcore does not bring any real advantages right now. When apps really profit from it there will be better phones. + it usually uses more power than singlecore.
So the speed improvement compared to a DHD is very minimal and probably not noticable in general.
-DHD has one of the best custom rom support. From different Sense 2.1 and Sense 3 roms to Cyanogen or MIUI variations you can flash what you want on your DHD. Custom roms on the newer phones are still in early developement.
-Software from both SGS2 and Sensation isnt quite there imho. Touchwiz is well... touchwiz, and SGS2 has some problems with 3d games and overheats sometimes. And somehow the sensation just doesnt feel that smooth (i had the feeling sense 3 on my DHD runs smoother^^) we can only hope updates will correct that.
I could go on. But in my opinion upgrading from a DHD to one of the newer phones is something you should only do if you have more than enough money on your bank.
But you're in another situation. You need a new phone and if money is an issue i think the DHD is still a good option (forget the HD2 its just too old). Its not without flaws but neither are the newer phones.
I will stick to my DHD for at least another year. But if I would be in your spot(and money wasnt an issue) right now id probably go for the Sensation with a good custom rom (they should be out soon with the bootloader unlocked now).
The SGS2 is very good, but there are some things that are dealbrakers for me. For example the screen. Everyones praising it to heaven but i think its just awefull to look at^^ Colors are way off. And stuff mentioned above..

Ah, I'm not alone in thinking that then? Full brightness, looks fine - anything less and the SGSII has a green tint to it. Yuck.
I've got a Desire HD; works very well for me - all the better for rooting and putting on Cyanogen instead of Sense!
HD2 is pretty old now. I would say of the 2 dhd
