Since I got my Xperia X10, I have been following xda forum quiet regularly. I started to notice a trend in the posts of Xperia X10 threads. This trend is commonly known as Kubler-Ross model or "5 stages of grief".
1st Stage: Denial- "No we have Multitouch..........it just needs to be rooted"
2nd Stage: Anger- "F** SE, A**h**e SE, I will never buy their products etc...."
3rd Stage: Bargaining- "OK if Paul starts working on it then we can have the root"
4th Stage: Depression- "I will not be fooled by SE again, going to HTC next time...." or "Iphone has a good operating system"
5th Stage: Aceptance-"Well it does what the box says......"
I am currently between 3 and 4, but there are lots of ppl in stage 2. And they are cursing each other in Android Developement thread. I am not sure how much developement has been done but I can see very well the stages of grief going on. This is becoming a serious issue now
I think the dev should just stop whatever they are doing and make an app, which just say "Everything is OK, it's JUST a phone".
Non devs please state your stage of grief. Only by consulting and more discussing about your stage of grief, will make you feel better. So please write your stage and how many time you click on refresh and how is this effecting your life

i'm at a quasi-state 4. I'm still an SE fan, but since I'm with T-Mobile and need a good Android with the 1700 band, I'm getting my first non-SE phone ever, and picking up a Nexus One.
If SE learns from it's mistakes about skimping on hardware and taking ages for software updates, and makes a good X10 successor, I'll be more than happy to give SE another shot.

You might be right, but let's be honest--if (a big if) SE decided to change it's frustrating ways and really knock it out of the park on a future Android phone, won't all of us be flocking to get it and flaunting our SE fan credentials?
I'll stay an SE fan, but with Froyo out and Gingerbread coming in Q4, and Nexus One being a rooted and well supported phone, I have to put practicalities above brand loyalty when it comes to shelling out $500+.
I'm between 4 & 5. Accepting its comfortably the best phone i ever owned. With equal measure of annoyance that SE have ' gone dark' on us. Ace thread by the way!

i have no idea how much time you been frustrating with SE but for me i already experienced on w960 and x1 now x10 is the third time they made a nice looking and decent hardware device out of the competition because they took a hell of long time to develope their horrible os before they launch the product and have no problem giving their so called flagship product out there with unbearable cripple which is cause by software issue.
so if you ask me do i think they will do it again the next time?
i think they'll not even hesitate to do so!
I guess there is another stage after 5 for ppl waiting 2.2 and other cool things that can make x10 the perfect phone

I think i skiped all those stages, I've been a long term fan of SE and accept them even with their many failings! As for the x10 i love it, its been a while since i've had a touch screen phone (had a p900 then went to candybar phones for a while) so i'm enjoying being back and having a weath of apps at my fingertips. I bought the phone fully aware that it was 1.6 and that SE said it would be in q4 before the big update comes (which I take to mean 'at some time after q4', I've been with se way too long to beleive a definate when they give it!) so i'm happy with my purchase.
As for issues and bugs its had this is all standard stuff with a new anything, especially when its something new for the company too, its something you have to accept as an alpha consumer otherwise you will drive yourself mad with frustration!
Stage two and I'm sending the bill for my anger management classes to SE lol. I hit refresh more times than I can count in a day (at least a dozen times during my morning b m). I need help, I'm going to go for addictions counselling tomorrow. They think I need to go through the 12 step program. It's just hard admitting I have a problem.

Well, i'm probably stage 5 from the beginning.
I knew what i'll buy.
What i don't like about SE?
They are slow as a donkey riding a pig.
What i don't like about N1? Is made by HTC.

I wish i could buy the Motoroi or Galaxy S had at least a flash light like X10

I know full well what to expect from SE after owning the X1 and X2. The X2 is on it's way back now and I am getting an x10 in return. Heck if I could get my money back I would! However, the X10 is one sexy looking phone, you gotta give it that.
I did a lot of research on what the X10 can and can't do, and I am prepared for that, so I wont get angry. Trust me, it's nothing compared to MR1 on the X2... ugh! I would have gone with another brand based on that alone, but we can only hope the updates come complete and pre-tested for the X10. After the mess they made on the X2, I am sure they want to take their time to release the latest updates.
Multi touch? who knows, maybe SE is limiting multi touch on purpose to keep Apple off their lawsuit radar
I have been in stage 5 since a month before i even got it, couse, like iv'e said on several threads here hating everyting, i knew what i was paying for couse i did my homework. And one can not just assume root comes to every device. I happy with my phone, yet though i am starting to get really confused about the so called "may upgrade" and will it contain onefinger-pinch-zoom? I hope so. Cheers!

I skipped the 3 stages in between, as they would ruin my mojo!!!
I would like to thank everyone who helped me with the x10 feedbacks, i know u guys did it to avoid me suffering on SE hands what u guys suffered. I sent the X10 package back, and paid the difference of an Galaxy S t959, that i think i cant go wrong.
I let my best wish for you guys, and at least u made SE lose one customer, even before buying the phone.

Did you look at the Arc, or are you turned off on SE in general? Although you wouldn't know it by looking in the xda forums, but SE is supporting the X10 like any other Android. It seems standard in the industry that every Android phone gets ONE major OS upgrade, and other smaller ones along the way. The X10 just happens to have already gotten its update, while Android released two new updates in the meantime, making our new update already dated. Android shouldn't be releasing updates this fast in the future, and we've all (including SE) learned our lesson about getting a phone with a dated OS to start with.
Also, for future knowledge in the Galaxy forums regarding posting etiquette....You should have posted your farewell in the other thread you already started on this subject called "Hi", because this is not a new topic or discussion. Only start a new thread as a last resort.Especially ones that are not useful to other members. You may think you are saving yourself time by starting a new thread, but instead you are taking time from everyone else by filling the forums with more fluff for people to filter through.
Please don't take this the wrong way. Trust me, other people won't be as polite about it. In fact they can be rude and degrading, but the point is valid. In order for everyone to enjoy xda, we all need to do our part to keep it clean, organized, and useful.

Goodbye. I'm sure your experiences with the Galaxy will be a lot better than what you would of have with the X10. However, it is for certain, once everything is cracked and sorted out, the X10 *will* be considered a great phone compared to others
If it weren't for XDA the X10 would be a pile of crap. Fortunately there are some great people here who have released much of the X10's potential, unlike SE.

How can u recommend Arc to an X10's unsatisfied user? both are basically the same and SE must be the loser here. X10 is a good phone probably yes but I cannot understand yet what happen to the idiot led light feature still not flashing like on my old nokia N80... Htc g1 was upgraded something from 1.5 to 2.2 passing through revisions and it seem 2.3 is next to be the released.... I'm trying to be realist nothing more. I've an x10 just because there wasn't option to buy another brand but I will never buy Arc even when SE would announce about permanent Os upgrades. If you want me to buy another SE device upgrade X10 first, then when it get outdated I will buy next generation Xperia may be dualcore or later.

He wasn't an unsatisfied user. He returned his X10 new after asking for advice here on xda. I myself said that while I LOVE my X10a, I wouldn't get one this late in the game unless he gets a new phone every 6 months because of how fast this technology is developing.

HTC G1 is on 2.2 right now and could get 2.3 soon...
Definitively HTC is the best android partner and next to be offered by my telcom...

OK, well it's a first. HTC should be setting this new standard. They have the longest and best relationship with Google. HTC manufacturers phones for them.
I will say good bye to x10 if just know which phone better. Just have to wait for experts to review new arc,neo,pro.

Smart man! As a consumer, you deserve freedom in the complete context and spirit of open source, even by law are supposedly guaranteed this right in terms of firmware, from ignition (power up the rom, boot load the firmware) to application functionality and presentation, you should be able to do what you will to YOUR phone, being it is an Open source device - primary selling point.
HTC, Motorola and others do this very well, so much better! Atrix has my money with the Tegra 2 dual core, 48gb storage, Gorilla glass, 1080p recording and playback and that awesome netbook to dock the device with running gnome abd from what I understand, virtual box and in effect, OS/X or Windows 7!
Stick your half pie camera and bravia marketing crap in your tight pie holes Sony! If I want a camera, I can get one that is a zillion times better than a phone for a lot less than your Arc, Neo, Pro or Play... haha ****a!

We expected this kind of news, but as the article says, we already went through this heartache before when a Sony Mobile UK employee said that these devices wouldn’t get Android 4.1. Sony Mobile then came out with an official statement a few days later to say that this was an error and that they were “actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices”.
So yeah, it's Sony Dont.Believe being an ass again... which shouldn't be new anyway.
I'm keeping my Xperia PLAY for the next 2-3 years maybe. But when it's time for a phone change, I'm considering Samsung... or LG.

I really can't understand how Sony and a lot of other companys, manages to completely miss the fact that updates ARE important if you wish to sell phones. How long has is been sins JB were released? How many phones are sold with JB, almost none at all. How many can be officially upgraded to JB, almost none.
Google sort this fragmentation out, I'm so glad I'm dumping my Play in 17 days, Sony are being piss heads.
Shame but can't say that I'm surprised by it, can anyone really?
I won't ever buy another Sony branded product again, short of an Xperia PLAY 2 being announced, and even then it would only be because there isn't any alternative to it.
It used to be back in day that Sony products were expensive but you were essentially buying a premium product and could expect a high level of support with it. Remember the 5yr warranties on new tvs? Needless to say, those days are gone. The prices remain high but the quality and level of support certainly hasn't.
If it isn't shoddy workmanship (PS3 YLOD, broken laptop hinges, exploding batteries) for which they will fight the consumer kicking and screaming to deny any responsibility for, then its the total abandonment of products less than a year after launch.
Long may the financial losses for this retched company continue :good:

I can't really understand why Sony rejects to upgrade their 2011 line to JB when it's CLEAR that these phones can handle it flawlessly, as proven by the CyanogenMod and FreeXperia teams with CM10. In fact it's faster than the official ICS from Sony.
In fact I'm using CM10 as a daily ROM, though sometimes I'm quite pissed about the cam and HDMI problems due to Sony, AGAIN, not willing to support their phones neither officially nor unofficially.
Sony: If you don't want to do the job then at least release the cam and HDMI libs so others can do it!!! Sincerely: an ex-customer, as I won't be buying another phone from you.

Don't begin with your stupid anti-Sony campaign. ALL the companies do the same, they show their new mobiles as the most cool things but after one year they will be completely forgotten. We'll have to stand this until somebody understands that is stupid to lose an update while other devices will get it. Android updates should be the same for all devices!
If you name PS3, say that has been 6 years recieving software updates for example. Ah, and the yellow light of the PS3 it's not the same as the red lights of Xbox 360, so don't call it "yellow light of death". If you're gonna say something, say it right.

Yellow light of death (YLOD) was exactly the same as the RLOD for the 360 in that when you got it, 9 times out of 10 your console was bricked. This was due to inherent fault in the design of the console which results in insufficient air flow cooling the circuit board. At least in the case of the 360 Microsoft eventually took responsibility and extended the warranty of the console to 3 years. Sony continued down the path of denying any liability and charging $150 for a repair.

First of all, you're mixing different things, as long as the Sony responsible of Playstation is not the same Sony responsible of the Xperias (how many times i've told you this?), so it's offtopic, Playstation 3 has nothing to do here.
Second, I'm just telling you that is useless to say "I'm not gonna buy any more Sony devices" for this reason because all companies (except one or two mobiles like the Galaxy S series) do exactly the same with its devices, so don't call me fanboy because I think to be a brand-lover is as wrong as to be a brand-hater.

I'd like that Sony updates to JB all the 2011 devices but I also understand that with ICS they brought a good and reasonable support to Xperia users, well, XP excluded.
Sony is launching this year a ton of new devices and the effort needed for a stable JB release to a little part of the users is not a good deal for them. You must admit that Xperia 2011 devices is getting old so they must face that a lot of users are thinking about a new phone, others have a sim locked version and depend of the carrier and lastly there's a lot of people who don't mind about it.
And, well, how many companies are giving better update support than Sony? Most of them forget their non high end phones very quickly. Maybe Sony isn't better than them but neither is the worst.
That's what I think.

Ok, I was hoping for an official update by Sony, but it is also true that the 2011 series is becoming old, and Sony want to update only his last terminal; for the haters, first to talk bad of Sony look how much phone Samsung have and how much would be updated, or look to the lg phone (2x sound new?). Yes, this isn't a good thing, but remember that Sony for now is the most reliable for the update, in fact if I need to change my phone in the next 5 years I will probably buy or a nexus or another Sony phone.

if you wanted all new updates when you boghtthis phone, then you needed to buy a High end device, and not a mid range!
**This post isn't about the Xperia ZL. It's about the mistake Sony made in releasing two phones this year.
Way to screw up Sony. Hardly any public attention is being given to the ZL variant because you decided to release two phones with the same specs, but lavish all your advertising on the glassy backed one so you could market a waterproof gimmick. Sony made so little noise about the ZL version that everyone will ignore it. The developer support for the ZL is probably going to suck. And I'm going to bet you'll provide the Z faster OTA updates than the ZL too judging by how they've handled the launch. On the other hand, HTC is doing it right. One phone, one focus on marketing and support. You hear lots coming out of the Samsung advertising machine about the SG4. Anyone hearing much about the Xperia Z, let alone the ZL? Cricket....cricket.... Even XDA's mods think the ZL is safe to ignore because you can't even find the ZL forums from the main forum page, but have to go through either Devices or the sticky thread in the Z forum.
We all know that Samsung, HTC and Sony will probably stop updating the Android OS version on these phones in about 1 year (approximate). If I buy the HTC One I'm probably going to stand a much better chance of getting developer ROM's than I will on the ZL because you've allowed this phone to become forgotten and ignored right from launch. You should've taken a cue from HTC and just released the Z, and no ZL at all. Instead you've scattered your launch with 2 variants and made sure that we cannot buy both of them on every carrier. Stupid, stupid move. /facepalm. However, the SG4 and HTC One will be available on all carriers.
Nice going Sony. Whoever you have in charge of the "great idea" department who thought releasing two versions of the same phone with different feature sets and bodies but the same specs, only advertising one of them, and then deciding to only release one of them on some carriers and the other on the rest should be fired. Thanks, actually, I already have written their advertising dept, as well as left a Twitter for their VP of marketing over a month before launch. It's too late now. The HTC One and SG4 are all you read about at the top of every smartphone and tech news feeds. Hardly a whisper about the Z. That's going to translate into sales and support.

I agree on 2 points:
1. No point in having 2 phones with same specs (Z and ZL) obviously the Z is far more popular and it seems like a waste of development money and resources creating the ZL when the Z is superior in design.
2. Not enough advertising and carrier support. Still no word on a North American release date and carrier support which is crazy. Sony are missing out on a huge market here by giving it to HTC and Samsung instead. Terrible move on their part.
However I just bought a Z and I think it's easily the best phone I've ever used.
I've used an S3, Note 2 and One X+ and the Z is superior in all aspects.
Sure, the new S4 and One is coming which will be better but for now the Z is the best phone on the market. It's well designed and the Sony UI is fantastic and minimal which I like.

The only irrational fanboy here is you. I don't own either of those companies. In fact I dislike Samsung. I'm considering HTC because Sony obviously still doesn't get it. Whether your report button gets this closed or not, we'll see how your point of view pans out when the Z sales tank behind the SG4 and One just like the "James Bond" phone did. Hopefully Sony will finally learn for their 2014 phone and not fragment their phones into irrelevancy.
I hope your thread will give Sony a lesson LOL.

Thank you, great points. I wish Sony had just scrapped the ZL. Because they're not going to make the Z available on all carriers, but are giving others the ZL instead, I can't see how this possibly could be good for Sony. If gm stopped typing nasty little temper tantrum little boy replies for a minute he'd get that I'd rather see Sony succeed than fail.
Rickard Skogberg (the high up marketing guy who ran the S(E) blog before) said they made two devices because the operators wanted it. Simple as that

The phones will still be available unlocked through Sony stores though.

I'll take that with a grain of salt. Carriers and OEM's have a bad habit of pointing the finger at each other until you can never get to the truth.
The fact they have almost identical specs means that it'll be a case of anything working on the XZ working on the ZL unless I'm very much mistaken. /thread

Ok here we go again.... What should I write this time....
The fact that YOU only hear about the HTC One and Galaxy S 4 (I don't hear anything about the Galaxy S 4 in the Netherlands) doesn't really have to do anything about which phone being better, Samsung/HTC spend more money/time advertizing their products. Heck I can't even remember ever seeing a commercial/Advertisement about a Sony phone in this case, so that's not something from 2012 or 13.
Edit: You can look at this in 2 ways:
1: Your way
2: Like someone said before, some people want to have a choice, some people don't have that much money, some people don't need waterproof.
So which one is the correct way? Answer: There is no correct way, it's all based on your perspective.

And there I thought that you were buying a phone and not a company, in the end who cares how companies advertise their products? If their products are good then it doesn't matter at all. I'd rather be unique be the only one with an Xperia Z, instead of being a sheep and owning a phone that everyone else has. You're missing the point. If a phone has a stronger presence in public perception and is properly marketed then as long as the design and quality are fine, they will sell more. If the phone is quietly launched and doesn't make many waves then there are side effects: Lower sales = less people using the phone. The trickle-down effect to this are things like less likelihood of many people caring about timely OTA updates, possibly lower developer support for ROM's once Sony decides to EOL the Z for OS updates, small number of accessories like docks and cases, etc.

Why do you think that I don't get the point?
The fact will always remain that we can't change anything about the situation. Of course better marketing means better sales.
If you know it better why don't you make your own company and show Sony the correct way (Not flaming you). Sony has been at the top of electronic devices for more then 3 decades so these people must know what they are doing. This is the first phone since from Sony since they were separated from Ericsson so maybe they need to do some more trial and error before things go better.

I was a former Verizon user days away from ordering a Droid Maxx when I learned about this waterproof beast of a phone. It was enough to make me ditch my unlimited 4g (selling on ebay). I'm excited to root this thing and start participating in the discussions here. Its great to see this level of support here. I've been looking over the sticky guides so I think I am caught up on the rooting process and what not.
So, is there anything else I should know or prepare for upon receiving this phone? Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome aboard and whatever you do, do not unlock it for now (and atleast do a TA-Backup). And if you're wondering why or what I'm talking about, do some more reading

For some reason unbeknownst to mankind, the people at Sony thought it necessary to laminate the scratch resistant Dragontrail glass with a satanic scratch prone plastic film.
They completely ****ed it up to be honest.
Yest soft lint will seemingly scratch it so make sure you cover both sides if you hate nasty scratches.

I don't normally do this but I'm SOOOOO excited about getting this phone that I also want to say Hi I should be receiving my Z1 tomorrow or Tuesday! It's an upgrade on my cellular contract :victory: Actually its the first time that I will be getting a current flagship device. I have been an avid Samsung supporter (old device is a Galaxy S2) but because of Samsung's unwillingness and flat out refusal to support the development community it has made me despise them to the nth degree! I will never, ever in my life get another Samsung device ever again! I originally wanted a Nexus 5 but South Africa does not (and it seems will never) provide the Nexus devices (tablets yes, but phones, no). They used too but stopped after the Galaxy Nexus. Trust me, a lot of people are unhappy about that in this country.
Anyway, the next option was Sony Z1 and to be honest, quite frankly I think I would have gone for the Sony anyway as this device is a MONSTER phone! The specs are outstanding and it will definitely be a top tier device for at least the next 2 years until my next upgrade. LOL, to be honest after Codworks and Entropy's praise of Sony, was the final deciding factor for me. I hope Samsung reads this because they lost a loyal customer and the dev community does indeed influence peoples choices, albeit the minority that we are but still, I have spread my hate wings of Samsung far and wide and have even influenced others not to buy them or go with their devices. Anyway, enough with the rants, I'm wiping my feet off on Samsung and that's that.
So proud to be a part of the Z1 community now! I know this device does have issues with unlocking the bootloader and breaking the camera but it has just recently being released so I'm pretty confident Sony will sort it out (as it is their flagship device after all!)
I never flash any of my phones with custom firmware or even stock from a different region until I have done extensive research on the device, so don't expect any silly questions from me as it will be a while until I know I am confident in what I am doing.
Anyway, hope you guys have an awesome day and I'm so exited I don't think I can even sleep well tonight!!
