best android ??? need steps to install - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

im new on this forum, well i was wondering witch android is better, the linux or froyo? i just got my hd2 from tmobile and i want to make it a android phone. also can any one help me out on what i need to do to install android on my hd2???

oh no you didn't!!!!!!!

You should really have posted this in general Android discussion, this forum is for develpment of Android.
But you just need to hard SPL your phone, and follow the instructions posted in the stickies. Not going to bother posting it as it's very easy to find pinned at the top of the forum. Also you will probably want an Evo or Desire based build but that's as far as I can help you, everything else is sort of trial and error.

this should help you

This is getting as bad as the G1 forum

Ban!!!!!!!

I kinda feel bad for how much your about to be owned...
The fist few threads in the General forum explain everything you need to know, and pretty much every build has individual instructions.
Simple answer in there is no 'best android'. Each build will suit everyone differently. Look at the features of each one a pick one you think will suit. You'll probably need to flash a new radio and ROM before hand... spend some time reading and try to get familiar with the whole process.

The best one is the one I use

Do not answer these threads seriously. If anyone wants to install Android then they will read the instructions that have been there forever or do a google search for one of the million pages out there. It's one thing to help someone who is using their own mind to think. It is something completely different to help someone who expects you to do the thinking for them.
In short, dont encourage this behavior by responding to these threads with a serious answer. He violated forum rules by making this thread.

Can WinMo be flashed onto the Dream (G1)

I was given a TMobile G1. I really like the hardware of the phone; however, I detest the Andriod OS. (I know everyone LOVES it, but I'm not among that crowd) My Main phone is a Kaiser. (Which I have a long running Love / Hate Relationship with) I need Windows Mobile, but I love the G1's hardware layout.
Is there a ROM out there (or is someone developing one) that will let me flash Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro onto the G1 instead of this awful cartoonish OS?
Thank You,
Karl N.
Sadly there is no support for those who can't figure out how to search.
I call this a troller

hmmmm true
Android is the future anyway, if you don't like it as-is just stick with the Kaiser. Winmo won't support the capacitive screen anyway.
Hey - Neoobs - Bite Me
Neoobs, I've been a member of this forum for as long as you. I just don't go around flaming people for posting a simple question. And since I was doing so FROM my Kaiser while on a SLOW GPRS Connection, searching the site wasn't really an option.
It was a valid question. Yes, I have since searched and found the other posts.
So in short, BACK OFF! It's people like you that make this place less and less friendly every day.

If you have been watching these forums your first post is identical to many others that were started by trollers. I don't get your logic and the reasoning behind it. You feel special because your browsing these forums on a phone on a slow dial up speed connection? So that means you can post and ask for help instead of search?
Maybe if you had posted around a couple times you wouldn't be seen as a troller. It is people like you that make developers want to stop helping those who indeed know how to search and use the search function.
In short, don't put yourself on that pedestal just because your too lazy to do the actual work.
Please direct all WinMo question/concerns at this thread.
This thread will be closed.
Thank you

How to use these forums - please read

okay, i don't want to sound like a jerk, and i know a lot of you are excited about your new phones, but you guys are making a mess of this place. there are so many threads getting posted up about the same thing over and over, and in the wrong sections, it is getting a little ridiculous. and, your bad habits encourage other people to do the same thing.
there are some rules around here, and you should have all read them
1) post in the right section. here is a description for you
A. general is for general information. you have something to share? post it there.
B. q&a is for those of you that are having problems. have a question, ask in the question section (make sense so far?)
C. wanna discuss accessories? guess where you do that? if you said the accessories section, you're right.
D. development is for people that are doing the coding. it is not for people to ask questions, or to hear about some new thing you heard about. see A and B
E. theme and applications. you want to find/share a theme? an application? this is the place to do that.
2) the most important thing you can learn here? USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. chances are that someone else has had the same problem you have had, and there is a thread about it. LOOK FOR IT. we don't need umpteen hundred threads about the same thing. it gets old, and makes this place cluttered, and impossible to actually manage. why is the same question getting answered over and over and over ? more importantly, why is it being asked over and over and over?
we are a community, and everybody needs help, or can help, or something, but nobody here deserves to be spoonfed everything. do a little footwork yourself. if you can answer a question, awesome, do it. you have a question, look for the answer before asking it.
please
thanks

Thread stuck.
Hopefully there should be some mods with EVO's or better Android knowledge than this Win Mo FanBoi .
EDIT: also deleted all posts between #1 and Jus10o's so that it gets better visibility as it is a good thread also.

Please do not use this thread to bump your post count up, just so you can post in Development threads.
It takes no time at all to get the required number of posts by simply being helpful to other members

Do you notice that 20% of the questions about Nexus repeat 80% of the time?

It's getting kinda annoying to answer the same questions all over again.
To avoid that, I've made FAQ section in Wiki, in which all the super-popular questions like "Can anyone port Copy-Paste / widgets / things from Sense", "Why do I get blank screen after flashing custom recovery", "Running out of space", are answered.
If anyone can format it better, correct/add something, etc - you're welcome, you know, it's Wiki, collaboration tool
So if you feel like you're answering the same question for the 5th time - maybe it's a good idea to put it into the FAQ.
This will surely help, but you have to accept that some people just don't read FAQ's or use the search function, because:
1) They are lazy
2) If they knew that it's a frequently asked question, they probably shouldn't have asked it.
3) They want a personalized answer.
Of course I've been on forums way too long to hope that things will be that easy.
I've meant to accomplish something else with this FAQ - The answer "Read Q7 in the FAQ" is much shorter than writing the actual answer.
Great idea Jack!
I was just thinking about doing something similar. I was thinking more of a troubleshooting guide, but trying to serve the same purpose...

Whats this white thing on the bottom of the nexus one? It's right under the four buttons and right above the usb port.

Okay, since no one on XDA knows how to operate the search function or even read a thread on the first pages of General or Android Development that they post in, I'll make this tutorial.
1. Click this button:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Type in what you think is a useful post:
3. Check the threads that result.
4. If they don't pertain to what you want to talk about, then make a post. Might want to do a few searches.
5. If search is down, at least look past the first thread.
For the love of God, please do not make any more HC threads.
The Nook Color has a very ghetto-rigged version of HC that barely works. We don't have it because the AOSP hasn't been released and the boot.img hasn't been grabbed from the Xoom (more important than the system dump). Another issue is Nvidia hasn't released the Tegra 2 proprietary libraries.
No one on XDA knows how to read apparently. Just a few threads for HC:

Really? 14 threads in General about HC and 2 threads in Android Development (not counting deleted/moved threads).
If you don't want to be flamed here, don't post things that have been posted.
P.S. Sorry to go all out on you, but I and many others have gotten tired of sifting through all this clutter.

Thanks for seeking to be involved. I am sure that TheJesus (non-deity for sure) meant no ill will.
Search can be daunting to say the least as it's not very intuitive - I do know that some changes are in the works for searching at an undetermined time...
Closing this thread to stop flaming.

^lol, but seriously 700 posts and still dont know whats doin.
If you have ask, then I'd say no. A rom is not worth it. If you do your homework instead, then you would already know the answer!
It's like saying do you need to modify a car, probably not. Taste for me has no limit

Mods please move this post. OP is not following the rules...

first i know its wrong section and this will be likely closed rather than moved but anyway.
installing a rom is you choice, i dont have the s5, but if i had i would do so, dude on this soc, this thing lags while scrolling lists and changing homescreens (wtf?) and animations are normally choppy (i used one for about a week). also i dont like touchwiz ui, for me, touchwiz only in note series.(but i would keep in mind a custom stock, since some features are usefull, and the camera app is really good)
If going custom wasn't really worth it, we wouldn't have had XDA. This places exists for the sole reason that someone somewhere thought that his device could do that extra mile, just with a little tweaking. We would have never reached 5.6 million members here if people did not agree to that sentiment.
However, to each their own. If you are happy with your current setup, there is nothing wrong with that. Stay stock or stay custom, the choice remains yours.
