Xperia x10 cam port to evo?? - EVO 4G General

Is it possible to port the camera software of the xperia10 to our evo?? Just a curious question
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

possibly.
Why, what does it look like? (the only way I could check out an X10 right now is to go ask my ex... probably not gonna. ^^ )
You might lose some functionality (like front facing camera) unless someone's willing to get it all worked out.
Remember, when CM got AOSP camera working, it took them a LONG time to get a lot of stuff working, so it would take a while, and possibly someone REALLY dedicated to working on this.

thanks for your reply
I was just curious about it, cause some people said that the camera on the evo is from the same company as the camera on the iphone and what makes the images look better is the software.
so i though about the software of the 8MP cam of the xperia (which i also heard that is pretty good) ported to the evo.
It would be nice if somebody get that tested.

Tango needs Nexus One Beta testers.

Hi,
I work for Tango - the newest player in mobile video calling. Hopefully some of you have been able to play around with our app.
We released our application last week, and have been listening to users on some of the items we need to fix/improve with our application.
I am looking for 5-10 Nexus One users that can help me out with beta testing our product.
The requirements:
1. You have a Nexus One and feel comfortable installing Beta software on your phone.
2. You can devote 2-3 hours every few weeks to provide us feedback.
3. You feel comfortable having a video call with me (I promise I'm not that scary).
4. You will not share new features with our competitors.
I would prefer to find people who can test this weekend - we have a big fix regarding our battery consumption that we would like to release ASAP.
Please message me with the following:
1. Name/Email
2. Availability to test over the next few months
3. Experience with Android
4. Phone/Version/Rooted? etc.
Thanks!
Dmitry
Is a PC version in the works?
We're still working on getting Tango to be the best mobile-to-mobile video calling app before we move on to PC/Mac, but it's in the works.
Won't be much of a video call without a front facing camera, will it?
Tango Beta Testers...
I'd be curious to know how Tango works with the Nexus One as well... it has no camera on the front, so this makes video calling problematic (at best).
Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe they include a "mirror" link....LOL couldn't pass up the pun. Seems you would have to hold a mirror behind the N! to have you face reflect.
I was just using Tango with one of my friends... it works fine! The other person can't see your face, but they already know what you look like anyways Pretty cool, nice app!

Wait, what good is mobile video calling if the other person can only see your shoes? Who cares what your shoes look like. If I am going to video call you, I want to see you, not your Borns.

drivers dont mean **** if you have to install the actual hardware lol...
1. where are you going to find a small camera to install
2. how do you know where to put it? Its not like you can open your nexus and there are a few empty pins that say "solder front-facing camera here"... lol
3. it has drivers great... but for which camera? i am willing to bet that there are more than one versions of front facing cameras out there...
a project like that just screams disaster

FFC mod back camera sucks?

So i bought and installed a FFC, (bought 2, installed both). the font was blurry but i fixed the focus. But the back camera is really bad compared to my old one. i even switched back to be sure. ive only tested at night indoors because its nighttime now, but the FFC version has lots of awful lines running up and down the screen when i look through the viewfinder, whereas the vibrant version is crystal clear. when i take a picture it comes out much better than what i see in the viewfinder but still a bit of the lines. anyone else have this issue? im running bionix1.8 i tested both cams on that and only the ffc version has this issue...
Are you serious? This is the first time anyone has EVER complained about this! Alert the media...stop the presses...call you Senator...and WAKE UP THE PRESIDENT!!!!
post some picture so we can see
Dude, so you spent say about $60 for two replacement cameras, pried your phone apart, drilled a hole, and subjected your screen to disolving fluids but couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread?
no drilling involved.
someone delete this thread. read the ffc thread, as its a well known side effect. still waiting on the rom dev's to get theres so they can really tweak and make the ffc work to its fullest
All I have to day is I sure am glad I didn't do the mod. In all the excitement almost nobody mentions this problem. I know I never saw it mentioned, and I read several walkthroughs explaining the mods and how to do it.

Please DON'T delete this post. Why would we have to read the whole thread for such vital information. That thread is ginormous.
Dude, the ffc is much lower resolution than the rear camera, if you replace your rear camera (which is what it sounds like you did) it's a massive downgrade.

ok, you guys are being too hasty.
First you guys jumped and bought cameras before support was even added.
Now, you guys are QQ'ing because it's not working right, eventhough you all now the devs don' have cameras yet.
Just be patient and wait for the devs to get their hands on cameras.
crying and ****ing on a forum are not going to resolve your problem.
The warehouse is not going to accept returns.
So you might as well keep using your original camera until proper support is added for the FFC.

dude it is suppose to add a ffc to the phone not replace a back camera with a front you should still have a 5mp back cam
the part even said so
Main camera: 5MP
Front Facing Camera: 0.3MP
i there is a problem then it could be a bad batch of cameras or a conflict in the phone,
am haven't done this yet because i don't want to scratch the glass (maybe some one will come out with a replacement part) i want mine to look as oem as possible

I can 100% assure you ALL the cameras where extensively tested prior to shipping. I have been in contact with the CEO of Global for 2 weeks now. The issue with the quality of the pictures is believed to be in the kernal. the i9000 kernal differs greatly from the vibrant kernal. The devs are working on it and as soon as they have a solution im sure everyone will know! just be patient.
Yeah I read a good ten pages of threads and 2 hardware guides and a software guide and watched a hardware video all without a single mention of this.
After all your flaming I did dig a bit deeper and found it, but this is something that should be in caps at the top of every thread.....

This is Why I want a portable cam
This is Why I want a portable cam that could be plugged into the phone and use it as a FFC or as a portable camera head so I can look inside walls and take pictures with the phone as the capture device (would be awesome for my work). Then i could use it as a FFC and not be bothered with trying to redesign a phone and installing a junkie little .3 meg camera

Yes I read it, lets hope motorola send you another bravo.
I thought that you were going to be without your bravo alredy, but I see you can get another one.
So man, tell about your progress with it. Did you get something while you got the phone?
I was desperate because there is another version of android running and we cant still get the camera working for gingerbread.
Gingerbread for me is one of the most important updates. Lets see what ICS got for us.
i dont think we should look at ics much actually i pretty happy with just having ginger bread on this device. Our main concern should be getting the stock camera to work. dont get me wrong fast burst is a quick fix but sometimes the app freezes up on me.

If we had at least an app to take photos at 3mpx it would be really awsome.
I remember that when CM7 was being adapted to cliq XT, there were some apps that worked.
Still we need someone that knows code or something cause i would love to have the 3mp camera back

I would like to do it, but its difficult.
To use my word of the day, yes, this is being "uber" difficult to do. Anyone that want's to see where my phone progress is at can check out FedEx's website with this tracking number. 795366278313 . At the time that I posted this it had just left Bend, OR. on it's way to Texas.
++++++++UPDATE++++++++
I forgot to mention, I almost had the camera working. It previewed, it clicked, it saved to the gallery! But exit the camera and it was gone. GONE! Just poof into nothing! I swear. I took like 20 pics almost at the same time, like 1 or 2 mins apart! Saw them all in my gallery in the camera, exited and went to the phones gallery and nothing! I searched all over the file system of the phone and nothing! No trace of anything. Getting close I think.

But still nothing, defy has more libs camera files, because there are two versions of the camera for defy (green and red lens) so its not easy, I really hope we get it soon.

I've been thinking that maybe should try porting some rom directly from MILESTONE 2, I dont know if M2 have the same problems with different lens colors, but if not it should be easier to get camera working matching some libs.
@BravoMotorola Is there any rom that you can port some rom?
That maybe must be what we need!!!

I don't think it has to do with lens differences. If it had to do with that then I don't think the camera would even show a picture.

I say that because of the files and libs it uses, sometimes you can see some roms which has 720p recording for green lens and not red.
I mean, there are many files in the defy roms to match with the camera depending on the lens colors, maybe in the M2 roms there arent such files and it can be easier to match libs and get camera working.
Just saying, I'll try to port some M2 rom to my bravo and if it works I'll try to match some libs.

Well truth be told I was removing alot of the Libs from CM and replacing them with the stock libs on the Bravo. Was doing the same with the permissions and I think the com and another folder. Need to take note's . My phone is in Texas now getting looked at by Motorola. New tracking number now. 1102783078. This is the one to see where it's at on repair at Motorola it's self. Life update, sold acouple of my old phones and bought a computer desk. Wife happy that she get's her dining room table back, pissed because she lost a corner of the dining room. I say good trade off.
---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ----------
@BravoMotorola
Is it possible for you to get me the Bravo Stock Rom in another format besides...... CRAP! ALL MY FILES ARE DELETED! Back to 1. NEVERMIND! First smart thing i've done in awhile. BACKUPS! Saved everything on 3 CD-Rom's. OK. Back. @BravoMotorola Now as I was saying, Stock Bravo rom in an update.zip format would be great if it's possible. Pretty pretty please! My computer can now look at differences in file folders and make changes to one based on the other. A little faster than me copying and pasting everything.
Another odd thought occured to me. What if we took the entire lib from the bravo and placed it into the CM7? Not combine the two but just take out the CM7 and replace it? I need my phone back now. Ebay another one? Hmm.... Somebody else try in the meantime please and report findings here. Oh Oh try and google some program that will explore the root system of our phone on a computer. Kinda like back in the day there was P2K editor for all of our really old phones (Like all of my Razrs). I don't think P2K works for the bravo, too new of a phone system? I've been back to "school" on ModMyMoto.com for my other phones and there's a Bravo section on it but never really looked into it since I don't have my Bravo at the moment. Pot of coffee on now diving in.

Do you have issues with the Gingerbread camera and dark pictures

Hi,
Since going to Sense gingerbread ROMs, my camera has been horrible in low light pictures. It seems like the flash is firing just a little bit too early. By the time the shutter opens, the flash has pretty much done its thing, and the picture comes out very dark. I have tried every single combination of Sense GB ROM and kernel that is currently available, and I get the same result with every single one. I have also tried all of the cameras available in the Market. I get the same poor results with every single one of them. The only way that I can get a decent low light picture is to flash back to a Froyo ROM, or over to an AOSP ROM. The pictures taken in any Froyo or AOSP ROM come out good and bright in all conditions. I think that there must be some sort of incompatibility with Gingerbread ROMs and the camera in my phone.
But of course just like every other thing with these phones, not everyone is having problems. But there are quite a few people that are. I've been trying to work out whether it is some sort of software issue, or hardware. We all know that there are four different hardware versions on the Evo. And from what I can determine, there are two different types of cameras in use. I started a little survey in one of the ROM threads in development. But I thought that I'd move it up here so that more people could see it and participate. I am hoping that if you know for sure that you are having the dark low light photos problem or if you know for sure that you're not having the problem that you could post information in this thread about the ROM you're running, your hardware version, the camera that you have in your phone, and whether you're having the problem or not. To determine the camera in use, do the following:
Using root explorer navigate to sys/ you will see android_camera and android_camera2. Android_camera is the rear camera. Go into that folder, hold over sensor until you see the options menu. Scroll down to View As Text and that opens the file with Camera brand and model number. Post that information to the thread, along with the other information requested above. I'll start:
ROM: Classic 0.0.4
Hardware: 0003
Camera: samsung S5K3HIGX 8M
I do have the issue
Thank you to anyone that responds to this.

Right. Not everyone on GB has the problem though. I am trying to find something that everyone with the problem has in common. It's not the camera itself. Maybe it's the camera and hardware combination. That's what I'm hoping to determine with this thread.
Tried everything you have tried above with no good results. Sprint store is a waste of time don't bother. I hope ICS makes things better.

Probably true, but I think that I'll give my Sprint store a try anyway. Who knows. They might be able to come up with something. Just wish I had more info to give them going in. You and I both have the same issues, but different cameras. The only similarity is the HW 0003.

I took it to two stores, one said my flash was going bad they replaced it so they say, but that wasn't it. Another store said my camera was loose they fixed that but still the same problem. This one rep was pissing me off because he was taking pictures in the bright ass store telling me my camera was fine when i clearly told him it happen at night or in low light places. And i told him to duplicate the problem he will need to go in a dark room or somewhere low lit but clearly they didn't do it. But you may have a different experience, good luck to you. please post what happens at your store.thx. Oh, also i wanted to tell them so badly about asop and froyo roms working but couldn't.

I plan on telling them about it working well on Froyo. I restored my nandroid from right after I rooted and took a few pictures. Then I went back to Classic and took the same pictures. The difference is huge. But yea, cannot mention AOSP at all.
Also, I'm not unrooting my phone. I installed the latest stock GB ROM. Hopefully they won't dig too deeply into that. I've had really good luck with this non-corporate Sprint store down the road. Hopefully my luck will continue today. Though I'm not exactly sure what I expect to get out of it. I mean I really don't think that the problem is fixable on the phone. But I'll feel better once I've exhausted all possible options.

Sounds like he was trying to avoid addressing your problem by making it look like a non problem. I'm guessing possibly in front of other people so it looked like you were just wining. If they can't replicate it, it must not be happening right?
That is exactly what went down in the store, exactly!

The Sprint store guy admitted that he could see the issue. He had an older Evo around with Froyo on it and he compared and sure enough, there was a big difference. He said that the only thing he could really do would be to order a replacement, but that the replacement might have the same problem or some other problem. So at least he was honest with me.

How about posting your hardware, camera, and ROM...

Multiple threads on this topic, but posting here since this is the most recent.
First, the basics:
Evo 4G rooted
still running standard Sprint Rom (basic tweaks, nothing serious)
Camera Zoom FX 3.2.2
Yesterday I realized that I'm having this issue as well... pictures are certainly coming out darker than before. This isn't the first time it's occurred, but up until now didn't realize it was reoccurring thing. It's further exaggerated when shooting from a lower light area towards a brighter area (example: from inside a car of something outside). No big shock there.
I installed Camera Zoom a few months ago in hopes of increasing the quality of pics (over the stock camera app). Overall, it was very successful. However, for the most part I take pics indoors or under a decent amount of overhead/ambient light. Thus far, no problems. But it seems that the increase in pic quality with Camera Zoom has also brought an increase in darkness to these pics in certain situations. Not so good.
Will try to find an answer.

On Reddit AMA, "THEY" said there will not be any "camera blops"!

What are camera blops and how this will affect custom ROM making, and photo quality in those?
Share your thoughts.
If you mean blobs. Basically drivers for the camera, which are needed when running custom roms to get full functionality.
They said the same about dash charge for the 3.
Okay, if it is so then for me this is the reason for not buying the OP5. Without camera blobs we can't ever get the same picture quality with other ROMs as with OOS. Even worst if OnePlus decide to deliver a broken/bugged HAL2 and HAL3 again. Then we can't use another camera app with all functions even on OOS.
Don't worry we'll get them. Official or unofficial. It's just a matter of time.
Is this really a cause of concern?

Nope it isn't. I own the OP3 from day one and I never can use my own camera apps "Open Camera" and "A better camera" correctly with it.
OP decides to deliver a bugged/broken camera 2-HAL so only their own camera app is able to work with it.
This is since over a year and corresponding to what I read this will never change as OP don't want to fix this.
A lot of people even tried to unbundle the OOS-camera as a solution for other roms but this never worked 100%.

Not working 100% != not working.
We'll get a well working hal3 camera on custom roms. Some things won't be as good or buggy, but atleast we could use the camera.

just "using" the camera isn't good enough , specially that the selling point of all the phone is the camera , and that behind the stupid non-enhanced camera app the OP5 runs , that shooter has some pretty big potential i guarantee that ... why wouldn't they share or publish the camera blobs anyway ? didn't they already share like all the source codes for the phone ? and aren't they supposed to be user and dev friendly ? ... i get disappointed by this phones more n more everyday ...

Pretty sure they didn't release the full blobs for the OP3 or 3T either. They said they don't want companies copying their technology.
