[Q] HTC Desire or Android on HD2 (Loves big screen)

Hello Friends
I am from India. I have been looking for EVO 4g since long time, but its not available in India. finally decided to go with other one and got stuck between HD2 & Desire. I want to have HTC Desire because want to have an Android with joystick & crispy display, but like HD2's big screen, video recording at 30 frame/s and few more features. finally i decided to buy HD2 and planning to have Android on it. I am a software developer and it will allow me to do some stuff for both platforms. Am i right??? whatever i have learn't just because of you guys and want to know your views before i go for HD2.
So HD2 with dual OS will work fine or if i am to choose only one OS (Android my preference) i should go for HTC Desire?
HD2 is great because it gives you so much freedom to do whatever u want. Just look around xda and you'll find threads for Windows ROMS Android ROMS (Sd or NAND installs) and theres even some of the latest gingerbread versions round. Dual booting too is now possible so go with HD2 and use the search bar. Endless possibilities with HD2. you'll love it
Well my girlfriend has the Desire.its a very reliable piece of kit, battery life is great,3.7inch screen,720p recording, you can root and put different builds on it but its a native android device,i have a HD2,Simular internals to the desire,no 720p tho however we do have a duel flash wich is better for taking pictures,4.3inch screen,You can boot several different OS.Duel Boot,Theres no other phone like it,The possibilitys are Endless with this thing however The decision is yours
If you wanted an Evo 4G then you can actually download the Android build for the HD2. It also has the bigger screen and now comes with clockwork mod so you can do anything the Desire can do but with the HD2 you have more options like Miui, MyTouch, Evo 4G, Desire HD/Z, Samsung Galaxy S (Gingerbread) or any other builds you may like, they are all available on the HD2.
in my opinion both phones suck dont buy them at all
htc desire is a useless old phone with bad battery and old version htc sense interface that makes it slow an unfunctional
hd2 also is a winmo phone and changing it to android makes it even worse
bad battery drain
connections issue
and lack of screen color support(256k not 16m) makes the android looks symbian
so if you want to have a real phone wait for evo 4g or htc desire or...
but not hd2

No connection issues for me for HD2 running NAND
No battery issues minus the 1 60mA bug (read your messages and it won't effect your battery life much)
Screen color doesn't mean ****, Android looks flawless. I bet if someone found a workaround for 16m vs 256k you wouldn't even notice the difference.
He was saying wait for the Desire HD by the way --- Great phone, but terrible look appeal, Evo 4G looks like poop. HD2 is the best phone on the US Market, hands-down.

What makes you think the desire doesn't have all those builds? It does... it probably even has more roms available.
Anyways, to the op... if you want to also boot into winmo and maybe wp7 in the future, the hd2 is a good phone. If you just want Android, you'd be better off getting a native Android phone. Native Android phones have more colors, better battery, and overall can run Android better once their rooted and tweaked properly. But they will never be able to run winmo (or wp7 in future hopefully) like the hd2 can.

Guys...why all the replies today to a thread started last August huh ?
I think the OP might have moved on by now....
I mean to be honest HD2 is the best phone for any os. It is a beast with android, a monstar with windows. Big screen and awesome colors, amazing picture quality. All in all it is your best bet. Hd2 is also cheaper than desire.

Why are you on here,i think you contridicted yourself in many ways,You say desire sucks but you say wait for a real phone like a htc desire, you say wait for Evo wich has exacly the same screen as a HD2,The lack of colour support,i cant see that being a major issue, the other thing is its actually 262k,Basically the difference is the 16m will give more depth to photos etc but also consider the resolution and brightness of the screen, I've seen a few 16m colour displays with poor resolution(nokia 5800 for example, its a symbian,Samsung Galexy Spica,an Android, both with 16m)and while the colours look great the image isn't as sharp! Good resolution first, then consider the colours i,4.3 inch and 480x800 Res(this goes for Evo aswell)image quility is better than half the 16m units and nothing is a bad as what symbian is,ive had an Amoled Samung i8910 with 16m and a 360x640 res and that was worse than a HD2 screen,This screen even beats my old Hero, its not all about Colours,Battery i think is the same as windows mo,just depends on the kernal and on most smart phones, battery life isnt fantastic anyway,I think you shoulda thought that post through a little better

Hi!
Is it a comparison of the iphone and Desire HD, or a comparison of the Desire HD and the Desire Z you are after?
As i mentioned in my post. I going to sell by iphone 3Gs and moving to androisd. Currently iam willing to by ethier HTC Desire HD and Z . I am not sure which is one is best
right ok:
Point 1
Desire Hd: 768mb RAM
Desire Z: 512mb RAM
Point 2
Desire Hd: 8mp camera/ 720p video recording
Desire Z: 5mp camera/ 720p video recording
Point 3
Desire Hd: 2nd generation qualcomm snapdragon processor clocked at 1Ghz
Desire Z: Qualcomm processor, clocked at 800mhz
Point 4
Desire Hd: 1280mAh battery
Desire Z: 1300 mAh battery
Point 5
Erm... We don't know yet! hopefully yes
And my recommendation? Go for the Desire HD! Unless you are desparate for a physical keyboard like the Desire z has, or dont like massive screens, the Desire HD has much better specs, and looks a lot nicer too...
I think you should also consider the general user experience. I also had a 3GS (and i loved it but i lost it), and i am now dying to have a DesireHD. I wait but i am not patient...
But testing a Google Nexus One, i realised that the experience was not so smooth, and a few things about Android made me a bit upset (like copy/paste and it looks the DesireHD has no trackpad, the tactile button just below the screens that you always mistakenly touch when you want to write a 'space', and the feeling that i had to push on the screen instead of just touching like on the iphone ).
But i still wait... at least to see if the tactile experience is better than the nexus one ! And the iphone is still much more expensive !

Going to purchase a hd2 solely to run andriod...

Going to purchase a hd2 solely to run andriod, how does andriod run on it? How responsive is it? Does it lag? Are there any issues?
Just need overall feedback on the andriod experience runnin on the hd2...
y dont u just buy an android phone if u wan android?
It would be stupid to buy and HD2 solely for Android. The port is still not perfect, the battery drain high, and there are still many things not working.
If you want solely Android, do yourself a favor, and buy a Desire HD.

I'm using a nexus one I just want a bigger screen
For bigger Screen, with out any other thought you can simply buy a Desire HD, which is far more better than HD2 in all aspects
Using Android as every day system on my HD2, didn't boot in WM last 2-3 weeks.
Battery drain isn't high, for me it's equals or less then in WM. It does lag sometimes, but my friend's native android motorola does lag too.
I would say that Evo 4G or Desire HD would be a better option for android, but for me Evo wasn't an options as Iam not on CDMA, and Desire HD costs 300$ more then HD2 for almost same hardware.
I would love to buy the desire hd but it doesn't work in the US, more specifically new york, an I'm on tmo so evo is a no go...
i'm using android on my hd2 since august, never booted winmo again cause android works perfect for me. no need for winmo for me anymore.
battery drain is high, but when you have the possibility to recharge every evening it's no problem at all.

Uh, I've ran three Android builds (Desire base, CM6.1 base, HD base), and I barely see any problems with any of them. Worst yet is just some lag on the HD build and MMS refusing to work on the 6.1 build.
I got my HD2 solely for Android for $200 w/o contract. In all honesty, it's a super good "budget" Android phone, but like others said get a Desire HD/G2/native Android phone if money is no worries to you.
The galaxy s line of phone have 4 inch screens... or wait a few weeks and get a nexus s. That is going to be Google's new development phone, so newer apps and games will be built to take better advantage of the better gpu and chipset in the nexus s and the galaxy s line of phones.
Or wait a month or 2 and I'm sure there will be another native android phone with 4.3 inch screen.
You should definitely get a native android phone if you're just going to run android. The hd2 only runs a port, and it will always be a port. In the long run you will be much better with a native android phone. I can understand 4-6 months ago getting the hd2 for the big screen... but now there is many more choices out there for android. Also, I'm sure in a few months our devs will be moving on to new devices, and development will slow down for the hd2... at this point I would go for a newer device instead of a phone that's already 1 1/2 years old.... especially if you're not going to use winmo. If you were going to use winmo, it would be a completely different story, as the hd2 is going to be the last, greatest winmo device probably.... but just for android, go for a newer android device that still has a life ahead of it.

I think Android runs really well on the HD2, even faster than some "real" Android phones (Like Galaxy S, which btw feels so damn plastic). But you have to be prepared that some functions might not work (like 720p recording). Ive used Android as my main OS since August without any big problems.

I don't mind no 720p minor issues like that are not a problem...

720p recording does work now.....
I tried Android on my HD2 just 2 months ago and I was totally blown away with the rich application base and customisations that can be done to it. Battery drain wise is manageable with some cpu settings and tweaks. I had a Hero some time ago and I took a peek at the Hero section and was astonished that they are already running froyo roms too! So in that context I think that the HD2 Android development still have a long way to go before developers and chef starts to move on to another device...
Besides, with Nand multiple boot options coming along, you get to choose running various platform on one device like WM7 with Android and to me, that is soooooo amazing!!!
wait for gingerbread and buy nexus1,desire hd is another option but running android on HD2 has its own fun.you will become flasher after few days of buying HD2.
I bought a HD2 a few months back purely to run Android and I haven't regretted it for a second. I've got friends with Galaxy S's and other Android phones, and I wouldn't swap mine for any of them.
There is only one other phone with a 4.3" screen, the Desire HD, but that costs twice (or more) what you can pick up a HD2 for. And with other phones, how many of them have fully unlocked bootloaders? We know that when 2.3 and 3.0 come out the HD2 will get them within a day or so, you can't say that about most Android phones coming out now as they lock them up tighter and tighter. My mate is still waiting for 2.2 on his Galaxy.
I get no lag at all running CM6.1, my only remaining problems are that I'll occasionally get high current draw that needs a reboot to clear, and that if you use the SD card mount thing within the phone sooner or later you'll get data corruption (a consequence of running Android off the SD card and then trying to mount it elsewhere). I wouldn't complain if the battery life was better, but I'm happy to stick it on the charger each night. There's people complaining of battery life on the Desire HD too, that big screen takes some juice to run.
Frankly I don't care at all that we don't install to NAND, it adds a few seconds to the boot time and then you don't notice it. In return you can make a 1 or 2G data img and never have to worry about running out of app space like native android phones do.
a Desire HD if in euro or a Evo if in US would be the best solution for you if you are a simple person and wanted a android phone on a 4.3" screen and wanted it rooted (you would not be on XDA if you were average Joe/Jane)
This is the most obvious solution for the OP.
In my case I owned a G1,G2 (MAGIC,Before the real G2) and an N1 before exchanging the N1 for a HD2.... originally I found the HD2 + WM + Android a chore and flashing this radio, formatting my sdcard this and that way to make android perform the same as my N1.... then I found I could settle for a problem here and there to get the ability to have multi roms and not worry about nandroiding...
I switched from a nexus one and I solely run android. Windows sucks and I have been very happy with my decision. If you know how to use adb then you will be fine

HD2 is a tinkerers phone,if you like tinkering around with different builds and roms then its ideal, solely as an android phone it ok,performance is good, even a bit faster than my girlfriends Desire but dont expect it to be perfect like native android phones and yes it simular Hardware to the desire HD but acording the guys on here in that section of the section of this forum, our beloved sister phone has a phew issues so im gonna say, down to personal preffrance,if it was me and was over there ide get a unlocked Evo 4g but as im in the U.K im happy sticking with my HD2.its still has a thew up on the Desire HD suprisingly
I also bought my HD2 a few months ago solely to run Android. It works brilliantly and gets higher quadrant scores than the equivalent pure Android phones. It also lasts me a good 24 hours with moderate use.
With new clean builds like cedesmith's Desire Spot I really can't see any difference in everyday usage to a dedicated Android phone.
I've just been offered a new phone from work, and to be honest even though that could be a Desire HD, I can't really see any benefits to upgrading, I can use the same sense build on my HD2 if I want and the only other plus is that it has a few extra megapixels in the camera sensor. It's also heavier and a has an annoying little ridge around the edge of the screen.
I think I'm sticking with the HD2 until there is something similar with a tegra inside.

[Q] Nexus One or Desire HD?

Hello everybody,
I'm an happy N1 owner since february 2011. I tried a lot of custom ROMs and now I'm using the last MIUI.
I just bought (I'll got in my hand in few days) a new Desire HD for 299 euro (the price was too good), but I'm still unsure whether to sell my N1 and keep the new DHD or resell the DHD and keep my loved N1.
I don't really care too much about Sense UI, but battery life is really important, as is speed, display and "longevity"
I'll post the same question in the Nexus One forum... so I'll get a more complete opinion.
Thank you all
I've owned a Nexus One and played with a Desire HD, and while I can't comment on battery life the Desire HD was so much better in every aspect.
Considering you have both to hand, why not just use each of them for a week and decide which you prefer? I think you'll quickly realise the differences between the two phones when you are using them.
Actually ... I decided to keep my Nexus one.
The Desire HD is huge... it doesn't fit good in my hand... I don't have the right feeling ;-)
Thank you anyway

Next android

Blackberry are going out of buisness..nokia is rumoured to be interested apparently designing a new os named blacknok

iphones have a lot to answer for,i had this discussion with someone the other day though who has iphone 4..
the end of the arguement was
iphones for people who want an easy phone, everythings ready to go out of the box..easy to use and dont really need to do much(so sheep if we are getting down to it)
android is for geeks.Android phones are pretty simple as well but then taken up a level to development of the o/s
ios isnt open source, bit like a heavily guarded fortress..just in case someone actually does something to it..that makes people want to stop buying every version they release whilst the actualy operating system hardly changes... lol
xda is a pure reflection of...a geek loving site.
Don't forget that the iPhone is also for games..
But imo the smart thing to do is to get yourself an iPad gaming purposes, and pack an Android for everything else
Well I'm a geek and a tech junkie, and no other mobile OS has been able to deliver the flexibility nor the customization like Android..

Same here.
I really love my Android for its flexibility and usability.
I can do so much with it, my girlfriend is jealous on my phone
What I'll be looking for when i decide to replace my dhd are the following:
-Improved battery life
-Quad core
-SAMOLED at least 4"
-Min. 16GB internal memory with memory card slot
-Physical qwerty keyboard (i just prefer a slide-out keyboard)
-Front-facing cam
I know I'm being too demanding--and maybe too optimistic--but imo the specs above can easily be packed into the next HTC..
What do you think?

Well, i still couldn't decide what's for after DHD.. Damn, this phone is already 2 years old and still lots of thing happenning for this phone. Thinking about keeping it for another 1-2 years.
Well, i love galaxy note, but at the same time, i hate the plastic feels. i love iphone4, but the OS sux..
Maybe a 5" screen with aluminium unibody design that's all it takes. Single core or multi core, i don't care, as long as it's snappy.
Still loving my DHD though.
The Dhd isn't old at all..I wouldn't even class the desire old be honest...only classed ad old because New phones released all the time so its phone life in commercial not actual phone life!
Having a LG cookie is being old or tocco...etc
