NEED to unroot my Droid X - Droid X General

i am on official 2.2 update, and i am rooted. now i want to unroot my phone and put everything all back to the way it was when i first bought my phone. dont ask why, i just want to so who knows how? i completely regret ever rooting my phone in the first place, i just want everything to all go back to normal......

well you can only go back to 2.2 OTA. You can't get back to 2.1 now that you have the OTA. Go here to restore your system back to fresh OTA state. Not sure if it will still be rooted or not but i think it wont. Can't help if it doesn't get rid of root maybe check out rootzwiki.com and see if they have a way.

need help. what should i do

seems like my screen in the lower left has gone bad. when i'm trying to type i cant use the x and d keys (keys in that area).
i took it to the verizon dealer and he will give me a new phone but i'm rooted ( he didnt know that) should i un-root (if i can) install a certain rom.
should i even trade it in if the new phone is the updated rom. and if it is can i root it if it is the new rom?
We possibly have a recovery hack to root the new boot loader, its still testing. I would say ditch your root just in case they catch it at the store when you go back.
Just my two cents
how would i get rid of root.
There is a thread to downgrade from root to stock, you can go all way back to 1.5 than to the 2.1 ota update, just follow steps and will be fine
You could download the verizon ruu exe file and load it that way. It should work.
yeah i would just use the RUU instead of having to go through all of the steps to un-root (it takes a while)
could you be so nice to point me to the ruu to download. looked but brought up 3 pages on search.
are the replacement phones rootable.

Erase all Trace

I rooted my Epic 4G with the new Epic Experience Rom recently. I am going to return the phone, but they won't take it back rooted. I couldn't find anything in search. Does anyone know how to erase any trace of my phone being rooted?
Thanks everyone.

ODIN, and an official release, not Froyo.. Use the DI18 Package..
Also remember to wipe your SD card too which will not be touched during install. ODIN will flash over EVERYTHING making it brand new.
Why would you want to return your Epic? I hope not to get an EVO.. The EVO is a good phone and I wanted it when it first came out, my gut kept telling me to wait and the EPIC really is a good phone.

Last time I had to take my phone into a sprint store, I ODIN'ed back to DI18 and thought that it removes root as I've read in multiple posts but apparently it doesn't because the technician said the phone is rooted and although they will service the phone this time, root voids warranty and they put a note on my account to check if phone is rooted if i ever take it back again. My speaker just died, so I ODIN'd and used this to remove root.

When I took it in, they didn't mention anything about root. So either they didn't check or they saw phone wasn't rooted.
For you those going back to stock or are stock and u flashed 2.2 and want to downgrade or resort back to stock use this method.
Rooted/clockwork users skip the first step...
1. Do the one click root/clockwork/etc Here
2. Flash the d118 modem Here
3. Then Flash the zip file Here
4. Then flash the get rid of clockwork zip Here
5. Your are back to stock without using odin yay!!!
Now all links work!!! and added a step use this method to return to stock with out odin.

Perhaps,
If you ODIN to an offical "virgin" Rom you will lose root.. Period. If you dont believe me do it then try and run any app that requires root "like wifi tether" it will not work. There are roms that work with odin that are pre rooted.
What I got from the other thread was Sprint can tell by some method what OS version and build you have been using while connected to thier network... so if this is true they may be able to tell your running an "Epic Experience" build and put 2&2 together that you have rooted.
The fact of the matter is, if you are running software not designed for the phone or not ready to be released and things do not work then they waste countless man hours trying to figure our why things force close on a product that is no longer thiers.
So, it is not hard to see why they do not like people rooting thier devices.
If you ODIN back and still have the speaker problem then it is SAFE to assume its a hardware rather than a software problem regardless of your past programs that have run on the phone.

I was not aware that they can see what OS i've been using. Anyway, they are replacing the phone and said i should receive the replacement at my house tomorrow. Normally all replacements are sent to them this is the first time i'm getting a replacement sent to my house instead of the store.
Are you sure you searched? One of the very first threads in the development forum...

Any OTA updates in the future cause issue to phone

Newbie here.
I just rooted my phone and install Skyraider 3.5.
I love it so far.
My question is, if Verizon sends out an OTA, will that cause any issue to my Incredible?
I have already made a backup for that reason and would I be able to restore it or I will have to start all over again?
Thanks
No.

You won't even get a notification for an OTA if you're on any other ROM besides the stock Verizon one. Don't worry about it
You can block future ota if u want. Using root explorer go to /system/etc/security and change otacert.zip to otacert.zip.bak
Inc SR 3.5, 40GB, 1800mah
www.TOOLBAND.com
good to know.
thnx
WELL, some ROMs will still get OTA updates, but not notifications about it. Also your on XDA, youll get the OTA from here before its even out.
this morning, I saw notification for update and got scared.
The updates were of ROM Manager and Wirefly Backup apps.
Everything is looking good.
I have a rooted DINC with the stock ROM. I rooted prior to Verizon pushing out the latest OTA update, which I believe just included a bunch of bloatware. I'd like to go ahead and receive that update anyway so I can have the latest stock ROM and to stop those pesky update messages from popping up. Currently, I guess since my phone is rooted, I cannot update. So here are the options I can think of:
1. Unroot, receive update, reroot (not my favorite option, would like to avoid!)
2. Get the latest stock ROM with update mentioned and flash my phone via ROM manager with that ROM (where can I get this ROM?)
3. Go ahead and try turning off the updates as mentioned in this thread to atleast get rid of the pesky update messages constantly popping up on my phone.
Any ideas?

My suggestion? Since you're comfortable flashing a ROM, just flash Virtuous 3.2 and be done with it. It's the stock ROM + everything good about being able to root, in one complete package. Flash a nice kernel (ziggy, lou, incredikernel) while you're at it and enjoy some comparatively awesome battery life!
Thanks for the suggestion, that definitely looks like option 2 which was my preferred option.

[Q] Newb Here, Have a Few Questions......

Hey, just bought my Atrix about 2 weeks ago. My first ever smartphone, and i just rooted using the gingerbreak app (lost all my photos) and got the phone setup to install non market apps.
Also, just did the mod to allow the webtop app to work on any hdmi device, thats awesome!!!
I do have a few questions.
Is there a way to get the phone back to stock, or a reason why i would need too?? I noticed that doing a hard reset still leaves the phone rooted.
Can the phone still get updates while rooted?
I just wanted to know incase i had to send it back for any reason.
Also, since i used gingerbreak and modded for the webtop, if att does send an update, say a newer version of Android or Build, will this remove all my mods and root?
Sorry, not very tech when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Don't worry too much. Stick around and when there are updates we'll find out what happens. Usually root access is removed but we always find a way to get it back.
As long as you do not remove or freeze any Moto apps you can still update. If you happen to freeze them, you can just thaw before updates. If you remove them, you will most likely have to flash to stock with either 4.1.26 or 4.1.57 sbf. Also I believe the webtop hack may stop updates.
Instructions are in the forums for flashing back to stock.
Guide here ------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065108
If you had to return your phone, flashing back to 4.1.26 or 4.1.57 should suffice. It's very easy if you follow the instructions. I usually flash back to 4.1.26 when a new update comes out, then use over the air (OTA) updates to get my phone current anyway just to "clean the pipes" so to speak.
You will pretty much always lose root with an update, but as was said, our wonderful devs will get it back quickly.
I dont plan on removing any moto apps. The webtop hack, all i did was remove 3 files, and replace with the 3 new apk's. Before installing the OTA update, could i just add the 3 stock apks i removed and remove the hack apks?
It's possible it may work.
Also if you flash for example GingerBlur, etc., they will remove Moto apps (bloatware).
With the right apps backup is a snap so its nobig deal to flash a stock sbf for updating purposes.

Gingerbread OTA back to Froyo

Has anyone tried going back to froyo from the new gingerbread OTA using the sbf file for froyo..... ?
No, why would you want to do that?
I would imagine the RSD Lite method via pc would do it.
If I root it i want to know if i can get back to stock to be able to take back for repairs if i need too....
Should be able to. I can't guarantee as I'm not going to attempt it myself (new phone in 3 days anyway).
I thought you should be able too also but not sure I wanna try without knowing for sure.....
Well to put it in perspective, I ran the leaked GB before SBFing back to stock Froyo. Then ran the OTA. The ability should be there, dunno why I didn't think to mention this before.
Guess maybe a better question would be can you unroot the gingerbread OTA if you root it using the oneclick method ?
This appears to be the blog of the creator, perhaps contact him. I don't have plans to unroot, if I happened to need to bring it in and not void the warranty, I'd just SBF froyo then OTA again. That will surely remove the root.
Yes you can
I have just fixed my phone via the RSDLite method, i got stuck in a bootloop i couldnt get out of and just flashed back to stock froyo without an issue, ran the OTA update and am good to go, so its extremely easy to do
