Mobile data problems - XPERIA X10 General

Ok, Ive always had crappy 3g on my x10 but i put it down to signal issues, i thought i was in a poor 3g area.
I noticed whilst playing around in the settings that i could set the phone from WCDMA only, whereas before it was GSM with WCDMA preferred.
This sorted the problem out perfectly, great 3g performance even with crappy signal, the problem is that for some reason this means when there is no 3g signal it doesnt just fallback to GSM for voice.
From what i have read on the net it seems like changing to WCDMA only should -only- affect the data connection, not the phones voice connection.
Am i doing something wrong?
Is there a way that i can force the phone to use 3G only for data, but still use GSM for voice?
Thanks

in that case you should set the settings to like this 1. wireless controls 2. mobile network 3. network mode "WCDMA" then 4. network operator then search network tap the available current network what u r using do not select the automatically 5. done
after that turn off the phone remove the simcard for 5 sec. then turn on again wala u have 3 to 4 signals on ur 3g connection....

Thanks for the tip, it didnt work, but thanks

I have GSM/WCDMA selected but data unchecked and still works great

Anyone know what app can manage data and mms? I mean I don't want data connection but I still want mms enable.
Thanks

ouch, seriously doubt that's possible on the x10
maybe deleting the 3g APN or creating a blank one and just selecting the right mms one

Isn't MMS dependent on data?

It is but you can create 2 APNs one for data and one for MMS and after enable/disable the data APN on case by case needs
At least i think it works on rogers because i saw separate settings for MMS only.

I am confused too. Hohoho... But as I remember, previous phones (such as X1,X2,p990) did have this options. Correct me if I am wrong. Because I always connect internet/browsing using wifi. Except mms.

how to force internet connection to use 3G/HSDPA only?

is there a program to do that for windows mobile? so that the connection wont fall back to gprs or edge and always use 3G or hsdpa?
in sierra wireless aircard there is an option to set that.
i think there's an option in setting, personal, phone
go to band tab and change network type to WCDMA and change band to UMTS
it works but now phone call also using the 3G network always. how to set only if making data call?

If you want to do this band change easyly, can use the tools on
this post, if you want the phone change band smartly, better you flash a good WM6.5 ROM.
Check more info on this thread.
i have a similar question but it is related to forcing the phone to switch from 3G to HSDPA mode when active data transfer occurs..
thanks..

APN settings

hi guys, what path do you need to follow so i can enter the APN settings for 3G. and when the 3G button changes to H, this means it's using HSDPA ?
Settings--->More--->Connections-->Connections.
Yes, "H" means HSDPA
didn't manage to find it.
But to use 3G you don't need it i guess.
So i got 3g enabled by the carrier, and my mobile is showing 3g. why isn't it working :S?
These settings are for using Internet, not for calls.
3G = Video Call enabled
i got 3g to work. however sometimes it uses GPRS. how do you disable it (No data doesn't actually work)

[Q] No data connection when switching between gsm and wcdma

Hello!
I'm using Rafdroid HD von my HD2 now for 2 weeks and I'm verry happy with it, i just have one problem (dont know if it depends on de android build or on the hd2 or whatever...)
I'm using gsm all the time because it has less battery drain in stand by, but when i want to use data for surfing etc. i switch to wcdma. on my x8 wich i had before this was no problem, it switched within seconds between the networks. Also the HD2, BUT it doenst start a data connection. i just can talk but no data.
in "wireless and network" the option for wireless data is checked, but the whole option is not clickable and it says "starting" (dont know if it says starting, i use the german version, there it say "einschalten..."
when i restart the hd2 then the data connection is working. so all times when i want to switch the data connection i need to restart my hd2.
is there a way to solve this problem?
sorry, i've searched the forum, but i haven't found anything
thanks and best regards, chris
No one who knows something about this issue?
tried this yet??
enter: *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
go to phone info
go all the way down
now you can manually switch between edge or 3G
(default should be WCDMA preferred)
Thank you, I've foudn this idea before but it doenst change anything.
I'm using the whole day only gsm/edge, but when i need more data (searching something on google etc.) i would like to switch to 3g. after this, back to wcdma. on my x8 this worked well, on the hd2 it looks like it cant start the data connection when switching between the two types of network...

[Q] Can someone please help me enable 2G mobile data?

HI I just purchased my Galaxy s5, and I have noticed that in the mobile data settings, the "enable mobile data" is automatically turned off and greyed out (and can't be turned on again) IF i decide to set my network to 2G only.
I am aware that 3G is faster internet, but sometimes I prefer to leave it on 2G, because where I live 3G does not have great reception so it just adds up to needless battery drain. Can someone help me with this?
I don't know if you understood so, here I am referring to mobile data, in 2G, the slow kind (good enough for whatsapp & viber for me), I want to enable it, but on the phone, as soon as I switch to 2G only networks, the option to turn on mobile data is always greyed out.
If you know where I could contact Samsung with this please tell me I can do that too.

settings>more networks>mobile networks>network mode>gsm only (which 2G as known as edge).
Another option is to go into your dialer hit *#2263# then hit gsm band preference>[7] gsm all. then exit out. after doing that it will be on gsm (edge) only.

yes thats excatly what I tried, but as I told you, as soon as I choose 2G only (The option you refer to as GSM only), the mobile data option is greyed out and I can't choose it.
Are you sure we're using the same phone?
mine is SM-G900F
SM-G900T. the t-mobile variant, shouldn't be much different from the international version. I don't have any issues forcing it lte/4g/2g only. using the service mode in the dialer.

UK VoLTE and VoWiFi EE

Hello,
Got mt XL today from EE and I can happily tell you that WiFi calling and VoLTE work straight out of the box. WiFi calling needed to be enabled in the phone settings but VoLTE was on by default. Top job :good:
For those in the US I suppose this means the phone can do it, you just need your network to have it enabled.

I'm on EE yet it's blurred out the option to use it ?

Doesn't matter, it's enabled by default and you can't disable it.
Ignore the slider, if you make a call you'll see it sticks to 4G and doesn't drop down to 3G
Yep.... Worked straight out of the box for me too,
God this phone is slick
Happy days XD
Great to see an Android phone that is running the latest software and supports VoLTE and WiFi Calling. A true iPhone competitor.
Just need Three, Vodafone and O2 to add support now too
How are people finding the phone on EE after a few days use? Has anyone noticed if the reception is any better / worse than their previous handsets? I read somewhere the top half is glass so the signal isn't hampered by the aluminium.
Also, has anyone ran any speedtests?
I've been running a few days, in the house it defaults to wifi due to the reception being low since I live in a dip on the coast near people who moaned about having masts near them, I still get about a 30-40meg data connection it just prefers the wifi in the house, at work on the other hand I'm seeing speeds around 60meg and reception is great, far better than it was on O2 with my S6/Note 7, but the reception does seem fine and also seems to still work inside big shops more than other devices.
as for O2 getting on wifi calling, it wont happen, they want to force people to use tugo, also it's the same firm that once told me 3G was a failure and would never catch on.
Thanks for the update @Belimawr, if you have wifi calling on is there an icon for it? And does it only kick in if you have poor signal? On my S7 if i have wifi calling on, it calls / texts over that 100% of the time even if I'm in a good signal area.
@FSOP seems to depend on the wifi, it seems to prefer the wifi if the data speed is better than the 4G, if the wifi outperforms the 4G it defaults to the wifi. so my wifi in the house (80meg connection) is always better than the 4G so it will always go to that first, but the openzone we have at work online gives about 5meg so it stays on 4G for calling, so I'm guessing someway it gauges performance to decide how to connect.
as for knowing how you are calling, it seems to be the network thing that tells you who you are connected to, normally it will just show "EE" but when it goes over to wifi calling it changes over to "EE Wi-Fi Calling" it is the same in the quick access menu on the notifications draw.

Great, thanks for that
On my S7 there's an icon, so it sounds like it's a bit more like the iPhone where it changes the operator from EE to EE WiFi-Call
thank you OP. can you also take screenshots of the APN settings that are used? Maybe something could be carried over to Nexus line.
Every time I access the settings under phone (dialing *#*#4636#*#*)info and enable it, it gets disabled automatically. Does anyone have any idea how to fix that?

It's disabled by default on the Pixel with EE anyway, changing toggles won't disable it
