Desire Hd work in canada? - Desire HD General

Does anyone know if there will be desire hd 3g compatibable with at&t , rogers or fido , bell , telus ?

i want to know too

No news about it as of now. You can operate the phone on GSM networks in Canada, but you wont have 3G, only Edge.
On the other hand, the Z will be available on Bell, so you never know.

Yes, 3G will work in Canada.
3G 850/2100, 3G 850/1900, 3G 1700

NVM........

There you go:
http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
and CDMA coverage map here (just for fun):
http://www.cdg.org/worldwide/index.asp?h_area=0#list

There are some reports like this one around. And considering that the european Desire and Desire HD support the same networks, I wouldn't be so sure. Also, from what I understand not all carriers in Canada support the same network frequencies.

Does the touch hd work on AT&T network?? 3g or edge

Please let me know if it works on AT&T..
Thanks.
this has been covered ad nauseum. Learn to use the search function. The t8282 will work for gsm, you will only get edge no 3g
if you get the t8285, and are on the att network in a market where they offer 3g on the 850mhz band, then you'll get 3g, otherwise only edge.
Other gsm operators in the US you won't get 3g, only edge on either model.
As mentioned U need the t8285 for usa 3g...what carrier do U have now?
The Telstra Next G versions will work on HSDPA with AT&T. So if you can source one of these from here, go for it

The AT&T UMTS850 network is the same as Telstra's Next G network in Australia.

Yes but ATT doesn't use the 850 band in all places in the US, though they are trying to move to the band, you'll want to check what band they use for 3g in your area & if not already rolled out, if there are plans to.

International legend on rogers 3g not working?

Hey everyone i was just wondering if it's possible for me to get 3g working on my legend. It is an international legend and I am on rogers canada network. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think it will work. The international version uses a different band (900/2100) I believe.

Thanks for the reply... the back of the box says this:
Network - HSPA/WCDMA (900/2100 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) Which is what i thought rogers was.
Rogers GSM network operates on the frequencies of 850/1900 MHz so your 3g should work. Are you running stock rom or a custom rom? Do you know if your phone is rooted? If it's rooted and or you are running a custom rom then make sure your are running the last radio for your device..
Rogers uses 850/1900 HSPA bands not 900/2100 HSPA bands.
You will only get EDGE data.

Hmm that's a shame... would you happen to know if it could be used on any other networks with 3g? like wind?

WIND uses 1700 AWS frequency, no providers in Canada use those two frequencies (and god knows why NCIX and other stores are selling the European version to Canadians.) You should really read up on these things before buying a phone.
yeah thanks... i was never told it was an international phone.

[Q] MT3GS on Rogers

I just bought a My Touch 3G Slide on eBay. I got it unlocked in an hour using cellunlock.net for $10 and got it all setup. However, now I'm noticing that it never goes into 3G, just EDGE.
I searched to find if it could even work with Rogers' 3G network and I'm even more confused. So does it work with Rogers' 3G?
I've also seen posts that it works on HSPA. I've used the APNs for Rogers' HSPA and still I'm getting just EDGE. Do I have to update my radio, use CM6 or something?
Sorry, I'm new to the MT3GS. I have a MT3G/Magic and I thought the new one would be pretty much the same except with a keyboard.
I *think* that Roger's uses the AT&T bands for 3G, not T-Mobile. Sorry.

thats correct, Att and Rodgers uses the 1900mhz band and the mt3gs only has the 1700 NA band and the 850/2100mhz EU bands
That sucks. So it won't work on HSPA either then? I though Rogers offers one of those USB modems that works on 2100MHz HSPDA. Will that work with the MT3GS?

It has the 2100mhz band, but that is so you can have 3G when you go to europe. Rogers only broadcasts 1900mhz in CA.
Damn. Oh well, my wife won't know the difference between EDGE and 3G anyway. Thanks.
sorry i don't belong in this forum but how do you guys explain the g1 having 3g then its a tmobile phone does it have a att frequency for no reason?
Rogers actually sold G1s so they probably got their own version that will work on their network.

unlocked g1's from the US work on rogers network.
Beats me. The myTouch 3G Slide I got from the US works too just not on 3G but on Edge.

OK, I finally get that the frequency band is a hardware thing and that Rogers and T-Mobile use different bands.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
So is it possible to change the actual cell phone radio chip and write a ROM that will work with it? I realize it's crazy, but with all the Android development going on, you'd think someone would have tired to get some device that only worked with T-Mobile to work on At&t.

[Ask] How to enabling 3G/hsdpa capped?

I bought this HTC Aria from USA and use it at my country (Indonesia) But unfortunately the signal is capped to search only gprs or edge, cannot hooked to 3G or hsdpa network..
I also have the asian market Aria, that works perfect in "wcdma only" netwotk. It don't have at&t logo on the upper right screen.
Question is how to make this at&t Aria working on my country wcdma network, bcoz I think that hardware already supported.. I just don't know how to hack it
I believe that its all about software or radio file or something like that , so I put my question here in this sub thread.. So sorry if I do a wrong post.

I think it is more a frequency issue than a lock issue. This is a world phone and no frequencies are locked. But if your carrier doesn't use the same 3G frequencies, it will not work on 3G. The 3G frequencies for the Aria are 850mhz and 1900mhz. Your carrier is probably using 900mhz and 2100mhz for 3G. Your only fix (if this is your issue) is to either buy another phone or change carriers.
Not to threadjack, but do any US carriers use the [apparenlty] more common 900/2100mhz for 3G?

Nope. Neither AT&T or T-Mobile use 900/2100 for their 3G frequencies. AT&T uses 850/1900 and T-Mobile uses 1700(AWS).
The Aria should work
HSPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS/GSM; Dual Mode UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (1900/850MHZ) & GSM/GPRS/EDGE (Quad band 850/900/1800/1900MHZ); HSDPA/UMTS (3GPP Release 5 Compliant; 7.2 Mbps Enabled) EGPRS Functionality

It's supposed to be a quad band.
No the HTC aria is not quadband for 3g or hsdpa. Basically there is a US versiont the 850/1900 . In Taiwan they released another version with the 900/2100. So if where you live doesn't have a place that uses the 850/1900 your basically stuck w/ 2g speeds.

Will the UK version work in Canada?

Hey guys,
Looking at pre-ordering the unlocked version of the DVP from Clove but I'm not sure whether it is going to work in Canada =/.
I've looked at all the Canadian cell phone providers (Telus, Fido, Bell, Rogers) and it doesn't seem like they are compatible with the 3G band on the Dell Venue Pro (900/2100).
Canadian providers seem to require 850/1900 or 1700.
So uh...is it worth buying the phone? Anyone think it will work?
Does the phone need to be 3G compatible to work? (Telus seems to say that your phone NEEDS to be 3G+ compatible).
Thanks,
-Sean

is 3G necessary for smartphones?
I've never had a smartphone before. right now I'm just using an old flip phone.
Would the phone need to have 3G in order for me to bring it to a carrier and add a sim card + plan?

Yea, 3G would be pretty much a necessity, as the next best available connection you would get is edge, which is much slower.
For $989 this site claims to have a Telstra NextG compatible version up for grabs:
http://www.mobicity.com.au/dell-venue-pro.html
I have been using a Telstra HD2 on Telus which gives me 3G+ for a while so I would assume this one would also work. But then again I could be wrong as the bands don't look right..
So it does work if i only use for 2G cell phone service with Fido (no internet), right?
I can use WIFI only.

no your wroung,
you need 850/1900 UMTS/HSPA if you want to use rogers, fido, bell, telus, virgin, koodo, on 3g
you need 850/1900 GSM if you want to use rogers/fido with no 3g
if you want to use wind mobile you need 1700/2100 UMTS/HSPA (same as t-mobile)

well my point was that it has no supported 3G bands.
I want to take full advantage of 3G.
Finally!
Got official info!
http://www.dell.com/us/p/mobile-venue-pro/pd
Bands
UMTS 900/1700/2100
GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
There's that 1700/2100 that I need!
Yay!
