speaker issues? - Epic 4G General

So recently I noticed that my launch day epic seems to have a cheap speaker sound to it, not the external speaker but just the regular speaker you use when talking to someone. It almost sounds like the speaker is buzzing/vibrating. Is everyones speaker like that or do i need to bring my phone in to get replaced?

bump

my speaker sounds loud and clear.

Mine gets pretty bad as far as static/crackling goes if I turn it up more than halfway. Going to have to experiment further, as it only gets pronounced when I'm on the phone with certain people

My friend has a brand new epic and i messed around with it last night, putting both phones at the same volume level and hers sounds perfect, where mine not so much. Guess i'm going to bring it in on monday and hopefully they will swap it out for a new one. I got it on launch day so its already past the 30 days, but do they already have spare parts to fix just the speaker?

no problems here.

Both the earphone and speaker phone on mine have a VERY tinny sound to them. I bought mine through BB, can I still swing by a spring store to exchange? Bought mine 4 days ago..

Well I was planning on bringing mine in tomorrow to get fixed/replaced but now the speaker is sounding great?! I dont know what to do really, i guess i will just wait until it sounds like crap all the time. When i turn it up more then half way it does sound tinny, but at least now it doesnt sound tinny even at the lowest volume

Mine started doing that. I took it to a repair center and they swapped the speaker. Now all is well, and the Epic sounds perfect again.

GREAT!...handset speaker went out again..

man...is this a defect on all T-Mobile wings?!? This is my third t-mobile wing with the handset speaker that went out. Is there a site that sells replacement handset speakers, cause i know how to take apart the wing and replace the speaker?
ugh..this sucks, now i have to use speakerphone.
I've never had my speaker go bad. Weird.
Do you mean the internal phonespeaker (the one you press against your right ear ) or the wired one? Oh wait, you're talking about taking things apart - hmm I guess you might try calling one of the HTC repair centres? Are you within your warranty? I think you must be, because most htc phones ship with 24 months of warranty.
I don't know which speaker you're talking about but my external one went out couple weeks ago and had to get a new phone from T-Mobile. It would make sounds but it was very "scratchy".
the one you put your ear on....freakng sucks
Hmm...
I have had my Wing since last June..
I work in a rugged area..Geotechnical Engineering & Field..working with lot of dirty & nasty materials..and I frequently clean my phone with a wet cloth(which is probably rather foolish)
The handset's receiver speaker works fine on mine.. the speakerphone on the back is not as clear..too much reverberation or something... but the headset is probably the best way to hear calls.
Anyways... with all the crap I put my phone through.. I don't notice any difference in either of the speakers performance from the first day I bought it.
Maybe you just had some bad luck?

OMG, I dropped my EVO today..

Everything seems to be ok except for the freaking ear speaker is crackling now when I turned the volume all the way. It didn't happen before, anyone has experience in reviving it please share.
Lower the volume a notch or 2 works better but I can't hear really well with lower volume in a car.
drop it again, except with the phone facing the completely opposite direction, this way it will knock everything back into place.
It sounds like the speaker itself is actually broken. The cone is crushed i bet. Bring it to sprint. If there is no visible damage, you might be able to get it fixed free under warrenty, or even swapped.

LOOOOOL HILARIOUS POST BRO.
You can probably get away with saying it was a manufacturer defect and you never noticed it until you played with your friends Evo.
This is a very common problem in the Evos, earpiece crackling sound at full volume. I had to exchange my evo a few times (for various reasons) and never actually got one that didnt crackle at full volume.
Several other members have had this problem on there evo as well. Its a defect, and not because you dropped your phone

Obviously it is because he dropped his phone...............
Use insurance or take it to a tech shop and see what they can do

Front Speaker Sounds Scratchy

Those of you that have gotten your phone, what's your speaker quality like for the front speaker? I noticed that mine is scratchy for higher pitched sounds like a girl talking, but sounds okay for lower pitched sounds. Does anyone else have the same issue? I might try going to the AT&T store tomorrow and seeing if they have any in stock I can exchange mine for.
Well... supposedly going into the store to pick one up might be a longshot, especially on launch day, if it's to be as popular a phone as it appears it will be. As for the scratchiness of the earpiece.... it could be a defect, or it could just be the volume. Hard to say, really.
Didn't engadget say it was that the speaker were really good?

Yah, I figured it'd be a long shot. If they don't have one perhaps they can order a new one for me. I tried turning the volume down and that only made a difference if it was 1/4 or lower.
Phone mode audio quality and volume.
Well, my Atrix has decent audio on speaker phone mode, but the audio out on the ear piece is a bit scratchy on the highs if turned up to what most would consider a mid volume level. I have to keep the volume down lower than I would like to avoid the scratch.
The phone mic is also very bass heavy. This phone is a great computer, but as a phone it has audio issues, and is bass heavy on TX and RX audio, regardless of EQ settings.
Currently considering if it should go back, as I need a good sounding phone.
Anyone else underwhelmed with the phone audio clarity?
**FIXED**
EDIT: Under settings, Call settings, "Noise suppression" was defaulted to "normal" Turning this to "off" made a massive improvement in all call audio (in a normal non-noisy environment). Now phone has decent call audio.
Hope this helps someone else... This had me concerned.
I had tried changing the option for Noise Suppression to 'Off', but it didn't make any difference for me. I took the phone into ATT and they replaced it without hassle. The new phone sounds much clearer.
I had the exact same problem with my pre-ordered unit. Went into a AT&T store today, and they were reluctant to replace it. After trying to sell accessories, they opened another one, and it sounded the same, so I left.
I went to a larger store and tried their floor model, which was perfect. The rep mentioned that they just received an e-mail about bad speakers, and replaced it without a problem (except trying to push more accessories).
So if you're picking one up, try the speaker first.
Just wanting to clarify, are those with the scratchy audio problem referring to the "earpiece" speaker or the hands free "speaker phone" speaker?
My speaker phone mode sounds great, only had earpiece issues.
And, does anyone know to which speaker the emailed "bad batch" notice was about?

Thanks for that.
I had the same problem. After reading the response, went back to Radioshack and got my phone replaced. Now it sounds good.
I had the same problem with mine as well. Very bad scratchy/rattle sound at high volumes. Had the phone swapped out and the new one is perfect.
Sound quality isn't quite as good as my Samsung Focus; Motorola seems to make things unnecessarily bassy but its clear and usable.

Rattling Speakers!

Been using my phone for a bit over a day now and I noticed that the bottom speaker has a slight rattling noise to it, especially at full blast. It's almost as if the speaker is too loud for its own good. It is really noticeable with higher-pitched tunes, such as the one from the following link:
https://youtu.be/GYtck_85rJQ
Can anyone test this out and confirm?
Volume-wise, they seem to be pretty even. However, as someone who listens to music a lot, I know this is going to drive me crazy.
By the way, this issue is obviously not present when connected to a headphone or via Bluetooth. So its definitely the speaker itself.

My phone has a rattle on the top speaker. I received a new device from Google which had a jaundice yellow screen but no rattle. I sent back the device with the bad screen and will request another RMA for the original device.
I read this & gave mine a good shake. I'm good but I'm glad you posted to look out for it.
Just tested on 2 phones, both seem fine.

I'm pretty sure he means the noise the speaker makes while playing music, not a physical rattle from shaking the device.
Yes. It's more like a buzzing sound when something high pitched is playing. As if the speaker can't handle the loud volume.
Oh I see. Ok I tested the video and mine is fine. The speakers don't sound over driven.

@akarol, what's the manufacturing date of your 6P? To see your manufacturing date, boot into the bootloader and select "Barcode". One of the barcodes should have a date, mine was October 31st. I'm curious to see if the speaker rattle issue is particular to some 6Ps manufactured on certain dates. I'm pretty sure I experienced some slight rattling on my bottom speaker while playing the music rhythm game Deemo. It doesn't really bother me that much though, and it would be too much of a hassle for my parents if I were to RMA the device, especially so soon after I just got it.
Got mine 2 weeks ago from Best Buy Canada, but didn't notice that issue at first. I suspect that this may be amplified by time, or maybe I just didn't pay attention at firt. I did what you said to see the manufacturing date and mine is October 24th. Maybe this is specific to early production devices. I am gonna exchange it in store today and see if the new one is fine.
Can anyone with this issue confirm if the new one is fine or the same?
Thanks.
I think it's present on all devices and those who say aren't there just don't have the ears for it. I'm on my 3rd RMA and it's still there. All 3! I'll probably just keep the original device.

The video you posted doesn't cause it for me. However, the launch screen of clash of clans does. Ah well.
About 3 days ago I started noticing this issue on mine. Mainly, when I was receiving a text, the tone sounded really over-driven for the speaker.
Then I was watching a YouTube video today, and I noticed it a lot. I honestly think it's the speaker itself slightly rattling with high pitched noises.
Kind of disappointed in this. I don't feel like sending it back, but it's sad. Maybe a kernel with a good amount of audio control can solve this. Maybe if I could tune down the highs a bit.
I don't have Nexus Protect or anything, but I know the device is still covered under warranty. Is this something that could easily be claimed under warranty, or probably not?
I honestly think it's a design that flaw. I have it in all 3 of my speakers. All 3 of them it's with the bottom speaker. I don't think RMAing or sending it in would solve anything. Maybe some time after when it's been addressed. I'll learn to live with this knowing that I don't usually keep these things past a year anyways.

My current issue is with the top speaker, instead of the bottom. And my top speaker is getting progressively worse. It's a very annoying buzzing/high pitched static noise that comes with almost any sound. Notifications, alarms, phone ringer, YouTube videos, etc. Its getting worse, and so I submitted an RMA and have a replacement coming out.
Since you say yours is with the bottom, and mine is strictly with the top, it sounds interesting.
Mine is almost bad enough though that you wouldn't want to live with it. I'll try and get a recording of it.
anyone have any updates on this? I just got mine nexus 6p about 2 weeks ago and it's been driving me nuts. The top speaker has a buzzing sound when playing certain videos, songs or notification tones. One specifically is the "Tethys" notification tone that causes the buzzing pretty badly. I have tried viper4android and tried every configuration possible and it still has the buzzing. Has anyone managed to get a device that does not have this issue?
I've got this similar problem too, with my top speaker. Testing my speakers with this video: https://youtu.be/qNf9nzvnd1k?t=54s top one starts buzzing at approximately 250 Hz, even on half of the volume. Bottom speaker is crystal clear (maybe with exception of 100% volume, but I'm ok with this). After reading this thread's posts I'm not sure if I should send it back on warranty, especially that my N6P is free of any other flaws.
Interesting: bootloader barcode screen shows 12-10-2015 - that's quite old unit, considering the fact that I bought it in the middle of January...
Honestly, I went through 3 and they all had some rattling. Over the months, I haven't noticed it anymore. Either I forgot about it, or it actually improved. As long as the volume is even on both, I wouldn't risk getting a worse device.

I have the exact same problem with top speaker buzz, really noticeable with the tethys notification sound and in youtube videos with deeper sounds. I have tried RMA'ing twice, the first one the speakers were perfect but had a screen problem so I sent it back and kept my original, and the second had the exact same speaker problem so I kept the original again. I am very frustrated with this. A question I have though is when I just leave my finger on the left corner of the speaker that buzzes, it stops buzzing. Has anyone tried any home repairs? What if we were to put a drop of super glue in the left corner of the speaker? is that likely to fix the problem? I appreciate the help guys.

Speaker Audio Crackling/Distortion Problem?

I haven't seen anything posted on this and so, I'm hoping it's just my phone. Received my LG V20 last night and the first oddity was an audio one. When the T-Mobile jingle came on at boot, I noticed that the jingle had a slight crackling/distortion effect to it but I didn't think anything of it. Got the rest of the phone setup and I'm super happy with it but the issue showed up again as soon as I tried to test out the speaker outloud via YouTube. Anything with a high frequency results in crackling and people's voices have a slightly robotic effect to them. The issue isn't isolated to YouTube because it happens with anything.
It's not noticeable... if let's say you have the phone a few feet away from you at mid volume but it's super obvious when holding it and irritating when having it against my ear. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm thinking about stopping by a T-Mobile store to see if they have a model one that I can test out. Hoping it's not just a crappy speaker featured in a very audio featured phone. Thanks for any feedback ya'll.
Sounds like you have a bad unit. I haven't heard anyone mention the same issue so I think you should warranty it.
Mine has begun doing it whenever i run an app or a video. Even with the volume turned all the way down. For example, writing this post is producing very noticable static from the speaker even with all audio muted, all keypress audio disabled and haptic feedback disabled. Opening a game like clash of clans produces noise at the same level as a mistuned television.
I get the distortion as well on my T-Mobile variant.
Same issue
My phone just started with the cracking noise, but mines sounds like the speaker has blown out!! T moblie as well! Please post what you guys plan to do next
I have a Verizon variant and mine does the same thing. Recorded video of my daughters softball game and noticed the blown out speaker sound i was getting. Seems like poor quality speakers possibly.
Same Problems
I have a T-mobile LG V20 also coming from the Note 7 and tonight my speaker has the same static & blown speaker sound on high or low volume everything was fine until I used headphones and etc today I don't know if this had something to do with it or not I am really hoping this is not a big issue across the board. I am gonna swap it out and pray for the best LG is my last hope since there are no other good android phablets out right now.
Out of the blue
I have the Sprint version and mine just started cracking out of no where tonight for no reason. I was listening to music but it wasn't even turned all the way up. What in the world?
I have only had my V20 for 7 days and now the speaker is doing the same thing everyone else is saying (distortion, cracking, sounds like a blown speaker). Called LG they said factory reset it but that did not resolve. Went to Best Buy where they thought at first it was a software issue but quickly realized it is a hardware issue. Tried calling LG back but cant get through as the line says all circuits are busy. I just turned in my replacement Note 7 and now I think LG may have inherited the Samsung curse.
My phone just started doing the same thing!!! I was just listening to a song on SoundCloud and the sound suddenly became distorted. I tried YouTube and and same thing happened. I restarted the phone and the T-Mobile jingle was... You guessed it: distorted. Idk what happened for this functioning model to suddenly start doing this, but I'm very disappointed. I'll be going back to the T-Mobile store to try to turn it in and get it replaced.
You guys are scaring me. I really hope this isn't widespread!
My ATT LG v20 is audio has gone crazy just as described by others out of the blue!! Im not looking forward to the ttio to the ATT store as I doubt if anyone will knowcwhats going on! Has anyone's phone audio been fixed? The distortion. crackling makes the phone useless and makes me cry!!!#
Too many people are reporting this problem. Meaning that eventually we're all going to experience this. This does not sound good at all.
Happen to me today. Just turned on DAC and it went away. T mobile.
ughhh

Ugh I had high hopes but this did NOT work for me. Sprint. I waited so long for this phone and now dealing with this ....makes me pretty upset. I got mine on the 25th and it started on Nov 1st.
trashy audio after awhile WILL put me off on this device...
I have noticed it seems to get worse the more the battery is drained.
Got mine on 10/28 and until now (knock wood) the sound is pretty good!
T-Mo Variant
LG V20 speaker issues
I was within the 14 day Best Buy return period. They have ordered me a new V20. I'll see if it was just a fluke??
Some posts on reddit suggest that the speaker becomes crappy when the phone is being charged.
