[CLOSED/G2] Methods for importing contacts - G2 and Desire Z General

First things first.. I am going to get my G2 tomorrow so the first question I have and it might be a simple one but what's going to be the easiest way to get the contacts off of my N900(Maemo) over to my new G2?

Create a gmail account if you don't already have one. Add all contact to your google account. Once you get the phone, sync your google account with phone, and they'll transfer over.

Just put all your contacts on your SIM card and then in the contacts app click menu then import, after that it will sync to your google account and they will be with you forever!

Thanks for the replies guys. I've had a gmail account for ages so I'm trying to figure out how to get the contact file off the n900 so I can convert it to a file recognized by google.

some people found this helpful on the internet for the n900 even tho its for win pho
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-synch.mspx
also i found these directions
1- Open settings menu.
2- Open "Email for Exchange" submenu.
3- Filling in the fields as:
4- Server: m.google.com
5- Port: 443
6- Secure connection: check yes
7- Conflict resolution: your choice (i used server priority because i left all my contacts there ^_^.)
8- User name: [email protected] (for me it worked without "@gmail.com")
9- Password: your password
10- Domain: leave blank
11- Synchronize e-mail: leave unchecked (because is not implemented yet by big "G")
12- Synchronize calendar and tasks: check yes
13- Synchronize calendar back: your choice (i set all the events and it worked)
14- Synchronize completed tasks: your choice (i cheked it for personal reasons and it worked)
15- Synchronize contacts: check yes
16- First synchronization: your choice (i chose to "delete from device" and it worked)

Yeah I tried that a while back before I posted.. wouldn't work. Like most things with the n900 I would have to fiddle with it for a while which I wasn't prepared to do. Finally got Ovi to work and synced with Outlook2007 which I saved the csv and got them into gmail so I'm all set. Thanks for the assistance.

To move my WinMo caontacts over, I did this (fairly painless):
1) export Contacts via Outlook as CSV;
2) upload Contacts.csv to GMail/Contacts;
3) clean up the items I didn't want/need on my phone.
These aren't constantly synced, but everything is all moved over, no problem.

I guess you could do that too if you didnt want to sync
thank you my friend you saved me!!!

Questions about upgrade...

Hey!
I just spotted the new firmware upgrade on HTC's homepage. Is it a easy way to take backup of all the settings on the phone? Like E-mail accounts, contacts etc? I can sync my contacts and calendar with my computer but the e-mail accounts are pain in the ass to set up one more time...
Thanx
it's very easy to configure it... Just "add server source" > enter server ; enter user name, pass, choose what you want to sync, and that's all.

Email (Gmail) problem.. pls answer..

So,
in a first look, this question may seam as an waste of time.. but, two days ago, i went from e71 to HD2... i find hd2 excelent phone, but some features are not as good as i suposed that would be.
first of all, it took me TWO (?!) days to configure e mail, but man would say it is not a rocket science... lol (i had that well known proxy problems, etc...)..
but now, i find VERY iritating the fact that e mails come to my phone with 5-20 (depends on don't know what...) delay?
I use GMAIL, and in a nut shell - my settings are - automatic every 5 minutes.
It is very strange, because my Nokia E71 was perfect, mail arrived SAME time on mobile and gmail....
what should i do to make it "100% push"?
thank you!
I don't know, but if it took you 2 DAYS to configure the e-mail and went thru proxy issues, it is very likely that at some point you misconfigured something and therefore, it's not working smoothly....
I say so because my gmail works just fine, as it should be. Perhaps you should just delete the account and set it up again from scratch.

thnx for answer.. but, today i went thru ROM update (to 1.48), and i set up whole mobile again (no backup), and same problem again.
i went thru auto setup, not manual, - "like as it should be done"..
if you want push then go through "Outlook" in the Email account wizard and set up your gmail account that way.
if you've set it to check every 5minutes, then it's going to give you a delay.
you can add push gmail through active sync - add server source, through device center or ActiveSync on your pc or through 'data services' on the settings tab of HTC sense. instructions are outlined at Google sync services webpage, you could eh google that.

goto active sync
enter full email address, untick "attempt to auto detect"
server address "m.google.com" keep ticked this server requires etc....
User name - your full email address again, password and look at all options. You can sync calendar and contacts too. You need to sync twice to get both calendar and contacts working.

I don't think that's possible, I also want to add 2 accounts for push e-mail (Exchange and GMail)
As far as I know, you can only use one exchange account.
When you've added push gmail through active sync is there any way to rename the outlook account to Gmail ? Just looks a bit odd going to 'outlook' to read my gmails.
so.. nokia vs htc 1:0..
i had two accounts - two GMAIL accounts, and it was working WITH NO DELAY, with regular setup..
so, very disapointing in HTC's features...

Sorry for the noob question: How to I sync my Contacts over from my Nexus?

I am sure it's been covered, but I can't sync this to get my Google contacts for anything. I keep getting error code: 0x80072ee7
This is my first WimMo phone so go easy!
go to your gmail on your pc, then you want to go to contacts, then export contacts, and save them as an outlook file...then you want to log into windows live (if you dont have an account, make one up, and you can still use another email (you dont have to use a hotmail account), then after loading your contact file into windows live on your pc via the web, then you want to open windows live on your phone, and log in, then your contacts will sync, and be saved, like google, on windows live....
your lucky i was in a helpful/good mood because i just picked up my HD2, this all is windows help search away...
although you might have done this, a bit more info on how you got the error would be good...
There was a good thread about this in the HD2 General forum, unfortunately I can't remember the title. You can probably find it with a good search. It's within the last few days.
Basically.. in Settings -> Data Services -> ActiveSync, you can set up an email account that links to your gmail account and syncs the contacts. The account type should be Exchange. That's as much as I can remember. Just do a thread search, you'll find it.
if your contacts are on your gmail account, you can install SEVEN from here (You have to join their beta program and once you do, you can click on the "download software" link. Please select the consumer edition, and agree to the terms (read them carefully first, the reason is explained below). When you do you will be presented with the choice to receive a text message on your phone or other download options, select other download options, select HTC as the manufacturer and select either the P3450 or the T8282 as your model (the HD2 is not officially supported, but it works well at least on mine) and then you can download the cab.
The catch with SEVEN is that when you set up your account, it will send a text message to a number in the UK, they do that to register your phone on their system, and they only do it once per email account, although if you flash your phone and reinstall SEVEN, it will send the message again when you add your account again.
When you set up your account, you will be able to sync your email, your contacts and your calendar, and it will be setup as push. You can do this with gmail, AOL, yahoo, hotmail, and even custom accounts.
Hope this helps.
Phone the sound of it, you already set up an activesync to get your gmail email/contacts/calendar. I'm guessing you didn't unselect 'tasks.' If that is the case, then just go to activesync and in options, unselect 'tasks.' This should fix your problem (google doesn't support tasks so you can't sync them).
You can also deselect the tasks in data settings in the settings tab.

GMAIL Calendar not appearing in list

When I go to my GMAIL account setup, Calendar does not appear on the list (Contacts does). Does anyone know why and/or what I can do to make sure that Droid 2 sync's with my Google Calendar?
no worries.
Android only allows one account to sync calendar information. But, you're not out of luck. You can share all of the other accounts' calendars into the main (initial) gmail account you entered. I'm doing this with multiple calendars through the one main account, and it works great.
Go to the 'other' calendar accounts through a computer browser and share (full permission share) with the one account that is synced properly. It's easy, fun, and fulfilling!
From my research ... this solved it for me:
From a different forum ... this worked for me:
1. Go to 'my accounts' on droid 2
2. Click on 'create account'
3. choose google account
4. Follow the process for creating a new gmail acct not just adding your original to create a dummy account
5. Make sure all sync options are checked
6. Finalize account creation
7. Go to your calendar and create a new event using your ORIGINAL gmail acct not the new/dummy account
8. Save event
9. Go back into my accounts and check your original account sync options, calendar should now be there
10. Remove your dummy account from your phone
Awesome!!
Simple process and it works
