[CLOSED/DZ] My friends Desire Z - G2 and Desire Z General

Edit: Thread closed, Dump created and posted, Discussion no longer needed. ~TheRomMistress
So her story is a "friend" gave it to her. I am a Desire owner myself but grabbed a pic anyway. Still has a bunch of stickers on it from HTC wit the code name and number on it.

Remove that code from the pic, dump the ROM & you will see it running on your desire this weekend...

I know how to flash ROMs and all that but have never dumped a ROM. I use OSX, have Android SDK and know my way around both OSX and Windows. Any starter tips to get me on my way? Will this affect the current state of the phone?

why dont u post in the Desire or N1 forum? I'm sure the chefs there would be eager to tell u how to dump the ROM since it would benefit them greatly to be able to port to their devices..

Good advise, on my way over.

Hey! I see that you're Canadian! Would you have any idea at all which carrier the Desire Z might go to?

yea i'd like to know as well
only thing i've heard is that bell is getting it sometime in november. But since your friend already has her hands on one i'm hoping it might come earlier than that

If this isn't a joke then get over to Desire Android Dev section. We have a HD rom running without camera but a Desire Z dump would be perfect for us.

did this phone came with any information about HTCSense.com?

Calm down, we have AWS band carriers up here too. Just cause it's up here doesn't mean it's NAM (850/1900)

Aye I know, but the slight possibility is there
Could the OP please update on this ??
HAPPY EDIT:
just saw the other post ("dump") from slimdizzy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8408188
It says "BELL MOBILITY" yesssss
Please correct me if I am wrong, but BELL CANADA runs over UMTS bands V and II (850 and 1900 MHz) !!!
.

@gtrab As far as I know, Bell/Telus/Rogers all work on the same bands as AT&T. The device had a sim in it and was working on 3G on Bell. Bell also has HSDPA (or whatever it is) but I did not see the H icon in the status bar like on my Desire, which is on Telus.

Great news, its NAM version !!
Does you friend get 3G or H with it ??

Droid Support in Cyanogen

Hey guys... I started an entry for Droid compatibility in the Cyanogen code tracker.
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmo...Priority Version Owner Summary Stars Modified
Let's get some more stars on that badboy and show that there is a real desire to get more top quality coders on the Eclair bandwagon!
What is this for? To get Cyanogen on Droid?
The only thing I regret about switching to Droid is missing out on Cyanogen's awesome work. There is nothing comparable yet on DROID.
Yup! Exactly the point of what I'm trying to do.
Starred.
Hmm I don't see it happening any time soon, because the only reason the Dream and Magic are both supported in his ROM is due to them both being 32B devices. Same hardware and I believe same motherboard. The 32A Magic that uses a different motherboard is not supported.
I would say it is doable. You'd have to do some pretty serious work in the code and somehow figure out some of the Droid's drivers. The proprietary drivers are the major barrier to creating decent custom roms for most of these devices.
Someone needs to give Cyanogen a DROID.

but to not push it out of my hands..
i have 2 fingers on top..

I keep my fingers on the middle of the back instead of along the top rim... so my fingers aren't anywhere near the volume button, but still have enough torque to open the screen easily
The Droid in GSM is 650$ Imported/Unlocked, Pretty hard to get alot people on that one.
But i would consider getting one if Cyanogen made rom for it, but i dont think he has enough time to do Dream, magic and milestone.

Sounds like a great idea for those of us here in the US, but the GSM droid is not going to give you 3G connections. The radio frequencies of the GSM droid is not on the correct radio frequencies for T-mobile or AT&T, so you will be stuck with 2G at best.

Htc HD2 T-mobile - 3G Connectivity Question ?

Hi, so i have a unlocked htc hd2 from t-mobile.
First question is since im a newbie, does that 3G capability is software or hardware based ?
Second if its software based does anyone know if there is a software that'll enable hd2 to work on Rogers 3G bands?
thanks a lot in advance

I'm guessing you mean from T-Mobile US. You should probably check the forum specifically for the US T-Mobile HD2 and ask these questions there.
For your information they have removed the section for TMOUS HD2's and merged back in with the regular section. As to try and answer the OP's question, I personally use Energy ROM's because I like the latest build of 6.5.X and allot of Eye Candy however everyones taste is different. The best bet would be to try allot of ROM's out and see what one fits your taste. (just make sure it is compatible with TMOUS)

Universal ROM for G2 / Desire Z

Since the G2 and the Desire Z are "technically" the same Phone...One major difference will be the bands.
Therefore, will it be possible, when Cyanogen creates a ROM for the G2, to use it on the Desire Z? Or will it not work because of the different bands?
N1 and desire are closer in hardware than the Z and the G2, but they still require specific roms.
So......no.

the g2 also has 4 gigs of internal memory (not ram)
vs the desire z's 1.5
it should be a quick cut and paste for a dev

What?
AFAIK, memory capacity and radio aside, they have the same internals.
I am not even sure a separate ROM would have to be written. Would the radios have different drivers?

Well, I think so...Because it's the same with the Motorola Droid and Motorola Milestone. Same device, only difference is the radio. And yet the ROMs for the droid will not work on the Milestone without modifying the drivers for the radio, etc...

well thats because CDMA roms won't work on GSM phons and visa versa, but since the Desire Z and G2 are both GSM they will work together....... The only thing i'm hoping for is that HSPA+ doesn't end up like Wimax where no custom roms can run it =(

g2/Z differences
Rom/ram/internalstorage/radio
n1/desire differences
rom/ram/touchkeys
Like I said n1/desire have more in common than the z/g2, it's not a huge difference, but they are closer siblings.

pretty sure HSPA+ isn't going to stop custom roms. even then we haz cyanogen to help us hack it
the G2 and the Z are the same phone, only difference is the ROM space(internal storage) and radio, they have the SAME RAM and other internals so as already stated they should work almost interchangeably but they may not, the only way we will know for sure is to get shipped ROM for both and flash to the other device(after root of course) since we already have the shipped build for the G2 and the ENG build for the G2 then we should be able to get root within a reasonable amount of time.
and since cyanogen is getting the phone we can expect CM development almost immediately

1. Rom shouldn't even matter...for custom ROMs anyway.
2. Ram is the same. Check HTC.com they both have 512mb.
3. Internal Storage == ROM...
So that really only leaves the radio which is different.
P.S.
Yes, the Phones are both GSM, but they still have different bands, which equals a completely different radio.
For Instance, a ROM for the Motorola Milestone from Brazil with the bands: 850 / 1900 / 2100
will not work on a Motorola Milestone from Germany with the bands: 900 / 2100...
Well...It will work...problem is that you won't have 3G
so is gunna end up kinda like how magic phones are 32a and 32b, or is gunna be like how dream roms work on magic phones............. ugh who cares there'll be more development for the g2 anyway... sorry desire z owners! =)
oh and how are you guys all senior members me want me want!!

Well...whatever changes Cyanogen does to his sources, they could easily be ported anyways by just replacing the correct libraries for the radio, etc.
I doubt it will be a problem.
does any one know the /system size of the g2?
and i wouldnt worry to much about HSPA+ the coverage for it isnt that good right now, so if there is any bugs with roms and hspa+ it will be fixed by the time hspa+ is up in your area.
And i dont know about the differences in the 2 phones. but i believe that it is something with the radio because that controls so much of the phone and the rom is more or less the software
i have HSPA+ in my area so i certainly hope that we can still use it with custom ROMs. cannot wait to get this phone
Heh.
3. Internal Storage == ROM
Believe me, if internal storage was really Read Only Memory people would be quite unhappy.

Dual Sim on Vogue/Polaris compatible with Android

Hey,
i want to use a different provider for phone and internet.
There are dual-clips for Kaiser on wimobile, but im note sure if this is system dependent.
Is it even possible to use 3g and phone at different sim-cards at the same time? Or do i have to switch to the 3g data-sim for internet and then the phone isnt working the whole time the connection stands?
Thx

A surprise I found. BEE vs BUZZ.......

While I was surfing the internet aimlessly as usual , I thought to check gsmarena.com for the latest mobile news...etc
I found something interesting, In the CDMA Wildfire (AKA, Bee) I pressed the compare button and chose the normal GSM wildfire (buzz). In the android version the buzz was upgradable to android 2.2 froyo BUT THE BEE WAS UPGRADABLE TO 2.3 GINGERBREAD !!
Aren't they supposed to be the same phone but with different radios ?
A message to HTC: WTF ?!!!!!
Another thing, anyone knows what's the HTC sense version of the gingerbread bee ? Any RUUs available ? maybe it will be easier to port it from an almost similar device
If u wanna check by yourself, click here
Man. I am surprised. Did not even know that a cdma wildfire existed till now. Great to see an upgrade of 2.3 sense upgraded os.

these bees surprise me more and more. even though i am in the uk i am actually considering getting one of these just to f**k with it and see what it can really do. maybe even be able to port a recovery and cm7 to this device. cant be that hard surely. and ive seen the prices used on ebay for about £30 or so but they wont post outside the us :/ i am aware that the call/text functions wont work outside the us but the wifi would still work so maybe i could get this mysterious gingerbread update as well. thoughts?
oh, and ive only been able to find one ruu and i tore it to pieces only to find that its stock 2.2.1
I remember when i was looking for a way to get gingerbread on my wildfire (LOL it seems like it was the stone age then ) I read that someone had his wildfire on gingerbread out of the box.
Till yesterday i was saying "either he's a complete noob or an epic troll" .
Now I knew what he means, he had the Bee an he didn't know the difference between the Bee and the Buzz.
I'm in a quest for finding a gingerbread RUU for the bee. Will report if i find anything
