Don't want to be Guinea pig after att one makes those problem,
Still willing to see positive report here

Running the update on my stock Vibrant. Will post results once it's done.

update works, as long as you have kies 1.5.1.
i personally had stock rom and stock kernel running launcher pro.
can't report anything other than it updates fine. it did remove my stock lock screen and my circular accurate battery mod.

We're already up to 10 pages as of this post. There's a lot of good information in there so far. There were a few issues affecting people but appear minor. My upgrade went just fine and GPS appears fixed.

I'll post in the dev section as well.
Upgrade successful. As mentioned in the dev posts, I installed Kies but did not allow it to apply the update (to the software, not the phone).
Message popped up saying that firmware upgrade was available. Clicked it, waited, phone rebooted, done. The download and upgrade was slow, though.
The state of the phone is just as it was before the upgrade except that my Daily Briefing app was reset. All data appears to be intact. I'm stuck inside so can't test the GPS, but it seems as though the phone is a bit zippier (could just be my imagination though).

Take the GPS for a ride and see if it loses connection..

The phone is alot snappier even without the lag fix. Market work faster as well even on 3g. Although, quadrant score doesn't reflect a significant increase but as we all know quadrant scores are inflated and inaccurate once you apply a "lag fix". GPS cold boot obtaiend 7-10 locks inside my house, no setting changed all default. Haven't got a chance to actually test the connection and accuracy in long runs, will do it tomorrow on way to school.

How to make Kies work with Vibrant firmware update
Install Kies from Samsung UK site.
DO NOT UPDATE to the latest version
Click on Driver recovery in Kies Menu and install the samsung drivers
Phone settings - USB Settings - Kies mode should be selected
-------------------------------
Now, if you have already updated to latest version of kies, uninstalling and reinstalling alone may not work.
Uninstall the software... restart system...
Go to c:\program files\samsung........ delete the kies folder.
Now reinstall the software.
---------------------
And finally, quit Launcher Pro/ADW.... You need to be in default TW.
Make sure your battery is more than 75%... i am not sure about the right limit.. It didn't allow me to update firmware when mine was at 45%.

Be careful downloading and running the Samsung Kies software.
I downloaded and installed it this evening and it knocked out my computer's internet connection (see post here - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795270 )

Yes, otherwise, you will be starting at the Galaxy S screen for a while.

I keep getting a big fail for installing the MTP USB Device on my PC when I connect the phone.
Edit: Uninstalling everything and trying again.

success!
Here is my method that i compiled from everyone in the other thread
Undo lagfix using One Click Lag Fix app from Market
Download and install Samsung Kies
Once installed, it will ask you to update Samsung Kies. Do not update Kies
Click on Kies at the top left and click Driver Recovery to install/reinstall samsung drivers
Make Touchwiz your default launcher
Menu > Applications > USB Settings > Samsung Kies
Launch Kies on your pc if it's not already running.
Plug in the usb cable to your device.
It will prompt you for a firmware upgrade.

Not updating unless it fixes the crappy gps.

After reading 20 pages of the thread in dev zone,
I STILL DONT KNOW WHAT EXACTLY IT UPDATED..
Almost all the post r talking about the kies instead of the update itself..
I really want to know how the GPS works after the update..

Wondering if the leaked ROM is really final...

Hi all,
it has been now nearly two weeks since the rom update leaked, and still so sign of an official update on htc website.
I'm wondering if this was really the final rom version, if so i don't know why htc would wait another two weeks after the leak.
I heard that somebody got that rom from an ftp server which is used by htc to upload data before it gets released. In this case two weeks seems also way too long for a deployment.
Are there any signs of the official release? I'm curious to see whether there are any last minute changes done.
well it could do with both orange and tmobile (in the uk) need to add there custom rubbish to there phones?
I read about major improvements in speed.
BUT - I also read about weather DB issues, WiFi issues, a.o problems.
So, I am definitely going to stay put, until an official release.
I am not going to waste time on reinstalling software etc, by flashing something "maybe-this-is-a-rom-very-close-to-the-final-one"!
yeah of course the carrier updates will take more time, but im talking about the htc update for unbranded devices.
since i made the ruu update i can confirm speed updates (but not huge difference), and i can confirm that more often the browser seems to have issues when going online via wlan. connection is there, signal is there, but the browser cant open pages.
and my device actually freezed two times, i couldnt make softreset and had to take the battery out. annoying.
but overall im satisfied with the performance optimization, still i will make another update as soon as the official rom is out..
and another minor thing: updating weather information manually will result in three updates. the app will update the weather data three times in a row, even though you only pressed update once,
I've had none of those problems, just checked the weather and it seems to update just once. I did have to pull the battery a couple of times BEFORE installing this new ROM when my phone totally locked though.
two weeks?? that's wrong.
The user who uploaded it, __htc__, leaked 2.73 on the 3rd of September....5 days ago.
they release to the ftp, this allows the repair centres, factory and call centres to get it, and then they release it on the website.
yes it is the final version.
if you want it, download it now, or dont. it's up to you, but yes this is the final release and it will be up soon.
rom t-mobile
@rhedgehog hi mate this might be silly but will this update work on locked t-mobile or willi have to root said device?
ps dont slap me to hard if its been asked before lol

yeah two weeks was maybe too much. I was hoping this is not final since i have some new issues since i made the ruu update:
- peep widget updates only every 30th try. I'm trying to update the tweets and it doesn't work for about 20 times, and then somehow it works after many more tries. When i open peep app i get an error message that the service is not reachable.
- wifi has problems. many times it seems the connection is dead, when technically everything is ok.
- freezes (but i installed about 40 apps, maybe this was too much...)
- keyboard has sometimes lags. i never had ANY lags inputting text before the update.
- more force closes by 3rd party apps.
- touchflo force closes seem to occur more often also (but i had them before too so this might be the same).
- freezes when the device is in sleep mode. I was at a meeting, not doin anything with the device. Then i wanted to check the time and the display didn't power on. So the device freezed during some background process by android or any 3rd party app. I never had this problem before the update.
the good:
- yes its faster (homescreens)
- even the contacts list has LESS stutter, but stutter is still there. IPHONE 3gs is way ahead in this regard. i don't know why other lists on android are completely fluid while the contacts app list is not fluid.
- battery seems to last longer
overall the first impression was VERY good, but is somehow stained by the problems that surface after some usage time...i'm not 100% sure if the speed update was worth it...waiting for android 1.6 update, maybe this sorts some stuff out..
I'm using Modacos 2.0 rom, and I've not encountered a single one of the issues you are reporting here.
Did you wipe before installing the RUU version? If not, I suggest you give it a try. Alternatively, wipe and install Modaco.

the RUU update won't work on a branded device. You need root to install the new rom in this case.

hmm i didn't do a wipe. How can you wipe the unrooted phone manually? i thought the RUU update will wipe the phone. It explicitly says so when updating the device that all data is lost. to me this means: your phone will be wiped...

Well, Menu->Security->Factory Data Reset should do the job. To be honest though, I'd be more inclined to trust the "standard" Android way of updating your ROM than the HTC RUU process, because, as far as I'm aware, this'll be their first RUU for an Android device.
Regards,
Dave
Interestingly, the second poster here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557628 , indicates that they had a problem with the factory data reset, but a recovery image wipe fixed it. I wonder if this related to your issues?
Even if you don't want to flash the modified recovery image permanently to your phone, you could boot it using fast boot and then wipe.
Regards,
Dave
how does it work? how can i restore a revocery image? isn't this an issue with the latest RUU update, that flashing recovery rom is not possible anymore or am i mixing things up here?
Steps 1 to 5 in this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045 , tell you what you need to do to boot the modified recovery image. Note that this doesn't flash anything to your phone - it just boots off the image you've supplied. You can permanently flash the recovery image later if you wish, but since you took the RUU root, I guess you don't want to put anything "unofficial" on your phone.
I've no idea if you having RUU'd already will prevent this, and I'm not going to RUU my phone to find out, but I doubt you would be stopped booting using fastboot.
Regards,
Dave
okay, thanks for the info!
Modaco wrote on a thread that doing the RUU update will make it nearly impossible to flash a modified recovery image.
I'm going to work with my current setup for some more days. If i see the mentioned problem reoccuring more often, i will proceed with the steps in your post.
or maybe we will see some changes (if not to the rom itself maybe at least the RUU will get an update) with the official rom update.
bye
shahpur
Just searched and you are right, you can't boot the recovery image if you have the new HBOOT from the RUU. However, the situation is not irreversible!

I would try to either
1) ODIN back to DI18 and reapply the 2.2 update ROM
2) ODIN directly to DK28

Do you have a link on how to Odin DK28?
EDIT: Nevermind, I think I want to go back to DI18 and just wait for the official OTA, I'm having too many problems

Thats the DK28 ODIN file
Give it a shot man, I'm running it with NO issues to speak of
I did it, but my gps doesn't seem to work anymore.
Has anyone used 4g after the update. Is the connection more stable?
Is it me or does it seem that the linpack scores should have gone up a bit more..
I was getting around 8.3xx in 2.1, and now I'm getting 13.7xx in 2.2.
(I used the 1506bdf2e04b.update-SPH-D700_DI18ToDK28.zip renamed to update.zip method.)
Saw a video the other day showing a nexus 1 scoring 20+ on 1st run and 40+ on 2nd.. My friends Evo (with 2.2) scored @ 38 or so..
Quadrant still shows me well under all of the 2.2+ phones listed.
(1st post, great forums BTW!)
=]
I ended up flashing my phone back to the DI18 version because of the plethora of problems I was encountering. Hopefully the official release of froyo will be flawless, because the parts of my phone that were working were absolutely fantastic!
I updated and everything is working fine except I can't download apps. It just sits there in "starting download." I can access the internet fine. I tried it over wi-fi, 3g, 4g. Any ideas?

That depends... Did you take the official OTA update, or did you use a ROM on here?
If you used a ROM on here, did you backup?
If yes, you can restore your backup. If no, there are OTA updates here you can use to go back to an old version if you wish BUT, there's an Acer proscribed "fix" for this wifi issue. Press the reset button on the side of the device to factory reset it. Once it's restarted and sitting on the home screen, press it again. It should be fixed after the 2nd wipe.
It was an OTA update, where do I find the updates?
thanks

There are several threads in the dev section with multiple versions, not the custom ones. Go through the threads and read them properly. All the info you need to reflash is in there.
However, DO try the double reset fix first.
also try deleting the dhcp lease file under /data/misc/dhcp
I have deleted the file in /dhcp a number of times. and also tried the double and triple reset. All these fixes are very short term. I am sick and tired of dealing
with this sorry product. If I could I would have returned it ASAP. But I
am stuck with this product. All I know is that HC 3.0 worked OK.
When I upgraded to 3.1 all these WIFI issues began.
Until I get a patch from Acer, I want to go back to 3.0
I don't know how or where to get the files and info I need.
Please someone who knows let me know.
thanks again

I've already told you where to go and what to do. If you can't be bothered to go into the dev section and do some reading, that's your issue. I'm not going to spoonfeed you, put some effort into it and LEARN something.
There is a FULL TUTORIAL thread in there on backing up and restoring the OTA function for getting the 3.1 update. If you bother to read it, you'll see that it takes you all the way back to 3.0.
Short and simple:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664
i would also check if you wifi/router firmware is up to date, also check if you have all frequencies available as per your region, f.i. add channel 12 and 13 for europ.
frequencies might be another problem due to interferences. check if you have automatique selection of frequencies selected on the router, because before anything goes on, the router and the equipment is negociating channels?
eventually try different channels to find out which works best.
and last but not least check if you have set the correct password for your wifi connection.
you need a dolorean and go at 65MPH... I don't see any solution.

Although we don't practice this, after every firmware update we are SUPPOSED to factory reset. Especially with a drastic update. This is considered drastic as we've gone from a .0 release to a .1 release.
A factory reset generally wipes the old settings out completely as well as the cache so the system can start "fresh". We're just very lazy and so the majority of us (I'm guilty as well), update and if it works, we run with it....so this has become the 'norm'.
Before you do something as drastic as go back to the old OS, how about you try a factory reset first.
If that doesn't work - then you can attempt going back.
I personally would do several things:
1a. Check router firmware to see if I'm on the newest
OR
1b. At least reboot the router. This clears upnp and any bottlenecking that's happening....and it does happen. If upnp is enabled and you have lots of PCs there can easily be thousands of ports added and open in the router and this can gum up new ip leases, etc.
2. Factory reset the device. This clears away the possibility that there's either some software creating the issue, or funky settings corrupted somehow because of the upgrade.
Good Luck.
Beat goes on

Factory reset....lost it all.........
Still no connection...
Set up a static IP and this works...........
I will have to delay further action as I don't have the time right now.
I am leaning towards flashing a ROM, but I need to do more research.

help please! my tab's wifi wont stast! [error]

hello xdadev,
i really need your help. I am a newbie in android world [just purchased my first android device] last month [samsung galaxy tab p6800]. since then, i was really excited to explore android world and its features where I was led to this site.
now, heres my problem: just this afternoon, at first, i used my wifi to access a shopping mall internet connection. but minutes after turning my wifi off, when i turned it on again to connect to another network, i was surprised that it wont start and when i open the settings menu, under it says error. im really worried.
had my unit restored to factory settings but still no changes. Rooted my galaxy tab but today, i unrooted it thinking that the rooting caused the trouble.
im also hoping to update my tab to ICS but with this problem, im really stuck! i dont know how to access my apps in the appstore.
is this a firmware error or a hardware problem? please help me. my tab helps me a lot.
thanks in advance. im willing to add some details if you could help me.:crying:
try to go back to the mall where it 1st connected, if it still doesn't connect, then use your warranty and ask for replacement.
7.7 is notorious for being a bit choosy when it comes to wifi, sometimes, it just stuck with "obtaining IP address" then will revert back to scanning.
I also encountered your error before, but I just simply turn the wifi on and off again
before going back to your retailer, try to totally deplete the battery first (it's like removing the battery) then charge your unit and try to connect again
good luck

Ah, sorry, busybox could, and may very likely be the culprit! An older version did just that to my (I have the 6810), and a number of others, tabs.
This was for Stericson's version 8.0 and here was his reply to my email:
Sadly you fell prey to a bug that was in Version 8.0 of my installer. I fixed it in 8.1, but it seems many still got the bugged version.
To fix the issue, you need to reflash your current rom. You do not need to wipe or clear any data.
You can also look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691410&page=2
It has an update method that should fix your issues.
Again, I apologize for this error
Please let me know if you need anything else from me.
I did just that and reflashed my rom using Odin and then re-rooted. I haven't, since, re-installed Stericson's busybox although later versions supposedly fixed the problem. I see there has just been another update in the Play store.
Damn I got the same error today, also after a lot of updates came trough.
Still working on fixing it. Will restore backup first after full wipe..
EDIT : Ok just went to recovery via power+volume up , factory reset, a nandroid restore and wifi working again.
Phew.
Ah! Got my tab working again. Thanks guys for the link and comments. The (update. Zip), did fix the issue. Busybox related bug. Starting to re download my apps again since I got my tab data wiped. :-(

[Q] Wifi doesn't work on ICS aurora 5.0 update 20

Hello.
First of all thanks dzo for an amazing ROM Updating to latest version I faced a couple of problems, with wifi. First i had ran ICS 2.0 or so for a long time since that was working great i didn't see the need to update again, but now checking the thread and seeing there's loads of updates and hotfixes i decided to go for it and update to the latest, 5.0 u20 version. I decided to clean-up first, so i reverted back to 2.3.5 official and re-rooted and installed CWM 5.5.0.4, then ICS aurora 5.0 experimental, booted it up to see it was working ( I got to the startup screen, but couldn't press any buttons as the touchscreen was not working, not sure why but i continued updating hoping it would fix) and then rebooted back to CWM, installed 5.0 update 20.. Everything working fine now, except once i try to connect to my WIFI. I insert the password like I would normally, but instead of getting the "connecting... receiving IP" etc. it doesn't say anything. I can just see my WIFI as available but not able to connect to it.
I didn't want to give up so easily, so I re-did everything, now after 5.0 experimental i installed update 2 to see if some of the hotfixes caused the problem. Yes indeed, with update 2 my touchscreen was working just fine and so was WIFI.
So here I am wondering, what could be the cause for not being able to connect to my WIFI and how would I be able to fix it? Or maybe just settle for one of the earlier hotfixes, but I would prefer to sort this thing out.
Thanks.
Got same thing but with me its on every rom.
I think its because of the GB update I did. Maybe it had an WIFI problem the one that I had

Maybe you should just do all wipes again and flash up20 again. If you really want to update, wait for a newer version and try again
Lol... Well i did restore my backup back to 2.3.5 original ROM, then update thru ALL of the updates but no luck.. Then once i was out in shops and found a public WIFI, decided to try to connect, and voilá, it connected... Now back at home i decided to look thru my router settings and switched the mode to 802.11b+g and instantly connected... So i dunno, but now it seems to work.

Had this issue since Dzo changed Aurora's kernel to 3.0.8. I don't know why but after Aurora 3.1 wi-fi can't connect to my network if it's not a b+g or just b. After I understood that the problem is in wi-fi mode on router everything went fine.
Update 21?

Somewhere in aurora thread in development section. You must only search.. You'll find it.
