When Android 2.1/2.2 can be ready for X10i ?

last month i just selected X10i instead of HTC Desire, now Desire just announce Android 2.2 released. Why i can't find any Android 2.1/2.2 Rom for X10i ?

Because SE dont wanna upgrade to 2.2. They just sheduled an upgrade for 2.1 at Q4 this year afaik.

We'll see an official 2.1 ROM in the near future, before the end of September. 2.2 will take longer.
Currently a lot of dev work is being put in towards cracking the bootloader and with any luck it should be fixed relatively soon. So no custom ROMs yet but the bootloader is being worked at and we have an initial version of CM6 ready to go.
As for picking the X10 over the Desire I can only go with my personal experience and say that you made the right choice. I've used both and the X10 has a better screen and is sexier overall imo. So even though the Desire will get updates earlier the X10 isn't too far behind and worth the wait.

So is it fair to say that if the X10 comes to ATT in usa the X10 will become much more popular and therefore gain many more devs? I dont like the iphone but I must say the iphone dev team really knows their ****. ( Not saying that the devs here dont but i think there are many more devs for the iphone which is why they crack new FW within days usually.

I hope that is the case. Developers here are hard working and cracking is not one man's job. We need groups of developers to crack it. More users == more developers working on that particular phone.
I bet soon we will see some big jump movement forward towards 2.2

Guys, I too agree that iphone devs do get the jailbreaks and other stuff out the door rather quick, but that is apple, this is sony. It should be safe to say that X10 devs have a worthy adversary. If you recall, xbox was cracked pretty soon but the ps3 took about 2 years. Sony is good, but I put my faith in X10 devs. It's only a matter of time but they'll get froyo on our fones am sure

From my knowledge SE is pretty much just the old Ericsson but with some Sony bits tacked on. Afaik they're still based in Sweden and haven't changed much. I remember having two cellphones from before the merger and the Sony phone was utter ****e while the Ericsson still works to this day. It's an old GA628 from the mid 90s, I don't use mine anymore but my grandad still hangs on to his. They're built like tanks, they just won't break.

Android 2.1 is coming to the X10 Family Sony Ericsson in October or November
Well we heard about upgrading the X10 for a long time. Then I was informed by source inside SE that it will have an update from Android 2.1 and X10 to X10 Family, the whole family.
Here’s what a source inside the Sony Ericsson Accessory wrote us:
“From November 2010 the software will be X10 Mini updated and now supports the Android 2.1. This update can also be done on all X10 mini bought before that date. ”
The update on Android as well as leaving the unit more fast will still cause images to become very best. Currently, the X10 can only display 256 000 colors. With the upgrade they can display up to 16 million colors.
We talked with the Communications Department Sony Ericsson and confirmed that:
“The X10, X10Mini and X10Mini Pro will be updated in October. ”
“After the update they can record HD video.”
Note:I don´t want anyone ilusion but let's wait for the sony ericsson first to comment so I just hope not to get a guy of this fool for news.

Likewise, am checking it too every now and then so I don't miss it. Sony is supposed to provide the update to 2.1 by September or October 2010, I hope our devs can get froyo on our fones before that, it'll be a shame to lose root with sony's update.

I dunno what deal does sony and ericsson have, but one thing is for sure, the merger did provided some good looking and powerful fones off of it.

Ericsson GA628 was my first phone to. Great phone with a rock solid build.

i think sony played a major part. don't think Ericsson old day can design such amount of sexy looking phone.

Yeah, that's sort of how I imagine the cooperation works. Sony lets Ericsson do what they're good at, making great phones, while they take care of the design and multimedia bits.

i agree, but am just another sony fan. i believe any two companies that can ever be on same level of great designs and eye candy stuff in any product are apple and sony.

Im starting to get fed up with the x10 being so slow. Heading into the direction of getting a Nexus One. Should I calm down and wait or switch?

Actually, its coming near the end of September from the info that I have. Also, it will not be the last update we see this year, there will be another major update end of the year (though not platform upgrade). My guess is 2.2 is coming in Q2, not sure of the timeline, but coming for sure

Will your next phone be a Sony Ericsson?

Sony Ericsson haven't exactly been timely with there updates to the x10 neither have they been efficient with the ROM's they've made so personally I think I'll switch to HTC but I was wondering whether anyone will stick with Sony Ericsson for there next phone?
There hardware is great, I'll give them that but I feel its ruined by bad software that looks pretty but isn't efficient enough for daily use. I think if they can really get up to date and prove that they can keep up to date with other manufacturers then maybe I'll consider getting something like the supposed Zeus phone but as the Xperia series stands at the minute, I don't think I'll get another Sony Ericsson.

Ha! I highly doubt my next phone will be an android device all together.

I suggest every1 who don't like SE try another phone 2 realise how beautiful x10 really is.....

Maybe. I guess it depends on a few things. My primary consideration is if their next phone will have AWS (and not on contract). My second consideration(s) would be how they treat the X10 now (yay for MT!).
Pretty much it breaks down like this:
• If the X10 stays at 2.1 then there's a ~5% chance that I'll go with another SE
• If they update the X10 to 2.2 then their odds rise to ~65%
• If they update the X10 to 2.3 then their odds are a good 99.9%
• Unlocked bootloader? Probably won't happen but if it does then it's a solid 100%

Se may have been slow to update to 2.1. But look at how pathetic samsung is at updates

I think I'll stay with Sony Ericsson.
But I don't know if I'll change my opinion in the future, when an other brand releases an awesome phone.
But at the moment I say: Sony Ericsson 4-ever

Very much doubt it, only went se as I was impressed with the camera on my last se phone (k850i), but the x10 camera is very disappointing! Also the call volume almost makes the phone unusable! (was also low on the k850i)

x10 is fail in my eyes..

My next phone will probably be a SE one.
Only had SE's over the last couple of years.
I doubt if it will be android again though.. I also still have the SE Aino wich is Symbian based and of course it has less capabilities then android but it is so much more stable!

Mine is a work phone, but I do get final say. I would stick with SE IF they get their act together with the updates.
In call volume, I really don't have a problem with it, my hearing isn't great and I don't have a complaint about it.

No I don't think my next phone will be a SE, because off lack of the support and slow reaction to the new versions of native Android OS. They maid a wonderful accessory (Mw600)to replice the missing radio, but this too don't work in full functions like display names of the caller & song titles.
In conclusion SE products have a grate design and do less than u expect.

HTC has the upper hand since they started first with Android, "HTC Magic G1", so I think they are more experienced than Sony Ericsson, but with time I'm sure SE will catch up hopefully
And you can't stop people from complaining, some complain about 2.4 already

I'll pick Arc for sure. The design is way better than any other competitors. Looking into the released vedio of Arc, the software development capability of SE can be trusted. I think they just need some very little time to catch up.

Sony Ericssons new software design makes sure there is as little 'critical' integration as possible, so they can release updates to the OS or their own apps without having to worry too much about other things breaking. Also, developer Arcs running 2.4 have been spotted, so even while the Arc -and- 2.4 aren't out yet, SE is already working on it.
I personally also think Google really likes Sony Ericsson. Sony Ericsson is one of the few companies that decided not to release any phones with Windows Phone 7. Samsung and HTC both are also targeting Windows Phone 7 markets. Because of SE's focus on Android, I think they realize they have to do their absolute best now, and I also think Google is slightly favoring them when it comes to developing for the latest version of Android.

I remember reading a while back google approached SE to design their nexus phone and SE was not interested.
Imagine if SE's Arc is actually Nexus S? I think it would have been more successful than the ugly design done by Samsung.

I don't even think they tried, to be honest. Sony Ericsson has always tried to differentiate with their very own style of software. Every Sony Ericsson-device ever released has a very distinct Sony Ericsson-feel, if you know what I mean. With a Nexus phone they'd have to completely drop all software changes and just provide the hardware. They couldn't add some Walkman or Cybershot stuff, no BRAVIA engine, nothing, since it'd all have to be stock Android. And that is something Sony Ericsson just doesn't even want to do. (It's also why they ditched Windows Phone 7)

If you got a 1ghz Smartphone atm,dont change it.
Why ?
1)Arc has also a 1ghz CPU like the others,yes it will be a bit faster but nothing from the other world.
2)SGS2 and Atrix sound very sexy but they are very expensive.
3)Quad-core Tables coming into August,and mobiles phones a bit later. So you'll gonna have to refresh phone again in 4-6 months =p
I am sticking to the X10 for now,im gonna skip the "Dual-Cores" and wait directly for the quads if i buy a new phone...besides...a mobile phone with quad-core cpu's....where the hell are we going?. Im seeing a Mobile Phones crisis coming...people are not gonna be able to keep up buying phones one after another if they are outdated in less than 5 months...jeesus...
That said,the SGS2 has more than double the power of the Arc,so that tells it all.

They have to prioritize their team to provide 2.3 for only X10. While most work to bring CM7 to X10/X10mini/X8 has been done by only 2 devs: jerpelea and racht. Such a shame to SE.

I love my X8 but...
Don't get me wrong, I love my X8. However this is the first, and last, time I shall ever buy a Sony phone. I only bought mine last December, after a big Christmas marketing push by Vodafone here in Portugal. Imagine my dismay (and disgust!) to discover, after less than a month, that Sony already considered the phone obsolete before I'd even bought it :-(
Oh well. Live and learn I suppose (but it also makes me much less likely to buy anything Sony in the future...)

Rendering my x8 obsolete after only 4 months after seeing 1 proper update (1.6 --> 2.1)... not good.
Was planning to upgrade to Xperia Play, but I no longer trust SonyEricsson and have given up all plans of buying any of their products again.
That being said, XDA makes the x8 a very decent little phone. But still the XDA devs are fighting an up-hill struggle against the lockdowns imposed by SE. Thank you XDA, screw you SonyEricsson

Well mates, I think it's time to make some noise in SE blogs, this is not only a discrimination, this feels like your older brother was given by it's mother a bigger and better toy to play with, and we, the younger sons, can play with lego for eternity. Ah... This is a lack of respect, lack of sense, we do not only need that upgrade, we need recon. We are costumers, we spent our money buying the phones, we are SE future, our opinions and thoughts will count in next sales. We can't just be left behind, I know SE certified some firmwares recently, but, if they were thinking to upgrade us, they would have done it now at same time as X10.
Well it seems this is a way too give further security to bootloader, and remove kexec exploit. There's no downgrading after this. It's a terrible choice (my thought). So, we (x8,x10mini/pro owners) don't really need this upgrade since we have J & racht & so many great developers contributing, and I have so much to thank them for the hard work, precious time they take to do it, and for sharing it with XDA community, well I can say, with all users around the world. We are very near to reach total freedom.

Me too but worst is that their profit fall 20% from 2010 and they are so bad to custumers,realy and one more thing why they put so expensive phones in sale,x8 and minis will sell better with better support because they cheap but for 100 $ more i will buy htc wildfire.

Sony want this upgrade, and maybe this software update will also bring an bootloader upgrade, which will give us no chance of Xrecovery or Root, So, i stay with XDA

Obviously not all these features can be implemented because of hardware limitations, but swype texting is great

Yum, better hope for Android 4.0 for Arc and Play so we can port futures to our phone.

Other than hardware limitations we can probably port any future SE updates to the x10.

i myself am waiting for when SE will release a phone that will be a "super" device. i mean my x10 has great features and even though it lacks a bit from everything comparing it to the arc or the new neo v, it is sure a pleasant device to play around with.
i'm not that crazy to go buy a 200-300 euros more expensive phone for just some more speed and smoothness. they run the same software for crying out loud. basically i am waiting for the next generation of android devices... for now, my x10 has an "ok" price on the market and it does its best to please me
to all of us, we should stop looking for new updates to this phone. SE gave up on x10 since 2.1 update and gave us a crappy 2.3 update just to make us hold on to their device. let's enjoy what we got

But devs can probably port a lot of the new updates onto the x10.
You should be happy that SE when decided to keep working on the x10 and atleast we have a 2.3 stock since it makes it easier for devs to make custom roms and improve the phone as much as possible. I mean yeah SE messed up with the chipset but if you look at other phones from the the time period the x10 looks the best and is a great deal for its price.

I am more than happy after official 2.3.3 update install on both white and black X10i.
One of the major advantage on 2.3.4 is video calling with Gtalk, but we have to deal with root problem (yes, kernel swap does the trick).

no big deal. most of these features can be ported to our x10s. even the 3d home screen... already have it with the SPB shell 3D app. Swipe already have it, Livedock feature seems really interesting but it's only accessory. the feature is see that wont work is the front facing camera we don't have.

Livedock is the coolest feature imo, too bad it's the only one that can't be ported to our x10
