Google's new version of Froyo for the Nexus One

I am not sure if this is of value or if any of you are not already aware, but decided to post this in case it is of any worth to any of you who are working on developing Froyo Rom to work on a Sprint HTC Hero.

We still need source code to get Mic and other things working.

Under their own laws (found in Settings>About Phone>Legal Information), when Google officially releases Froyo for ANY device (Nexus, Droid, G1) they must release the source code. So, once they release a device version of Froyo, they must release Froyo on source.android.com.

Google is becoming very HTC-y about source. Give it a week or 2. FroYo has been out for N1 for a couple of weeks now. This is an updated FroYo.
Still waiting on the source tree to drop sadly.

Froyo isn't out yet. Google has not released it yet. There were some review units that Google sent Froyo to for review purposes only, but it has not been released to the public. The only reason the public has it is because of these leaks.
I expect Google to have it up as soon as it publicly drops. Now HTC on the other hand...

This is incorrect. The Linux Kernel source is licensed under the GPL which means when you release something that uses it you must release any modifications you made to it. Android however is not licensed under such a license. It is under the Apache license which means any changes that Google, HTC, Cyanogen or any other entity makes to it do not have to be released. Now, Google changing the kernel source, yes that does mean they need to release that. But just that. They will release it all in time though. Should be this week or next week I would assume.

Not all devs have left. Damage, fresh, and toast were not the only ones who can do dev work and if u believe they were then go get an evo and dump ur perfectly working hero on someone not as ignorant as u r

I have no doubt the Evo will get it first. But we still have devs on the board.
Darch has already commited to building an AOSP FrpYp, and there is enough documentation laying around here for anyone with some Linux-Fu to be able to take out our Hero Kernel and drop it into any system dump or boot image and at least make it bootable. Not necessarily 100% functional, but bootable.
I have no doubt that within a few days of Google dropping FroYo source that we have a functional version.
Also, I at this point in time don't care about HTC Sense UI. AOSP is awesome with ADW lancuher. That thing only keeps getting better. He has a build with gesture controls built in coming soon.
The ONLY thing I don't like about AOSP is Exchange emails with more than 1 attachment won't show me the email text...but I think this is just a user error.
For now I have been forwarding the email to my Gmail address to read it.

Yes there is. Start developing. Don't whine that someone else isn't doing the work anymore. Step up to the plate and do the work. I'm sick of people whining about developers moving to different phones and leaving users behind. They're not "leaving users behind", they're moving forward and they owe you nothing. This isn't the Marines. This is technology and business.
Complaining about them upgrading and not working on the ROM for your phone is like complaining that they didn't write ROMs for the G1 or Nexus 1. Should they be forced to buy those phones to develop on? Absolutely not.
Besides those points, your post still contains some ignorance. Damage stated he's not giving up development for the Hero, he's busy getting married this week. TrevE said he's backing away from the Evo for a bit to focus on the Hero. Darch is definitely still around, despite people trying to get him to move to the Evo. Where's the problem?

Fresh and Darch are still dev'ing for the Hero as far as I know (I'm running Fresh Hero 2.3 beta which is only a couple of days old). I'm not sure about the rest but as long as those two are going strong there are good things to come.

Before I rooted I would read all these posts about how great the roms would be after Sprint released 2.1. So finally I rooted this weekend, and as I look through all the ROMs they all have major issues, and a lot of the major players have moved on to the EVO. So is that it. As soon as 2.1 comes to us we are left with a bunch of roms that don't work any better, or worse, then stock? That is unless I'm willing to cut out all of HTC and Google software.
Please give me advice as to what I do with this rooted phone now.

Not all of the phones have major issues if u read a lot of the roms they tell if they have any. Also there r stock roms that can be overclocked. We've had three or four devs leave to the evo. That not the end of the world plus they left with final full working roms. If ur not happy with something then for it itself or realize nothing is perfect and that these devs spend a lot of there free time cooking there roms and get real tired of hearing people complain about something that us free. Be a little grateful. Read, search, to a little homework and then ask the questions u have inside ur head before u post a dumb question

I would chalk up the majority of the "user problems" to user error such as not wiping between flashes or bad 3rd party software with memory leaks or preventing the phone from sleeping...
Sadly a good number of devs went on to the Evo, even worse is some left in the mid of new releases without fixing some bugs.

Even though a couple of the dev's have moved on, there are still some great ones working on the hero. There are at least 6 or 7 fully functioning roms built on 2.1 right now and there's even some movement on 2.2.

As soon as 2.2 is fully functional I'm gonna make a rom of my own with it and I've got my second rom comming soon to 2.1 woohoo lol

Lol, I have been a member here for more then a year, but I don't post because I know what you get here when you post, I had 2 people call my question dumb or call me ungrateful..
Anyways, I was not being mean to the devs. I think their feelings are still intact (those who have not left)
As for reading and searching the forums, which the "positive" posters repeat like a mantra.... well I have been reading, I've been reading like crazy, and All I see are problems with the Roms because no one ever posts positive feedback.
However, I gather from those more productive posts here that the ROMs are very good quality. So from here ill try them out myself, and refrain from posting again for the next year.
Thank you and sorry to all those with tender feelings who where offended by the simplest of posts.

Just an FYI for everyone Fresh just put out a 2.5.2 BETA to donors.
I assume he will leave this one in 100% working order before he dumps the hero for good.
I think he said in the email something along the lines of "last build before FINAL" but don't quote my quote.
I haven't run a damaged ROM in weeks - I went from him to Darch which I feel is the end all.

That is my first rom. Coming next is Red dawn to 2.1 roms. I might convert them over when froyo hits

That's odd. I see people in DamageControl and Darchdroid thanking the devs all the time. I haven't had any major issues at all and very few minor ones.

Lmao maybe u need a bath to get all the sand out of the unmentionable places lmao

Aloysius 2.1 is rock solid, fast, chocked full of goodies, and did I say, STABLE. Blows any stock Sprint ROM out of the water. DarchDroid 2.7 is good and fast if you like AOSP. And I liked RegawMOD a lot too (use Honeybun OC kernel for extra speed). Plenty of others out there as well. I really liked the Blue ROM but my Hero won't load it. Just try them and quit worrying about it. Use apps2sd and then nandroid and you can go back and forth without losing your apps.

Last build before "FINAL" just means the last non-beta release before an official / final release .

The Mytouch Slide isnt dead!

Many people think it is dead and there are no devs working on it anymore, but this isnt true. There are still multiple devs with this phone, yes some are working on other phones but look at this device, it has everything. We already have Froyo, and really we need the source to get the bluetooth working so now were only waiting for HTC to release the source. You could be on another device that is outdated or even unsupported anymore.
So be patient, well be getting S-Off and Official Froyo soon

I'm with you. Even Cyanogen takes care of Slide.

anyone remember the "froyo coming soon" in june? i don't we're going to get official froyo at all. Look at most roms, "updated 10/08!!!!" thats more than a month that it was updated, the development for this phone is dead.

Development isn't dead it's just slowed. There are new phones to work with. It's more fun to dev on a phone that's new and to an extent unknown than one that's pretty much given up all its secrets.

i just feel like g2 just got permanent root yet if you see their forum they have had many different updates, for many different types of roms, from many devs and besides team douche the only updates we get are people porting other roms....ever month or two. i would love to see this forum as lively as others, but at this point its not so.

I'm not a developer, but I do know that this would be an extremely difficult task due to different screen resolutions. Just wait for official TMO Slide 2.2 and we'll have some great roms no doubt about that.

I knew that resolution may be challenge, but If that issue is beaten then it'd bring more options, this phone would reach its top development. I know its difficult, but it seems that we won't even gonna get Froyo from t-mobile, but devs made it possible!

We are. T Mobile has confirmed it on many occasions. If froyo is on the myTouch 3G...we will 100% get it on the Slide.

By the time we get official Froyo, there will be Gingerbread already for some devices I think. I wish they skipped Froyo to release Gingerbread update instead.

From HTC and Tmo's standpoint, updating these phones is gotta be the last thing on there minds.
Face it updating these phones doesn't make them any money.
Frankly they'd both be happier if you just bought another phone.
Manufacturers and Telco's are in the business of selling phones and cellular service.
Not making FREE updates.
I realize if we had official froyo from Tmo and the bluze source that would add additional functionality to our phones,
but, personally I don't even care.
What I mean is that I'm satisfied with what team douche and the bunch, as well as other devs are doing and have done for our phone.
I put more faith in what they will come up with than waiting on anything from HTC and Tmo.

You people(not all) are impatient, I had a cliq and they promised us 2.1 update last december, you when cliq users got it? Acouple weeks ago! Ya ok it maybe a little while but if you had any consideration of what their doing, youd be a little more patient. They have port the whole rom to 2.2, some may say that isnt so hard you go and try and port a app or something from 2.1 to 2.2, Goodluck. Also I talked to Cheifz and he said S-Off is done for the Slide and AlphaRev is waiting to finish S-Off for another device so they can release both at the sametime.

Its 100% verizon fascinate froyo build, it was leaked like 2 days ago.

Things don't usually take two days to hit forums.
Unless it looks like someone could get fired for the leak.
Fascinate users are HUNGRY to not be on eclair.

I'm new here and as such, a lot of people won't give a sh*t what I have to say, but I'm not PMing ANYBODY. This leak will make it to us sooner or later. Personally, I'm waiting for punkkaos (whom I've donated to) or jt to release either a non-traceable version, or a deodexed, rooted version, which I'm sure they will do when they are good and ready.
I'm guessing that will be by Monday, but either way I'm not going to bug someone or (potentially) cost someone at Samsung or VZW their job. We will have it when we have it. It's not like they're holding it back to be pricks.

Cyanogenmod (like kaosfroyo) is better software. Hopefully this new group build will help that rom move forward more anyway.
I'm tired of samsung's junk software. The developers around here will make good work of the froyo leak, if it's out.

I know masri, he is a good man. If he says he truly has a leak and is serious then he does. He may just be protecting his job. But I've been hone since the irc server went to Droid life so what the **** do I know?

I am personally very happy that Kaos is working on anything for the fascinate, but i have grown to really like touchwiz, it is the best skin I've used, much better than sense. I've tried the vanilla froyo and cyan, but I'm holding out for touchwiz 2.2.
Also, mods need to shut this topic down.

I have found that sprint EPIC 4G had got the Gingerbread,but we only get froyo.

LOL, we aren't even supposed to have froyo. Gingerbread (unless IMNUTS pulls another rabbit out of his hat) won't happen, that I can see. According to another post, they are working on a symbian rom... that should be interesting.

If we all took up a colkection and paid a dev (or sammy employee for sum source haha) then we might get sump cool... but even then probably not GB....not till they release it for fascinate....but then again I dont know this jus my humble opinion....but im serious about donating for dev help!

I'm a developer (not for android though) and I can tell you it would be one hell of an undertaking. Best case is to wait, Samsung did announce GB for Galaxy S devices, however none of the US devices have gotten it yet.
And fascinate ROMs don't work all that well for us unfortunately

The Symbian ROM has been put on hold. We are now working on DOS Mobile.
