Would you all recommend ditching my Sony x10 for the hd2 running froyo - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi I really want froyo but like my x10 but I don't know if I can wait much longer for the hack so if some of you good people here con give me so pro and con I mite be able to make my mind up thanks for your help

With NAND seemingly right around the corner, and the HD2 running froyo so well on the SD card. Why not? If you decide to make the switch I have them for sale right now. Just $250.00 barely used.

Well, the pros of owning an HD2 is Froyo ROMs are readily available. Bigger screen. More RAM. And soon NAND flash make Android even more seemless.
On the other hand, Xperia X10 is a nice looking phone SE sure know how to make them.

Personally, I would ditch the X10. Its a nice phone and everything, but this is an exciting development. I rarely have any hiccups in android anymore and the battery life has stabilized after having run it as the primary o/s for so long. With every update it gets better, and looking forward to the future, there are more updates and o/s's to think about! But if gadget tinkering isn't your thing, I highly suggest you stick with a phone you like stock!

Please Understand that if you do get a hd2 you get it knowing that android is and will be beta for a very long time. also not all users experience the same results.
That being said I love my hd2 and probably wouldnt trade it for the world. I dont use wifi tether at the moment so if it doesnt work I dont care. I dont really use bt headsets so i havent tried to get it working but that is hit or miss.
Sense you are already use to android It wont be so bad. Alot of people are use to windows and are trying to make it function the same way.

I did the same perfect deal, good to have multtouch again, and the hd2 on android is faster then x10 !. It;s not perfect but hey you always have winmo

I sold my Samsung Galaxy S for an HD2
Would never look back, runs smoother amazingly but this is true, found the Galaxy S had lots of lags and halts, but I believe froyo is coming soon for it.
The screen is larger and more controller over the brightness settings.
The HD2 is made so well and has a superb camera and flash.
You get the best XDA development there is, there is some much to do, from hundreds of WM ROMS, to a massive Android development, not sure any other device offers this much.
I would go for it, but it takes a while to get into the hd2, read lots on here, be patient and enjoy.

Don't do it. Get a "real" Android phone instead, like the upcoming Desire HD.

Hi all thanks for ur help I got the hd2 ive got froyo running and I'm loving it and the phone the screen is more responsive and know I can see what all the fuss about mt is too can't wait for nand now

hd2 is not multitouch at all!

I have an HTC desire but I saw the HD2 screen is huge, Compared to desire but than desire has the Amoled and hd2 only simple tft.
I was leened over to exchange it with the Desire , but after seeing these facts I don't know . .
What about NexusOne, which is better ? Nexus or Desire ?
Sent from my HTC LeeDroid 2.2 using my swyping thumb!

the nexus ist the desire with two little differences. desire has a optical trackpad, nexus a mechanical and the other thing is that the desire comes with the sense ui where the nexus comes with plain 2.1.
apart of that the desire (amoled) has the same hardware as the nexus. but you have to be careful to get a amoled and not one of the newer series with s-lcd. i don't want to say that s-lcd is not as good as the amoled, i really like both.

yes.
sony vs hd2? no question.
even when hd2 runs it only from sd card

Definately, i swapped my HD2 for the x10 and came straight back to the HD2 as soon as android was available never regretted it
Ricey

Don't knock the simple tft screen, easy to read in direct sunlight, the HD2 screen is perfectly sensitive also, may not have the multi touch capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S, but neither do the Nexus or Desire.
I'd say the HD2 has best of all worlds, still cant beat that huge HD2 screen

You should definitely get HTC Desire HD (after 8th of october)
You can define it as an HD2 with real android.
With hibernate mode, desire hd boots in a few secons after power off.
HD2 nand Android should be near perfect within 1-3 months. You will constantly need to work on it till everybody gets perfect android. It should be cheaper but you must be patient, if you want android hd2 like desire hd.
Froyo is huge difference in android terms and desire hd is the only phone with hd2 screen/hardware and has native froyo.

Hmm ok . So u guys are saying I should switch to HD2 from my desire ? Im a full.android boy, so android would run pretty much like on desire or no some lag or worse battery?
How about the 720p video recording ?
And also one more thing, The colours ? Are they as vibrant in nature on the HD2 as they r on the Desires led?

Ahhh I don't have my HD2 yet but im pretty sure that based on everything ive read the HD2 has multitouch. At the very least it has dual touch.
As far as swapping the X10 for HD2, im doing it. Im keeping my X10 though. The dual boot thing has really got me interested in the HD2. The only issue that im worried about with the HD2 is the gsensor issues while running android.

htc hd2 trade with htc desire?

Hi everyone
usually when people make new threads about asking questions i think - come on man cant u figure out urself?
but now its my turn to ask ur opinion
So i got the hd2 since january and really i dont have any complain till now but a friend at work wants to trade his desire with my hd2..
Both phones arein same condition and work perfectly..
The question is does it worth to trade it or?
I tried several builds of android on hd2 and i see that i like android alot,
but i think till it can really be ported on our hd2 and work flawlesly we will need a bit more time..
So would you trade or wait..??

That's a tough one, I guess it comes down to what you use the phone for. Both phones are nearly identical technically but interestingly the HD2 still costs alot more unlocked.
I've used the Desire a lot and personally I'd probably stick with my HD2. The AMOLED screen on the Desire is great but I just prefer the size and contrast of the HD2's TFT screen.
Tough one though!
Yeah the hard thing is tha size matter!
Im used tpo the big screen now so i dont know if i can handle the one from desire bs its a bit smaller..
I usually use the phone for browsing, emails and a bit of music-movies -gaming..
And also calling , txting
I would go for the DESIRE ! Come on man Hd2 is just about to be burried RIP come Nov with 7 around the corner.
Why don't you too just swap the phones for a week or something and see how you like the other one. If both of you'll be happy with the new one then that's it. And of cource, if one of you don't like the "new" phone then swap them again. This way both of you will be better informed, no matter what you willl decide in the end.

Do you honestly believe the devs here will leave it at "no win7 update", it has the hardware (and two keys extra lol)
On the original post:
I got a great deal around 2 weeks ago and instead of getting a desire for 300ish eur on contract, got a HD2 for 160e
Best choice I ever made, screen size does matter
I'd keep the HD2 for its pure awesomeness and the 90% chance of getting a 7 phone for "free".
edit: also from what i've seen with my short encounters with android, it still has a bit to go no matter how good. Your hd2 is good till android 3 and phone 7 with their respective phones become available, wait it out on the phone change

cant say I agree with that, loads of old devices still have a thriving community, why wouldn't the hd2??
theres going to be plenty ofpeople with no interest in either wp7 or android....
this phones going to around for a while.......
to answer your question, I wouldn't swap.....
i wouldnt swap my hd2 for desire. i bought a legend over the desire because i already have an hd2 with its huge 4.3". its screen size is enormous and it has the processor to handle wp7 if ever it comes out. plus the hd2 has editor in office. in my opinion, i will keep the hd2.
Won't hesitate!!
I definitely would keep HD2!!!
Nothing compares with this beautifully designed massive screen!!
HD2 no doubts just have a look at ugly desire design and small screen don't even think i don't see any phone on the market which can beat Leo at this time...
I don't se the need to replace your HD2 with Desire since we can already run Android on our HD2's. Unless you don't want to use WinMo again.
yea we can run android but not 100% functionable, and thats true!
also i have a data plan wiv unlimited internet so if i boot in android the speed is crappy etc..
hopefully soon the devs can solve al the issues n it will be better..
keep the hd2. android ime is perfecrly usable on a daily basis. i find it just as fast if not faster than win mobile. battery life is same nd network speeds great. yes there are still annoying bugs. but so does win mobile. the sheer amount of apps and stuff u can do outweighs the bugs massively. plus ot only takes a few mintues to get back to win mobile.

the latest released kernals are very fast with no lag it is even faster than the desire , and remember desire don't have proper multitouch like what our hd2 have (don't believe me try multitouch apps from the market ) and with respect to the functionality the only missing thing now is the light sensor and wifi theatering and i think within two weeks we will have a fully functional kernal
Thanks guys for your replies, im convinced now..
just have to be a little patient i think till android will be 100 percent flashable..
Till then i ll enjoy the dual boot and the massive screen

Should I trade my HD2 for a Desire/Nexus One?

I have the opportunity now to change my HD2 for a Desire or a Nexus One. Keeping in mind I will only ever use Android and do not intend on ever going back to windows mobile, should I go through with the trade? How are the speeds between the two devices on Android, say with a SuperRAM build on the HD2 and a build on the others?
Also, would a Desire or Nexus One be the better trade? im leaning toward Desire due to its increased RAM and physical buttons and optical trackpad.

I wouldn't trade only because of screen size, if you don't mind going down to a 3.7" then I'd get the Nexus One for these reasons:
1) AMOLED Screen
2) More stable ROMs with better power management drivers
3) development
4) awesome lighted track-ball
If you even have to ask then trade it yesterday. I don't even understand why someone would waste their time even posting a question like that. Or why I would waste mine answering.

Hmm thanks for the replies guys. So does the Nexus One have better development than the Desire?
Also has anyone who used one noticed any difference in the screen resolution quality between Desire/Nexus One and the HD2? I ask this because of the PenTile RBGW technology both of these phones use which gives it an actual resolution lower than stated.
I had a Nexus with CM 6.1.1 and then flashed back to stock... The phone is OK... I would trade it because it's worth more than the HD2 but it's not faster than the HD2 on SuperRAM. Not way faster but it does go quicker.. Also on the HD2 I am getting H+ vs on the stock Nexus was stuck at 3G.
I sold my Nexus for $350 on ebay... you can get an HD2 on CL for $200-220
Jost for desire hd
Strange question why wouldnt you put android on sd of youre hd2?
Angry birds whas better playable then on stock hero:-o

I would trade not sure which though, maybe desire for sense?
I am thinking something 2, i have HD2 about one year an would like to get something new, but there is notheing what I am looking for.
1. amoled 4.0 or bigger
2. good camera
maybe dell venue one day
my opinion is...Stay with hd2 cause one day you will have the posibility to run even wp7..you can try so many android builds and even running RAM..soon you will be able also ran RAMsense..!!!my girlfriend has desire HD and believe me runninjg desire hd on hd2 sdcard is faster than my girlfriends phone..the only one that desire hd beats the hd2 desire hd sdcard build is that have 720p video recording and faster app downloading via market !!so choose wisely..thats only my opinion
Depends if you are someone that likes to play, experiment etc..
I had a Nexus One, loved it until September this year, awesome phone, great colors on the screen and a fast update from google to 2.2
However, I was getting bored with the device and decided to get a HD2, I view a lot of video on my phone hence wanting the larger screen. The Desire HD was non existent then and I knew android would run on the HD2..
The development I have witnessed since September, many issues being fixed in the short period I have been on board with the awesome HD2 devs has proven to me this is a great developers phone.
One thing I love about the HD2 coming from a G1/Magic/Hero/N1 is that to flash a new rom I simply rename the android folder or modify the startup.txt and boot the new rom while not bothering the old rom.
This on a native android phone requires, Nandroiding then wiping, then flashing. If unhappy with rom then Restore nandroid. the Process is time consuming.
The thing I miss about my N1 is the Trackball for alerts, hell even my Magic had a tri colored LED.. the HD2 can only produce Green and Orange.
If you just want a phone that can run android and is stable and requires little attention, Flash a rom here and there get the Desire/N1.
If you want something to play with that is very flexible then id say keep the HD2.
I personally would not give up the 4.3" now after owning one, I have used a few Desire HD's and they are not bad not bad.. but not worth upgrade/sidegrading for..
Please note: This is all IMHO. Do not flame me!!

Both of those are downgrades, IMO. Why would you want to take a step backwards device-wise, even for a little extra money? Remorse is sure to ensue.
Vibrant is cheap plastic, and lots of issues with that phone (CPU lag, major GPS problems) and there is less developer support on XDA for Samsung phones. HD2 is old hardware, that phone was released Nov. 2009.
Check out this post by another guy that traded his G2 for the Vibrant, and totally regrets it. Don't be him.

If you like trying new phones, the HD2 doesn't qualify. Its a very old phone. 14 month old hardware may as well be 10 years in the smartphone business.
And a Android port is never going to run as well as a phone that is designed to run Android natively. So don't think that you will really have an Android phone on your hands if you buy an HD2 and flash an Android port. Old hardware that runs a very outdated OS, that also has the ability to run an Android port = not worth it.
I'm actually getting an HD2 to run Android and ditching my G2. It has the same hardware as my N1, which is running wonderfully and is a year old now, so I am not worried. I want the big screen, dual LED flash, and the Desire HD ROM. I've been waiting for T-Mo to announce a 4.3" HTC phone but who knows if it'll even happen at MWC so I am using the HD2 to hold me over until one ever comes to T-Mo.
just thought i'd let you guys know, i got the hd2 and am now running CM7 on NAND. its amazing. i love it
I had the hd2 before i got my z and it is a good phone with good support on xda. I just couldnt get used to its size. The z just "feels" better.

Should I get an HD2

I currently have a Samsung galaxy s and I'm pretty happy with it, but at the same time the development for it is starting to bore me, IV realised this is because I'm getting a bit bored with android in general. I just want a bit of a change and nothing really offers that more that the hd2 and its abilities to run 5 different operating systems. But ofcouse to get one I will need to sell my galaxy s to raise the money. I was just wondering if anyone thought this is a good idea?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using my thumbs
I would get the HD2, the samsung galaxy has a better screen as in quality and detail but I like the flexibility of the HD2. Plus it all has to do preference. Its what you LIKE and WANT. Do some research (it already looks like it) and I'm sure you'll realize what you want
yes, because at least you can generate a bit profit from selling galaxy s to buy a hd2, lol.
Anyway, about 5 OS on hd2, don't expect too much!!! Only wm6.5 and android are quite stable at the moment.
WP7? it seems ok with some people now, but when M$ announces wp7's update (very soon indeed), who knows what will happen???
Meego: it's so lagging and some developers have just left that project.
Ubuntu: how much time did you spend with ubuntu on your laptop?
So moving to hd2 because of android while you already have very good one? Or do you want to try the last decade's wm6.5?
I understand what you mean about the is situation bit at the same time, from what I gather, the development scene will continue for a long time on the hd2, whereas the galaxy can only go so far, and if I must confess I'm a bit of flash junkie so hd2 will keep me plenty entertained

Well, if you really like hd2, go on then! I've moved from motorola miletone to blackberry, then htc mozart, finally hd2 now, never ever regret it! 4.3 inches screen is great and always fits my palm.
But in case u feel like "uhm ..uhm maybe hd2 a good choice but...uhm...not sure though...", my advice is sticking with ur current one, as I know that galaxy s is very good as well!
About the flexibility in flashing roms on hd2, to be honest, i was just excited in first few days, and then realised that i can't have enough time to follow every single rom updated daily by hundreds developers, so i chose one rom working fine for me (even bugs still occur) and dont care about anything else!

I'm sure galaxy development will go on as long as the hd2.... the galaxy s series in general is a much more popular series of phones and there are more galaxy s users than hd2 users, so development will go on. But the HD2 is a great phone for being able to run multiple os's... I love being able to dual-boot with WP7 on my main memory and running android off my sd card... both are running very well. Let me warn you, though... the battery life on the wp7 and android ports are not nearly as good as native phones. You'll have to charge your phone twice as much. It can be hard to get a full day out of a charge if you use your phone a decent amount. I recommend getting a spare battery or an external backup battery if you use your phone a lot.
nope !! get a n0kia 3310 !
If what you want to tinker around with your phone, try out stuff every day or two, and I mean literally, then by all means, the HD2 is your phone. However take note, as said above, only android and winmo work "perfect" and the others are a bit iffy.
Nobody knows what will happen to WP7 on the HD2 once that update hits, and it sounds very grim in my opinion. WP7 on the HD2 has problems also, you can read up on the problems in our porblem thread in our HD2 WP7 Q&A dedicated forum.
Ubuntu is not a fun ride on the HD2 either, since despite the 4.3" screen, it's still too small for the OS.
MeeGo seems to be coming along but I don't expect it to reach the stability of android on our HD2's, any time soon.
So think about what you want first. If you wants a phone that works great for what it has, then the galaxy s is your phone. However if you want to tinker,, the HD2 is your phone. Just know, the HD2 while very well rounded, does not excell in one OS.
i am also thinking of buying an HD2... is an in-depth comparison between android HD2 and Desire? battery life? performance? etc...

If you just want to run android, you'd be better off with a native android phone... you get much better battery life with use on a native phone. But the hd2 makes a good android phone for the price, but you will have to put time and work into learning how to set it up and work past any bugs to get it running good. One positive about the hd2 is you can run windows on it too if you don't mind running android off sd card.

Hey there.
I have a Galaxy S, rooted, modified to the max, tried out most of the roms, kernels and so on.
Just last week i found out that HD2 is capable of Win7 AND Android. At first it felt like a stupid idea, HD2 is too old.
After some research, youtube and XDA I have decided. Tomorrow afternoon some guy comes home to me and make the switch.
A larger screen, multi-OS and the fun of changing phones is my reasons
You will see more of me in this part of XDA
Please forgive my bad english!

If you keep your wireless off and keep battery eating things off during standby, you can get ok standby battery life, but its nothing like a native phone. During actual use of the phone, battery drains fast. A few hours of use will kill your battery... an hour of using xda app will take 25% off my battery. My brother has a galaxy s series phone, and his battery will easily last 2-3 times what mine will last of actual use.

I sold my Galaxy S, bought an HD2..now thinking of selling my HD2 and getting a HD7...
Ever since I put WP7 on my HD2 I even tried dual boot with Android, I just don't like Android now WP7 is so good...
HD2 is a great phone for tinkering and trying practically ever single decent UI out there...
I have just had enough of tinkering

The hd2 the best phone HTC has ever given birth to :)

I love my phone. I wish they would rerelease this phone with a front facing camera and a dual core processor what do you guys want on your wish list
What's this got to do with themes and apps??

Agree with the guy above....Seriousley i mean did you think no one knew that the HTC HD2 is the best phone in the world??!! I mean i'll bet you Steve jobs secretly has a HTC HD2 .
>>>>>>>>>>>>>K>>I>>>N>>>>G>>>>>HTC HD2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yeah this really is in the wrong area but I must agree that this is the greatest all around phone ever created. Two years later it is still going strong, eventually it will not be able to compete with newer phones as more cores are added and Android & WP7 evolves but for right now we are still relevent.
Thanks to XDA for extending the life of HTC's greatest achievment as well as all the older devices that are still supported.

Well this not courtesy HTC but the Awesome Dev's here on XDA
Yes it's awesome and its already an "old" phone but it's still as good as the newer phones
Okay dualcore is missing but ram of the tmous version and the rest is the same like the desire hd2 and the os I can use are great

Agreed a front camera and dual core is all this bad boy needs... I wonder what things would be like if it was stuck on WM6.5 tho

i agree 100%. I have choosen it because it had the biggest screen and thanks to great people on this forum(replaced winmo with android) I now have the best phone.
I have it for about a year and people around me bought newer phones, but they still envy my phone. I think its really hard to be happy these days as commercials pump our brains with irrelevant data...
Yea, agreed! I was deciding on an iPhone 3GS and HTC HD2 when I went to sign up for a mobile contract a year and a half ago, glad I took up the HD2 and never looked back.
I love to HTC HD2. and its always best ... even their are lots of new smart phones in the market...
Agreed with everything on this thread (... best phone ... wrong thread etc). If I could add anything to my phone, it would be HDMI-out, but that's only really as a novelty feature rather than something I would use often.
I really can't see myself upgrading until my HD2 breaks or something truly revolutionary comes along. Dual-core may be it, but I have no reason to upgrade until they are either a bit cheaper or better utilised.
I really hope the phone remains powerful enough for Ice Cream Sandwich and newer Senses, because it's truly wonderful hardware.
HTC needs to improve it with the front face camera ...etc and make a HD3
Front camera would be great, but i want better main camera.
My HD2 still gives me much L.O.V.E and now with Android on it shiiiiiit
Peace
I love my htc hd2

if it had a super amoled+ it could be a lovely one!
Simply the best!!!!
i dont even want a dual core processor. the only thing i want to be better on my phone is the digitizer, and the screen.
rly, the glitchy multitouch and touchdelay pisses me off in games.. i want a fast touchscreen like newer devices ;(
but thats the only point..
HTC should make a phone especially for XDA. the HD2 XDA edition!!! with something like the same hardware as the sensation has, just in a HD2 body.. <3
