[Q] SetCPU - Droid 2 General

Is anybody using setcpu and if you are what are some settings that worked and didnt work for you

I tried it...but didn't reallya see any better batt life...let me know if u have better sucess. I only added a sleep profile so it clocks down to 300 when the screen times out
Sent from my DROID2WE using XDA App

I did the screen off as well, and i also set it to do the same when batt goes under 21%.... it works good that way for streaching out my battery life just that little bit that makes it worth it

I set it to 1000 max 800 min til 40% then put It down to 600 for lower and 300 when the screen sleeps. Battery life is a lot better

Google it, its free from the Dev but $2 on the market.
And I set setCPU to on demand. Never notice any slowdowns and I can get 20 hours of battery life with only 50% of battery life used when my phone used to last only 15 hours.

Bad Battery Life

I'm getting bad battery using my phone. Can you guys recommend SetCPU profiles or settings, or do I need a new battery? Thanks!

In case you've set a min/max something like 19 (min) to 768 (max), try setting the min quite a bit higher, like in the 200-400 range. See if that helps. Also, don't go crazy setting a whole bunch of profiles. In fact, for troubleshooting, don't use any so you can narrow things down.
245 245 works really well and doesn't make the phone take forever waking up

My setup settings are:
Main-806max, 604min
Screen Off-480max, 19min
Battery 50%-768max, 480min
All set to on-demand

Not specific to this topic, but I suspect you really see much difference between 806 and 604...
For your screen-off profile, change the min to something like 245. Just try it for a day or two and see what happens.
I too have poor battery life. We're talking down a percent every 2 minutes. I'm running the Droid does rom. I'm gonna try your settings and see how that works.

My battery drains fast too. I stopped using setcpu. When I'm not using the internet I turn it off. Now my battery last a lot longer.

im at 710/844 2**/4** with half decent battery life. but i do stil walk around with a charger
getting linpacks of 5.783 @ 844mhz!
Well a lot of you have seen my posts on this subject but the op asked so...
I have no setcpu installed, no autokiller. The Froyo ROMs are default set to 710mhz and I enable JIT as it helps battery life. You also NEED to calibrate correctly to see best battery life.
CGriffiths86 summed up my long winded version of battery calibration like this...
1. Fully charge the phone
2. Shutdown, boot into recovery, and Wipe battery stats
3. Reboot from recovery and use the phone as normal until it completely dies
4. Fully recharge the phone
With battery cal, no setcpu, and no autokiller, I get 27-30hrs on a full charge with solid use all day including bt music playback, navigation, calls, texting, and minimal web access.
The other settings I use are.
VMheap 24
Screen at 35% brightness
N2...
What about the other 2 settings with JIT? Do you have them checked or unchecked? Comcache? and Dithering?

I dont use compcache (although I have read that it works well with FROYO based ROMS), and I dont enable surface dithering (doesnt add that much crispness to the display to me and takes away from processing power). I dont believe either of these settings will have much impact on battery life though so try them out and if things are still as snappy as you want then MPTY.
oh yeah try turning off auto sync it helps me a bit
Using CELB 2.8, I get about 24-30 hours of battery life with a fair amount of usage.
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...android-battery-life-should-last-a-day-690439 when Page made this comment, I was at the time convinced that my phone itself was to blame and quite incredulous with regard to his statement. Turned out...he's right, at least in my case. I'd say stop looking at OS settings and focus on the apps you have installed.
I was having absolutely terrible battery life, even with this rom (though at version 2.5 or so), and couldn't figure it out for the longest time. The culprit turned out to be NewsRob, an RSS reader that syncs with Google Reader. I had it initially set up to sync every 4 hours or so, but the default is 1. Somehow, thanks to Apps2SD, when I flashed a new ROM, the sync settings reverted back to the defaults. I finally figured this out and changed my settings to manual sync and battery life has been epic ever since.
Another app that I think was causing some drain was Locale, as it's constantly polling your phone for data about its condition. I stopped using it altogether and am just out the 6 bucks, I guess.
And another thing that helped was completely removing AutoKiller from my phone.
Some more info on SetCPU settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6901762#post6901762
And this guy's very helpful post on general settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6957276#post6957276
Last thing, there's an app called JuicePlotter in the market which is really good at helping see trends in your battery drain. It's free.

With a full battery in the morning, o usually have about 20% left about now which is 10:53pm EST. I charged all night last night, wiped battery stats this morning as soon as I took it off the charger, and I have 52% right now! And I have used it more than I usually do. I don't know why that seems to have worked but I hope it does the same tomorrow.
Oh yeah, Setcpu set to 710 max, 245 min, screen set to manual brightness at 45%

Go on ebay and search for HTC Eris batteries. For $15-20 you can buy 2 extra batteries with an EXTERNAL charger. I run my batteries to 15% or less, pop it out, put in a fresh (cool) battery, and put the dead one on the charger. No more carrying a charger everywhere I go or using a landline because my cell is about to die. Then your settings don't really matter. Even if you can use 3 batteries in a day, you'll have a fresh one (or 2) charged by the time you burn up the 3rd one.

I gotta respectfully disagree - this is most definitely NOT normal. I've used my phone more today than any other day I can think of since I've had it. I pulled it off the charger exactly 10 hrs. ago and I've got 50% left.
I'm getting VERY good battery life with my Vibrant.

But yes - probably a dodgy app.. or a weak signal (local transmitter problem).. can kill your phone as quick as anything else!
I use a combination of Autokiller (never kill tasks yourself), SetCPU and Watchdog lite (Email app on X10's is a major culprit and goes over 80% CPU usage occasionally) to manage battery life. I easily get 2 days with decent amount of surfing and calling. Although if I used Juicedefender I'd get even better battery life but I like to keep 3G on since I get quite a bit of MMS.
I had a simar problem today. My battery was on 74%, the fone randomly froze. I turned off the fone from the power button turned it back on and i was down to something like 56% weird

You can use juicedefender to regulate when to turn on/off 3G/Wifi. For example when screen shuts off or when you turn on the screen, maybe keep it turned off below a certain percentage of battery, etc.
As for SetCPU, I use fairly liberal settings:
Scaling is always on demand and priority is always 50.
Charge AC/Full --> 998 / 245
Charge USB/Full --> 998 / 245
Screen OFf --> 384 / 245
Battery < 10% --> 245 / 245
To save even more battery you can set your profiles to conservative, etc.
I had the same issue when I started using desktop visualizer. Battery went from 3 days to one.

first of all i would like to apologize from all of you for typing that way. the reason for typing like that is my x10 is lagging a lot so i have to type like that so i could type a bit fast. :/
anyways... other problem im having is my x10 isnt charging properly. i plugged my x10 for charging at like 2 am.. and took off at 2 pm after i cam back from school! :s
and the battery was still at 75%
and it was warm (the phone)
i knw i shldnt hav over charged but still...
and all the battery was drained by 8 pm.
i really need your help people..
im worried.. why is this happening?
try deleting all applications and test your phone without using any 3g and wifi to chk if its a manufacturing fault. if it runs around two days without any 3g and wifi and applications your phone is good. and then just be carefull in installing applications. this is the best way to check it.

Better battery life!

Hey guys & gals just wanted 2 share something with u. I recently decided 2 uninstall cetcpu from my phone & decided 2 go with cpu tuner instead. In doing so i've noticed my battery life improve significantly with some profile tweaking of course. If you've run the virtuous htc sence rom with the pershoot o.c kernal u know how disgusting the battery life can b.It literally sucks the juice out of your battery like "Debbie" from Debbie does Dallas sucks the juice out of...well u know. Anyway,i also noticed how little juice the system resources now use up. I included a screenshot of the battery status screen.Hope this helps anyone with battery issues especially if your running the rom & kernal mentioned above, it worked 4 maybe it can work 4 u. P.S I have the screen set to 20% brightness, gps, wifi, blutooth, autosync all disabled.Only reason i mention this is because even with all these things disabled along with a few other,b4 installing cpu tuner my battery would still drain like crazy. Thx.

I don't know how you guys are having such bad battery life. Currently at the moment I am at 22h 11m 51s since unplugged with 57% left. This is all with CM6.1 RC4 w/ wifi + wifi calling on all the time when I am home, autosync on for everything, auto brightness, and some use of gps. Is the phone not quick enough at 1Ghz? I keep mines on stock speeds, have setcpu installed but don't use, and have CyanogensMod on it. I get the whole days worth plus more of battery. I can't even kill it when I want to recalibrate it.
A whole day for me is about 16-20 hours for me without charging. This is MADNESS!

Not that the phone is not fast enough. It's placebo effect where people "feel" that it needs to be faster when they overclock it at crazy speed. The G2 has already proved itself a speed monster, none of the android phones out there can top it right now. As for the battery life, I honestly don't notice any considerable improvement.

Hey guys, I'm sorry if there already are posts on this but yeah. My phone is only getting 12 hours max on faux 1.3 ghz and my rom is homebase 3.3 de-blur extreme
and i also have setcpu and I uv it and no widgets. But people are getting like 24 hours+ of heavy usage on their battery...What rom/kernel/uv settings are capable of getting that?

drop the oc kernel and replace with faux enhanced 2.0 1 ghz , setcpu only controls one core at the moment , faux has alittle more work to do on his kernal to get full control of 2nd core so it's not runing at 1300 and burning up battery power
homebase 3.4, update 5.4a , faux enhanced 2.0 1 ghz kernel . battery last for 2 days + 20% left
use setcpu , set up profiles, underclock the profiles
task manager, add most of the apps to auto end list
For me it helped to get rid of market, gmail app, set CPU profiles, alarms, auto syncing, Ebay, juice defender! Google apps seem to be worst offenders.

Battery Life
I had the same problem recently, especially with Faux's 2.0 kernel @ 1.1ghz(1.9 had better battery life :/). Even with Juice Defender(the saint of batter life) I was only getting like 16 hours. My first suggestion is to use 1ghz for standard use, and to create a CPU profile which drops clock speed to 216mhz when screen is off. The difference between 1.1ghz and 1ghz with me was 80% after 12 hours compared to 30%. As I mentioned before, if you're rooted, get JuiceDefender. It has typically gets me 1.4x-1.5x the battery life. That is, even in you're sad case, 6 hours of extra life. Finally, kill Facebook and Browser when you're not using them, they seem to kill battery life.
I don't miss any of it. I check gmail manually via k9 mail , and I can thaw market if I need it. Right now I'm 14 hours with 42% batt.

My battery only last like 4-6 hours with heavy internet + games + video use -.-
Alien Rom.
I'm getting horrible battery life on any deblurred roms. It seems that the integrated battery saver from blur greatly improves battery life.

How much are you using the phone? And how long does it last?
Im constantly texting, probably send and receive 400 a day? Im at 8000 and it has been a month lol. And im always on facebook to, I get 10 hours. And I live with a laggy phone that's usually at 216 even when im using it to prevent it from dying but it still does, im on faux 1.3ghz and I only overclock when I play nintendo64 , blur was horrible for me my phone would almost be dead by lunch and ill try juice defender. Is there a rom you guys would suggest to save battery? On days when in barely use my phone it still lasts only 12 hours. Thia is ridiculous lol

If you have twitter, do the tweet to get $2 free for the amazon appstore and set CPU is only $2.
It has helped me noticeably. It's not going to make it last an extra day, but a few extra hours makes the difference for me.

Cyanogenmod 7 with faux's enhanced stock kernel for CM7. Make sure you have the correct radio and calibrate your battery, another member has already posted the link to that thread. I don't use juice defender or any other task killers or anything like that. Brightness turned to 20%, set CPU profile set to powersave, gps satellites disabled. I'm at 7 hours and 46 minutes with 86% left. This is with 124 texts sent, 1 five or so minute call and a couple pictures taken. If this set up doesn't work for you consider buying a new battery.
I don't know about that set-up that's what my phone is set at, I want a better battery life then 10 hours I wanna get like 16 hours if I can
