Grip the signal to death - Epic 4G General

Is anybody else on here able to grip their phone and have it go from 5/6 bars to 1 or even 0? Im really getting frustrated with this..

well that gives me hope that i have a defective phone..

You are the first person since the Epic's launch that I've seen complain about this... so yeah I'm thinking defective.

Or the phone is fine and seeing Sprints great one day, terrible the next network, but antennagate is causing you to think every low signal is a grip issue.

HAHHA.. oh shoo.. your serious huh?. Nope not here

Not specifically antennagate, the vibrant is my point of reference. Whenever i gripped the bottom of the phone the bars dropped significantly

Why I think the Nexus One will be the best Android phone until the next Nexus phone

My opinion;
Despite all the other HTC Android phones coming the Nexus One will remain on top. The reason why I think this is because having a phone directly from Google itself means you'll get updates before anybody, and popularity from any other 'Droid phone won't beat out a Android phone from Google itself.
So to everyone who has a Nexus One or those people who are scared too get one because another one might make it look obsolete..DON'T WORRY. The Nexus One will remain on top due to the fact that it's from Google itself.
Just my two cents..
I agree with you on that. I just made the leap from the TP2 after running Android on it for a couple of days. I love it. Its awesome.

LOL, I did the same thing. My TP2 is now collecting dust.
So what you're saying is that because this phone is being so heavily backed by Google it will have a very long lifespan?
I think I can agree with that
I came from the CLIQ and man is this phone a speeeeeed demon!
well so far there is very little (to none) support from google......and Nexus One is the worst cell phone experience i have ever had.
The phone is good, the hardware is good, the OS is ok.......It just feels like everything is in beta or made from cheapo parts.

I find very few people who don't like the N1 can actually list real reasons for not liking it.

Well, you know, you should lay off from Google a little. This is there first directly sold phone, and they weren't exactly prepared for all the whining and problems people were going to have. I don't know how they didn't expect for nearly everyone to complain, but apparently they weren't exactly ready to join the phone competition. They haven't had to deal with any problems till now because they have been selling their Android powered phones through carriers..
I honestly don't understand how this phone could have so many aggravations for people though.. like the above poster said, you should also be more specific.
The good thing is that if the 3g connection is good, htc/moterola/exc can't put the blame on Google, Google has to accept the blame, thus forcing them to fix it snappy (hopefully like we've seen with the radio haha)!
coming from touch pro 2 the N1 is amazing
gotta be honest i miss the keyboard but its alright
just the fact that the phone has a 1ghz processor tells me that they are palnning to keep it for a while. ive had an iphone 3g too and so far i still like the n1 the best ...
just one problem so far - the youtube player is stupid and slow... =[
other than that 5 stars

Are people still getting dust under the screen...or has that been fixed.I'm debating if I should get the N1.I had the G1 and loved all the mods you could do to it and the N1 has twice the specs so it's a powerhouse and the only phone out there close to those specs is the HD2.Man I just can't decide, maybe I should wait till all the kinks are worked out.

I love the phone. But the speaker phone suks arse! How do you miss that part in the testing of the phone. Maybe if I bend it a little and give it a HERO Chin that might fix it. Now if I can only get that "bending device" they used in the "Making Of The N1"......hmmmmmmmmm

I don't know if there is a limit. But if there is, then there's even LESS reason to send it in right away, like so many people are doing, and then getting phones with the dust issue once again. Get the phone, enjoy, send it back at 11 months.

IIRC it only talks about 4g, and it shows the actor streaming video through a Moment and using the Wimax Overdrive to power a few laptops

Read the fine print then skip ahead about 1 seconds he's holding a hot spot kinda like wifi with 4g anywhere.
Here I took some snapshots, and edited with the snipping tool
In the second pic the thing circled in blue is the hot spot. I also highlighted some fine print in the first 1.
I'm really wishing my hero supported 4G right now, because I found out yesterday at a sprint kiosk that honolulu has 4G coverage already. QQ

Not only that, but they are advertising it as a "fix" when all it does is show less bars! It doesn't fix the reception issues at all. Ha ha ha.
Sooo... They're pretty much admitting they were lying about the signal strength users got on the iPhone.
Yeah, right. Like we're really going to believe that they didn't know about this since the original iPhone was released? B.S.
apple rushed the Iphone4 out to compete with the evo period
lol, what is this.. the forth generation of iphone and they dont know how to code signal bars correctly??
what a joke.
i feel for those that believe this.
If you read all the rants and flames on the iPhone 4 user blogs about this, it sounds suspiciously familiar....oh yeah, it sounds just like the disgruntled EVO owners!! LOL

It's quite possible that they didn't notice it during testing, or that they had very strong signal where they were testing. You don't work for Apple so you have no idea if they knew about it ahead of time or not. Stop being a conspiracy theorist.

I don't have to work for Apple to know that the main purpose of "testing" anything is about trying to discover issues, which means testing as many variables as possible.
If Apple didn't test in a low signal area then they didn't thoroughly test it!
You guys are completely missing the point....the iPhone has always had sh*tty reception, but users didn't know it because the bars were wrong. So Apple is going to fix the bars with a software update and then users will be able to see that that they ALWAYS have bad reception!!
It's like if the odometer in your car registered one mile for every two miles you drove in a car that gets terrible gas mileage. You think you are getting reasonable gas mileage, but sometimes you're pissed that you seem to be filling up too often. Then they fix the odometer and you're pissed all the time!

Yeah which proves that all the testing was done in dummy iPhone 3 cases so the testers never touched the metal band.

Not to be a "conspiracy theorist" - but I find it very hard to believe that they didn't do this intentionally to help prop up the lackluster AT&T network. The only reason they're fixing it is because they got caught.
Same thing HTC has done in other situations. Large corporations answer only to the shareholders, not to the consumers.
seems to me like apple kind of threw AT&T under the bus on this one... lol
but regardless of the software patch to show less bars... there is still a serious hardware flaw with the IPhone 4 (-24 dbm drop in signal when you cover the bottom left corner... wtf?)
Bottom line... It won't affect their sales. Apple customers are way too deep in their delusion.

I'm sorry, but I don't see "Oh, the signal wasn't getting worse, it's been worse for years" as a legitimate fix.
I don't see "You're holding the phone wrong" as a legitimate fix.
It is, however, a very legitimate issue. The issue is that Apple did half-assed testing (the field units, as we well know, were in 3GS cases...without exposes antennae). They went for aesthetics over substance, again, but this time it really bit them in the ass.
...and this whole "you just saw more bars than you actually got" response is for nothing more than an "existing problem", they don't even publicly acknowledge the "iphone4 works great until you touch it" problem as even being a problem anymore.
There is only so much you can address with software updates. If you don't know any thing about radio frequency propagation, frequency harmonics, frequency wavelength and how all of those interact in the use of a tuned antenna, well...I guess you might think they can deal with this through a software update.
signal attenuation is the least of their actual concerns if they really were silly enough to leave conductive antenna area exposed. Losing signal is one thing, but accidentally tuning your device to a different (unpredictable) frequency is a whole different issue.

Wow this is crazy

Upstairs in my room with good reception I get one hour of sot time per 10% used (Using taptalk and Twitter).
Downstairs where the poor reception is, i get 1 hour of screen on time per 20% used. Same usage.
This is crazy, I never knew reception had such an impact on battery life. Its dumb founding. Sadly i spend most of my time downstairs thus I probably will get subpar batter. Crazyyy[emoji41]
