[CLOSED/G2] Pictures of the back - G2 and Desire Z General

Hey all, I just noticed that Wirefly has some pictures of the back case of the G2. Maybe these have made the rounds already, but I sure haven't seen them before. It's nothing revolutionary, but I'm digging the G2 logo, as well as the "With Google" branding. Hopefully that's really what it looks like.
Just thought I'd share. Enjoy!

EDIT: Looks like Wirefly added more pictures and changed the image links. Here are the new ones of the back. Check out the site for all the extra pictures!

that is the hotness!!!

nice pics but i didn't recall seeing the "with google" logo. just hoping there'll be a better boot logo. found the g1 boot screen to be pretty nasty. maybe it'll be possible to flash on a nexus one boot animation.

Thanks. I hadn't seen this.
I love how the G2 engraving looks.
I'm so excited to preorder this.

Yeah that is totally sexy.

very sexy, nostalgic for those of us with old G1s laying around. i would like to see the same boot screen that the G1 had just minus the t-mobile branding. although recent phones from t-mo have had a really stupid boot sequence with the t-mo jingle and the pink box saying stick together or whatever. so long as it's not the new standard t-mo boot i'll be happy, if i could get t-mo phones that weren't horribly branded t-mo i would like them a whole lot more

Nexus one boot animation >>> shiny android logo. IMO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAFSEsEZnnE

Sorry, I meant the splash screen(black screen that just said t-mobile g1) but yeah the shiney android is/was kinda lame. Would be nice to see an HTC branded bootlogo from the desire z

wasn't a fan of the splash screen. didn't like the large G1 and tmobile logo. remember i spent forever searching up how to change it... though a htc boot logo wouldn't be too bad.

What is that slider thing on the 2nd picture? Seems weird location for battery door remover.

According to one video I found it's a locking mechanism for the back cover
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

oh. was hoping it was some type of mute switch xD

The back looks really cool. I can't wait to purchase this phone. I have a homie who works at T-Mobile, and I told him I'll be there Oct. 6. I hope he get can hook up some type of discount lol!
I like the Google logo on the back - makes it more "legit"

Does anybody know what the phone housing is made of? I know the battery door is aluminum but what about the rest of it?

Area around the screen, aluminium, chin underneath rubberized.
Battery cover aluminium, area around it, rubberized like the chin.
I'm not sure if the rubberized area are rubberized plastic or metal though, but more than likely hard plastic.

pretty sure the whole thing is hard plastic excluding the metal battery cover. though it might be that teflon like material they used in the nexus one.

The nexus body is teflon coated alloy metal.

Baby got back!

Scraped some paint on the Evo ;)

I don't recommend doing this if you value your manufacturers warranty!
I also do not take credit for the idea, as I saw it on a post on another android forum (linked from the white evo with black battery cover thread in the evo accessory forum).
Either way, just wanted to post some decent quality pics of how well this can turn out. I actually took the pics with my dads evo

What I did was take the battery cover off, and mask over the holes of the phone (don't want any scraps getting into anything, this is a messy project).
Then take a sharp razor blade, and start scraping away at the paint. Don't try to cut into it, rather pull the blade along the edge of the phone.
Start at the bottom so you can get the hang of it (and its less noticeable if you mess up).
I took my time on this, took about 30-45 minutes but I got all the edges and corners perfect.
Be careful around the headphone jack, this was the hardest part for me.
Wow! Looks great
I must say that looks pretty nice.

yep; dropped my phone last week, exposed some red plastic on the back corner. may go ahead and do this. don't see why this would void the warranty though . . .
So this with a red back would make a limited edition red evo

awesome work man!
Yep all the plastics on the phone are red. Just carefully drag a razor blade along the edges to get the paint off. Like I said, don't try to cut into it, it'll look like crap.
Wow, yes that looks awesome. Makes you wonder why they dont make a completely red evo if the plastic is already red.
I'll try this tonight.

It was originally supposed to be, but verizon had claims on the red theme with their incredible, then changed the incredible at the last minute and the evo was stuck with the black facelift. Or something along those lines, don't know the exact story but I had asked about it at my sprint training and thats what I was told
that looks great, very a-team looking!

same thing happened with the G1 they launched the black one but not the white one at first wow. thats stupid in my opinion, give us the color option first! lol now i want the black G2, if they launch it ill try convincing the reps at customer service to send me the black one lmao i still doubt they'll change the color maybe if i pay something they will.

and who knows maybe this one wont have the loose hinge lol, i dont personally care about the hinge, but it would be nice if this one comes with tight hinges.

If you think those two phones are black:
a) you need new glasses
b) you need to adjust the colors on your screen
c) you have a vivid imagination
No, but seriously: Verizon's HTC Merge, based on the G2/DZ, might be more of your cup of tea.

I had the black G1 and I got a little tried of seeing it everyday for 2 years. So this titanium color is a welcome change for me. Thats why I bought a clear case instead of a black case. Now my wifes HD7 looks good in black. Overall the color isnt the most important. Im just glad the phone doesnt have the physical "Call" "Home" buttons. I was hoping HTC would have done away with the physical buttons and they did.
you guys DO know those pictures were early testing units right?
obviously when the time came closer to release, HTC decided to go with the color we have not, IMO it looks better than black.
HTC vanguard and it was the original z hinge.. pretty sure T-Mobile will never release it. Check eBay

I'm sure with over 8 billion people on earth that a black G2 exists somewhere, maybe India. One thing to consider, from what I've read in the tabloids, (or movies), people over there are either very wealthy and powerful or they are still living like; well; indians! I think it would be selfish of us to think that we have the one and only G2 (color, that is).
Then, again, there may only be one color!

battery cover peeling off [updated with pics]

well my battery cover started peeling off. anyone else having this sort of issue? im about to scrape everything off n give it the shiny look.
Can't say. Mines just as if I took it out the box and I've had mine since the day of release. I use a clear smoke case tnough so that could be why. Dropped it about 3 times. No damage or scuffs whatsoever. Nor wear n tear.
[G2/HTC Vision]
Describe how it's peeling off...the back of the vision is aluminium..it should not peel off
Sent from my HTC Vision
I have the same issue, its actually the thin layer of clear coating that sits on the aluminum. I dont see it as a big deal since underneath the clear coat is aluminum, it just doesnt look as good while it hasnt all peeled away.

Do you put change in your pocket with your phone or keys? Seems liek something is really scratching at that finish.
I might expect it to get smoother over time, but that looks like something hard has been scratching it.
Mine started peeling like that, too. I always keep it in a pocket by itself. I "fixed" it by polishing off all the clear coat with a scotch brite pad, moving up and down only to leave the nice brushed look intact.

Mine is also in great condition no signs of that tearing, my hinge isnt perfect but not near as bad as some of those videos i saw
Wow that looks pretty bad considering the phone is only a couple of months old. This really makes me appreciate the fact that I put mine in a gel skin case right when I first bought it.
I've seen a coworker's do the same thing. I've had mine in one of those cheap $3 cases since I got it and my SkinIt skin gets here on Monday, so I'm not too worried about it.
Like most on this thread, my coworker decided to try to scrape the rest off, cause he thinks it looks better without the covering than it did with.
I just wish they'd made the phone black instead of grey (my skinit is black, though. )
Anyone have a picture of back with the coating scraped off?
Search on ebay, you can get a replacement one for around $20

White Nexus S

New white Nexus S pics leaked. what do you think? i copied this over from AndroidCommunity.com http://bit.ly/hS1z34
It appears that the BestBoyZ are at it again. Over in Germany there's been a leak of a supposed white-backed Samsung Nexus S. This Google phone has been the firecracker of the past few weeks as far as speed and overall fun factor go here in the states, now it's in white? Man, it's like they're in there own little world, these Google phones.

Is white the new white? Case color offerings seem to be all the rage these past few weeks, with several phones leaking the idea that their battery covers, back cases, and entire cases would be offered in more than just black. This Nexus S appears to have only a white back with a black front, giving it a rather unique look for such an already-wild device.

How to UNBRAND you Motorola Atrix Battery COVER.

I'm with Rogers here in Canada and hated the fact that AT&T was on the battery cover so I did a little experiment and it worked.
1) Get a Penny
2) Using the Penny slowly scratch off the AT&T Logo and make sure you don't press that hard.
3) Wipe your phone battery cover and now it is debranded and the AT&T Logo is Gone and you're phone is scratch free.
*** Use at your own risk I did it on my Atrix and it's perfect but I take no responsibility and I can't guarantee it won't damage your phone ***
how about a picture?
Can't you just use sugar? That's the safe way, because the sugar breaks down as you go. Saw it on Lifehacker, but here's the direct link:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-remove-Logos-from-your-PDA--cell-phone-wit/
Kind of silly how easy that was... I tried a few things and it seems like the penny idea is the best so far. Have some patience. It eventually "catches" on the ink a bit and once part of it comes off, it's a lot easier to get off. I was able to get it off with my fingernail once I got it chipped a little.
I did the AT&T, HD Video and moto logo. Posting pics in a minute. Camera battery is dead.
Edit: ^ I can't speak for everyone, but I don't have sugar cubes sitting around. Even if I did, the prep for that method would take as long as this did. It's really up to the owner to choose, but having just tried the method described in this thread, I'd have to say there's not reason not to just grab a coin and start rubbing. The hardest part was getting up off my couch to grab a penny lol.

And just so people don't freak out when they try this: Not sure about the OP, but you can barely see where the logos used to be from certain angles in the right lighting. Your point? I think most people like debranded phones, especially the types who will be buying atrix's in 6-9 months for 400 or so bucks, which I think is the amount of time folks who debrand on this forum will have the phone.

It's a small thing that makes it look cleaner in my opinion. I'd imagine I can just buy a new cover by the time I might be looking at selling my phone. As mentioned, it might not even be an issue that a buyer would care about anyways.
ahha WOW THANKS OP!
i'm waiting for my AT&T Atrix in the mail right now but i was wondering the EXACT SAME THING for the longessst time!
i personally hate branded phones, and i was gonna see if Motorola sold battery covers on their site just to get an "unbranded" cover, but i will DEF try this penny trick once i get my Atrix
I'm also curious if Bell Canada will release with the Bell branded logo on the cover...

Bells phones are never branded and when their phone comes out it will be $599 plus taxes, I paid a little less than that plus I got one now. To be honest I haven't used mine yet I'm still waiting on the unlock code so its just sitting in my closet.

If you are willing to test it, with no warranty asserted by me, try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on what little bit it left. After peeling off the 100+ letters that comprised the name/location of the shady dealer where I bought my car, a few light passes of the eraser removed the faint outline that remained of the letters.
holy crap. that was the easiest case mod I've ever done on a phone. I literally did it in 30sec with the rounded back of my key. My old windows phones (SMT5600 particularly) had their logos on much harder than this thing

Yep , I just did my mod to my atrix ... I love my pretty much unbranded N1 and now I have my atrix right there with it. Left just the moto label and removed all else and the blur added piece.
Did it with a dull key, looks great. No more AT&T, MOTO BLUR, HD Video, or on button logos!
