I wonder if HTC Desire HD will ever come with 850/1900 Mhz bands for us Yanks! - Desire HD General

Damn just saw the official specs and no support for US AT&T/Rogers Canada bands. Sucks!

well to be fair this is Europe's first 4.3" android device. I've been waiting a year for it too. You guys in the west have two 4.3" android devices.

From zdnet:
"Both of the new HTC handhelds are expected to start shipping to European and Asian markets in October, but North American fans are going to have to (unfortunately) wait until some unknown point “later this year.” On the bright side, there are only a few more months left of 2010, so the wait can’t be that long, right?"

Here is to hoping!!

I really hope so. This is the phone I want, if it can get the TMOUSA HSPA+ speeds. I would sell my nexus one in a heartbeat.

Yeah but not on AT&T. All we have is the Samsung Captivate and an outdated Dell Streak running 1.6 that you can only order through Dell. I am an HTC fan and if this could hop the pond to AT&T, I would be ecstatic.

Did they change it because it now reads:
"The new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 with the HTC Desire Z shipping in North America later this year."
Just the Z, no HD?

Well if you look at HTC's site for the specs on the Desire they list all Asian/Europe bands, but one can purchase the the Rogers HTC Desire and it will work on the AT&T network.
I am hoping the same happens with the Desire HD. Hope Rogers picks it up so AT&T customers can purchase that one.
Additionally I hope they aren't using ClearPad 2000 on it.

Why don't you get the regular HTC Desire? I'm on AT&T, just got one of these, there are 3 models. The A8183 has US 3G bands. The phone is awesome!

HTC US confirms the Desire HD will be coming to US later this year.

Ebay...its an A8183 though, not an 8182. I believe the 82 would work though too. About 650 plus shipping.

To be fair, the States has the Evo 4G...that's a 4.3" Android device. And it's very similar to the Desire HD.

According to HTC, it has USA T-Mobile 3G
There will be specific versions of the device for USA or Europe or there will be one device worldwide?
I'm asking because i'm italian but i'm going to stay in NY for 3 weeks and I could buy one here if it is the same i can buy in Europe.
Thanks
Man, I haven't been on the forums or used my Blackstone for a while now. I am using my samsung Behold right now because I sort of got bored with the HTC blackstone that I imported to use on t-mobile. Soon to be Former iPhone User!

Hey everyone!
I've been following Anroid for a while and when Google announced the N1 for AT&T I almost bit but decided to hold off for the SuperSonic... Now I know I'm jumping ship!
My contract is up this summer and I'm going to get this phone. I don't care how much it is. I highly doubt that Apple has anything up their sleeve this good.
Anyway, I've been very into the jailbreaking community for the iPhones and have gathered that this is the place to be for information on Android phones, so I'm coming over and posting to say hi and join the rest of you waiting for this phone to hit pockets around the USA.

I like to say goodbye to my iPhone too, but HTC won't bring a GSM version to Australia.
Yes, there has been tens of so called iPhone killers in the past, but I think this is the only one that I really take serious notice, and would not hesitate switching to. Just unfortunate that they don't have a world model.
Why would HTC not first concentrate on a GSM model as it usually does? After all, anyone travelling around would require it to be a GSM model rather than CDMA model, I would have thought. This phone is useless if you travel a lot.
wait for nexus one to be useable in your countries, it's been said it's comming for certain to most countires. It's going to be the "universal android phone" There may be some who have already figured out how to use it in some way/shape/form on the frequencies you use. A little research will provide the answer.
Waiting for a cdma, sprint exclusive phone to come to your country... yea... good luck with that. Nexus one will have almost everything this has minus the .5 inch difference in screen size, hdmi out, and kickstand. And some senceUI if that's your thing. I know this is for the EVO but this phone just ain't gonna happen in your country unless you're america.
Crying about why CDMA was chosen over GSM, do you realize the only android phones sprint has are still running 1.5, and have outdated processors in them? Yea **** those CDMA guys and their lousy network.... I'm on GSM and I need 5 superphones, you CDMA guys don't deserve anything. Go back to using push to talk dumbphones... you freaking douches

the evo was designed by htc and sprint, hand in hand. the market for smartphones in the US is pretty big now. and with sprint being the first to launch 4g it was only right, in a business aspect for them both to do this. it has nothing to do with gsm vs cdma. although a lot of us here in the states can agree that cdma rules over gsm! ive had both tmo and att within this last year and by far i like sprint the most. coverage, cost and now the best phone on the planet to date!

Is that so? Does it imply that HTC couldn't offer the same phone under other name to the other market then?
I had always thought that evo is just a variant of HTC Supersonic which was designed mainly by HTC, and that HTC would be free to repackage it anyway it sees fit for the other market.
I've not personally used a CDMA phone myself as it is rather uncommon in our part of the world, so we don't really have the option of using it even if it is really better than GSM.

I'm guessing that the Supersonic was the code name for the Evo 4G. I like the HTC Bravo was the code name for the Desire. And the HTC Passion/Dragon was the code name for the Nexus One.

Aug 15th and 2.1

I think there's going to be a special treat for us to compete in the US android market against devices already on 2.2...
But maybe only in ny dreams
What do you people think?

If 2.1 is suppose to hit Aug 15, one would think SE would make the announcement already. One point six isn't that great of a selling point when most of the other phones have 2.1 or higher.

Why the 15th?
If there's a major SE event that date there might be something to it, August is in the third quarter.
The only major event is that they are releasing the X10 in the U.S. But they already stated it will be coming with 1.6
They are not just going to slip 2.1 in without telling us. We'll know when it's coming in due time.

Since most of SE's sales come from outside North America (I have no official figures, just stating logically) where their phones are bought for the actual cost and not subsidized by the carriers, I don't think that it really is such a big event for them. The world doesn't revolve around us ya know...

Yep, I have been a week in London and I was surprised to find so few cell phones shops (generic shops I mean, not operator shops). That was a bit weird as in Italy cell phone are sold almost anywhere (not by the butcher, though) and only a small percentage is tighten to a carrier contract.
vodafone in Australia looks pretty nice you pay 0 for the phone and $79 a month. I dont know if thats normal there but 0 for the phone looks like a good deal.

I think this aug 15 thing is a false statement. They would have said something about it if it was true.
August 15th is the official release date for the Xperia X10a in the U.S.
Android 2.1 update will not be released until Q1 2011...
LoL @ anyone thinking that Sony Ericsson would actually release anything ahead of schedule.
If anything they will delay the release of the firmware for 2 weeks for for 1 month.
Don't expect the firmware to be released any sooner than November.

$0 upfront is pretty standard here. the handset repayments are included in the monthly bill, until you start getting the the expensive plans where they make the money back through the plan. having said that, I'm pretty fond of mine. i'm on a $0 upfront $59 cap + $10 handset repayments. gets me $300 of calls, unlimited national text and mms free youtube, FB and myspace +2GB.
back OT, i'm waiting on september (or later, carrier dependent)

[DISCUSSION] [NOV 3] RELEASED: D-Z NAM version (850/1900MH)

I've been tracking this for a while
Now it is confirmed:
Bell will carry the Desire Z, 850/1900 MHz 3G NAM bands
I hope other carriers will follow (AT&T ?? Telstra ??)
I'm eagerly waiting to put my hands on a NAM D-Z
Source:

[EDIT] 29 OCT 2010:
Providers are confirming unbranded NAM version Desire Z as soon as the first half of november
[EDIT] 03 NOV 2010:
Bell has RELEASED the NAM version in Canada
.
Interesting. So the ONLY reason I want the G2 now is Stock froyo then.
And if you can flash G2 roms to it.. and the price is right..
i doubt at&t will get this anytime soon them and Motorola seem to be content to give us the most mediocre android availible
Boys, I can't wait for a NAM 3G version.

How do you know the Bell version of the Desire Z is out on Nov 1st..?
I was really hoping for first week of November also since Europe launch is looking to be around then but if you look at the contest rules on Bell's register page the Contest period is "From October 14 to November 30, 2010".
Would there be any point in running a contest based on pre-registration for a phone later than it's launch date?
We may be looking at late November or even worse, early December.
I guess we'll see.

Yea, but the contest is to win a desire Z. I would think that the contest time will not make a difference as anyone will be able to get it for a price after the first week in NOV but @ the contest end, you can win it for free. That's the way I look @ theses contests.
Entrance into the contest is done by registering for updates on the release date and whatnot.
The registration page won't be up after the phone has launched because no one would register for info on the release date after the launch date. Hence why I think we're looking at end of November as a launch date.
The phone that will be available sim free online the first week of November is the Europe version. That phone is not compatible with Bell, Telus, Rogers, AT&T.
The 3G bands are wrong.
Just hit up ebay for the unlocked bell D-Z, I am on rogers and will be doing exactly that.
Considering this over the G2. Any idea of an off contract price?

Bell has already stated $499 w/o contract,
(and a plus: Bell doesn't brand their high end phones)
Let's just wait for the release date (nov? dec?) and they will pop up @ eBay
Thanks! Hopefully HTC would have worked out some of the G2's QC issues before then too.

HTC One in Canada.

Thought I would start this thread for those who have info regarding the upcoming release of the One in Canada.
I have pre-ordered mine through Rogers. I believe the pre-order ends on March 22. Perhaps that is when we may expect the release of the One. That's the most solid info that seems to be floating around.
Anyone have info related to the Canadian release date, please post.

But can i buy it from Telus and use it on Koodo? From my understanding, its the same company, same network, so will i have any issues? Some network incompatibility?
Just moving back to Canada and need to get a plan and phone so im leaning towards Koodo as it offers good plans.
Really hoping the production delays won't be affecting us Canadians too much. I'm keeping close tabs on Mobilesyrup for any news regarding the One's release. Didn't go w/ the pre-order through Rogers. Figured I'll probably get it faster if I check various Rogers stores the day it's released.

Yes,
I did the opposite. I bought a One V from Koodo outright ($175), put my Telus sim card in it and was up and running in no time.
A Telus or Koodo "locked" device work on either. My "my Telus Mobility" page even shows a Koodo One V as my current phone.

Damn I am jealous of all you guys. I got an HTC One X+ about 4 months ago. I would love to have the One but I need to wait for the next iteration. I know for the vast majority of people the storage is enough, but I need at least 64GB. My one X+ has 4 GB free and it is 64. Here is to hoping for the next one. I love the build quality of HTC devices compared to other android vendors, and from what it seems this one is the best so far.

Yup, blackberries are unique because of BBM and the fact that their email etc has to be routed through their servers. That is also why all companies have smartphone plans, then blackberry plans due to the licencing fee. If it is not a Blackberry, it should be fine. The fellow I responded to was asking specifically about the One

I am hoping the 64gb version of the One makes it here (in black). If not, 32gb is fine for me at least. I got the One V as a temp phone cause I was pissed last years One XL and S had only 16gb versions for Canada. Almost jumpsed on the One X+ but figured i'd wait for the inevitable spring / MWC ish flagship that HTC always releases. I am glad I did.

In fact, they just delayed even further the release on the other markets (i.e., Italy was March end, now is April 13th)
