3 most worst problems of our Mini - HD Mini General

3 most worst problems of our Mini
1)Problem with Lock Screen. In missed calls wrong number is appearing.
2)Problem with in-call volume. After phone restarting, we have to push the side button during a call in order to increase the volume, because the initial level is approximately 40%.
3)HTC has released an update which supposes fix the problem with in-call volume. Are you sure that this update fix the problem which is written above (2) ? In case of “Yes”, could we install only the second “update file” (cab) in order to get rid of in-call volume ?
I bring to your attention to all issues above. Please for your cooperation in order to find a solution finally !! Furthermore, if someone has found a solution, I personally beg to publish the solution. Summing up, please try to keep this post ACTIVE !!! We have to pay lots of money for this wonderful mobile. However, it’s a really pity that these problems discomfort us !!! I am sure that together we can find a solution FINALLY !!!

I totally agree with you.
The first problem has occurred more than once on my mini.
The fact is that he always show the previous missed call.
So when your father calls you and you miss it.
And then the next day your sister calls and you miss that call again,
the lock screen will say that you missed a call from your father.
Strange that this has not been fixed yet, since this will just be a minor error.
My best guess is that they search the first missed call (missedcall(1))
where the function is maybe starting to count from 0.

Exactly my friend ! Ragarding second problem about in-call volume ? Do you have the same problem ?

Yes, but...
While the problems listed are serious, to me the very worst problem is the volume. Laid flat, the device is inaudible. Also I find the volume control was placed on the wrong side of the device. I think it should been on the right side but then I am a righty. Also I have big hand and end up changing the volume unintentionally. Because of the extreme sensitivity of the screen and placement of the talk/send soft key, my thumb pad (?) has placed numerous calls. This is correctable but one wonders if anybody at HTC played with the phone before the design was finalized.

I must say that the volume hasn't bothered me yet.

It's really strange !!! Some people have problem with volume level and some others not !!!
Your comments guys... Give all a try in order to fix this problem FINALLY

More serious problems:
1. Phone tends to freeze every few weeks. Only solution is to do hard reset, losing all data from your latest sync.
2. While having a numeric keypad is a great plus for a touch screen device, this great feature of HD mini is buggy. At times, it doesn't know if it's operating under T9 or under abc mode. The worst problem is that it tends to save every erroneous typing into the custom dictionary, with no option to ask for confirmation. While the custom words you really need requires a confirmation press on the word. Often, the custom words you want added to the dictionary are added erroneously, mispelled and cannot be modified or deleted. This is one very messy virtual keyboard.
3. Some regular and important options are restricted. Like the option to hide headers and scroll bars in mobile excel is greyed (unavailable). For no particular reason, other than to cripple the app.
4. Weather tab is buggy and a tremendous resource hog. Disable it and avoid it at all cost. It gobbles up close to 10Mb of ram, and makes the Sense unstable.
5. HTC Messaging is extremely slow. Cannot effective handle more than a few hundred messages.
6. Editing contacts is a mess. Copy and paste is disabled in many of the fields. Editing contacts will often freeze up the phone for a long time. Sometimes reaching several minutes. (Don't reset the phone no matter how long it takes, it will come around. It's just extremely slow and inefficient.)

I once emailed them about "wrong missed-phone appearing on the Lock Screen", you know what was their reply? (actually, you can guess)
pls HARD-RESET! .
Wow, so simple?
Hard-reset won't be the solution, bc, I have had hard-reset more than once, the problem still can not be solved.
Hopefully, HTC will soon issue some kind of patch for this.
Best regards

It won't work. HTC tech guys are so lazy and do not know how to solve problems. They always go for quick fix that won't work at all. Only to pretend they know what to tell you.
Some of the quick answers they usually go for are:
1. Go to service center for replacement (even if it's just a small software bug)
2. Hard reset (without even understanding why)
3. Soft reset
All these quick answers cannot solve any problems.

2)Problem with in-call volume. After phone restarting, we have to push the side button during a call in order to increase the volume, because the initial level is approximately 40%.

Unfortunately, they almost never read your complaints. All they do is to issue standard pre-composed responses. Which will not contain any answers to your questions. This is their method. Of all the complaints i've written to them, none were ever answered.
SMS tab doesn't show flipping pages. Just simple text in a black background. The only effects you get is the twisting of the text when being swiped away. I think only big brother HD2 gets the flipping page effect for SMS.

Good luck on that. In our country, the HTC "hotline" is permanently connected to a fax machine. The only response you ever get is fax tone. Nobody answers the call.

This is something that can benefit ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices

I have been trying to work on something that will enable some sort of Haptic feed back on my XV6800. The Haptic feed back is a feature that enables vibration to the screen when you press on the screen. Such as the Voyager.
I dont intend to try and make this just to work with the XV6800 but for ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices and if it can others too.
There is a feature on my phone and on many others that allows our phones to play a sound when the screen is taped. I thought of an idea of why not replace the sound with vibration?
There is already a CAB out there that changes the dial tone into a vibration feedback ( when you press the dial buttons ) but it doesnt do much for the rest of the applications or screen.
So far I have been working on this for a couple of days but havent had much time to put much effort into it.
I was hoping that some developers / hackers can help out the cause and help develope or create a feature that enables this on ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices.
If I do find a way to do this I'll post my findings here, but any help to make this a reality would be gladly appreciated.
I was just reading about this very thing HERE: http://www.immersion.com/vt/haptics-for-mobile.php
I was wondering if somebody was going to give it a try. Good luck with it, BOO
it has already been done, and someone posted it up on these forums a while ago, probably buried extremely deeply by now... i forgot the name but i just know it's out there and although it worked, i quickly worried about battery life/hardware issues, so i uninstalled. i'll try to find it for you

Thank you. I am hoping that we can get this done.
I mean we are constantly trying to make our touch screen devices finger friendly. We enlarge buttons, the creation of Touch FLO and the Cube, enlarging menus and so on.
My theory is why not combine all these I deas with Haptic feedback and make it even more finger friendly and try to limit the use of the stylus. If made possible this would be able to work on any HTC Touch screen device or any WM Touch screen device out there.
This would also help users that have a hard time inputing anything into their phone. For example, some one trying to make a text message through t9 or even less then that just pressing on the screen to access a short cut with out having to pound their touch screen until it inputs that they are trying to press. This would help with that because it will acknowledge the input that was made.
Just an Idea

If this has been made possible for the entire touch screen and all applications including the standard OS please inform me of this find. I would gladly appreciate it.
yeah it was an application that ran in the background (maybe as a service, i don't remember), but every single tap created a vibrate feedback. argh i just looked around for it and i have no idea where to find it. it was in some thread, someone's reply had the app attached to it. something about how he knew someone who was working on it, and waited for that person's permission to post the app here on xda-dev. sigh.

Thanks this is a good find.
Ill see if i can make it available using another method. Because they reported that it worked on every other tap of the screen and that it runs the battery down faster too.
What I might try to do is have mine work but have the option to disable it ( like the way you do when you disable screen tap sounds) to save battery power.

True like u said, i've tried it 2, but it do not respond to every fingertouch, if u can figur a way for an app that will respond 2 every touch even the small ones (where u don'nt need 2 hold for a sek before it regonise and verb.).. that will be really great

So far I have planned some steps on ways to do it through the registry but it is not perfect. I am not an expert programmer but I can give it a shot, but it might take a while since I am not as great as the experts here in XDA.
But I'll do what I can. If I do find a solution I will post it here, but any help to make this project possible would be great.
I would be happy if my phone would just vibrate on keyboard input.
I am running this older vibro cab. Works very well however...
The vibration lasts aslong as your finger has contact on the screen. It would be better if it just gave a quick blip of vibro each touch maybe?
When you slide a cube etc it virbos the whole movement.

Do you happen to have the CAB with you? Maybe I can find a way to change the effect this program does when you press the screen and lower the vibration feed back.
If I can do that then I can maybe create some registry settings to make the same effect but just replacing the sound that is emulated when you tap the screen. That way you can disable it or enable it when you want it. ( In case you need to save battery or something )
The length of the vibration should be shorter, other than that it's a really good tool.
wow i must be stupid. i just posted a thread about this yesterday. anyway, it'd be cool if we could figure out a way to just incorporate it into the registry, probly wouldn't use as much battary and stuff then.
This has been done already on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354890&page=2. On the second page, Kpyto posted a download link for it. I haven't tested it yet though so I can't tell you how well it works.
hows this coming along?
I tried the VOA program mentioned above, but i don't really like it - it's simply annoying by vibrating all the time when scrolling trough lists, or attempting to bring up a tap-and-hold context menu. Not to mention additional battery drain caused by the motor running for such long periods of time.
For me, much better screen tap confirmation is a very short vibra pulse - i often use Vibrate(50) as a confirmation in my mortscripts. That's only 50 milliseconds, but it' enough to be clearly felt, and since the motor is powered only for such short time, it causes almost no additional battery drain. I'd really love to see an application creating such confirmation instead of the screen tap sound.
I'd just like it to have customizable vibration time - since the minimal time needed to make vibration even noticeable can probably vary from device to device, and play nice with fTouchFlo - since both capture touchscreen events there are probably possible conflicts.
Good luck with the development. I hope you'll be able to realize this great idea

PhonEx iconsoft phone extender (freezes phone)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2874969
thread in HTC Diamond subforum.
Tried this one on my Xperia and well,
when i get incoming call and press answer key, it starts transmitting my voice faster then original Xperia phone program,
but it has no feature to fast search for contacts by typing numbers in.
And it freezes my phone, when i have Phonex open (when i search for contacts or other) and i try to call someone, the call goes through, but instantly freezes my phone, so i have to take battery out.
Problem might be that i haven't uninstalled the original phone program, but i don't know how to do that.
I started to wonder, what program is the FASTEST for answering incomming calls ? Any ideas?
Btw, i'm new in this forum, so HEY!
I have Xperia and i want to get the most out of it.
I had HTC Diamond but didn't like it, so i returned it after 6 days of using it.

& when it starts the first time to be loaded in memory, I have a crappy screen
Who has also these issues, otherwise, it is a really beautifull application, if soemone has a workaround for my issues, I will buy a license I think.... I already reported these issues to IconSoft

Ouf, I fill more confident to know that I am not the only one guy having this issue
By the way, I hope that IconSoft will fix quickly these two bugs & that you have also reported this issue. More they will receive feedbacks on this issue, more they will be able to classify the urgency level of fixing it. For sure, if they fix these two issues, I feel this product as the next winner apps on WinMo....
I also have the same problem with my HTC Touch Pro (Rapheal) with Phonex 1.2 when pressing the phone button. Got it to work temporarily but turning on inesofts dialer then OFF then going back into phonex settings and saving, but its speractic. still hangs.. Great new features in 1.2 but this hanging issue is getting on my nerves.. They just need to work on these two issue ALONE and not try to add more features and release a rev with these fixes.
I am using it for a long time and very impressed of quick and smooth work, very useful application!
In my experience, the Touch HD Blackstone Dialer (here is a lot faster than the Xperia dialer although you have to slide to answer.
Haven't tried any other dialers.
FYI: I had decided to hard reset to see if Phonex 1.2 would exhibit the same behavior, it did not. THen I restored from sprite backup and began uninstalling apps and or disabling them, Today I discovered after disabling memaid (DinarSoft) service / auto start that implimented its speed enhancements for memory on reboot low and behold PhoneX 1.2 Did NOT Hang any more..
I have not tried rebooting again to be sure it stayed stable, but thought I'd mention it..
Also I UNinstalled Mortscript and related scripts I had running.
Would be interesting to see those of you who do have the problem were running these or similar applications and if disabling them resolved the problem.
Good Luck..
High CPU usage
HI,
I have another problem with the 1.2 release on my Xperia. After installing 1.2 my battery drains much faster. After a look in MemMaid I see that PhonEx.exe is between 3,5-9% CPU usage 90% of the times I check.
I have talked to Iconsoft and the are aware of the problem om some devices and it will be fixed in next release.
Next release (1.3) is scheduled for release within 1-2 weeks which is good news. They also mentioned that some new features will be implemented, like "Slide to unlock" in the caller ID screen, jippi
id agree with xperian above , the hd dialler is a better alternative.
as is the yota dialler (which unfortunately doesnt have slide to answer)
i tried this app and didnt like it, i also dont like their cheap and nasty attempt at marketing by encouraging users to spam forums

Answering calls delay

There is a 2 sec delay between hitting the "ANSWER" key and getting/starting to send my voice to caller.
It's annoying that i have to wait about 2 seckonds till i can say HEY.
What program can i use to remove this annoying bug
or can i just use other kind of phone software?
(i used phonex and it was faster, delay was about 0,5 sec)
By default, there's a 3 sec delay between hitting the END key and dropping the call,
that can be adjusted by advanced configuration tool. set mine to 0 sec.

h2kk, do you happen to have any idea whats the "keyboard layout" which is default: custom ? Is it the onscreen or hardware keyboard?
Seems like no one cares about the MOST IMPORTANT feature: PHONE
Beleive it or not, lots of people use X1 to make and receive calls,
and if that feature is buggy, then, i'd rather have that fixed, than use touch flow from htc hd.
Or is there a thread somewhere and i just don't seem to find it?

Have you tried searching rather than expect someone to do your work for you.
Ive just typed "call delay after answer" into the search and come up with this lot.
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...nswer&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
There's a lot of discussion over this on loads of different phones, some people believe it's the processor struggling, (too many progs running etc) but I'd hope not with a device this quick,
I haven't had this happen to me yet, touch wood etc...
others seem to think it's a variety of things, you could try this.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone]
"CallProgressIdleTimeout"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\PhoneExtendS etting]
"EndCallTime"=dword:00000000

Should the "CallProgressIdleTimeout" value be predefined in the registry? Because for me it wasn't there. I created an object an set it to "0000" but it didn't help anything. I still have approximately 1,5 seconds delay after hitting the answer-button before the call gets connected.

nah dont use that one, it's for the delay in the phone ringing, but will mess a few things up soundwise on the X1 I think.

I actually searched and didn't find a solution.
Tried google again but all the results lead nowhere.
Also i have allready changed my registry (don't have the callprogressidletimeout though)
Rahul3000
This fix only makes the phone ring instantly, that's not our problem here.
I'll say it again. The reason why i started this thread is:
When i used Phonex software, then answering calls was a lot faster
I'm willing to uninstall the default dialer/phone application (still don't know how to do that)
and use phonex or any other fast piece of software. (phonex freezes my phone)

What phone skin/dialer are you using ? the stock SE one?
you can revert to the default WM one by changing this key.
hklm/security/phone/skin/enabled to 0 and reboot.
try that, if it changes things then it might be worth changing the caches as the both the manilla (tf3d) and SE dialler take up a fair bit of memory, what do you have those set at?
I'm quite interested in what's causing it, as I don't have this problem on my phone
Phonex looks quite nice,

I hate the HD too!!! (Never thought I'd say that)

I miss my Trinity.
Been using HTC since they weren't branding themselves. My first phone was the Space Needle (ATT Pocket PC). I loved it. Did so much with it. Later flashed it, was very nice.
Then I moved on to the I-Mate Jam. Smaller, sleeker, also fun.
Then I got the Trinity P3600. This is absolutely the best phone there is in my opinion. It's small, light, has GPS, a decent camera, video call, mini SD slot.
I got more from my P3600 and a 2gb card than the HD has given me.
Yes, the HD has more memory, huge screen, better camera (although annoying, and who REALLY uses the camera on their phone for 'real' pictures), ..... wait, what more? For me, nothing.
I miss my d-pad. Try using the HD to go to Call History and view the contact details of the third caller down. You can't! No Way to move down. If you touch the contact, it calls him!!
Try finding a contact with the last name that begins with 'M' when you have 100+ contacts who begin with 'M' and the one you want is in the middle of the list. Oh, "just start typing part of the name" you might say. I DON'T WANT TO!! I'm using one hand. The only way is 'flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking'.
You've heard of "tennis elbow", now there's "flick thumb". What a pain!
And the soft touch buttons. USELESS!!!! First of all, forget the third one, the 'back arrow'. Does anyone use it? I don't. USELESS.
Now, try answering a call while the HD it in it's protective sleeve. While you're trying to slide the damn thing out, you almost inevidibly "answer" or "ignore" by accidentally pressing one of the soft buttons!! USELESS!
Now try putting the HD in your pocket or in the center console in your car. You will soon start hearing.....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip....... That's the soft keys being pressed accidentally.......Now look at the phone, it's frozen with just a start button.
..and and and......
I can go on, but this phone is hard to handle, very "touchy" and just a general PAIN IN THE A$$ to use, not to mention expensive as H3LL!!!
Glad I never sold my P3600. Will be going back to my old tried and true friend today. I flashed my Trinity to WM6.1, and it's GREAT!!!
Hope I can find a sucker to buy the HD before everyone starts realizing it sucks.
Thanks for listening!

haha, u made me laugh
well, firstly, were u blind when u were buying HD? I always check how device looks first, and you? Didn't u see it doesn't has a Dpad?
secondly, all your other problems are that you don't know what's a LOCK DEVICE function is...
in a conclusion, learn how to lock the device first, then you can talk about it
I miss my Trinity.
You still have it, so how can you miss it??
I miss my d-pad. Try using the HD to go to Call History and view the contact details of the third caller down. You can't! No Way to move down. If you touch the contact, it calls him!!
Working fine here.....
Try finding a contact with the last name that begins with 'M' when you have 100+ contacts who begin with 'M' and the one you want is in the middle of the list. Oh, "just start typing part of the name" you might say. I DON'T WANT TO!! I'm using one hand. The only way is 'flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking' 'flicking''flicking''flicking''flicking'.
You've heard of "tennis elbow", now there's "flick thumb". What a pain!
Don´t quite understand the problem.....
And the soft touch buttons. USELESS!!!! First of all, forget the third one, the 'back arrow'. Does anyone use it? I don't. USELESS.
Use AEButton Plus and assign any functions you like....
Now, try answering a call while the HD it in it's protective sleeve. While you're trying to slide the damn thing out, you almost inevidibly "answer" or "ignore" by accidentally pressing one of the soft buttons!! USELESS!
Agreed.....that´s why I never used the pouch...
Now try putting the HD in your pocket or in the center console in your car. You will soon start hearing.....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip....... That's the soft keys being pressed accidentally.......Now look at the phone, it's frozen with just a start button.
Can´t duplicate....
The Bug is not the device but rather the User...in this case
I was very concerned when I saw this thread as I will finally get my HD tomorrow. All the complaints made seem to be a user problem, I was able to do everything he couldn't do on my Diamond just using the screen, so I assume that that would be exactly the same as the HD.
I think everyone on these forums understands that most WM phones aren't the best out of the box but with tweaking the phones are made into great devices that are really interesting and are never boring because you can change so much.
If you want a device that just works with minimal functions so you don't get upset or have brain overload, the iphone is a great peace of hardware but WM has so much more to offer if you are willing to tweak and play around abit.
I think instead of posting "I hate the HD", it would be more appropriate to post.... "I need some help with some functions" and with the wealth of knowledge here you will get some answers very quick and not give people like me heart attacks reading your misleading posts.

i wouldnt say iphone was a great piece of hardware, but it is miles better for usability...
my hd is a hardware investment till the chaps on this forum make it awesome
All the other points has been covered... So:

-> Flick
-> Basically, i never used the contacts list . Always use the dial key, bring up the keypad, and use smart dialing - much much faster. and yes, its 1 hand operation. You probably not aware of this obvious function? E.g. if you want to call John, type in your keypad 5606 . In the contacts list, There's a alphabet along the screen... touch letter M and it brings u to the M part of your contacts list... i dont think any of us have less than 100 contacts in our phone .
All these are purely your problem for not learning how to use it. not the phone's problem.
The Touch HD surely has flaws, like any other phone, but all of your problems can be avoid by learning how to use it.
Hey, for 100 usd I will be the sucker who buys it..
I could go line by line and combat everything this member says is "wrong" with the HD but I wont. All i can say is i am just not hving the problems he describes None of them with maybe the exception of I simply just dont use the camera. I use my real camera for pic taking

Yes, I liked my PALM III very much but i came over it. Yes I understand "I DON'T WANT TO!!"
Not once you had a good point. Not once! You should have found one by accident.
The one thing I miss is the roller-wheel of my hermes. But it sounds like I could remap the volume rocker to do something similar, anyone tried this?
I've never used a full touch screen phone before, so like a cautious person I went in to the Orange shop and asked for a demo, which they were happy to give, and realised it wasn't all that daunting. A number of the annoyances with it so far are thanks to the not-so-touch-friendly Winmo 6.1, when someone cracks Android for this thing (apparently the Touch HD will be the new T-Mobile G2 according to the rumour mill) I'll be more than happy to try it out, plus the modding community will fix it up with their godlike skills, I'm just glad I found these forums!
Objective view, please...
I think most people here did not get the points raised here or have not been objective in their response (it is obvious they are product of their ne gadget); the phone as Windows Mobile is not per se user-friendly. The interface incorporated by HTC is not perfect. The hardware is therefore inadequate since it cannot be complemented by a good piece of software .
HTC has effectively delivered this phone in the same manner as it has done with other previouus devices (albeit a modified soft keyboard) with keypad. Even the TF3D for a WVGA screen, there is not difference to VGA devices, only larger icon and the Stock tab!
Excessive tweaking of the device is not always a good solution as it impacts other areas of the device.
Therefore stating all this is down to user is a best an over statement.
With all this feedback I wonder how HTC development team will feel! I for one do not complaint for the issues raised but admit they are serious problem. I can recall not being able to open the battery cover and having to refer to the manual, still it will not open. Only after several attempts the process became easier.
The iPhone is not always a valid alterative either, since many people wish to have applications that are not designed for this platform, such as any device car navigation program. This is particularly true in this case, as the poster clearly stated his background!
Personally, I must say my main decision for purchasing the BlackStone was merely for the screen size, having used the Universal for over year and then going down to Polaris (screen size wise), and with no sign of the Omni, I was “forced” again to a half solution. Any other aspect of the device was secondary in importance…
Ha, ha, ha...
Ha, ha, ha... thanx for the laugh, angry man
All new gadgets takes some getting use to... The HD i no exeption, especially when you cant use the software your used to because of the screen.
I love my HD though..

I've been quite concerned about HD since I ordered it, and then once I got it (overpriced on HTC distribution orders to retail stores), etc. And finally with many "small" issues I wrote in other threads.
So I fully understand the feelings of angry users.
Has anybody noticed we, (concernerd users) are greatly defined by our previous machine?
It has come to my attention through this and other forums, that ex-TRINITY users are prone to be "in love" with it and not very pleased with HD.
I think this is really somthing to be investigated.
Finally, toying around in a phone store with the machine (if you have had the chance) is not enough to put all the blame in the "unconscious" buyer, it's simply not fair in todays e-shopping.
HTC did a very poor job putting the HD in the market for Christmas time, hope it will get fixed over the time, but i'm still very upset with HTC way of launching new devices.
I won't address all the issues, because other people already have, and because it really just sounds like the problem is more with what YOU like and don't like - and not with the phone. Either you are used to a certain way and you don't really want to change or you are not aware of how you can do things differently to better use the phone. In any case, I do respect your opinion and you have every right to express those thoughts here. Okay, so here are a couple of thoughts from my side.

The camera is descent - not excellent - but descent. The lack of flash is a known downfall. However, keep in mind that no phone out there will replace the quality of an actual camera. The camera feature on the phone is an extra commodity for those moments when you don't want to take a real camera with you or for those good times, when you are hanging out with friends and you don't need to shoot the greatest quality pictures. No camera phone is meant to be used as your main camera for vacation shots etc.

Maybe you don't understand how this feature works. On my HD, if I tap once on a number in the call history list, it DOES NOT call right away, but instead it brings up the call history for that caller alone. Then:
If the caller is in my contacts list, I see the name at the top and possibly a picture (if I added one). Below this, it shows me the call history.
If I tap on the name/picture, it pulls up a list of numbers and email addresses for that contact. If I once again tap on the name/picture, it brings me to that listing so I can edit the contact's information. I can always cancel by pressing menu at the bottom.
If I tap on a given missed call itself, it will call that number. The nice thing is that if that person called me once from their home and another time from their mobile, I can see that here and I can choose which number to call back.
If the caller is NOT in my contacts list, then I simply see "unknown" at the top and then the number that called below that (provided that person does not have their number blocked from callerID). If I tap on the number, it will call that person. If I tap on "unknown", I will eventually end up on my contacts list, where I can assign that number to a contact or I can create a new contact with that number.
I do have to admit, that it has happened a few times, that a contact calls me and in the call history list, I only see the number as if it were an unknown person. In that case, I have assigned that number to the contact and it overrides the number I already had. I don't know why that is. Maybe because some numbers I have entered as 0177-555-5555 and others as +491775555555 (in Germany).
Anyone know if that makes a difference? It seems that sometimes it does and other times it doesn't.

Huh?? Flicking is A LOT faster than pressing a D-pad arrow 80 times to get to your contact. You could also press the M or N on the alphabest list on the right. That way, you'll either see the beginning of the M's or the end of the M's and you can flick from there. Seriously - flicking goes really fast. And typing the first two letters into the name box is NOT that bad. You see, the possibilities here are endless!
Now try putting the HD in your pocket or in the center console in your car. You will soon start hearing.....blip-blip-blip-blip-blip....... That's the soft keys being pressed accidentally.......Now look at the phone, it's frozen with just a start button.

A simple press of the power button locks your phone - and guess what..... no more blip-blip-blip-blip-blip.
Now simply press the power button again and you can blip-blip-blip all you want.
So, there now - you must certainly LOVE your HD now, right?

What are the main things that annoy you about the X1?

Im making this thread in the hope that we can make a joint list and things can get crossed off-
edit: i will add anything that may be possible to be corrected by software fixes. whilst things like " you have to open the case to get the sd card/soft reset are very valid, there is nothing we can do im afraid!!!
Here are a list of the main things that really annoy me:
1) It takes ages to open up the SMS inbox/missed calls, sometimes a few seconds
2) there is a delay between someone calling you and your phone ringing
3) Videos are very jerky and not smooth unless i convert them and all that stuff which i shouldnt need to. i assume this is because we cant make use of the hardware acceleration?
4) no good games- emulators dont work.
5) Ring tone too weak
6) vibrate too weak
7) when im on the phone and i get someone else on call waiting, the party i am speaking to cant hear what im saying
8) The close / ok button on the top right are way too small.
9) no official flash support for youtube...
10) opera keeps on crashing
8) When using the keyboard, just a small nudge on top of the screen turns it into portrait mode, annoying when sending a text.
9) The close / ok button on the top right are way too small.
10) Have to open the case to remove the SD-card
11) Lack of updates, news, panels, etc. from Sony Ericsson... not a single screenshot, news or anything since release
12) Hidden softreset button
") no good games- emulators dont work."
with wvga fix i have gotten all games i used on my old himalaya to work just fine
with x1 but of cause if you dont cound wvga fix
"10) Have to open the case to remove the SD-card"
yeah thats a problem
"other general responsive and delay issues"
seem to be a general windows mobile issue
at least i had them with all wm devices i had
13) no official flash support for youtube...
I don't think the removal of the back is a 'problem' but surely a fraking INCONVENIENCE.
I agree with all those points so far and could certainly list even more but unless this will become a 'rant post', makes no sense for me to post this. But if one looks at all the posts in here and all those problems that are posted, one will find that there is very much that is wrong with this X1.

true, but ive experienced higher volume on different ROMs. so there probale is a way to change that
8) The close / ok button on the top right are way too small.
just use the "End Call" or OK button from your phone (lower right hard keys)

But ""developers" forum and complaint no "offical" youtube support" is actually right,
as well why SE oficially didn't install bloody FlashLite 3.1 on it (as well as HTC's have it).

I bet he was joking!
Nobody's perfect, no phone is perfect, but my SEX1 is the BEST OVERALL PHONE AROUND TO DATE
Please beware: MOST of your complaints are related to windows mobile and NOT the phone itself.
KEEP IN MIND: "windows" UI was designed 10 YEARS AGO for slow, low-mem PDAs with 320x240 screens. TEN YEARS later we are still using the same archaic obsolete UI (eg. white, simple background, tiny soft-keyboard, 2-options-on-each-tab menus for setting, no thumb-driven UI...). WM UI is a dinosaur and that's why HTC develped TouchFlo3D as a "mask" for windows´s ugliness and user-unfriendlyness, BUT the widespread windows platform lets many people develop apps, innovations, tweaks etc and that´s what this is all about
If I want to compaint, well, I can allways find something about any phone to complaint about...
Still want my 2 cents??
The lack of a REAL dedicated VOICE-REC button is killing me,
but that's only me, my usage, my world, my way...
Still remember the time when I was counting the day until SE release an "official upgrade" for their firmware for my P900 on their website. What a completely joke!
I'm not sure why you even bothered mentioning Nokia's support for their handsets, if you have a Win Mo device you are having access to the best support in the world.
Have a look around, upgrade your ROM because the stock ROM, be it your operator's or HTC's is crap, then you wouldn't have had the performance issues in the first place.
The X1 is easily the most stable device I ever had, and had owned quite a fair amount of XDAs in the past years, starting with O2 XDA
