no fascinate for me for a while - Fascinate General

vzw will only upgrade my primary line until end of november.
why would i buy one now, and then one later?
family plan lines do not qualify for early upgrades as they only pay 9.99 a month for access, the rest of the cost is credited to the main line.
meh, maybe by then i will want something else, oh well

Do you have any other lines on your plan that are eligible for upgrade?
My Fascinate is on my primary line, which isn't up for New Every Two for six more months. I have another line that had an available upgrade that I used to get it. It was really easy.

oh i can get 1 for the primary line, its elgible, but my secondary line isnt.
im not gonna spend 199 now then 199 again later, not with a bogo
and the whole reason im upgrading is to get the wife a smartphone.
basically vzw doesnt want my money for 2 more months, go figure

I was in the same situation as you with only one upgrade available on a family plan. I decided to add a line to get the BOGO phone for my wife. We needed to add a line later anyway for our son, so it was a little early, but I think it was worth it to get the free phone.

Even if it does come out, you know Verizon is almost always last to the dance right? Unless it's a Verizon only exclusive phone, which the Galaxy S2 won't be. Verizon always takes so long validating and testing the phones and adding their bloatware to the phone that every other carrier has had the phone for months before Verizon releases their version.
OTH, I hear that there will be a Verizon version of the HTC Evo coming in December.

Buy One Get One Free: AT&T and T-Mobile

My wife went from the Iphone 3G to the Focus about 2 or so weeks back.... a few days after the new windows phones were released. I myself have a tilt 2 but was ready for an upgrade. We went in to look at the new phones and at that time they didnt know about the BOGO offer that was coming up for Black friday (and presumably running through out the holidays). She went ahead and got her phone. Today we went in and asked if we could still get the free phone. As she was still in the 30 day grace period we figured it wouldn't be an issue. Sure enough.... a quick call to the manager and I had the phone in my hand. The only extra I paid for was the Zag Shield.
I'm not sure WHAT had to be done to get it. Whether you needed to add another line etc but since we already had 4 lines on our family plan we had decided to add my mom on for her Christmas. We told him we wanted to add a new line as well although he didnt actually tie the new Focus to that new line, and it didnt get tied to my number yet either. I'm not sure but I do think you need to start a new line (which luckily enough we already planned on doing) to get the BOBO deal with AT&T. He seemed to imply I could get it for free too by using my upgrade status which was also open from the original purchase of the Fuze 2 years ago.
I figure if in the new year they release some newer cooler phones (ie one with the same size screen but has a keyboard) I'll use my upgrade for that and sell the Focus off.
So anyone who did get their focus (or any other windows phone for that matter) early and wants to go in to get their free phone go and and schmooze and you'll be walking out with the second phone in your hand!
Good Luck!

confirmed by an att rep.... if youre within the 30 day period and are eligible or you add a line, they will restock your phone and resell it to you and you get the new one... just a restock fee, but well worth the free phone.... did mine this eve, took 10 min to get it done... good deal on a solid set of phones...
Good for you guys!!
I'm stuck so no deals for me since I'm not in the upgrade timeframe. Unless someone wants to sell thier free Focus for a nice holiday discount?
I had bought 2 focuses (foci?) at 2 seperate ATT stores about a week apart from each other. I went to one store and got the money credited back to my credit card. I then received a call from the second store and they told me they would credit the account the amount of one of the phones since they noticed I had bought 2 phones within a week of each other.
If someone wants to sell the one he got for free at a fair price, please let me know

That's fairly similar as to how I got my fuze... they had some promo going on and they had a programming glitch where you could put the coupon on multiple times... which I did. I got that phone for free. A year later when I got my tilt 2 my wife got it for 100 dollars upfront and then AT&T sent me a $50.00 visa gift card, so really the phone was 50 dollars. HTC at the time had this promo where they would accept ANY smart phone trade in when you bought a tilt 2 and they'd pay you 100 dollars. I sent in my HTC Vouge and they gave me 100 dollars... so really I got paid 50 dollars for getting a new phone.
Then once this promo came along, well suffice to say my wife just rolled her eyes... yet another free phone
Does this only work if you purchased it at a real AT&T store? I bought my focus at a 'CellularWorld' about 15 days ago.

Correct. As far as I understand. You could try returning your Focus and re-purchasing at your local AT&T?
Nobody interested in selling your second Focus?

I am just guessing that you cant get another one for free if you purchased it off contract...IS it only with a new line or contract to get the free phone?
I've contacted AT&T about this. You MUST get a new line OR upgrade an existing line that is eligible for upgrade. Since I want to give the free phone to my dad, they did say 2 things that kept my interest though:
they can be flexible on 'eligibility'
I can transfer the phone to my dad's account, as long as he's eligible and an existing AT&T subscriber
One other thing - gotta do it within the 30 day grace period.
How much each store follows these rules, of course, would depend on the store

Correct. Two-year contract and data plan are required on both lines. AT&T makes minimum $600 ($15 data + $10 add a line = $25/mo minimum) over two year period off you per phone. That's how they can afford to give you one for free.
I'm planning to upgrade my phone n get me a Focus, since it's BOGO deal right now. I'm wondering if this plan will work or not. Currently Im in a family plan and my dad is able to upgrade his phone too and planing to give the 2nd phone to him. however, since he's a tech noob im going to go head take the phone, but cancel his data plan so he can use his old phone. Then just sell the 2nd phone. do you think AT&T will allow me to do this, since my dad would not use the Focus.
My sister had done this before, she got an iPhone n hate it. So she use her old phone, canceled the data plan and sell her iphone on eBay.

I didn't even have to go through that much hassle. I told them I'd bought the first one in the last 30 days and they gave me a second one for free. They did charge an $18 upgrade fee on the line I upgraded but they didn't make me go through any "resell" or "restock" ordeal. They just put in a promo code for it and gave it to me.
Amazon is selling the phones for $.01 with a 2 yr plan.
For 2 qualified plans, that's a whopping $.02. Just a tad better than AT&T's BOGO deal.

Take a look at the fine print for things like the early termination fee. Don't fool yourself into thinking that Amazon is only making $.01 on the phone.
yep not only do you get dinged with an early termination fee from ATT but one from Amazon as well... I think Amazon's is bigger then ATT's actually. Not to mention I believe you only get that on new lines.... not ones you are adding onto an existing family plan. I could be wrong here.

Sprint offering early upgrades to some customers

Itching for a new Sprint handset, but your upgrade date is still a ways off? You might be in luck, as a newly-leaked Sprint document has shown that the carrier is offering some customers an early upgrade. According to the doc sent to SprintFeed, there's a silent promotion running now through December 31st that'll allow some Premier customers to upgrade early to any CDMA handset in the Now Network's lineup, including the iPhone. The deal is said to be only available at corporate-owned stores, and before earning the upgrade you'll need to have your account reviewed by a sales representative for specific promo codes.
Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, especially considering that Sprint Premier is going the way of the dinosaur and most of the benefits of program are ending once the year is up. If you'd like to see if you're eligible for an early upgrade, mosey on down to your local (corporate!) Sprint store and ask your friendly rep to look into the promo. Just don't forget to come back and let us know how it went when you're done, k?

Unless they want to get you into a new phone now, then you'll have to pay more for the new phone that comes out next year that you should have waited for, but can't pass up. Sprint knows how your mind works.

Not totally true. I went to the Sprint Store today. I have 3 lines on my plan. Two of them are due to upgrade in March. The 3rd line is due in October 2012. They offered me an upgrade on the Oct. phone because it is the primary line. Don't know if I will cash in, but the offer seems legit. I have been a customer for over 10 years. Maybe that is a reason.

Not true! I'm on a family plan with 4 other phones and I was able to upgrade my dad's phone today even though his upgrade isnt coming until next august. They gave us the early upgrade because we are premier members and he is the primary line. The sprint rep told me they just heard about the deal yesterday, and it does indeed go until the 31st.
I can confirm this is real. But the stores i called and went to are all asking for you to either upgrade your plan or buy accessories to do it.
Anyone else running into this?

No not renew but upgrade. curently have $129 and they wanted me to upgrade the plan to $149 plan.
Well got some crazy news!!!! i took advantage of the early upgrade and found a store that did not make me upgrade my plan or buy accessories. I think its a store by store discretion type deal with making customers buy accessories and upgrade plans. Also they bought 2 of my evo's for $100 each and all rebates were instant for the phones i got. Sooo i spent A little under $300 and got a 16g iphone 4s for my girl and got the epic touch for me. All and all a great deal and i'm very happy with my new phone
But i'm a little sad to be leaving the evo 4g section of XDA. Gonna take a break from rooting and enjoy stock for a min then be back flashing and learning the epic touch!! Good bye all my evo compadres

ATT 1 year update

I am just curious if anyone else is getting the option to update after just a year? My understanding is that it is usually closer to 1.5 years for early upgrades and no one else I know on ATT is getting this offer, including others on my plan. I am curious whether other ATT Atrix users were also offered a 1 year update and whether they are going to take it and what they are going to update to?
Hopefully! I am nearly a year in...
however I wonder what phone I should go for - now JokerSax11 has the Atrix running CM9 (not without issues mind) it seems a shame to abandon it now.
CM9 really does prove the Atrix an excellent hardware platform.
M
I noticed the same thing. I figured it was because I was with AT&T for over 4 years now.
I was considering pulling the plug on the SGS II but would rather have the unlocked version.
That is normal for any plan that gets billed for more than $99 a month. I'm assuming you are the "primary" line on your account, correct? If so, then what happens is your line, specifically, is billed the full monthly (for example, I have the 700 minute family plan so my line is billed $60 while the others are $10 per month). Taking that into account, you have messaging, which also gets billed to the primary line, and then there is your data. When it's all said and done it should put your line over the $99 threshold. That's why you are getting the "yearly" eligibility and the other lines do not. I hope that makes sense.
EDIT: I had become curious of this so I decided to look into my situation and I have realized that there is a discrepancy in the details. What I had mentioned above was true for AT&T for quite some time (I know this because I updated annually) but after going through my contract I realized that I do not have this option anymore. So, either they had changed their policy or I'm getting duped somehow. With that said, either you're getting a "deal" or I need to make a call to CS and figure out why my upgrade options have changed. BRB

This makes sense to me; I'm the primary line on my account (with 4 other lines as a FamilyTalk Plan) and I noticed some time ago that I've been eligible for upgrades much sooner than the other lines on my account. I assumed it was because I have been a customer for almost 7 years, while the other lines are less than 3 years apiece.
With all that said, yeah, I've got an upgrade coming up next month, just short of a year from when I got my Atrix.
Our main line, (5 lines on the account) gives an upgrade every 12 months. Also, they will give you an upgrade 30 days early if you go into the store and ask for it. They can't go any earlier than 30 days though.

I recently noticed the same. I should be eligible this May, but the system says Dec. I'd asked when I was in the store recently and they claimed the policy has recently changed. I take what the in-store reps say with a grain of salt and had planned on calling into AT&T to ask them about it. I just haven't done that yet.
OK that really sucks if it has changed like Sprint used to do something similar but they stopped recently

Reading this topic made me wonder, So I just logged into my AT&T account to see if my one year upgrade was available for next month (March). Lo and behold not only is the deal still on. But it is offering the upgrade to me a month early. Not gonna bite as I don't see anything that looks any better than my Atrix 4g. Maybe something more worthy of a look will be offered soon. Honestly tho. I am not sure that I even need a different phone anytime soon anyway. If I am gonna play on a mobile device I will just grab my Iconia a500. About the only thing that I use the phone for other than calls anymore is tethering. Heck, I could probably get by with a Backflip or maybe even an old Aria...
Why not upgrade? Get an iphone 4s, and flip it quick?

Got a update due in March... really wanna wait out for SGS III, which "should" be out around May, but that's probably gonna be some stupid overseas release and won't he a US/ATT version until the end if the year like last year with the SGS II... if that turns out to be the case, ill probably just grab the SGS II skyrocket HD, hopefully coming out within the next month or two.

after you upgrade, you can change the primary line to upgrade your other lines earlier. I've done this with all my lines, you can usually see the change after one cycle of changing your primary line.

You are eligible for an exception upgrade after 6 mos are completed in your contract ... Its 250+ the 2 year price or if its a refurb phone you get the refurb price. Upgrades happen between 14-24 months it all depends on your ltv and how much you pay .... If you have any and i mean any non pay suspends or any feature/mrc changes in the last 3 months your eligibility will change... Sometimes for the better / sometimes for the worse.

T-Mobile Jump! Cancel

Merry Christmas!
Hey guys, I've been thinking about canceling my Jump! service, I just do not see the benefit beside protecting you device. I just want to see who have it, and why you want to keep it. Or those that do not have it and why you didn't bother signing up.
I have it and my carrier insurance actually dropped 2 dollars a month so I figured, why not? I do like it though. Out allows me to continually get new phones. I tend to get board with a phone to a degree after a year or so. For me it's pretty good. You just have to get over the fact if you keep jumping, you'll never really own a phone. Sort of leasing a phone.
Merry Christmas
I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to switch to a new phone every year, so I thought JUMP! makes sense. The insurance and Lookout Premium is a nice addition.
I been paying into jump for me and my wife since it started. Just upgraded both of us 2 weeks ago to two note 4's. In 6 months Samsung will have new phones with Playstation Now. I saw an aluminum billet cut out of a new Samsung phone, kinda curious to see what the final product looks like and how the Playstation Now runs on it. If I like I will wait for unboxing youtube video and maybe I jump.
Sent from my SM-T800 using XDA Premium HD
I use mine for insurance purposes only, I end up buying phones every 4 months or so, so basically the upgrading isn't worth doing for me, plus its a waste money to lease a phone and not pay it off imo.
It all depends and it's all in the numbers. It's a number game. If you have it only for insurance, do keep in mind that there's a deductible. For a high end phone like the Note 4, it's like $175 or something. If you're using it to upgrade, make sure your phones not almost paid off or it won't be worth it lol. Or if you're required to put down a big deposit, jump isn't worth it. Do the math. Crunch the numbers...
Well I have the first JUMP package that was released (grandfathered in). I love it because it lets me upgrade every 6 months. I get bored of devices pretty quick, especially with all of the devices that get released. Best thing to ever happen to a carrier.
Sent from a potato.
I also have the first JUMP package. It's pretty great deal.
If u have jump 1 keep it if you have jump 2 get rid of it. Not worth it for 2 if you swap out phones a lot

Can you please elaborate. I felt the Jump 2 was just an enhanced version of Jump 1 (Jump 2 just allows you to upgrade whenever you want). Jump 1 allows maximum 2 upgrade a year.
I feel the Jump is worth it if you are upgrading your devices every 6 months, based on my rough calculations.

If you are on payment plans you must pay off device by 50% if you wanna jump. With jump 1 it 6 months no matter how much you owe.

Wow, T-Mobile rep explained me Jump 1 way differently, stating that half the device value would still need to be paid, lol. However, from the way you describe it, Jump 1 would have certainly been better in this case. The T-Mo rep also stated that customers can choose between Jump 1 or Jump 2, I call that BS.
Even paying 50% of the device is still worth it (whether you wait one year or 6 months) because every non-Apple device depreciates fast.

I agree. Seems like T-Mobile being a true carrier once again (or were they always; like they give a sh!t).
So, if I was a T-Mobile customer a year ago, and chose Jump 1 then, it would have been worth it.
Once you upgrade with Jump 1, customers are required to continue with Jump 2 or simply remove Jump from their account.
T-Mobile is slowly giving us chills. Lets see what they reveal to us next year; will they stick to their plans for the better? #CoverageMyA$$
I'm really looking forward to a bright future for T-Mobile. Better not be one of those companies that fall bankrupt after a major flop. Do they even have the integrity? Can they sustain their building reputation? Who knows...

This is not true. If this happened to you then some sneaky rep in the store must have switched you. I just upgraded this week. I am still on jump 1. I even called them before I left the store to verify. The ONLY way you lose Jump 1 is by 1) Switching to Jump #2 or 2) Leaving T-Mobile then coming back. Thats it. Also when I log into tmobile it says I can jump NOW. That would not be possible on jump 2
Well, I never said T-Mobile was a good company anyway. Most of their store clerks are unprofessional, arrogant, and ignorant anyway. The other day, a female customer lost all her text messages on the phone as it was erased by the store rep without authorization by her; no backup to be found. T-Mobile should wake up; their Uncarrier move isn't all that great as I once thought. I don't mind the changes between Jump 1 and Jump 2, as I do understand in the corporate world, it all about profits and gain; T-Mobile would have suffered major loss had they adhered to the Jump 1 stands for long.

My phone is my internet. I tether it. To do so and not have an outrageous bill you need two things.
1) Rooted phone
2) Unlimited data
So until another company offers unlimited data? They are the best around imo. They are also the only company I can go from the US to London on and still use my phone. Changing nothing. They are actually one of the best carriers. But if you want to keep paying over 100$ a month stay with one of the other guys... I pay 92 a month INCLUDING my note 4 payment. Unlimited everything including data. Due to T-mobiles high speeds my phone is my home internet.
PS> I have seen more retards at Verizon stores than anywhere. Maybe its just the stores where you live have a crappy regional manager? Ever think of that?
Well, I'm sure I must have went to a well reputable Verizon store then. T-Mobile's phone reps never seem to be updated or clear regarding their own policies, nor do they even understand their latest uncarrier moves. Ask them a question (even if you already know the answer) and you'll get a distorted answer from them. I've been to some T-Mobile stores where the reps were courteous, professional, and knew what they were selling, but the odds for encountering a carrier store like that are low for the most part. Its the tele-representatives I'm referring to. I only switched to T-Mobile due to the value of service I'd be getting, nothing to do with coverage.

You may be able to Jump to a new phone after a year or after the device is half way paid off but you have to trade it in . If you do the math you are losing money 2 ways. A year from now you can sell your phone outright for more than $400 easily . That being said 1 year from now you will have half your device paid off if you are doing the 2 year finance . So that means Tmobile is giving $330 Tops for your phone when you Jump. You can just sell your phone for anything more than $330 ( which is very easy) and put it towards a new device . When I was gonna Jump from my S5 to the note 4 they were only giving me $320 cause that is what I owed on it. I sold it for $425 and paid off the S5 and put the extra $105 towards my Note 4 . Unless you are on the old Jump then it is not worth it cause they pay you less than market value for an easy to sell phone.

Hey guys, I've been thinking about canceling my Jump! service, I just do not see the benefit beside protecting you device. I just want to see who have it, and why you want to keep it. Or those that do not have it and why you didn't bother signing up.

In order to Jump you have to have half your device paid off . If you just bought a Note 4 now then in a year from now you will only owe $330 or so . So Tmobile is gonna give you $330 for a phone you could easily sell a year from now for over $400 . Keep your insurance , dump jump and put the $24 you save in a year for not having it plus the $400+ you can sell your Note 4 for and pay off your device when you want to Jump and put the extra $100 or so you have left towards your new phone. Put it this way even if you only get $350 for your Note 4 ( which would be on the very low end) you would still be coming out ahead. Why trade in an easy to sell device when you can sell it yourself ?No doubt about it that you are getting screwed by TMO when you pay for Jump . If you are on the Old Jump please disregard this message. the old Jump is worth it. Tmobile may still ask you to put a deposit on your new phone when you decide to jump . All jump does is pay off the remaing balance on your phone. Tmobile will still run a credit check when you get a new device.Just do the math and you will see why Jump is a Scam . Numbers don't lie put Big Business does. Anything they can to squeeze a few more dollars out of you a month.
I think its just a matter of convenience and peace of mind now with Jump 2. The fact that you don't need to worry about paying shipping and insurance and seller fees, etc when selling the phone to the second owner.

S7 AT&T Buy One Get One (BOGO) Deal

My girlfriends dad works at an AT&T call center and told me they started doing a BOGO deal Saturday 2/27.
I already did a pre-order at Best Buy…went back Sunday 2/28 and cancelled my order and re-placed with a BOGO. Both phones have to be on AT&T Next. The BOGO covers around $23/month for the 2nd phone and you can get either model for the 2nd phone. Best Buy also told me I’d get the free Gear VR and Micro SD card for both phones…don’t think there’s a better deal out there.
Can't find anything mentioned via google or on ATT site.

I didn't either but I definitely got the BOGO deal at BestBuy and talked to AT&T support on the phone who confirmed the BOGO deal availability. Not sure why they aren't advertising it everywhere.
Still have to pay the first 2-3 months for both phones on AT&T Next but AT&T credits the 2-3 months of payments back for the 2nd BOGO phone and then cover $23-ish per month going forward. You also have to pay the tax upfront for both phones not just 1.
Other mentions of the BOGO deal here. Wonder if you can get two $100 Target gift cards with a BOGO. That would be way better than BestBuy considering MicroSD cards are only $30 each.
I'm reading the fineprint and it doesn't seem the S7 is part of this deal...

I've searched the AT&T website a few times and can't ever find the S7 BOGO details even though I was able to order it.
From your experience have you seen AT&T not show promos like this? I'm amazed AT&T isn't running commercials about this to try and get customers to switch.
Can someone explain this to me, without me having to call AT&T. Was planing on getting the S7 anyway but might as well maybe do this. I know I will have to pay for taxes for both and I think the first 3 months. But It says I have to add a new line..Does that make it cost more monthly? I would like to just give my wife the other S7.
Thanks

As far as I know you have to add a new line. I added a line to my mobile share plan and ported my girlfriend from Verizon.
If you and your wife already have a shared plan and one of you is on month-to-month billing (No 2 year plan or AT&T Next still lingering), maybe you can have AT&T cancel that line and re-add a "new" line with the same phone number so you can get the BOGO. That's the best I got for "cheating" the system lol.
I just switched from vzw to at&t and got the bogo deal on 2 s7s and 2 edges with the unlimited plan for uverse subscribers. Only needed 3,myself, my wife and son, but with the 4th line free and 2 free phones I now get to be the douche who carries 2 phones around because why not, it was free. Wife gets an edge and son gets the s7 and I can play with both with unlimited data. Eat that Verizon!
I just spoke with at&t as I have a pre-order for s7 Edge arriving today for a new line I added. She said there was a BOGO offer between 2/23 and 2/28 (I believe) and my order was on the 26th, so I was eligible for it. However, it's too late now to take advantage of it. Even if I returned the device, there isnt a current BOGO offer on S7/S7E.
Let me know if anyone has different information, but that's what I was just told.

It must have gone past the 28th. I went to Best Buy on the 27th about an hour before they closed and asked them about the deal. They just got the email 15 minutes before I came. They were stunned I knew about it.
I did this today so it is still working, went to best buy and walked out with 2 S7's and VR headsets and everything. The actual AT&T rep was there and confirmed that the bogo worked.
I don't think this was answered:
Do you have to add a new line? My wife and I are already on AT&T, and last time we tried to open new line with old number it turned into a giant clusterbomb.
Would it work if I ported my number to Google Voice earlier in the day? That way AT&T would presumably cancel my existing line, and then I can open a new line for the free phone? Can this be avoided???

You have to add a new line, yes. if you had a line not under contract you could do a work around by porting it if you want to keep the number but I don't think google voice would work... Maybe a cheap prepaid though like tracfone?
To anyone who hasn't found anything on the BOGO deal, it's official now.

Just to make sure I understand, if I go and buy a Tracfone sim-card tonight and port my AT&T number to it, then when I go to buy my S7's on Friday I can just port the number right back and there won't be any issues and it will count as a new line?
Thanks for this thread everyone. Just called AT&T after I got my pre-order from Best Buy & got another Galaxy S7 Edge. Had to open another line but I'm thinking about doing the same thing as porting the number out then back in. Thanks
