[Q] Everytime I check system information on Quadrant, it says cpu is at 800mhz - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi guys, like I said in the title, is it because the phone is not doing heavy tasks? And will the cpu ever run at 1Ghz at all?
just being curious...

Interesting... mine's showing 400mhz (idle). afaik those chips should run @ 600mhz when idle, not 400mhz.
I presume that you can ignore that, as long as your stock firmware (unrooted/unlagfixed) gives you a result of 900(~).

ye it'll run at 1GHz if you're not using any overclocking kernal along with SetCPU. it's on a "on-demand" governer that basically uses more CPU juice as more CPU heavy tasks are carried out.

What is meaning of 1GHz Hack

Found some cook rom that say 1GHz Hack. What is meaning, as HD2 is using 1GHz CPU already. Thank you!
It means that the CPU is not throttling. It's always at 1ghz.
Even though it's a 1ghz (capable) processor, it'll scale depending on the programs that you're running. For instance, when the phone is at idle, it could be at 500mhz and when you run GPS program it's at 1ghz (just an example). Scaling/throttling improves battery life, so when you use your 1ghz ROM hack, expect your battery to drain much faster.
Closing this as there is a well documented thread already on this subject.

DHD CPU Frequency concerns...

Hello people,
The CPU frequency on my DHD becomes stable at around 300MHz. Y is that ? The DHD has a 1GHz processor yet it doesn't consume at least most of it for better performance. Is root the only solution to my problem ?
Is there an average CPU frequency on DHDs ?

How do you come to that conclusion/statement?
When u mean stable?
What do you mean with stable? does it freeze or reboot on anyother freq?
Yes the Desire HD has a 1Ghz cpu, but that doesnt mean it runts on 1Ghz, it means its the max it runs.. its going up and down from 248 to 1024mhz all the time, depending on stress.. if it would be at 1024mhz 24/7 the battery would end faster than you´d like it...
And yes, its possible to control this settings through rooting and setCPU
The cpu is 1ghz but it throttles back to save power all cpus Do this. If you open a monitoring application chances are it sees the throttled speed and reports that first as the upclock is delayed

As tvoben said, the processor frequency is variable depending upon the load. The CPU will only be at 1 GHz only when it needs to, e.g. games, videos etc. Most of the idle time, the CPU should be at a low frequency.
Yes its when it gets stuck at 1 ghz at 100% that u need to start to worry. HTC kindly allowed many users to exprerience the impact this has on battery life with the recent ota update.

DHD usually runs at 681.87 MHz. When needed the clock speeds jumps to 1GHz.

[POLL] What's Your Overclocked Speed?

You might have already figured out that HD2 can be overclocked as high as 1.5 GHz on its powerful Qualcomm SnapDragon Processor. Many people run their devices on default clock speed, but there are few of us who overclock their devices to get max out of it. So i have started this thread to know what your max clock speed is and what governer are you using. Post replies below. Also, don't forget to mention your Phone's Temperature if available.
Mine: 1.2 GHz On SmartAss Governer , Temperature Usually Around 95F

1305MHz using interactive, temp alway @ 28°C even when phone get hot?? tho alway careful to let it cool down when it feels too hot.
I have underclocked ... to 720Mhz (interactive)
Performance is okay and saves battery live
Temperature is about 28 celcius.
1267, 768 when battery less than 30%, 422 when screen is off
On-demand w/screen on, conservative when <30% and screen off
Not great on battery, but good performance an no wake lag
CPU Load jump or whatever it is, set to 30%
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Sticks with no overclock
using a rom which is fast enough and saves battery life, Dont see a point that needed to overclock CPU
Undervolted to 576mhz, for better battery life.
Runs smooth enough for all apps, including navigation and games
No overclock for me, don't need it, phone is fast enough as it is.
Clock speed: 998mhz (default), governor: ondemand, temp: n/a
Good enough for me sweet onough on may battery.
P.s. there seems to be no difference(performance wise) between rafpigna kernel oc'd @1.5ghz and tytung kernel oc'd @1.2ghz, when testing on linpack and/or other smarbench tools

Does the stock firmware CPU Throttle?

I have been kicking around getting SetCPU to do some auto CPU throttling to help with battery life, but I'm uncertain if I actually would see a lot of improvement.
The reason I am unsure, is I installed some CPU info widgets, and they report a CPU frequency that already seems to throttle. Is it actually doing throttling or are the widgets just not accurate? If it is throttling, is there still a case to be made for SetCPU?
Thanks!
If you want something that's just set and forget, SetCPU alone will do very little to extend usage time.
The stock kernel does throttle the CPU.
SetCPU gives you control over how your (rooted) phone throttles it's CPU, it allows you to change the CPU governor, set minimum and maximum CPU speeds, or overclock with a compatible kernel.
CPU Spy will give you a break down of what speeds the CPU is using and how often.
thanks for the info!

[Q] Whats the max safe cpu temp for nexus 7?

I'm using system tuner for cpu temps. Seems to be the most accurate reading.
My current kernel can OC to 1.6 GHz but temps get around 62c. On stock 1.3 GHz its gets to 52c max.
Trying to figure out what is safe before I mess with it any more.

I overclocked it to 1.6 GHz too and I have to say that you don't have to worry about this. With the Trinity Kernel, for example, you can OC it up to 1.7 GHz. These values were tested, so they are stable and safe.

max safe temp fot the nexus 7 is 100C. if you do reach 100C, there is a safety mechanism in place that will shut down your cpu. but before you even reach the 100C safety shutdown, you will reach the throttling temperature. it will lower your cpu safety, regardless of what you have it set to, to cool down your cpu. i think the default(stock) throttle temp is between 70-80C, i dont remember. but all the custom kernels have the throttle temperature set to what the developer wants, some higher, some lower.
62C is well within safety range, and within normal range for 1.6ghz. itl go even higher when the device is being pushed. i habe reached safety shutdown on many many occasions, usually when pushing the device very hard and intentionally at a raised cpu speed. ive also reached it while playing intensive games, for long periods, and overclocking my gpu. and thats another way to raise heat, overclocking the gpu. even slightly overclocked, the gpu can affect the cpu temperature very much.
